The Blue Bird of Happiness has moved in with us at the Cottage

Picnic 015

Today felt more like Summer than Springtime, and while I was hit with guilt about not having my bedding plants out yet, I was sure enjoying the perennials and so glad that we have such well established beds that can be completely and totally ignored and still look good (well, that is if you look away from the grass growing in the iris)

It was such a pretty day, we took lunch outside to eat.

Picnic 020

Doesn't everything taste even better outside? Especially when served off of a princess plate.

Picnic 027

The day was too nice to stay sitting at the table, Sugarwings wanted to explore.

Picnic 029

And of course, she had to make sure that Grammy was following her.  This is a wooden bridge that I found in a dump 15 years ago (don't ask how I drug it out and got it home myself).   I always liked the little bridge, but this fairy grand baby just adores crossing it.  She always stops to check underneath of it for trolls.

Picnic 034

If only iris bloomed all summer…. I just love this time of year, I'll miss these when they are done, they bloom and fade too fast.

Sugarwings is learning the names of the flowers, she calls quite a few of them iris or snowball bushes, though.  She thinks that the peonies are snowballs like the viburnums.  I have to agree with her, they do look like big white snowballs.

Picnic 040

But the peonies smell better.

Picnic 051

The best part of summer coming? We can paint outside!  (yes, she is still a paint taster, although it looks like she has moved on from blue to black paint now) Last year, there was a photo of her printed in "Where Women Create" all covered in blue paint.

But now, it is MY turn to be a model!

Crepepaper 062

Yep, I am gracing the pages of a trade magazine that showcases New Holland Tractors, along with my niece, Shelli. Hmm, should I add this to my list of publications that I've been in? Probably not…

As if things weren't happy enough around here, most days, at least- look at this! The blue bird of happiness has come to live with us.  Its a gift from Cindy and I just love it. Thanks, Cindy!!

  1. Karla,
Your Iris are beautiful! I really like Peonies, too, but you can’t grow them in this part of Texas. Rats! Miss the “green” of Kansas we have St. Augustine here but it doesn’t look or feel like bluegrass. Has Sugarwings ever found a troll? Looks like you have a geat yard! Enjoy the great weather.

  2. Sugarwings must love exploring your magical adventure playground Karla. How lucky she is to have such a fun loving fairy grandmother. Your flower garden certainly is beautiful at this time of year.

  3. You have a lovely yard and the flowers are gorgeous! And sugarwings is too adorable with the paint on her face and those dimples!!! Just makes you want to give her a big bear hug!

  4. Sugarwings looks so happy. You need to find some small rustic furniture to place under the bridge. Move it around when she’s not looking.
Your lunch looks delicious. And your flowers are beautiful. The iris’ are over in Middle Ga but now the day lilies are coming in. I go out every morning to see whats new in the beds.
Do you think the paint tasted like licorice?

  5. Such a precious post Karla! I love how Sugarwings checks for trolls under the bridge! That is just too cute! I love the bridge too!! How cool! Your yard is so beautiful.
Congratulations on the magazine! You’re so lucky 🙂

With the ever growing Sugarwings, she is becoming prettier by the hour, you don’t think that is possible, but she does! And what fun; eating and arting outside, it doesn’t get any better than this.Enjoy and have a great weekend!

You have a gorgeous garden with a very special garden faerie! She is beautiful!

  13. Your flowers are so pretty. I can never get caught up with weeding, and the good thing is when your plants are thick you can’t see them very much.Sugarwings always has fun I do beleive whenever she is with you. Your new camera is great and I know you are really enjoying it.

  17. Oh yes – food is more delish outside. And your sweet sugarwings is such a beauty, I love seeing photos of that smile. (and a big congrats on being in the trade magazine – getting published is such fun, no matter what right!?)

You have trolls under your bridge too?! My son believes one lives under our bridge in front of the house. All this started after I read him the story of the billy goats that cross a bridge to get to the meadow and the troll tries to eat them. Many memories! You need to write this stuff down as well as I.
