Twinkle Toto

Uncategorized

YELLOW BRICK ROAD. 030

These two are inseparable.  When Sugarwings is "being Dorothy" as she calls it, she makes Twinkle be Toto with her.  I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but she is holding her Toto in this picture.

YELLOW BRICK ROAD. 024

We painted and glittered the pathway in the flower bed to look like a Yellow Brick Road, and Sugarwings has loved skipping and singing on it.

Apron 030

Usually her little Toto/Twinkle is not far behind.

But now, Twinks is missing.  She's been gone since noon Sunday, and I was sure that when the vet's office opened today, there would be a message from someone who called the number on her tag.

No messages.  The Humane Society opens in an hour, I'll be at the door waiting when they do.

YELLOW BRICK ROAD. 016

I won't be able to face this little one and tell her that her dog is gone.  My own heart is breaking too.  Twinkle is not a dog to run off, she chases bunnies into the woods, but always comes when called and is practically made of velcro, the way she sticks with me all day.

We were out doing yard work, she ran after a bunny and never came back yesterday.  After about 10 minutes, I knew that there was something wrong, because she has never been away that long.

Apron 027

Edit-

TWINKLE IS SAFE!!!!!!!!!!!  Some one picked her up and took her to the pound, and now she is back home and happy to be here. Not as happy as I am to have her here, I still feel like a wreck after the day and night I went through!

Dogs sure become family, don't they? My gosh, what a scare to lose her.  I'm thrilled to have her back.  Thank you all so much for worrying along with me.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME!

What can you get for under $100 in Lawrence, KS on a Saturday morning?

antiques/junking, Dorkies (Yorkshire Terrriers), flowers, Hand Painted Furniture

Flowers 002

Ahh! That's better. I've had a rough day and a pale pink rose sure helps!

Flowers 020

Its not been a bad day, just an exhausting one.  Well, I guess the part about my computer refusing to recognize any Excel programs is kind of bad…  Mostly it was just a long and tiring day.  Sugarwings woke up with the sunrise this morning, so she and I went garage sailing together.  (and yes, I have goodies to add to the giveaway, and will take photos soon.  You can leave a comment on any post to enter the drawing)

Flowers 016

Usually, the baby and I don't try going to garage sales together, she'd rather have a lazy morning telling stories and making pancakes.  But when I saw an ad in the paper for an All Shabby Chic estate sale, I packed that kid up fast as I could and headed out.  This table and chairs wasn't something I actually needed…. but won't I enjoy having it right outside my studio's back door?

I kind of repainted it, but not totally. I wanted it to still look weathered, just not so shabby it was looking trashy.  So I misted some spray paint on lightly and evenly to clean it up, and then sprayed a bit more heavily in other places.

Flowers

And of course, I didn't NEED this either. But for $35, I sure wanted it for my studio. I can get rid of some cluttery small pieces of furniture and consolidate the stuff in them into this.

It almost didn't make it home, on one corner, the top of the hutch went sliding and tilted out over the bed of the pickup.  I drove slow and with my flashers on the rest of the way home, and we made it ok.  Ryan helped me to get it out of the truck, and we almost lost it again then, when it came sliding down a little faster than we thought.

When I bought it, I thought it would be a simple slap of paint and I'd be done. Then, I saw to my absolute horror, that the person who painted it before DID NOT PRIME or sand it!!!!!!! Their paint could be peeled off in long strips.  Which I did, for about an hour.

Then I finished it with the steps on my side bar, primer spray and glaze. The glaze is cream. I might add vintage wallpaper to the inset panels.

Flowers 028

These were at the same house.  I think they are meant for hanging on a chandelier.  Not a bad sale, huh? And when we got there it was all picked over, I'd love to have seen what was sold before we arrived.

Flowers 030

It would have to be a heavy chandy to hold these fruits, they have some heft to them.

YELLOW BRICK ROAD. 038

Sugarwings spent the day with her Hippy Chick Mommy and is back for tonight, so my little "shadow" and I will have some play time tonight.  I hope she is in the mood for something less strenuous than usual. Last night, I was the flying monkey and she was Dorothy and I had to scoop her up and run to lock her in the Wicked Witch's castle.  (over and over and over) After hauling and painting furniture all day, I don't think my flying monkey wings will flap tonight.

Cupcakes 038

Wouldn't your heart skip a beat if you were invited for a craft day, and when you got there, this is what was waiting for you?

Cupcakes 039

Mine sure did! When I saw this entry, I knew this was going to be a special place.

Cupcakes 029

I was tempted to say, "The heck with crafting, where's my margarita?"  and just plop down on the porch without even going into the studio.

Cupcakes 028

But as good as the patio was— the inside was even better!

Cupcakes 033

Laurie rents out her studio for the day, as well as teaches classes.  It was a fun place to meet up, and gave our group a break from all having to drive to Lawrence to come to my place. All of them live in KC and Laurie's studio was more convenient for them.

Cupcakes 036

Her home is chocked full of vintagey fun, and I had a hard time concentrating on what I wanted to work on, because I really wanted to explore and look at all the art and fun finds she had on display around the room.

Cupcakes 023

Like this piece that I was really attracted to, even more so, when I saw that it said "Nathan & Co." on the top of the card.

Cupcakes

Actually, it wasn't just the surroundings that kept me from getting to work. I'd brought photos from my trip to Jenn's event last May to add to the Flower Fairy Scrapbook that a group of us from there swapped pages on.

The book was gorgeous! So pretty that I was hesitant about using it. But- we all made our pages with the intent of adding photos, so I starting gluing.  Plus, all the people at craft day assured me that they had been in swaps like this and swappers understand that the pages get altered a bit when you start adding your own stuff.

So, I got out the markers and pens and added journaling bits and swirls and doodads (according to Beth's last post, Journaling is the New Black).  I snipped off bits of the ribbons that Kim tied to the beautiful cover she had made for it and used some of those inside on the pages to trim pictures.  I also created pockets on some pages to add the pictures in,  while saving the artist's original work and adding it to the top of the pocket, or on a tag to tie into the book later.  I also took the liberty of re-distributing some butterflies and adding sparkle marker and details to them when I glued them back to the page around the photos.

Hopefully, I kept the intent of the artists intact and haven't offended anyone.  I was so impressed with the care and skill that they all put into the book!

Cupcakes 109

Was I wrong to add my own touches and drawings, and scoot some other artist's work aside and move it to make room for photos?  I'm feeling a bit guilty…. What do you think?

I sincerely hope that I haven't offended the other artists and that they know how much I will treasure their work in this lovely book.

Icecream 003

Mementos of a trip are important, and I will enjoy that book for a long time!  I made up a little something for Sissy as a souvenir and thank you for her help on our trip to Florida to  Aunt Caroline's funeral.  She loves crows and witchy things, so when I saw this pink hat on a doll while we were shopping together, I knew exactly what I was going to do with it when I got home!

Icecream 001

The hat got a foofing with some old flowers and tulle trim, then I glittered up the bird, gave her a necklace and plopped on the hat.

Flowers and dolls 019

And none of these girls needed the hat, once I was done with their makeovers.  I hope to get a few of these little Miss Vintagey gals listed in the shop today, along with more millinery, if the cloudy skies ever clear up so I can take  a good photo!

I'm cleaning up the Boutique, deleting all the sold goods ( by the way, THANKS!) so you could shop more easily there and even created a new category-  Sale Priced Goods

And don't forget, what ever is left in the Etsy shop is half off the price it is listed at, details in the previous post.

Cupcakes 079

edit- there are sequinned girls, millinery packs, and new (old) jewelry added to the Boutique now.

No matter how much you spend on cupcake decor, if you can’t get the icing right, the cupcake still looks homemade

antiques/junking, Etsy Goodies, Food and Drink, give away

Cupcakes 001

Today is craft day, but with a twist, I am not cleaning up my studio and inviting friends over, we are using a rental studio in KC. ( I'll have details when I get back, I lost the blog address and am rushing right now).

But first, I wanted to take the time to thank you for your purchases and to remind you that the sale is still on at the Etsy shop .  Details are in the previous post, but I also want to remind you that you need to purchase the items from Etsy, go to the check out, but do NOT pay with check out. Email me and I will send you an invoice for half off whatever is left.

I'm fine with you just emailing me the info and I go to the shop and delete the items, but I doubt if Etsy would like it, and I might get booted from there, because they don't get their percentage that way.  I've done this for a few people, because it was quicker and easier than explaining and no problem to do, but I really don't want to make the big ole Etsy goliath mad at me.

Cupcakes 012

I've made up cup cakes to take today, because crafting in packs is hungry work. We all get nibbly while we are cutting and gluing.

And you know, I really, really, sincerely tried to make pretty cupcakes.  These are okay, but not what I wanted.  I saw some on Andrea's blog once that made me sigh they were so lovely.  So, when I spent a day with her, I asked her secret and she took me to her cupcake decor source, where I bought a big bagful of icing roses.

But, its not the same.  Oh, yes, they are the same roses.  They just don't look as good without her magic cupcake touch. She has that touch with everything. Heck, she could probably have a cupcake hanging out of her nose, and everyone would think it was the most beautiful cupcake they ever saw.  She's that good with making things pretty.

I even tried the edible Glitter that I was introduced to at Debbie's party.  The glitter and the roses look good, but with my sloppy icing job and skimpy crooked cupcakes, it just isn't the same.

Cupcakes 017

Well, they might not look like they came from a classy bakery, but they are tasty.  Pillsbury strawberry cake mix and a can of cream cheese icing, yum!

See the stack of books?  I can't believe it, but I found more of these at a sale yesterday!  I listed a couple, the last ones went fast.  They are in the Boutique.  There are some sale prices here and there in the Boutique, but the Etsy sale is Etsy only.

Cupcakes 019

These teensy framed prints were at the sale too, so I bought a bagful. This one is being added to theJULY GARAGE SALE GIVEAWAY PRIZE PACK, a couple others went into the Boutique, and I kept a few for myself to deconstruct and use in projects.

Cupcakes 015

But what is the most special thing in the photo?? Ahh, aren't these just the best?? Aunt Caroline had her pink pearls sent to me.   Sorry for the bad picture, these deserve better than that.  But I need to throw some supplies and crap in a box and get my butt to craft day, gotta run! (that butt that is a bit bigger after making sure the cupcakes were tasty even though they only looked average)

An Ice Cream Social and a Christmas in July sale

Etsy Goodies, Food and Drink, the Boutique at Karla's Cottage, vintage paper/collage art, We're having a party

6a00e008ccd3ca8834011571807aa9970b-800wi

Sweet Jenn at Sweet Eye Candy Creations is having a party today, and I've been to one of hers in person, so I know just what a wonderful hostess she is!

Icecream 012

In honor of the occasion, I made a couple little dessert treats myself, but out of vintage wallpaper.

I also took Miss Sugarwings out for ice cream, but after seeing the perfectly groomed and darling children Jenn has shown eating ice cream at her house, I didn't photograph my wild child fairy grand baby smeared with bright blue "Cookie Monster" ice cream.  We found a yellow brick road (an actual yellow brick sidewalk through some landscaping)  in front of an ice cream store at a shopping mall and she danced and sang Wizard of Oz songs up and down that side walk until it was almost as blue as she was from the dripping ice cream.

When she decided to lay down in the day lillies planted along the yellow brick road, and tell me that she needed to go to sleep in the poppies, I wiped as much of the blue goo off of her as I could and we headed home.

Icecream 017

My contribution to the party is photos of vintage wallpaper ice cream cones, that I whipped up this morning when I realized I had nothing to show for the party and I certainly didn't want to miss Jenn's shindig!

This mini notebook is covered in Flocked wallpaper, front and back, ledger paper on the inside covers and Neapolitan ribbons tying it up.

I've made an ice cream cone on the cover with a wallpaper waffle cone and two scoops of wallpaper ice cream in strawberry chocolate chip (glitter chips) and chocolate  with pink swvarsky crystal sprinkles.  The scoops are both coated in sugared glitter and I've added a strawberry colored velvet posy to a chocolate covered velvet leaf in the corner.

The edges of the pages are coated in chocolate covered ink.

Its available in the Boutique  if you are interested.

Icecream 010-1
I've also made this little sweet treat, and since a party should have favors to give out, this tag is going to be a gift to go along with the next purchase in my Boutique.

edit- OMG- I am so sorry about the background of the ice cream cone photo!!!!! I had no idea what the print said, it was just  a page from an old magazine that I thought had pretty type. So, that photo is replaced now with a cropped out version.  I'm SO sorry for not noticing that was there, and hope that it gets replaced on Google Reader, sometimes they are slow with changes. Icecream 004
This is an odd Christmas card, isn't it?  Robins are usually thought of as a first sign of spring, not a winter bird.  But, it seemed fitting to use this to illustrate a CHRISTMAS IN JULY  sale at my Etsy shop.

Icecream 008

So here are the details of the Christmas in July Sale

1- Anything and Everything in the Etsy shop is HALF OFF.  Including sale items!

2- All you do is make your selection, but DO NOT pay for it.  The discount has to come from me, it won't show up in the Etsy shopping cart.

3- This sale is for readers of my blog only.

4- You need to email me at: karlanathan@sbcglobal.net to let me know what you purchased.

5- I will send you an invoice with the sale price and shipping.

Remember, if you don't email me for the corrected invoice, you won't get the half off discount!

Icecream 018

The sale might sound complicated, but its not. Just make your purchase, email me and wait for the invoice before paying.  I offered this sale price last Christmas to clear out inventory and thought it might be a good time to clean house and offer some discounts again.

So, go fix yourself a refreshing and rich dish of your favorite ice cream and visit Jenn's list of parties, and of course, check out my Etsy shop to help me get some clearance items whooshed out of there because I am sick of all that crap and want it gone  enjoy the sale!!

A fine feathered mess and some mosaic madness

antiques/junking, family, Food and Drink, give away, parties, Sugarwings, the Boutique at Karla's Cottage

Garagesalejuly-1

Sugarwing's Princess bed is coming along… but there have been a few hold ups. Its painted and pretty, that part was easy.  But- a regular crib mattress wouldn't quite fit, so I am custom making one.  Now, I might have mentioned that I hate to sew- but I seem to get stuck doing it a lot.  Well, as long as it is a straight stitch and there are no zippers or buttons involved, I can do it.  But I complain a lot!

Add in two bags of feathers and 3 bags of poly-fill fluff, and I have to tell you, it does become any more fun.  I am sewing a giant, fluffy pillow for her out of waterproof, flannel backed fabric and trying to get more feathers in it than on the floor.  (I bought two down filled pillows on clearance for $7.99 at Tuesday Morning and am using that for part of the stuffing. The pillow cases that came on them are going to be cut up into ribbons, they are silk!)

After that, I'll need to custom make the sheets!  I think I'll go with giant size pillow cases.

Zoo 112

Oh, but she is worth it!

Zoo

Before our trip to the zoo, we threw a fairy tea party for Sugarwing's little cousin, Pixie Pie, who just turned two this week.

Zoo1

Then, all the grandparents took the cousins to the zoo.  Because the heat was so bad and there had been storms earlier in the day, the place was deserted, like a private playground for these little fairy babies.

Bedpainting

I don't know why this was set up at the zoo, but we came around a corner and there sat a jump house.  Like I said, the park was our own private play ground, so we wriggled in under the flaps and jumped away.  Mostly we just fell down and laughed till our sides hurt.

There is nothing more fun than being a grandma.

Garagesalejuly 016

Well, garage sailing is pretty fun too.

I had sugarwings till almost noon today, so could only get to a couple sales. But I found some goods, and at one estate sale,  I had a long conversation with the family after seeing a billion old patterns. Now, I am not a pattern person myself, but I love old trims.  I figured if there were patterns, there were sewing supplies, and they said yes there was.  They just didn't think anyone would want them!  They said they would give me a call and get a box to me.

For the July Garage Sale Giveaway Prize Pack, I found  a little bit, not much.  A doily, a bag of buttons, and a pretty button card.  I also bought a bunch of ribbon roses, not new, but still nice to use. I tied up a bouquet of them to add to the giveaway.  All comments, all month are entered, and I will add more to the package each week.

Garagesalejuly 001

See, these ribbon roses aren't the same as the vintage millinery that I love so much, but they aren't bad at all. I'm just a bit spoiled by finding old ones so often.

Garagesalejuly 011

There was a big bag of buttons at a small sale that didn't even look like it was worth stopping at.  But since I hadn't been to many at all and it was late in the day, I wasn't being picky, and I stopped anyway. I was glad I did, not because I particularly need more buttons, but because they are always nice to find anyway.

I listed this bunch in the Boutique.  There are some sweet ones in the group.

Garagesalejuly 010

These miniature farm animals too. Aren't they cute?  I kept part of the set, some little wooden houses. I want to paint them up and glitter them to use in Christmas decor.  I think they are pretty old from the looks of the other things at that sale, but can't say for sure. The person selling them said they were her Mom's and she played with them as a kid.

OK, gotta go. stupid Typepad keeps locking up my screen! Plus, I can't ignore that giant pillowcase waiting to be made so that Sugarwings will have a new Princess bed waiting for her.  (I found floral king sized sheets for 15 cents each today too, and am using those to make the sheets for the new bed).

A couple more mini redos in progress

Hand Painted Furniture, Sugarwings

Bedpainting 003

Sugarwings and I are hard at work on making some improvements to the Fairy Berry Trail.  We decided that the fairies needed a home to build nests in.

Bedpainting 008

Since I had some painting to do, I turned Sugarwings loose with paint and a brush to work on her project too.  I am making a nest for my own little fairy.  This is an antique bed that I found at an auction and paid WAY too much for (70 bucks) but when it is done, it will will be the perfect place for my fairy grand baby to wrap her little wings around herself like a blanket and curl up at night.

Garden gloves and bed 002

Sugarwings has been climbing out of her baby bed, and I am worried about her falling, so this bed will be lower to the ground, plus I am hoping it will be something she wants to stay in.  She calls it her princess bed and is pretty excited about it.

I'll have more pictures when her room is done.  And when the fairy houses are complete. They are going to need a lot more sparkle and glitz on them if she wants to attract some fairies to them.  But for now, we are off to the Topeka Zoo for the afternoon.  And tomorrow, I'll be hitting garage sales. I need to find item #2 to add to my July Garage Sale Giveaway Prize Pack.

A mini Makeover

A mini makeover

Madison 001-1

Thanks for all your kind comments about the Fairy Berry Trail!  I have to admit, it was not my idea, my husband mowed and created it last spring.  He and Sugarwings have been enjoying the walks down the trail for a few months now. I just gaudy-ed it up with a bunch of junk from Hobby Lobby this week.

We are both smitten with our little Sugarwings and can't get enough of seeing the world through her eyes.  Life is magical when you have a fairy grand baby around, whether the fairy trails are filled with real surprises around every corner, or just imaginary ones.

Vickisale 043

Yesterday, I was invited to an early sneek peek of an over the top, wonderful garage sale.  While there,  I decided to get started on my JULY GARAGE SALE GIVEAWAY , and bought a pretty postcard to kick off the package.  So, here you go, item # 1 in the giveaway.  More to come…

 Vickisale

At the sale, I found a huge stash of not just post cards, but these pretty, Victorian books.  And believe it or not, I actually got them all photographed and listed into the Boutique (lately, I have not been so productive with my shops…)

Vickisale 056

While I was feeling so proud of myself for getting some work done, I added these ephemera packs too.  They are filled with a variety of great old papers, no copies, all originals.

Vickisale 063

Not only did I get a bunch of new goodies listed, I went through the site and did some housekeeping.  Things that had already sold, should now be deleted, so it is easier to shop.

Plus ( I'm patting myself on the back), I even added another ephemera pack to Etsy!  This one is all floral, also all OLD.  It includes one of the gorgeous vintage postcards I got at the sale yesterday.

Vickisale 053

What else did I get at the sale? Well, something I did NOT need, but couldn't resist.

Vickisale 048

See why?  Man, these chairs were meant to live here with me.  The person I bought them from has a house jam packed with this kind of thing, and I'd love to have any of it! I felt lucky to get these, they are antique, and newly recovered.  Her things are always top notch.

Vickisale 045

The new chairs inspired a mini makeover.  Just a bit of brightening and sprucing up for summertime. I bought these old curtains years ago at another garage sale, but never had the right place for them. They are different sizes and have pleats at the top.

Well, the pleats are at what used to be the top. I turned them upside down and hung them from the hem. The fact that they are different lengths and  pleated is hidden by the sofa.  And where the hem was too tight for the rod, I ripped the stitching out a bit..

Then, I looked through the closet stash of pillows to find a few bright ones to add a little more color, and picked some fresh flowers from the garden.

Vickisale 050

I added a little fruit themed plate (how summery is that?) for color on the side table and that was it.

Having a neutral colored sofa and walls (and now chairs too!) means that I can redo for each season by just adding a few colorful things here and there.  And by shopping at estate and garage sales and stocking up on things like curtains and plates for cheap, means I can afford to change things out when I want to.

Lets see, what did I spend?

Chairs $100 (BIG SPLURGE)

Plate – free fromBeth, she brings me stuff she gets in auction lots!

Curtains- $8 about 6 years ago

Pillows- Clearance at Hobby Lobby and Home Goods a few years back- $26

Flower vases- 25 cents at a garage sale

I think I'll need to buy a can of Scotch-guard to protect the new chairs before Sugarwings gets a hold of them, though.

The Fairy Berry Trail

Uncategorized

Along the Fairy Berry Trail

Fairyberrytrail 074

My day started with a taste of Florida for breakfast.  While down there last week, Sissy treated me to a jar of Key Lime jelly.  I've been eating it on whole grain toast with light cream cheese, sprinkled with ground pecans (also from Florida) and it makes me think I am indulging with key lime pie to start my day!

Fairyberrytrail 007

After the tasty breakfast, we went for a walk on the Fairy Berry Trail.  Our cottage used to be out in the country, but now our 10 acres are surrounded by a housing development and we are a little island of county  land in the center of city property.  Hopefully, we won't be annexed into the city….  But we still have our own little slice of country here, and we've used part of it to make a fairy land trail through the woods for Sugarwings.

Fairyberrytrail 009

A while ago, my husband mowed a path through the field, and down the hill into the trees.  Sugarwings loves going back there,  either walking, or riding the "tractor" ( our riding lawn mower).  She calls it the Fairy Berry Trail because it is lined with mulberry trees, so she can snack on berries while she hunts for fairies.

Fairyberrytrail 016

But today the trail was different, and she was surprised to find some new sights along the way.

Fairyberrytrail 025

Hobby Lobby had their garden aisle of goods on clearance, and I helped them clean it all out.  I loaded up on all sorts of cheesy, bright plastic flowers and butterflies on stakes to stick in the ground, as well as wind chimes, statuettes, and signs.

Fairyberrytrail 012

Some are tucked away, so the fairy grand baby has to carefully look for them, the others are  right in plain sight.

Fairyberrytrail 020

At first, she was pretty quiet, and didn't know what to think.  But after finding a few of the surprises, she really enjoyed the hunt.

Fairyberrytrail 043

We set out about 15 little surprises, and its funny how few and far between they seem once I got them out in the woods.  It seemed like a lot, when it was $40 worth of stuff filling my shopping cart!

Fairyberrytrail 045

Over time, I can hunt for things at garage sales and add to the collection.

Fairyberrytrail 044

It will be fun for Sugarwings to find new things as I buy them and hide them in the woods.

Fairyberrytrail 048

The area is down in a valley and kind of secluded, so I don't know if the wind chimes will make much music.  We are starting a tradition of shaking the branches as we pass underneath the trees that have the chimes in the branches.

Fairyberrytrail 049

At the end of the trail, where the path loops around a tree to turn back, she found her very favorite creature, a frog prince.

I had a feeling she'd like this one.  Every time she plays with her magic wands, the rest of the family gets turned into toads.

Fairyberrytrail 056

But  being a toad isn't so bad, if it means you get lots of Sugarwing kisses!

Fairyberrytrail 070

I think we'll be spending even more time along the trail now than before.  I might move the pieces around every week so she'll keep on having fun finding them all.

And I will also find something for you, that I can have as a giveaway this month.  My plan is to share my garage sailing goodness, and add something to the prize pack each week, like I am adding to the fairy trail. All comments, all month are entered, and I'll have some photos of the goodies, as soon as I buy them!

Won’t you be my neighbor?

Etsy Goodies, the Boutique at Karla's Cottage, videos, vintage paper/collage art

Neighborhood 018

Before my trip, I started building this little housing development.  Then, when I got home, Beth came over for a craft day, and brought a similar project to work on!

Neighborhood 031

Funny, how we both had the same idea at the same time without knowing what each other was doing!  Yet, we both took a different route with our cottages.   We took the same idea and each "made it our own", as they'd say on American Idol.

Neighborhood 021

My houses started as cheapo, chip board books from the Michael's dollar bins.  But all the building materials that went into the renovations of these cottages were top notch!  I like to think of them as those run down neighborhoods where an artist moves in, fixes up a place and then makes the block trendy. So that everyone wants to live there after that.

Neighborhood 014

Adding all the little details was the best part of redoing these plain houses into artist's cottages.  Lots of vintagey goodness went into the renovations.  The chip board was covered in old wallpaper, back and front, then I hand drew some welcome banners, butterflies and vines.

The curtains are old lace, the door knobs are vintage buttons, and the window boxes are blooming with teensy flowers I transplanted from my hats.

Neighborhood

You might have noticed, I have become infatuated with mosaics….. I'm really enjoying the Picassa editing tools.

If you like Mosaics too, check out http://dearlittleredhouse.blogspot.com/ for Mosaic Monday!

Neighborhood 035

While making up houses (some are books, some are just wall hangings)  I made another butterfly book too.  Its not pictured with the houses because it is the same size, and would look like Mothra devouring the houses in the Godzilla movies if it was next to my dainty cottages.

Neighborhood 036

I'll be adding this butterfly to the website this morning, the homes are already there.  And please wander through Beth's open houses too, she has some beauties inherEtsy shop right now.

Neighborhood 038

All of the books, hers and mine, are ready for your own embellishments over the base of old papers we have used.

Neighborhood 003

When Beth comes over, she always has some tid bit of cool stuff to bring to me.  If you read her blog, you know that her life is one great find after another.  Recently she found this box and when she saw that it said "Nathan" (my last name) on it, she brought it as a gift. Along with some new (old) wallpaper too.  She and I have a Wallpaper Pact. Whenever one of us finds more paper, the other gets a hunk of it.

Its a good way to keep jealousy from coming between friends while shopping! Plus, isn't it more fun to share the joy when you find something great?

While she was here last week, we were joined by Mary, Queen of the Logomachy cards.  She just got a new flip camera and wanted to play with it.  We made up a couple "how to" videos and I thought I'd show you one.

Now remember, its off the cuff, not planned.  Not professional at all, on my part!  And while Mary does a good job with editing, and has learned a lot about the camera, there are still moments when the angles are a bit odd and we decided that the title of the movie should be "Karla's Cleavage" instead of "Karla's Cottage".

Also, I might not be very good at loading the video onto the blog. If you can't see it here, you can click on this:
