April 2013

An Enchanted Forest painting and some deep (for me) thoughts on aging and time (but no math)

hand painted signs, Snow White, Workshops

Easter 13 152
I thought I'd show you some steps to the Enchanted Mural I did for Kim's event.  I posted a few beginning photos here and there while I was working on it, but as it progressed and started to look like something, we wanted to save the "reveal" as a surprise for the Fair Maidens attending the party.

Mural start 010

It measures 8-1/2' x 16'.  Too big for my garage wall! I had to bunch it up under the soffit, and move it down to paint the top after  I was done with the rest of the picture.

The first step was background color, blue sky, brown ground. I didn't bother to prime it this time.  I also forgot to cover my wall with plastic.

Oops.

Which would be fine, if the whole mural had seeped through, would be kind of impressionistic and fun. But no, just blobs of blue and brown.

Misc 015

Next, I painted the horizon and hills off in the distance, all in faded tones. After that, the grass.  And I sketched the trees in chalk for the trunks, then blocked in the dark leaves at the top.

Misc 017

I was going for a look of standing at the edge of a dark forest, looking out into a meadow and off into the distance.   I thought a road leading to a castle far away was appropriate for the Snow White story.

481372_10151474523274477_1584892405_n524892_10151476068339477_1898446915_n

Here are a couple of "during" shots as I tweaked the sunlight.  You can see that my background behind the pink tree on the left changes.  I did a lot of re-dos on that area.  But hey, it's only paint, you can change as much as you'd like. And I was making it up as I went along, so some things didn't work as well as others. There was a lot of painting over.

Mudball 011

This is the final effort for that same spot under the pink tree.  Deeper shadows and some yellow splotches of sunlight.

Misc 021

The whole thing is done in layers. I felt like I really got to know that forest.

Like the fact that there are more pink trees far away to the right. They got covered by trees in the foreground. If I had done a drawing first, maybe that little issue wouldn't have come up, huh?

Easter 13 153

Here is it is, filled in a bit more.  Notice the shadow across the road under the trees?

Easter 13 149

I added little surprises out in the woods too.  (early version)

Mudball 010

(Completed version)

This is where Snow White lived with her stumpy buddies.

Mudball 003

Her friends, the deer are in the woods too.

Mudball 006

As well as a bunny and some butterflies.

Mudball 001

I added a couple mushrooms.  I wanted to do a whole fairy ring of them, complete with dancing fairies, but I actually was able to stop myself in time.

This mural is meant as a photo backdrop.  No one will see the tiny goings on in the background for the photos.  But I was so involved with my own day dreams, I got carried away and spent way too much time on the far away details. They made me happy.
Mudball 008

But they really took too much time away from my real life. I spent so much time wandering around the woods in my make believe life that I got nothing else done.  I've not added any new things to the shops, I've had no income. That is why they call us starving artists.  Sometimes we get so wrapped up in creating that we don't care about selling.

But I am far from starving. I tend to snack as I paint.  Not a good thing for the waistline. I figure this mural cost me $1000 in sales online and added 5 lbs to my belly.

Mudball 005

Oh, but I sure loved being in this fantasy world!

Mudball 009

Years ago, I did murals for a real job, but have gotten away from it.  I used to be super fast, because I did so many.  But with this I really zapped my time.

I was wondering if it has something to do with getting older? (I'll be 55 in a couple weeks)  I seem to do everything slower as time swoops by me so fast.

Here is how I figure it:

When you are a kid time drags. Remember waiting for your birthday?? Those months seemed to take forever to go by.  But compared to the amount of time you'd been on the earth, it was a pretty large percentage of your years.  Lets say you are almost 5, maybe about 58 months old.  So those two months till your 5th birthday are………

Wait a minute, I don't do math or percentages, what am I thinking???? My point is that two months of your life as a child is a huge chunk of time.  Two months of your life as a 50 something adult is nothing.  You've lived through 600 some months.  Time goes by faster due to your frame of reference.

Mudball 014

That is what I am blaming on my slow down.  I take forever to get anything done and I used to be lightening fast. I think it is because time is slipping by so quickly that I don't register how long I've spent on a task. All afternoon at my desk feels like an hour or so.

Plus, as I said before, I got a little carried away on this project while living in the imaginary forest.

Easter 13 151

Case in point, this castle? I spent two hours on it.

Mudball 013
(the blue birds and leaves are just blocked in at this point, no details)

And you can barely see it. I wanted it to look very far away, and it does, but did I need two hours of detail to do that?  Oh well, I love the castle, so I'm glad that I did.

Another thought on aging:

As I get older, I care more about details.  I wonder how many more big projects I'll be doing? They seem to matter more to me, so I put more into them.  Not that I plan on kicking the bucket any time soon, or that I expect to be too creaky at 60 to get anything done.  But I'm just more aware of the remaining years and how precious they are.

Okay, back to the painting?

While I wanted the forest to seem dark, to emphasize the light in the break in the trees, I didn't want it to seem scary. The shadows are a pretty blue, and while there are bushes and grasses, it's not over grown and tangled. It's a friendly forest.  And since it is a photo back drop, I had to watch out for hot spots.  No glaring whites or brights, all are faded or toned down.  Which gives it a dreamy look, I think.

Mudball 022

I'm afraid I can't get a photo of the complete thing while it is in my garage, there is no space to hang it up all stretched out. When I lowered it to paint the top, I had to roll up the bottom few inches.

Done 010
Curtains will cover a foot at the top and 6" at the bottom will have to be rolled under to make it fit.  Curtains will also cover 2 feet on each side. I didn't know this till it was 90% done, so I went in and brought the leaves down lower and darkened them to keep the effect of a dark forest.  If the leaves were mostly covered at the top, it would change the look of the design.

Mudball 004

This is a nest I added and wasn't happy with.

Done 005
This is what it needed!

Done 004

Much better!

If you want directions on painting a nest, I have a free tutorial here.

Done 006

I'd have added more blue birds, but was afraid that they were so bright that they might stand out too much in photos.  And they could look like they were sitting on the head of someone standing in front of them in the photos.

Done 007
And I think one of them will be cut out by the curtains, but maybe the tie backs will save it.

Done 011
Sadly, it is also too big to hang anywhere at my house.   I donated my time (not planning that I'd spend ALL my time on it,) not the mural itself, so I get it back after the party.

I'd thought about selling it, but I have grown attached. I might cut it up in sections and wallpaper the grand fairies' room with it.  I'm not sure yet.

Jewelry-o-rama in front of the TV

family, jewelry

Jewelry 009
My son and I have both been making some jewelry.  He does wire wrap and crystals, more of a new age look.  But I thought one of his amethyst crystal pieces would be perfect for me to wear to Snow White.

He does a silver wire base, adds crystals to it, puts it into a mold and pours epoxy over it all. Or something like that.

Then, he added the strip of violet suede to make a bracelet. I had some gemstone beads, in ruby, garnet, amethyst, and laborite that I made chains out of for the sides.

Jewelry 011

These beads aren't my typical colors, but I loved the stones. And the bracelet Mr. Zen created.  So, I added some of the gems to my pendant from Victorian Trading Co.

563683_10151510331444477_356793450_n

It's been jewelry-o-rama around here lately. A friend of mine and Guncle Randy's, Regina,  gave me a bag of gemstone beads and I can't stop playing with them.  Last week, I was meeting friends for a little birthday celebration at our traditional hang out.  (we do happy hour appetizers and half price wine at  a place called 715 when one of us has a special occasion)

So, I whipped up a few pair of earrings with stuff laying around on my desk to take as party favors.

Besides making jewelry, I've been puttering, getting things set for Snow White and Birdsong mostly. And watching too much tv.  What's on the DVR that I've been getting caught up on? Loads!

  • The Voice- Blake and Adam are adorable
  • The Following- thrilling
  • The Americans- well made
  • Game of Thrones!!! – I'm a huge fan of the books too, why can't he write faster?
  • Shameless- Smart kids trying despite bad surroundings, and don't you think that Lip looks like a young Robert Mitchum? (oh my, that shows my age, and also makes me feel like a pervy old lady to be eying that kiddo)
  • Girls- annoying people, but interesting writing
  • Modern Family- best comedy on TV
  • Once  Upon A Time- well dur, it's a fairy tale
  • Idol and Survivor ( I'm not as enthusiastic, but can't quit them)
  • I haven't gotten to Bates Motel or Hannibal yet, I heard they were good
  • The Middle- Sue Heck is my hero, she never gives up
  • Mad Men- John Hamm? Swoon!  I wish he'd do more comedy too.
  • Sofia the First- Sugarwings and I love her to pieces and she looks like my little girl
  • My Little Pony Friendship is Magic- Dewdrop and I end up watching this while I work at my desk and she paints at her little table so her parents can work in the garden, and I have become a fan against my will.

Images
My list is actually much longer than this, but I'm embarrassed to  let you know just how much TV I watch.  It's pretty bad.

I've also been reading the Walking Dead graphic novels since I am having withdrawals from the show.  Trouble is, they are eight bucks a piece on my Kindle Reader app, and the books only last an hour or so.  It looks to me like I could spend a small fortune in a day or two, so I stopped at #5.  That took some will power!

Fairy Play Area

Dew Drop, Nathan Family Fairy Food Forest

Ara teaparty 015
Dewdrop comes along to help her parents while they work on the Fairy Food Forest.  But she gets bored and tends to wander off, so they built a baby cage Fairy Play Area for her.

Complete with a sturdy fence, and stumps to use for a tea party table, or to climb on, what ever mood she is in.

Forest first of april 022

We plan on adding a chalk board on the outside wall of the chicken coop, but for now, the kids have a giant cardboard box to draw on. And use for a club house. Or nap time retreat, as Dewdrop does.

Ara teaparty 029

We had bought a slide too, then realized that kids would slam into the fence at the end of it. So we took it back and got a swing instead.

Ara teaparty 026

There has already been a couple of tea parties out here. I think that helped her get used to being penned up.  I wanted her to have happy thoughts about the cage Fairy Play Area from the beginning.

Ara teaparty 024

I think it helped, she has been spending a lot of time playing away in there while her parents work on the other side of the fence.  And it doesn't hurt that her Daddy made it such a fun place to be.

Karla paints a table for Karla

Hand painted, Hand Painted Furniture, redos

Done 013

While I had the paints out and my work clothes on to work on the giant mural/banner, I finally painted this little table for Karla.  Last year, she helped with my Pay Pal sorting for tax time, like Beth did for me this year.  It's a good thing to have accountant friends!

Done 014

So, about 6 months ago, she dropped off this little white table and said I could return the favor and paint a rose on it.

Here is what I did:

  • First, using a large, flat brush, I dry brushed toast color across the whole table top, over the white paint that was there.
  • Next, I took a kitchen sponge dipped in white and sponged the center of the table, leaving the toasty color heavier around the rim.
  • With a one inch flat brush, I dry brushed a hint of white from the very edge over the toast toward the center of the table, but only about 2" or so away from the edge.
  • With the sponge, I wiped on a green around the routered edge.
  • Where the toasty color was left as is, I painted a swirly design all around the table top.
  • Last, I plopped a rose in the center.

Done 012

I was happy to do it, but it took me forever to get around to it. I just don't paint furniture on a regular basis like I did in the past and it took some gearing up.  When I started painting roses on the banner, it occurred to me that it would be a good time to get out the much delayed project and slap a rose on it too.

539122_10151508764939477_754895452_n
(Twinkle insisted that I take her photo too)

Hope the pink is the right tone. It's been so long since she showed me the pillow sham she wanted to match, i can't remember what it looked like. ooops

561259_10151505814189477_141559949_n
Here is a table I found for myself, to use in the garden. Only $5 at the West Bottoms in KC. I paid that much for the bag of kettle corn on top of it.

535997_10151511969889477_1536081053_n
And here is a mini redo that I did for  myself.  Years ago, I'd given my Great Aunt Caroline's clock a coat of white paint and then distressed it.  But it was still dark inside.  So, I leaned a page from a vintage bird book in it, and added a rim of lace (held by a couple dots of glue) to the frame under the clock face.

It only took a couple of moments and I think it added a lot.

Blue bird lockets

jewelry, Snow White

Done 016

Between painting projects and gardening goings ons, I've been making some lockets.

Done 015

These have a, yes, you guessed it, Snow White theme.  Hmmmm, wonder what I'll do with those??  (I am in a locket swap but none of these are the item I have made for it, I'll show you that after the gifting)

Done 017

I've done mini collages on the insides, and coated them with Diamond Glaze. It's not dry yet, you can see where it is a bit milky around the edges.  I'm waiting for it to get good and dry to add beads and whatever to the exteriors.

Done 016

These lockets with doors were cute as is. I thought they looked like doors to the Dwarves' cottage.  I found them at Victorian Trading Co.

We have the only outlet store for the catalog here in KC. Typically, I prefer junk shops, but this store is my weakness.  And having everything there 50% or more off the catalog price doesn't hurt.

1a6907

This photo is from the catalog.  They call it a Fairy Door, and that works for me too, of course! But I thought it would be great for Snow White. The other lockets I made collages for are from there too.

1a3658-2
1a6760

The reason I was shopping there was to find a dress that had a fairy tale feel.  I tried on everything in the store, some were too Victorian, a lot were too young looking, most were too small. But I did end up with these two (I didn't get green, I got taupe)

They could probably be worn to a Downton Abby party too, if anyone wants to invite me to one. hint hint???

I'm thinking about wearing them with velvet jackets and boots. Less fussy, more me.

And the best part is that they were much cheaper than the catalog, less than half price, plus for every $100 you spend, you get a $20 gift certificate.   Which bought me a bagful of lockets!

Birdsong 3 Sponsors are sending gifts! Would you like to be a sponsor too?

bird song art event

Jewelry 002
Cute chick, huh?

Colleen Moody generously shared one of her creations with me to use as a door prize for Birdsong 3!  This one is a necklace. Sweet!

Jewelry 001

I've added a Birdsong 3 sponsor list to my side bar on this blog and on Birdsong

The list will remain up till after the next Birdsong, or at least a year.  So, if you'd like a little bit of free advertising for your URL on my side bar, or if you are just disapointed in not being able to attend Birdsong and still would like to be a part of it, let me know if you would want to be a sponsor.

Sponsors, as well as past attendees are welcome to sign up early for the next event before I open it to the public too.

Jewelry 003

My friend, Janette, who will be  a third time attendee, donated the bags this year.  I love it when the ladies like to gift each other. Some bring pressies to pass out during the weekend, others send treats to be added to the bags. All is appreciated.  And extra generous.  I know that attending a weekend like this is not an inexpensive thing to do, with travel, class fees, and swap making, etc.

I do try to keep expenses for everyone by not expecting lavish new outfits, or by charging them higher fees so I can decorate special for the event.  We keep it casual and not extravegant and still have a lovely time.  Plus, I try to stuff them full with meals and treats so they aren't spending  alot of money on dinners out.

We used to do a mini breakfast too, but I cancelled that this year, I think that so many hotels offer food in the morning that what I served was not needed.  We are still doing coffee talk together before classes, but I'm not baking muffins this year. Like I said, I try to budget for what counts most.

Forest first of april 028

And Sweet Suzanne, sent these vintage egg cartons. I might use them as kit boxes.  Sponsor gifts can be a small gift to add to each goodie bag, a raffle item or something useful for the weekend.
Mud puddle 067
Laurie has sent these lovely hand made pretties for us.

Lori Oles (who will be teaching too)  sent a pretty roll of paper to share.  I'm not sure how I'll use it, but I know the ladies will enjoy it in whatever way it is presented. My sister is donating a necklace that she made.   Hope will be giving an entry to her online journalling class as a door prize, along with a journal kit.

Thoughtfulness comes in many forms!

Nathan Family Fairy Food Forest update and a very tempting mud puddle

Nathan Family Fairy Food Forest

Mud puddle 081
Building a Food Forrest has been FUN!

Easter 13 145
There is a ton of work to do on the new garden area. But since my son has a family full of kids, he wanted to build a play area to keep them busy while he worked on it.  Here is the beginnings of the Fairy Park he is building for them.

Vines were gathered from tree tops in the woods behind our house, and he has built the frame of the play house for the kiddos with them.  Walls of it will be woven with smaller vines, and we've bought fencing to keep Dewdrop penned in.

Easter 13 068

The steps are in, he is making everything pretty as well as making an organic garden for us.   This whole area by the chicken coop is going to be the play area.

Easter 13 063

Planting has begun too.  Mr. Zen and his Gypsy Beloved are poking all sorts of seeds into the ground.

Easter 13 061

The peas will grow on this vine and branch structure.  After they are done, it will hold beans.

Easter 13 062

Cool, huh? I can't wait to see it covered in green!

Mud puddle 049
Sprouts are already coming up under it.

Easter 13 064

It will be even better when the peas are being served in the dining room!  I  hope to have these as a side dish for Birdsong.

  Forest first of april 023

6 loads of composte have been unloaded and most spread.  And when we had some sick trees removed, the tree service offered to dump loads of mulch out here for us to use.  So far we've had a couple of mountains of free mulch delivered.

Mud puddle 038

Some KU students came by for KU's Big Event, when thousands of college kids give back around the community to help with projects all over town.

Mud puddle 040

They helped spread all the mulch mountains out.

Mud puddle 047

Drainage and watering trenches are in the works, but for now, there is a big, tempting mud puddle.

Mud puddle 072

The resistance didn't last long.

Mud puddle 071

This will be a small retention pond, with a clay lining and a cute bridge over it.
Mud puddle 077

There might be some fishies to keep the mosquitos out, but for now, there are only a couple of mermaids there.

Addiction is still addiction no matter what your vice is

antiques/junking, free images

Easter 13 003
Beth and I had a day out to the antique mall and gave her booth a new look for spring.  (here is her post about the day)

Easter 13 005

Years ago, we shared this spot, and my hand painted roses are still there on the wall behind the space.  I no longer do this for a living and am glad.  But when I get invited to help Beth, it brings back lots of memories and I have a great day playing with old things and arranging them.

When I had a booth, I just adored working on it. Decorating was so much fun, I almost got ticked off when someone bought something and messed it up. Almost, not really. I was smart enough to know that when you sell something, that means you get to go buy more and redecorate the booth again!!

Easter 13 006

My husband HATED me doing the booth when I had it.  I spent way too much time hunting, hauling, and redoing furniture. And driving it to Kansas City to get set up at the mall.  I guess what I'm saying, is that I was obsessed.  It was an over whelming addiction to me, all I wanted to do was work on fixing up furniture and redo the booth.  I got to the point where I was resentful when the sun started to go down and shadows made it too hard to paint on things outside. Which meant that I was working pretty late on summer evenings.

It was hard on my body, too.  Some of those pieces could get pretty heavy, and I was too independent (or impatient?) to want to wait for help unloading the van and dragging it all out to the driveway to work on in all sorts of weather. I ached.  My joints hurt.  I was exhausted all the time.

All I ever wore were terrible old clothes covered in paint, and there were painty messes everywhere I went.  I had a big spray gun for priming and base coats, and would over haul 5-6 large pieces in a day, then do hand work and finishing after. I was always covered in over spray, plus I used the clothes I was wearing as paint rags to clean my brush.

I was crusty.

My garage still has the outlines of furniture on the wall, from over spray.  And the floor is covered in spilled paint colors.

Easter 13 009

It was a very hard job, and I worked hard at it.

But I thought I loved doing it. That is, til I gave it up.  There was an adjustment period, where I couldn't help being sad because I wasn't shopping for broken or ugly things to make beautiful.

But once I got away from it all, I realized just how tired I had been.  And how it had taken over my life.  White paint and roses were my drugs of choice, and I had been hooked deep.

Giving up the antique business was kind of like giving up Diet Coke.  Horribly hard at first. But as time went by, I adjusted and lost the yearnings.  Now, I can pop a top of pop and have a cold one sometimes and enjoy the taste, but don't need to drink the whole 12 pack.  I feel better because of it.

I can also set up a room full of stuff to sell at arty events here and there and get a taste for antique dealing again, without having to furnish a booth or spend 80 hours a week sanding and brushing and hand painting.  I've learned it's much nicer to shop for or make smaller things that fit in an envelope to sell online.

No more 300 lb cabinets for me.  No more endless hours of grueling work.

Easter 13 154

(Beth gave me these pretties from her stash- she wasn't supposed to, she helped with my taxes and I helped with her booth, it was a trade)

My life is better now that I'm not a Diet Coke junky or hooked on dirty, ugly furniture in need of redoing.

But man, it was fun to be back at the mall, foofing and verving with Beth.  It's nice to know that I can recover from my addiction and stay on the straight and narrow.

Well kind of. I have been known to buy a 12 pack of Vanilla Diet Coke when I'm stressed. Or buy the occasional dirty, broken piece of furniture that is just too good to pass up.  I don't think I'll test my will power by trying meth and seeing if I can kick it.

Jewelry 013

Beth also gave me this photo. It must have reminded her of me. Although, I'm more of a hoodie type than a bandana wearer. And I need a few more chickens to measure up to this lady's glorious flock.

Anyway, click on it to open to a larger window and save it to your computer from there if you'd like to use it in your own work.

A day out with the kids- Disney on Ice!

Uncategorized

Easter 13 027
Last week, I swept up some of the Grand Fairies to go to Disney on Ice. Or as I told them to refer to it, Grammie's Day of Fun.

Easter 13 011

We all dressed in our finery and set off for KC while watching movies in the car on the way.
Poor Clover wasn't feeling her best, but had plenty of smiles during the program.

Easter 13 036

Sugarwings had so much fun, she couldn't stop hugging, kissing, squeezing and loving on anyone near her. And her smile never left her face.

Easter 13 020

While Fin isn't as big of a princess fan as the rest of the crew, he still enjoyed the show. And when it got too syrupy, he took a few bathroom breaks to get up and move around.

Easter 13 016

I think he'll make a fine boyfriend/husband for a lucky girl someday. Not only is he cute as a bug, he is sensitive and can enjoy a day out with the girls.
And is smart enough to know when he needs a little break from girly stuff, but polite enough to get away for a few moments without complaining or causing a fuss.Easter 13 025

We arrived a bit early and spent some time wandering around, enjoying the crowds and looking at the Disney merchandise.  Not that we bought any, geesh.  The prices were not tempting (well to me, at least) to heavy shopping. The snacks too. Heck, I thought movie theater popcorn was high, but at least that comes with a free refill.  At this place, it was $12 for a bucket.

I'd brought some snacks for us, and was glad that I did.

Easter 13 023

We had fun without buying cheap plastic toys without cheap price tags. We took photos of each other, and rode the escalator.  It was one of the tallest ones I've ever seen.  You could tell we live in a town without big buildings, we were very entertained by riding up and down like country hicks while waiting for the show.

Easter 13 030

The show itself was a lot of fun, I'll definately go back for another one some day.

Easter 13 038

Afterwards, we made a stop at TRex for an exciting lunch to make up for Grammie being too thrifty to buy the $12 popcorn at the show.

And after that was a stop for chocolates and jelly beans at Russel Stover, and then home to dye Easter Eggs.

Easter 13 012

I'm not sure who had the best time that day, but I think it might have been me.

At Home with the Guncles

dogs, family, guncles, Travel

Florida karen and randy 101
I swear, I could wear out a camera at Randy and Kevin's house.  Cutest dogs, ever, a great collection of, well, too many things to count, and fun stuff going on all the time.

Florida karen and randy 103

And it was very touching to me, that with all the cool collections and fabulous antiques they have, I saw bits and pieces of my own art work all around the house. This is a nest from my wire workshop

They've added some white birds for Spring to the cabinet of white pottery.

Florida karen and randy 100

I'd love to find a top hat like this silk one they have.  It's hosting some paper clay creations I sent to them. The little elf is supposed to look like Kevin.

Florida karen and randy 147

Hmm, kind of hard to tell from this photo.

There is a string of crystals hanging in the window of their patio room, that sends prisms all around the space every afternoon.   Here is Kevin, sprinkled in "light birdies", as my Sissy always calls them.

Florida karen and randy 113

On Sunday, we spent the day in Randy's craft room with our pal, Regina. Over the years, he and I painted the entire room, floor and ceiling with murals, but there are so many treasures in there, not much shows!

Florida karen and randy 118

Tad and Tillie ( Beloved Bishons of the Past) watch over us as we work there.

Florida karen and randy 119

Regina worked on making a bird cage like the ones we had done at Karen's for the workshop at the Kozy Kottage.  Randy made cards (his specialty) and I cranked out a couple dozen birds to decorate my studio for Birdsong.

Randy also prepped the background for this painting he asked me to do.  A friend of his had a painting of a white peacock wearing pearls and he loved it, and asked me to copy it. I don't like to copy, but told him I'd do another version of it my own way.

So, he found a swan in his wild life books and asked me to paint her.  The back ground is metallic, and the bird is regular paint. I think it really makes the swan stand out in a dramatic way.

The swan in the book had red eyes, but I went for pink.  It was a quick job, and there were some things I'd have tweaked if I had time, but I was finishing it up Monday before I went to the airport, and had to rush. Of course, at that point, I didn't know my flight was cancelled and I'd have hours to sit at the airport.

Randy is so kind about my artwork, he is my #1 collector.  Here is a watercolor of Zack that hangs in the craft room.

There is also a big screen TV in there, and he has a cabinet full of shows. I was able to get caught up on the few episodes of Downton Abby that I had missed and we watched Les Mis while working too.  Funny, when I "watch" TV while working, I rarely look up. At one point, I finally looked at the screen and was wowed, it was really a good picture.  I hadn't even noticed that it was such sharp high def.

I should ask what brand it is, I'm in the market for a new one myself.

Yep, it was a fun visit. Great food, great friends, great fun, great crafts, great TV picture (hey, that's important!) and great dogs.

Whimsy and fun at every corner. Accompanied by fresh shrimp.

And there are always big, brown eyes looking up into your face.
