The Tiniest Dancers

Dancers

When I found these teeny little ballerinas, I was just charmed by them.  At barely an inch, they are just as dainty and sweet as can be.   I didn't get many of them, just a few to add to the shop along with some of their big sisses, and a few for me to use too.

Fairy

It was a girly day for the Boutique. I added fairies, ballerinas, Charlottes and Alices.

Pink fairies

Don't you just love the badly painted faces of the OLD cake topper ballerinas? So ugly they are cute.

Girls
This shipment of Charlottes is of all eensy weensy little girls. Each is every bit as dainty as that tiny ballerina, at about 1 inch long.

I scrubbed at a couple to see if the dirt comes off, and most of it will. But I am leaving it on, in case the new owner likes "patina" as much as I do.

Charlotte

They are just so tiny and sweet.

Dancing
Kind of like these two, the sweetest little dancers ever.

Reading
We had a little tea party so Pixie Pie and Sugarwings could open the gifts that were sent to them by Debra Ganas.  They loved them!! Thanks, Debra!!

Hugging dog
Sugarwings loves her cuddly dog. But I made a mistake in my Swap Book notes and only wrote down that there was a gift for Sugarwings next to the giver's name, not what it was, because it wasn't open at the time. So, I won't know what is from who!

How rude of me.  I'm sorry.

She has a couple more to open, and tomorrow is my Sugarwings Day, so she and I will spend some time enjoying the thoughtfulness of the givers.

Tagbook
You know that feeling after a holiday, or big event when all of a sudden, its over and you wonder what you are going to do with your time?  That is kind of how I am feeling right now, I miss the Alice Tag Book Swap!

So, today I made up a book of my own tags, plus a few kits if anyone would like to make a book

March giveaway does really exist and some Tag Book Tendinitis

Happy St Pats!  There is a great parade downtown Lawrence, but I had to skip it today.  Sugarwings went with the rest of the family and I stayed home to rest.

Remember the Frozen Charlotte flu that knocked me out of commission a couple of weeks ago? It turned into pleurisy.  But on top of that, I seem to have some tendinitis in my left arm, from making over 70 tag books and typing out the labels.  Funny, when you are over 50 and call the Dr. to say that your chest and left arm hurts, everyone starts to panic.

But, I knew it wasn't a heart attack, I could just tell.  But my Dr. wouldn't see me to say what it was, I had to go to the ER.  And since my stubborn, doctor's office hating, husband has high cholesterol issues and a family history of heart problems,  I knew that if I refused to go in to get checked, he would use this as an excuse to not get checked himself if a future chest pain ever came up for him.

Since I KNEW it wasn't my heart, I finished all the tag books (from the tags that were already here, I am expecting a few more yet) and got them to the PO before I went to the ER.  The pain had been around for more than 24 hours, I figured that if it was an emergency, I'd already have been dead.

So, the tags are in the mail, I am feeling better, but am supposed to rest up.  I might take a couple of days off from typing, this hurts!

IMG_9082
Sometimes it sucks to get old.  Things hurt more.  And linger longer.

Just ask poor old Bookie and Sparkle, they know how I feel. Those two hardly ever leave their pillow by the space heater.  But I did coax them out to pose in their St Pats finery.

IMG_9530
I'm going to take today and tomorrow off to get cozy and rest up while I recover from Frozen Charlotte Flu induced pleurisy and Tag Book Tendinitis.  I've got some reading to do for book club and need to go see Alice in Wonderland.

IMG_9536
Before I go, I wanted to show you the giveaway for March.  Yep, its once again past mid-month by the time I remembered to announce my month long contest….

IMG_9535

This is a china shard pendant that I've made from a vintage plate, a rose quartz cab, two rose quartz beads, and vintage crystals.  This giveaway is retroactive, all comments all month, all posts go into the hat.

Now, back to my ibuprofen. I hope you all find a lucky four leaf clover and a pot of gold today!

Oh Baby, Baby! Twice the fun as just one.

Surprise!  Today is a surprise baby shower for our sweet as can be, friend, Andrea.  She is expecting a little sister for her two boys.

IMG_9131
So, a group of us are helping her  celebrate by sending her some hand made girly gifts to Hope, who lives near Andrea and is gathering all the presents and surprising her with  a shower.

My gift is a little cartoon painting of her two sons as elves, holding a newborn fairy girl.

 IMG_9135

IMG_9137

Its done in watercolor with ink.  And I added some pearl paint to the baby sister's wings, with a hint of glitter.

IMG_9145

Her gift was sent wrapped in vintage paper, and I used very little tape, so she could reuse it for a project.  Don't you hate getting some cool old paper and having it ruined by the tape?

Here is a section of the paper that you can click on to enlarge if you'd like to print it to use.

Please visit the other shower "guests" and see what pretties they have made! Here's a list of who is attending the shower today.

And of course, what is a baby shower without some yummy treats? I made a carrot cake up for yet another baby shower.  Tuesday, we celebrated Shawn's upcoming addition with a Craft Day Baby Shower Tea Party at my cottage.

IMG_9140
As a surprise, I made a fairy picture of Shawn's daughter, Bethany holding a new baby brother.

IMG_9249
We really wanted an Alice theme for our tea party, but since I had the photo shoot the day before, my time was short.  I was able to make a mini effort to Alice up the table.  The party favors were little Charlotte babies that came along with a pig picture cut out of a vintage book. Since Alice was holding a bundled baby that turned into a pig.

IMG_9255
And I cut out little "drink me" notes to put by all the tea cups.

IMG_9266
Beth was the Mad Hatter (or Russel f
rom Survivor?) and I was the March Hare.

IMG_9264
Shawn and Bethany came with Rabbit Ears too.

IMG_9261

Shawn has more photos of the day here.
Shawn's baby is due after Twinkle's babies are coming, so I told everyone we had to squeeze in one more craft day and make it a baby shower for Twinks. (if you live nearby and want to come, let me know!)

IMG_9273
For Shawn's gift, we bought her an album and each created a page for it.  Her husband is an aquarium enthusiast, so I thought that a fish theme would be good for my page.   I made a pocket out of watercolor paper that I painted like to look like water, with little purple fishies in it.  I cut out fish shaped tags for her to glue photos to, and slid them into the pocket.

IMG_9274
Next, I painted some colorful fish and grasses on watercolor paper and cut them out to glue onto the pocket for a 3-D effect.

IMG_9271

For the back side of my page, I used sparkle scrapbook paper over reversible scrap book paper that I folded into a pocket page. I do like pockets in photo albums.  The little card with the old fashioned baby picture opens up, so that Shawn can add a small picture there too.

IMG_9275

But that isn't all the babies, or all the gifts! Our other friend, Holly, is expecting her 3rd son.  I wanted to send a little something to her and since I am on a Charlotte roll, I thought I'd use one of them. Although her child is a boy, so we won't say Charlotte, we'll say Charles.

IMG_9281
The carriage is made from a box that I have cut down and covered in flocked wallpaper, then lined with white velvet, and trimmed with ruffled ribbon.  The wheels are mother-of-pearl buttons.

Rings019

And geez, as if this post wasn't already long enough, I need to let you know that I've restocked the crown rings in my Boutique.

Also, I will be emailing everyone who asked me to save a Peat Pot Pretty with Fairy for them, and will have a couple left to add to the shop too. Thanks so much!

And congratulations, Andrea, Shawn, Holly, and Twinkle on this spring's new crop of little ones!

Wishing the Happiest of Valentine’s Days to You!!

Cupcake

Happy Valentine's Day! Today is not only my 3rd blog anniversary, it is also my 700th post!  What are the odds that would happen??? So of course, I am celebrating with a giveaway.  Today is the last day to enter to win a copy of my Grumpy Fairy book

This little painting is for Sherry.  She has EIGHT grand daughters and has asked me to paint them each as a fairy, like I did for Sugarwings in the Grumpy Fairy book.  I've had a lot of request for doing this, but have always turned them down.  Now, I think I am ready to take on some commissions….

Baby
To see if I really wanted to go into the fairy painting biz, I did a few little sprite cartoons of some of my friend's children.

Bunny
Of course, these will not be exact portraits, cartoon is the key word here.  I have plans for some vintage wallpaper covered mats. When I have it all done and ready to mail, I'll show you the photos I worked from and the finished projects. I'll be interested to see what the moms say.  I'll be relying on their feed back to see if I will offer this service in my Boutique. What do you think? Is there a market for this?

Each is a mix of ink, watercolor, acrylic, and glitter. There had to be glitter!

IMG_8844

My little Sugarwings has been doing some artwork too.  She needed to make 16 Valentines for school, so I turned her loose with my red and pink paints and some glitter gel.  She was enjoying the job, but was even more excited to think about the cards her friends were making for her.  Their party is Monday after Valentine's, which is lucky, because she was sick on Friday.

Diecuts
Speaking of lucky, I've been getting some wonderful gifts in the mail! An envelope full of vintage die cuts came from Ruth, (who is one of the participants in our Alice Tag Book Swap– its not too late to enter if you want to join us!)

Labels
This giant selection of red gummed labels came from Kathy, along with the cute heart collage and the round stacking boxes. I can't wait to gaudy up those babies.

I think that these labels will come in very handy on my Alice swap tags.

IMG_8758

Then, I got a package from Sue

that was filled to the top with pretty papers for me and for Sugarwings! Along with lots of fun tid bits for my fairy grand baby to craft with, stickers, tags, and even sticky paper to make your own stickers with.  She used some over the painted Valentines she made for school.

There was a set of fairy wings for a doll too!  Sweet, huh?

IMG_8755
But that is not all! My pal, Tiffany sent a beautiful card from one of her photos and inside it was this Glenda bookmark.  Just because.  And Jenn sent a cute Valentine, which was a sweet surprise.

IMG_8840
And I can't forget to mention the Valentine calendar that my Sissy sent for all of us to copy and use (previous post).  I ended up putting a copy in my scrapbook today, but instead of a photo, I added two columns clipped out of the newspaper this week. They are both written by Lori Carson, who was the host for the Romantic Decorating Tips I did for the local news station (here and here). She used the tips for her column too, and gave credit to my blog.

Yep, I'm pretty lucky.  Thank you to everyone who comes by my blog to keep me company and to all the great blog friends that I've met.  Thank you for 3 years of fun. My blog means a lot to me, and so does your company.

I hope you'll continue keeping me company as I blather on in the future!

3 years, 700 posts, a swap, some puppies, and a bonus giveaway, all coming up!

A year ago this time, I was posting puppy pictures.  Here is Twinkle and her one true love, Teddy, with their one year old daughter, Bella (middle).  Isn't she a pretty pup?  Hopefully, we'll have a few more little dorks running around the house in 60 days or so.  I'd better have some puppies, 3 are already spoken for!

Aliceleelee 042

Last year this time, I was hosting a Puppy Love Tag Swap.  It was such fun, I'm thinking about hosting another, but since I don't have puppies around yet, how about an Alice swap?  No, not this little Alice! I mean an Alice in Wonderland tag book swap?

Alice
The rules will be very similar to last year's swap. I'll write them up and get back to you for a sign up, I just wanted to plant the idea for now.  Anyone interested?

As  a Tim Burton and Johnny Depp fan, I'm so excited about the Alice movie coming out soon! The previews have been glorious.

Along with the details, I'll also post some pages from a vintage Alice in Wonderland book that Beth gave me, if anyone wants to print those to use for their tags.

This swap is just what I need to celebrate my 3rd anniversary in blogworld!

3 years and 700 posts are both coming up this week, so I'll have a special gift for you too as a thank you for keeping me company these last 3 years.

Img365-1

If you'd like to win a copy of my book, please leave a comment on any post between now and Valentine's Day.  If you'd like to sign up for the swap, I'll have details coming and a separate post coming for that.

All comments all month count toward my regular monthly giveaway, whatever the heck I come up with for this time. I seem to be so short on time in the studio, that I never quite get done what I need, and still haven't got  a gift pulled together yet. But I will….

A couple of tiny ballerinas

celebrations, Food and Drink, Sugarwings
First ballet class 002
Sugarwings went to her first ballet class yesterday.First ballet class 027

Before the class began, she practiced her moves by copying some poses she saw in photos out in the

hallway of the Art Center.

First ballet class 016

We are so lucky to live in a town with a resource like this. Our art center is vibrant, busy, and there is always something fun going on.  When it was being built, I was on the committee to chose installation artists (I had NO idea what I was doing, I just picked what I liked, and tried to not feel intimidated by the real artists on the committee.)

One of the selected artists was a good friend of mine, Shanna Wagner, who also teaches at the center.  She did this stained glass mural in the stairwell, and it was such a huge project, that she enlisted friends to help out.  My bit is the yellow/orange area to the lower right. The piece is breath taking in person. I just love going to the Art Center and seeing it.

.Wpaper jan2 006

Speaking of breath taking, the speed that the wallpaper is flying out of the shop is astounding! Thanks, guys!!!

Today, I added a few snack packs of scraps.  I have some more to photograph, but some packs are already sold out.  These small pieces are perfect for little artworks, like tags or ATCs.

Its nice to have scraps to use for mini projects instead of cutting up a large piece for a 2 or 3 inch bit.

Beth's cone 003

The packs were what I worked on for a while when friends came over for Craft Day. That and some photo albums that should have been put together a year ago, I've gotten a bit behind on my photos…

I wish every week had a craft day in it!  Those days are the best.  Although, I think Beth was doing an expose on the REAL Karla's Cottage while she was here.  Keep an eye out for incriminating photos on her blog.  I told her to go for it, I've shown some pretty bad messes around here. And when you see a photo of something pretty, that means that the other side of the room is a disaster because I've kicked everything over there out of the way, or else it is just cropped out.

IMG_8300

See what I mean?  Here is the same view, uncropped with the clutter showing around it.   I have a feeling that Beth found worse, though.
Beth's cone 015
About half way through the day, Marilyn mentioned that it was her birthday yesterday!  Luckily, we were prepared for any emergency around here, and I whipped out a cupcake and topper with a candle.1

We also styled a photo of Beth's project for Mary's Artist Class. Notice a third dessert pictured? Yes, it was a day of treats. Homemade marshmallows by Shawn, and brownies from the birthday girl, cheesecake from me and cupcakes from Beth.  Sometimes, pitch-in lunches can be slanted in one direction, can't they?  Shawn also brought a deli tray and I made soup, so we weren't totally relying on sweets for lunch.  Although, that doesn't sound too bad, either.

Beths gifts 024
There are still a few days left to enter this month's giveaway.  I'm offering a foofed up love bird made out of a vintage cotton fiber cardinal.  There are a few in the Boutique also, in case you win one and it needs a feathered friend.

The Snow Princess

Books, celebrations, Chandeliers, fairies, family, Food and Drink, parties, Sugarwings

Snow princess 225

Things are still icy around here and I am still too big of a wimp to go outside.  If it is below 10 degrees, I just don't think a 3 year old needs to be in and out of the car, and even though I am feeling better and over my bug, I didn't want to be in and out of the car either.

Snow princess 040
So we decided to make the most of a snow day, and have a Snow Princess Tea Party.  We got all dressed up for it.

Snow princess 250
Well, kind of.  One of us did at least. I'm wearing my husband's long johns, two sweaters, hair that hasn't seen a fixin in days, and a black lace "wicked witch" jacket.

Snow princess 003

The idea came about when we were out in the studio and I realized that cabin fever was really getting to both of us, if I was letting a baby play with power tools.  So, I started to make up a story about snow and princesses and fairies, and it turned into a 3 hour adventure for us both.

Snow princess 140
(Notice the new chandelier? It was out in the studio, I used it for lighting for above my jewelry display at shows, now it is staying in the kitchen. My son and I hung it last night- More Zero Dollar Decorating!!)

We scoured the studio for props, and made up the story as we went along. I covered Sugarwing's little table in layers of white and slipped pillow cases over our chairs.

Snow princess 075
After creating a snow princess crown, she decided that I should wear it instead of her.  Sadly, she isn't a hat person.  But that is okay, she usually indulges me in so many other ways, that I can forgive her for not playing with all of my vintage hats with me.

Snow princess 157
And what do you serve a snow princess?  All white foods.  Snow ball candy (yogurt raisins) were the hit of the day.

Snow princess 173
Here is the story:

Once upon a time there was a golden haired, happy little princess who loved to dance and sing in the sunshine.  Every where the sweet girl went, flowers bloomed and birds sang with joy, just to be near her.  Butterflies and fairies flit about above her just because she was so fun to be near. And her warm, kind heart always drew them to her.

Snow princess 114
One day, a nasty gnome who liked to spend his days in darkness and gloom heard the boisterous laughter of the happy little princess and all of her flying friends. This nasty gnome hated happiness and his ears ached from the sound of glee that was coming from the friends dancing and singing in the blooming garden.

He crept closer and peeped through the hedgerow to see where this hideous laughter was coming from. And he saw the pretty princess twirling and leaping in the flower beds.  The sight of such playfulness brought pain to his eyes to match the pain in his ears.  He couldn't take seeing and hearing anything as beautiful as this little girl. To him, it was not beauty at all- it was torture! He had to stop it.

Snow princess 118

So, he pulled out his crooked, magic wand and waved it through the air, then pointed it right at the happy little princess and cursed her with a spell to put a stop to all the singing.

The sweet princess suddenly felt a chill. She looked to the flowering ground beneath her silk clad toes and saw the flowers wilt and frost form over them. Quickly, the pond that was filled with long necked  swans started to turn to icy slush, then freeze into a solid sheet of ice.  As the princess looked up, a fat flake of snow fell right onto her once rosy, now pale cheek.  She smiled at his sparkling crystal beauty, even as she felt herself growing cold.

Snow princess 179

All around her, the birds, and fairies, and butterflies flapped their wings trying to warm themselves as their world became covered in ice and snow and the sun was buried behind a gray cloud of doom.

As the nasty gnome still peaked through the ice-crusted hedges, he almost smiled. But he couldn't because he had a heart colder than any block of ice.  But his ears no longer ached from the sounds of song and his eyes were no longer in pain from the sight of joyous dancing.

Because, the pretty little princess who loved playing in the sunlight, slowly turned into a snow princess. Her golden hair became as white as a blizzard and she was as frozen as the ice on the pond. But as she became a statue of snow, her face froze in an expression of wonder and delight as she saw the sparkling snow flakes fall.

Snow princess 123
He trudged away, feeling satisfied with his spell, knowing that her friends would fly away to someplace warmer, leaving the princess cold and alone like he had been his entire life of 568 years.

But as he left, he looked over his shoulder, expecting to see a flight of fairies, butterflies, and birdies deserting their princess.  Instead, he saw something different!  All the creatures fluttered around her, staying close to bring her what little warmth they could.  The littlest fairy gathered herbs to make tea to warm her, as the swans plucked their down feathers to cover her frozen limbs.

Snow princess 158

Because the sweet princess had such a loving and kind soul, no one would leave her.  Even though they were so cold and had wings to fly away from the frozen garden back to sunshine, they stayed with their snow princess.  They would not stray from her side no matter how cold and miserable they were!

Maybe it was the tea that started to warm her. Or the fluffy swan's down?  But she knew that it was the love her friends showed her that warmed her heart and melted the ice that held her captive.  All the love and caring freed the happy little princess and broke the evil spell the nasty gnome had cast.

Snow princess 214

He saw the sun coming back out through the clouds and the flowers shaking off their frost and reopening their petals.  He heard singing, even more loud and joyous than what he had heard before!  This time, he ran as fast as his stubby, gnarly legs would take him, far, far away from the horrid sounds. He ran straight to a cave deep inside of a hill where he could hide forever in the darkness and gloom where he belonged.

Snow princess 245

A rainbow appeared in the sky as the ice storm cleared and the snow princess thawed. She felt the sun on her skin, wiggled her toes in the soft dirt of the garden and grinned the biggest, happiest grin she'd ever grinned before.  But from that day on, her hair stayed white as a blizzard and was never the color of sunshine again.

When she saw her reflection in the pond, she was reminded of the nasty gnome and his evil spell. But she was never frightened when she remembered that day. To her the white hair was the color of the downy swan feathers that her loved ones tried to warm her with.  Her memories of that cold, cold day were of the love and caring that she shared with her friends.

A quick Happy New Year, and a sale extension notice

celebrations

Happy 2010!!  I hope you all had a wonderful celebration to welcome the New Year.  Kanna

(this photo was actually taken at Silver Bella by my friend, Kana, but I thought it looked festive and New Years-ey)  We stayed in with Sugarwings and I bought confetti poppers to shoot off when the clock struck 8pm (as close to midnight as I'd let that kid get).

This is just a quick note to let you know that all packages won't go out till Monday, because of the holiday weekend. Also, the sale is going so well, I'm extending it.  Keep shopping at 50% off in the Boutique!

Details on the previous posts.  Thanks! Now, I've got to run. I have a date with a little girl and a Princess who meets up with a frog.

Its a start!

celebrations, Dorkies (Yorkshire Terrriers), family, housework, Sugarwings

You still have the 31st to enter the drawing for my December Giveaway, and the 50% off sale in my shops goes through the 1st.

Thanks to all of you who have shopped with me!

Repairs 002

I'm getting a jump on my New Year's resolutions and getting some repairs done.  My house has been terribly neglected in 2009.  We replaced the closet door months and months ago, and I just NOW, finally, repainted the door and the trim around it, plus the wall that got dinged up in the process of changing the door out.

I painted the door white, then added glaze to a paper bag brown color, brushed it on and wiped it down with a damp cloth. Quick and easy and such a difference.  Why did I wait months to clean up this area???

My resolution is to not let things slip by me anymore.

(oh, and see the hand weights? They will be getting a lot more use in 2010, that is another resolution!!!)

Repairs 007
This corner was never finished when the door was replaced.  Yesterday, I called the guy who did the work and he is coming back on Monday to fix this floor.  While he is here, I have a list a mile long that he is going to do for me.  Little things that have been bugging me around the house, like doors that just don't close right, a cabinet that needs hung.  Yes, my son is a carpenter. But between taking care of Sugarwings, work, and school, I'm lucky to get him to do anything at all.

He helps with housework, cooks, and gives me neck massages all the time (he is also a massage therapist), so I am not complaining. Instead, I am calling in a handyman who will get the list knocked off in one day.

I'm starting the new year with a whole new outlook.  The fun and chaos of chasing a 3 year old has caused me to neglect my home, and I am not going to let that happen any more.  Things I can't do, don't have time to do and can't get the guys who live here to do are going to be done by our friend, Don, the handyman.

Repairs 004
Some things, I am facing and conquering on my own, like this. Months ago, the screws crumbled and broke off on the knobs of this old cabinet.  Yes, I knew it was coming, they were wonky for a year or two. But I ignored it.   I've been living with a knobless cabinet in my bedroom since summer.

Repairs 010
I am fixing this little problem right now.  Well, this afternoon, at least because there are no screws the right length in my tool kit. There never seems to be the right ones, does there? That is what stopped me every time I thought about fixing it. I had the knobs, just the wrong screws.  So, today, I am taking some glass knobs to the hardware store and getting the right ones.

Repairs 021

After changing the screws on the cabinet and mailing some packages, my New Year's Eve will be a quiet one.  We've filled the wheelbarrows with wood, so we can have a warm and toasty house tonight.  I'll probably rent a couple of movies, and curl up with Sugarwings to share some popcorn.

Repairs 015

Hope your New Year's Eve is a fun one too, and 2010 brings you the accomplishments you want to achieve as well as lots of joy.

(Maybe one of my resolutions should be to NOT go too crazy with picnik editing??? This photo is a tad bit over the top, huh?)

God Bless you, even if you are are a Nebraska fan

celebrations, family, holiday decor, Sugarwings
Cardinal

Boy did we ever get the snow.  My handsome husband spent the day driving around in the  4 wheel drive pick up and pulling stranded people out of the mess. He was having so much fun doing it, that he came home to pick up Sugarwing's Daddy and his cute gypsy girlfriend to go out and be good Samartatins with him.

We live in a town loyal to Kansas Jayhawks, and my husband grew up in Nebraska, so has a Cornhusker sign on his big red truck.  One guy that he pulled out of a drift said to him, "God bless you, even if you are a Cornhusker fan."

He wasn't the only person out saving people from the drifts.  Living in the Midwest is pretty nice. Strangers will come out in the cold just to help you if you need it.

Dressed up
Luckily, we had a little Christmas party for Sugarwings and Pixie Pie before the storm hit, because our big Christmas day event was canceled due to the weather.  We were able to safely get Sugarwings and her Mommy to their family in Kansas City, so they could all be together on Christmas Day, though.  It was very important to get them there, since Nanny passed away this week. Those siblings all needed each other.

Pulling the sled

(As you can tell from Sugarwing's shirt, my husband is also a Jayhawk fan!)

On Christmas Eve, we did our gift exchange and Sugarwings insisted on being Santa and loading the gifts in her new sleigh to deliver them.

Delivering packages

The only trouble was, that the red velvet pants that I'd just bought for her, were not quite the right size and tended to slip a bit.  She walked right out of them a couple times, but was not going to let that stop her from delivering Santa's gifts!

Twinks was asked to play "Max" and Sugarwings was the Grinch for a while too. That sled got quite the workout in the house, but when her daddy tried to take her out to use it in the 4 foot snow drifts, she didn't want to have anything to do with it or the cold.

Grinning

Some of you had asked about the painted tree.  Its on a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood, and I had painted it to decorate for my antique booth at the holidays. I put hooks into the wood and sold ornaments off of it. But this year, I brought it into the living room for Christmas. We used it as a backdrop to take some holiday photos of our little girls.

And since there were little girls around, no vintage ornaments were on the hooks this year, they went up on the chandelier out of reach, instead! Hey, I might be a sucker for those kids, but I am not a fool. If I care about something, it goes where no grabby little hands can get it.

Madison snow

Its been an odd holiday.  Sugarwing's Nanny passed away, we had a huge snow storm that canceled most of our plans, and so many other people's too. But we made the best of it, and celebrated what and when we could.  Holding those you care about close when you can and grabbing snippets of joy where you can find them is what matters.  Enjoying the funny, little moments like watching a miniature Santa walking right out of her red pants, and helping strangers stranded in a ditch are things that made our Christmas '09 something we'll remember.

Of course that fridge full of food to feed 20 some people who couldn't come to dinner is a reminder too.
