Happy 4th!

Dew Drop, Sugarwings

Zoo 150

I hope your holiday is a peachy one.

Zoo 110

The grand fairies and I celebrated  a little early by trying to create our own fireworks. Not with explosives, though, with paint.

Zoo 112

We made red, white, and blue glitter paint bombs by filling eggs with paint.

Zoo 116

We sealed up the holes with tissue paper. First, we damped the tissue with a bit of paint, and it stuck right on.

Zoo 127

I tacked a poster board to the garage wall and they let loose with the paint bombs, hoping to create big, spattery, fire works on the paper.

Zoo 136

A lot of power went into the tossing, but the eggs didn't make as much of a spectacular splat as we thought they might.

Zoo 132

But a lot of fun was had in the process.  The eggs kind of landed on the poster with a wet thump, and then just hung there like a blob.  Maybe we should have added water to the paint for a more dramatic effect?  It could have been too thick.

Zoo 139

They soon discovered it was a good consistency for finger painting.

Zoo 142

I wouldn't say the result we got was what we were led to expect from Pinterest, but it was still a happy experiment.

bird song art event

Gifties 010

The guests who came to see me at Birdsong were very thoughtful.  Treats, gifties, hugs, lots of sharing!

Gifties 009

The "Iowa Girls" even brought presents for the hens!

Gifties 008

They filled this wonderful, chicken shaped pot with dried herbs to freshen the coop.  (The charming hand vase next to it is from my pal, Suzanne.)

Gifties 011

We have recently switched to pine chip bedding for the coop, and it is a pretty, fresh look with the chips and the herbs.  The building was just cleaned out yesterday and smells much better than our typical hay bedding.   I think we'll stick with this combo!

Gifties 014

The ladies seem happy with it.

Gifties 016

Our weekend was pretty hectic, so after the students left, a group of us opened all the presents together and it felt kinda like a baby shower with all of us in a circle, oohing and ahhing over each package as it was opened.

Gifties 015

There were some very sweet details in the pile of pretties.

Gifties 004

I'll enjoy the gifts, and will be remembering Birdsong each time I use one.

Gifties 006

And remembering the nice group of people who came to see me here at the Cottage!

Prebirdsong4 062

Thank you to all who attended.

Birdsong 090

And for the generous gifts!

Birdsong 091

As well as to the sponsors who gifted my guests too.

Crayons 053

You notice this cute fairy hook has nothing on it yet?

Crayons 054

This is the area that I hang all of my completed swap books from.  So, I guess this means I need to host another swap so I can fill this hook? It was one of my New Year's resolutions, after all. I want to do a swap book again this year, I skipped one in 2013.

A theme is in mind…. I've just got to create the painting for the cover.  Details to come, I hope you will join in.
