Hopping down the Valentine trail- hand made felted wool bunnies and chicks a bit early for Easter

Odds 007
My mom was a seamstress, but I am NOT.  Yet, every once in a while, I'm attracted to a project that involves needle and thread. Even though stitchery is not my strong suit, I give it a little try here and there. I've discovered that as long as I don't have to use patterns, I do ok.  Or measure. I don't measure well either.

Odds 010
If I can make something up as I go along, sewing isn't bad.  Well, till the threads tangle. That part keeps happening to me a lot. But, I power through and keep stitching.

These guys are pretty simple, not a lot of sewing involved and I just love doing them.  They are cut from felted wool. Beth gave me some scraps that she had from Lisa.

Yes, it's not even Valentine's Day yet, but when I saw that soft fluff, I just knew it had to be bunnies and chicks!

Especially the pink.  It was calling out to me to be bunnied up.  I had no choice, even though there were dozens of other things that I should have been doing, I took an afternoon off to snip and stitch Easter critters.

I used up all of my little scraps, and thought I was over the impulse, but guess what?

Odds 005
This package arrived from Lisa!

Odds 006
She sent a big bundle of soft toned felties for me to play with!   I was just thinking that I needed a little craft that I could do in front of the tv at night, and this might just be the thing that keeps my paws out of the popcorn while I watch my favorite shows.

Doesn't that larger cabled white look like it is asking me to be a sheep?  I can hear it.

Thanks, Lisa. I can't wait to start sewing!

And I can't believe I just said that I want to sew.  My mom would be so shocked if she could hear that.

This is another future sewing project.  Lori Oles sent me this roll of rosy paper, and I plan on using it (and some other wallpapers) to make pouches for my journal kits at Kim's big Snow White affair in April.

  1. So happy for you – love all your goodies that you get to play with! I’d love to try felting.
Quick question…You had crown rings at one point in your boutique. You wouldn’t happen to have any left would you? I didn’t see them in the shop, but thought that I’d ask.
Hope that you are doing the hula!

  2. Me too! Sewing should not require measuring or patterns! I like to eyeball it and if I’m really off, I swear, I cut it up and make it into something else. Since I’m not making clothes (for me at least!) it works fine. I love these pastel bunnies, I may need to look for some pink felt for my girls to play with…
    Nice!

  3. Karla, your little bunnies and birds are so sweet…I LOVE to hand sew little things like that…especially if I can sew with the blanket stitch (my favorite). If you have trouble with the thread tangling, stop after every ten or twelve stitches, and let the needle hang freely, and it will spin a few times, and release the twist that makes the thread tangle. It’s called letting the needle “dance”, and it really works for hand stitching. (Let the threaded needle dangle free, pointy side down, over the edge of your table). Try it, it really does work. 4. After reading today’s post, I bought wool sweaters at my local thrift shop. Now they are felted and ready to make sweet, baby ValenEaster animals and hearts. Thanks for sharing and always inspiring even when you are half way across the ocean. Love your journal pages!

  5. your fuzzy little critters are as cute as can be. I don’t mind sewing. I just use my sewing machine most of the time easy peasy but like you I don’t like to measure things.

  6. Just beautiful! I have a little experience with needle felting and seeing these reminds me I should pick it up again! I also have a boatload of old sweaters I knit in the long ago that could do with a felting! Hmmm. This weekend’s project perhaps?

  7. I am in LOVE with your felted bunnies and chickies! Oh, and those little chickie legs and feet are adorable!! I have never tried felting anything, but I may give it a try someday. How very sweet to have friends to send you goodies to create with!

  8. Those felted bunnys are so sweet. Thank you for the giveaway- I would love to win the fabric flowers book by Amy. Hope you have a great trip!

  9. That white cabled wool would make a darling teddy bear or a snowlady with a pink wool hat and scarf. Don’t forget a crocheted flower on the hat!!
