Annual Lawrence Kansas Zombie Walk 2012

holiday decor

Witchyme

Before the Romantic Gothic Ghost weekend began, my family mini reunion started.  After picking my sisses and Guncle Randy up at the airport, we shopping at Victorian Trading Co. I found this great white witch hat for $5! Perfect for the weekend.

Rgghost weekend 087

After all the guests arrived, we met downtown for the annual Zombie walk.  I'd made reservations for the outdoor patio of one of my favorite restaurants, but the weather wasn't cooperating very well.

Rgghost weekend 049

It was slightly drizzly off and on, and the air was brisk. Which is a polite way of saying, we should really have dined indoors.  But, I had a blast, and hope our family did too.  I slapped on a pair of Toasty Toes (which I buy by the case every winter) and passed some out to whoever wanted to try them.

Sissy said she was going to sit on a couple, since she has a negative body fat count and is cold all the time.

Rgghost weekend 015

Anyway, they all braved the cold, drizzle, and monsters with me.  We were able to spend the whole evening on the patio, enjoying our meal as the zombies paraded by.

Rgghost weekend 007

That is, most of us. When the ghouls started coming, Dewdrop went for a walk with her daddy.

Rgghost weekend 076

Sugarwings watched most of the ghoulfest from under the table with me.  It was our fort, complete with flashlights and glo sticks.

Rgghost weekend 022

The little fairy looks solemn here, but we had a good time in our fort pointing our our favorite zombies.

Rgghost weekend 063

It wasn't hard to chose, once her siblings came by as part of the shuffling herd of undead. Calliope and Clover were pretty in pink with blood splatters.

Rgghost weekend 059

And Fin was scary too.

Rgghost weekend 061

Clover never left character.

Rgghost weekend 093

Not that she needed any help with her act, but here is a photo that I zombied up with Picmonkey editing.

The march of ghastly creatures wasn't quite over, but these two little zombies stayed for hot chocolate with us instead of continuing on. That was nice.

Rgghost weekend 029

There were some really good ghouls.  My camera had that blob of goo smooshed onto the lens, so most of my pictures didn't turn out between that and the darkness.

Rgghost weekend 070

And I don't think there were as many as the year before. In 2011, there were 850 walking dead. This year, the hoard seemed lighter.

Rgghost weekend 081

Maybe Zombies haven't heard of Toasty Toes and were too cold to come out.

Rgghost weekend 089

As much as I enjoyed the individual creative costumes, my favorite part was when big groups came trudging by together.

Rgghost weekend 018

This guy had a whole entourage.  Mitt Zombie was shaking hands and kissing, or biting? babies.  He was terrifying.

Rgghost weekend 104

I don't know what kind of fake blood they use, but this stuff has some staying power. We went downtown shopping a few days later and the sidewalks were still splattered.

Romantic Gothic Ghost Weekend

Rgghost weekend 216
Our ghostly weekend was a real treat. I just hope my guests enjoyed it half as much as I did! We had such a lovely group, and it was so fun to have a family reunion along with the class, I'm thrilled that my family got to meet some of my friends and see what I do.

This envelope was in a scrap pack of ephemera that Pam won as a door prize, and look at the date!  Our class was exactly 103 years from the day this was written.

Rgghost weekend 157

Another ghostly oddity of the day, was that every single picture that I took of a person had a glowy smudge look to it.  At first I thought all my photos were ruined, then I decided to just go with it and enjoy the ghostly effect, and edit them even more ghostly.

Rgghost weekend 170

I looked on my lens and saw that there was a real life smudge, not a ghost doing it. I'm lucky that I got any photos at all from the weekend!

Rgghost weekend 149

The close ups of things around the room weren't too bad.

Rgghost weekend 120

And except for some halo around the lights, the whole room shots weren't either.

Rgghost weekend 176

But portraits sure had some spookiness to them.

Rgghost weekend 178

I loved every minute of the classes.  Beth's was so much fun, I had to drag myself away to make lunch.

Rgghost weekend 185

I served quiche that day, instead of making it up ahead of time, I wanted it fresh as can be, with eggs just gathered, so waited till it was time to go into the oven to make it up.

Rgghost weekend 187

We also had green salad with cranberries and candied pecans, and a fall veggie mix of squash and sweet potatoes.

Rgghost weekend 218

And of course, way, way too many desserts!  Carmel apple cupcakes, lots of brownies, and these white chocolate witch hat cookies.

Rgghost weekend 127

I set up an extra table for seating in the living room.

Rgghost weekend 126

And decorated it with a 25 cent black lace shawl from a garage sale, and $2 bunches of roses that were marked down at the grocery store.   I cut them short, and made an arrangement with the stems too. Remember how Morticia and Gomez from the Adam's Family always put the stems in the vase and threw away the flowers? I wasn't up to tossing the roses, but I did arrange the stems.

Rgghost weekend 196

With a family reunion going on this week too, it was handy to have that table in the living room, I left it up the whole time, and it got used a lot.

Rgghost weekend 121

Normally, the studio is where we have our family dinners when a big group is here, but this time, the studio was occupied with all of the set up for my Ghoul Friends and the classes.

Rgghost weekend 191

Sugarwings came to spend the day too, her mom was studying and our fairy girl kept herself entertained while we all worked in the studio.  She is getting so grown up!

Rgghost weekend 162

Before our guests arrived, she wanted to get all dressed up in her wings and her new fairy dress from Aunt Bobbie, because she said, "Grammie's friends think I am a real fairy, so I'd better wear my wings!"

Rgghost weekend 195

The puppies joined the party too. They missed all the attention after everyone left! I miss all of our friends and family as much as they do.  The house seems so empty now that its over.

Rgghost weekend 138

Time to plan another party…. While the studio is decked out I think I'll throw another Halloween bash and have my buddies bring their kids over for a craft day to make masks.

Off to the Pumpkin Patch

Dew Drop, holiday decor

Photo
One of my favorite things about fall is the pumpkin patch.  Going there reminds me of my dad, who used to grow pumpkins for me when I was a kid. I loved each and everyone of them, named them, loaded them in my wagon and pulled them around wrapped up in baby blankets.

Photo

I feel like a kid again when I take the little grand fairies to visit our pumpkin friends, and every Autumn, I try to make as many trips out there as I can.  Its a nice walk on a crisp fall day.

Especially since I got to spend an afternoon with my grown up son and his baby.  In our busy world, we don't get a lot of time together.  When he was little, I used to call him my shadow.   In my mind, he'll always be that little five year old who never left my side.

Photo

Time goes on, little ones grow up, seasons change.

Fall is a reminder of the changes in life as well as seasons.  I hope that I am creating some long lasting memories for Sugarwings and Dewdrop. I know that they are doing that for me.  Meandering through the pumpkins every Autumn with the little girls will be something that stays with me forever.

Such a simple way to spend an afternoon, but aren't those kind of days always the best?

Customized scarecrows

Scarecrow 012
Sugarwings saw all my decor for Romantic Gothic Ghosts and wanted to help.  Her tastes run more to the traditional colors of Halloween, while I was trying to keep my palette orange and purple free.

Scarecrow 007

But I admire her work and sense of style too, so I let her have free reign over her project.

Scarecrow 010

We picked up a "Grammy" and a "Sugarwings" scarecrow (half price last week at Michaels) and clothed them in some witch clothes from our dress up closet.

Next came the make up.  Lots of marker and glitter work went into this. At least an hour's worth of foofing.

Scarecrow 024

Then, the ladies got some jewelry and accessories.

Scarecrow 026

Ta Da!

Everyone who is coming to our crafty day in the studio knows how I feel about Sugarwings and her art work.  I think they will appreciate her efforts to welcome them, even if she follows her own palette and differs from our theme, don't you think?

Studioghost 005
The room is ready for our guests, and the treat cabinet is decorated like a "haunted mansion" as Sugarwings calls it. I've been baking up a storm and this will be filled with goodies soon.

Family arrives here on Thursday and my Ghoul Friends, or Lovely Spirits come on Saturday. I'll be pretty busy having fun, so I have pre-posted on my blog for the next few days.

I have deleted the sign up page for Romantic Gothic Ghosts so I don't
oversell accidently.  We are keeping it limited to a small group. But if
you are interested, please email me for info.

Well, no kits are made up yet, but I do have the studio cleaned and decorated for Romantic Gothic Ghosts next weekend. I'm feeling close to being ready.   Maybe I spent a bit too much time on the fun stuff, but the room got cleaned up as I went and its always much more interesting to kind of foof and redo as you clean, isn't it?  That makes me feel like I actually did something other than knock down cobwebs.

Of course, its a Halloween party, so I could have just left those up and gone with that.

Gypsy spell book 036

I decided that I needed another door prize to give away.  Friends and I swapped prizes for each other's events, but I wanted to make a couple more too.  This is a stack of notebooks glued together and decorated.

Gypsy spell book 038

All of the covers, inside and out are embellished, and the notebook paper was dipped into coffee to age it a little.

Gypsy spell book 039

Of course I used "The Good Stuff"!  That is the only way to go.

To hide the seam where the books were stacked and glued, I covered the bindings in vintage black velvet ribbon.

Gypsy spell book 040

In the center of the book, is a page filled with envelopes to hide special tidbits in.

Other door prizes are from Karen and Jennifer.

Jennifer is hosting The Gathering this weekend, and I  donated a couple of prizes to it. A wire wrapped nest and the online Three Wire Workshop.

You can read more about the Gathering on her blog.  My good buddy, Carol. will be the guest speaker and I hope to go to hear her. She is always entertaining and full of info.  Karen's holiday party in Mt Dora, FL is sold out, but she will have another event in Texas in the spring.

Pumpkin 004
If you are wondering why there is nothing new in the Boutique…. well, I've discovered, you just can't do EVERYTHING, no matter how hard you try.

But I get done as much as I can.

Yesterday I made 20 some paper clay pumpkins with sticks as stems, painted them white and they are ready to drop into the Raven's Tea kits (when I have kits ready, that is).   The students will guild and glitter them and add them to the tableau.

Pumpkin 001
That is probably the first time in my life that I have used the word Tableau.

Anywho, the students will get the walnut dyed, coverless book to wrap in ribbon, goodies to make the rhinestone accented tag, and the pumpkin to finish and set next to the teacup.

Gypsy spell book 007

I still have TWO spots left for our own party.  If you want to come out to visit the cottage and meet the chickens and the pups, we'd love to have you!

If you can't come to visit and take the class, but would like some How-to's from me, here is an article coming out in the next Jewelry Affaire. Its always a pleasure to be featured by Stampington in one of their many wonderful publications!

Right now, this is what my kits look like.  I think I'd better step away from the keyboard and get to work!

Dewdrop’s first craft day

Books, Dew Drop, dogs, Dorkies (Yorkshire Terrriers), family, holiday decor, puppies!, Romantic Gothic Ghosts

Gypsy spell book 023

Dewdrop came over with her mom to do a practice class for Romantic Gothic Ghosts.  The babies came outside to play since it was such a beautiful afternoon. I left the studio door open and made a pen for them  right outside.

Gypsy spell book 002

The little guys played so hard, they tuckered themselves out and just fell asleep where they stood. It looked like the aftermath of a fraternity party.

Gypsy spell book 005

One even fell asleep with his head in the food bowl.

Gypsy spell book 013

Dewdrop was perfect at her first big girl craft day. She decided she needed an apron to wear while she worked.  Her favorite part was the pockets, she filled them with so much she could barely sit down.

Gypsy spell book 047

Her Gypsy mama created one of Beth's books for the upcoming class.  Beth is providing lots of great materials, and I got out some of the images from the online class too.

(All attendees get the online class included for free.  I'll be printing off some of the images for them to use too. And if you are coming, mabye these pictures will give you some ideas on what you might like to bring to add to your own book)

Gypsy spell book 034

I made a book while Beth made my Raven tea cup project.

Gypsy spell book 042

It was fun to try the faux tintype technique.

Gypsy spell book 046

No two books from the class will turn out the same, Beth is providing lots of goodies and tidbits, and some kits will differ.

Gypsy spell book 045

My book and Dewdrop's Gypsy mama's book looked very different from Beth's.

Gypsy spell book 044

I can't wait to see all the variations that the rest of the students come up with!

Gypsy spell book 026
Of course, there were lots of breaks to play with puppies.

Gypsy spell book 053

I'll leave you with some more of the pages our Gypsy created, she really had some nice ones.  She made it her own by adding some gypsy colored ribbons here and there.

Gghost studio clean up 023
Isn't this fairy from Linda sweet as can be?

Ghost decor 009
It's sad that the Faery Book Swap is over! I made a couple more pages, as thank yous to some sweet people.  And I have extra covers that I hope to list on Etsy or in the Boutique. If I ever get a spare minute to do it!

In the fairy frenzy, I'd made up about 16 pages for the swap, and didn't need them all of course, so I'll have a few of those to list too.  But I didn't want to use any of those as thank yous. I thought "thanks" deserved something made special just for it.

Ghost decor 010

I still have my family's books, they weren't mailed because we are going to open them all together when everyone gets here to visit for Romantic Gothic Ghosts.

I'm so glad that Guncle Randy, Sissy, Bobbie Sue and Terry can come out to play with us for the classes! We hope to go to see the annual Lawrence Zombie walk if everyone arrives in time, it will be on Thurs. the 4th and family is flying/driving in from Utah, Florida and Indiana.

Then, Friday is shopping at the West Bottoms district, with all the once a month junk and antique stores, as well as Bottoms Up.

Saturday the 6th will be our ghost filled craft day, with Gypsy spells and ravens. Sunday we plan on hitting the Renfest, all decked out in our fairy attire.  A perfect little reunion!!  Plus I get to have my blog friends meet my family, that will be nice.  I'm glad that we are having a workshop while the relatives are in town.

Ghost decor 011

Along with the thank you pages, I mailed out hand made envelopes stuffed with tidbits.  To make these, I looked at a regular envelope to get an idea for the pattern, cut it out from an old book page, folded it up and glued the edges.  Simple, and kinda cute.  I might need to do more of these!

Ghost decor 003

I've gone straight from sweet fairies to gothic ghosts.

These images (provided in the online Romantic Gothic Ghost class) are printed on transparencies and hung around the room.

Ghost decor 048

And the room is a WRECK!  I've started cleaning and decorating, but need to get all the chaos and clutter out too.

I started decorating at the ceiling first, then the cabinet tops around the room.  I'm sure most people would have cleaned the whole room, put away the mess and then started fixing up.  But I got too excited about making the ghosts and had to do the fun parts first!

See how they are hung from tattered tulle on the ceiling?  (I'll have more photos later)

**********

Speaking of photos, I've noticed that no matter how good my camera is, and how well I edit pictures, they NEVER look as good on my blog as they do on my computer files.

I wish I could fix this…. I also noticed that if you click on one to open it in a bigger window, its sharper.

**************

Ghost decor 034

Another instance of backward preparedness- instead of cleaning and making kits, I wanted to make some ghostly images to set around the room. This collage is an old trinket box with a glass lid that Beth gave me. I took out the image that came it in, turned it on its side and made it a shadow box.

A transparency spider image is across the glass, and a ghostly girl is layered over a gothic arch  (from the albums full of pictures and images and backgrounds and patterns that were scanned and added to the online class) and glued to the back of the box. I then added some tatted trim and some very old, beat up flowers.

Its very small, and I seriously doubt that it adds a lot to the over all decor of the room. But it was something I really wanted to do.

Ghost decor 027

We had lots of projects made up for the online class that I pulled out to use around the room too.  This tag is pinned to my new curtains, hung just for the occasion. The tag is one of the "ready to go" bonus images from the class. All you do is print it and cut it out.

The curtains are from the Sparks Flea, and were $1.  When I bought them, they were a hideous, fleshy peach. But I liked the over all pattern and the flocking was cool, so I gambled that dollar and bought them any way, hoping a bowl of dye would take.

It did and now I just love them.!  Thing is, though, I bought them thinking I'd cut them apart to use in projects, and to test the dye, I cut a hunk off the bottom of one to dip.  I loved it so much, that I dyed the rest of the panels and hung them up, even with a hunk missing at the bottom of one.

Ghost decor 026

In the window, is a banner also made from the Romantic Gothic Ghost online classes.  There are tons of projects, decorating ideas, and printable images in the class. I'd forgotten how much there was in it, and had a lot of fun looking through it with fresh eyes.

Everyone coming to the class at the studio gets the online class free too. We still have a couple spots open for our one day party in the studio if you'd like to join us.

Decorating a family reunion on a budget

celebrations, family, Food and Drink, holiday decor, how to's

For the Faery Book Swappers-

Since the 1st is a holiday weekend, its ok to wait till Tuesday to mail your packages. And please note that it will take me a couple of weeks to make that many books and get them mailed back to you!

Downey dinner 12 009
My Daddy came from a large family, and every year, we gather at our "Downey Dinner" to reconnect.  The 9 siblings take turns hosting, and as the family grows older and parents are passing on, it falls to the cousins to take over hosting duties for the pitch in meal.

This year was my dad's turn, so my sisses and I took over as co-hosts.

Of course, I felt like we needed to foof it up a bit! But we didn't want to spend much on top of our share of the costs that we already had (plates, cutlery, beverages, meat, and the hall rental).

Downey house

The Downeys are from Southern Indiana farm stock.  All nine kids grew up in this little house.  So, I thought the theme for the reunion should be kind of down home and country.  I chose red and white table cloths from the dollar store, and collected some old canning jars from garage sales.

My niece had a boxful of clear marbles, and we poured a few into each canning jar to weight them down, and then sat the jars on doilies (from my stash) in the centers of the tables.

Downey dinner 12 013

At Michaels, I found a scrapbook tablet in just the right colors, called "Recollections"  in paper sack brown, sepia, and red.  There was a touch of forrest green too.  It featured love letters and memorabilia, some birds and other pretty little bits to cut out and use as embellishments for our project. It was a little fancier than I wanted, I'd hoped for calico or checks, but these colors were just right, so I went for it.

We decided to make the centerpieces be Family Trees.  So, we printed off a pile of pictures in different sizes and started cutting them out, and gluing them to shapes we'd cut from the scrapbook paper. We tried to make sure that all nine sibling's families were represented in the mix.

Then, we walked around to find some branches in Bobbie Sue's yard and discovered that the lilac bushes had branches that worked perfectly.  Lots of branchy little arms to tie pictures to.

Next, we punched holes and tied strings to the photos, and they were ready to tie to the sticks.

Downey dinner 12 036

We got a little carried away with the photos and made extra, so we took everything off the bulletin board in the rented hall and I added a branch and pictures to that too.

Downey dinner 12 053

After the meal, we announced that everyone could pluck photos from the trees to keep.  And when the party was over and clean up time came, there were none left, so I think that everyone enjoyed them.

Downey dinner 12 049

The Family Trees were a little tall for centerpieces, and I expected to see people moving them aside, but it didn't look like they were much of a problem.  And people spent a lot of time looking at them, and there was some extra mingling with everyone going from table to table to check out the variety of snapshots.

Downey dinner 12 051

My romantic, sweetheart had tied a picture of me from the trees, to his
shirt.  He now has it on his computer bag and carried it through the
airport that way on his business trip.

Downey dinner 12 023

There was plenty of paper left, after making the photo trees, so I decided to make a banner to hang up by the kitchen.

Downey dinner 12 027

It was a fast and simple project, I cut out 6 large rectangles from paper that looked like it would make a good background, and inked the edges.  When there was something pretty on the page like the bird in this one, I cut around it, so it stood out from the side.

Next, I took some of the darker pages and cut out the letters, glued them down and drew around them with red marker.

Two holes were punched in the top and a length of ribbon was run through all the letters.

Downey dinner 12 029

I made the letters free hand. It wasn't a planned project and I was in a hurry.  They are far from perfect, but they did the job.

In the tablet, there were some pages that had this glittery, red "love" on them, so I cut a couple of those out to hang below two of the letters.

Downey dinner 12 031

I used more scraps to make signs for the beverages.  This paper practically decorated itself, all I had to do was cut this out, fold it and write the words on it.

(a sliced star fruit and some fresh strawberries prettied up the jug of lemonade)

Downey dinner 12 035

We took an idea from the Clampetts and covered the pool table to use as a buffet for the salads and main dishes.  The desserts had a separate table.  I knew a lot of treats were coming, so I washed off the piano bench (cleaning the legs and under part extra good) and set it on the table to make more space.  And this photo was taken early on, by the time all the goodies arrived, this dessert buffet was full to the brim!

Downey dinner 12 033

This is just something I thought was funny, yes, I know, weird picture. It looks like the fried chicken is trying to escape from the foil covering it! (or maybe its just waving to the guests as they arrive?)

But you can kind of see the room behind the franken-chicken, and see the red and white tables with the Family Trees on them.

The hall was a nice space, and the perfect size.  There were some gorgeous antiques around the room and many of the framed pieces on the walls were attractive. The ones that were not pretty, or old, we took down for the day. I preferred plain white walls to pink and blue wreaths on the wall with our red and white decor.

Downey dinner 12 046

After eating, we shoved some tables out of the way and set up a corner for group pictures, and I moved the banner over there to hang as a backdrop.

Actually, I didn't move it, I had the Bumbles do it.  Whats a Bumble? Remember the animated Christmas special, Rudolf? At the end, the abominable snowman, who Cornelias calls a Bumble, puts the star on the top of the tree. Whenever I need a tall person to reach something for me, I call them my "Bumble".

Downey dinner 12 070

My sisses and I had a good time co-hostessing the bash.  It was just too bad it was such a quick trip, my husband and I packed up and drove 8-1/2 hours back home as soon as the room was cleaned up, so we could get back to the newborn puppies.
Sparks12 017

I'm glad my sisters are coming out for Romantic Gothic Ghosts!  That will make up for having our sister time cut short due to Twinkle's over active birth of nine tiny Yorkies.  When they get here, those pups will be running around under foot and will be such fun to play with.

Downey dinner 12 003

I bought the $19 scrapbook paper with my 40% off coupon, spent $4 on canning jars, and $15 on table cloths.  We had the string, ribbon, doilies, clear marbles, and glue already.  The only other cost was printing the photos. We did a combo of some from the computer and 11 cent prints from Walgreens.

We didn't have to spend a lot of time on the decor, besides cutting and gluing photos. And we like to have a craft day when we get together any how, so that part was fun.

It was a fast and cheap way to decorate for a family gathering!

Gatherings and Ghosts

celebrations, holiday decor, Workshops

Lave 014
Last week at garage sales, there was a lady selling tons of holiday decor. I bought a few punkin things for about 25 to 50 cents each.   They were the typical bright orange that you see, with some warm autumn tones, but not my style.

So, I sprayed them with white primer, let them dry, brushed on Elmer's Glue, and sprinkled glitter on them.

The tea cup was from the same day of garage sailing, and I thought it was just perfect to use together with the glitzed pumpkin as a  centerpiece for Romantic Gothic Ghosts. (there are a few seats left if you would like to come to the party too!)

This little bit of pretty illustrates what I mean when I say you can decorate for Halloween and not go garish.  I love to set out holiday themed things, but just am not a fan of the tradtional purple, orange, and neon colors that you usually see.

Lave 017
This glittered candle ring is another one that I changed, and I can see myself using it all fall, not just at Halloween. I'll show it in action when I get around to setting out my fall pretties.

488331_10151086683374477_553748681_n
I found all of these dishes while out garage sailing too.  For pennies apiece.  I was thrilled with them!  It was a joy to find some decent sales, this summer I have been disapointed  in the caliber and amount of sales to go to.  I hope I find some fun bargains while on my trip too, my sisses and I usually have a junking day together.

Lave 019
And this looks like it will be good shopping, have you heard about "The Gathering"? Its a shopping/crafting day in St Joe hosted by my new blog friend, Jennifer.

She had asked me to teach that day, but I had too much going on, with trips, puppies, Fairy book pages, etc.  I hope to run up and explore for the day, it sounds interesting. Carol is speaking! And my pals, Nora, and Sheila will be teaching.  Claudia will be selling her vintage wares, among others too- it should be fun.

Jennifer was kind enough to swap gifts for the events. She sent one of her delectable candles to me so I can give it away at Romantic Gothic Ghosts, and I sent her a gift for the Gathering.

89 045

For her party, I sent one of my Wire Workshop nests, along with a code for the online class.  I don't know if she will give them away as a set or as two gifts.

At Romantic Gothic Ghosts, I'll have a few door prizes to give away, but it will be a pretty laid back affair. I'm not asking for sponsors.  I'll probably make a few little gifties as door prizes, and was thrilled that Jennifer offered a gift.

Birdsong is an easy going event too, but this one will be even more so.  I'll be cooking for the group, but am planning do ahead meals, so that I can relax and have fun and be part of the party myself.

Beth and I brainstormed about some treats to serve.  Pumpkin cheesecake and carmel apple cake both came to mind as delicious fall desserts. Once we started thinking about desserts, it was hard to make our minds go to the main dish.  Is there a meal that says "Fall" to you?

Lave 010
She came to spend a day with me while I was on puppy watch (this was written back on 8/20, so at that point I have no puppy info yet, Twinkle is still a roly poly girl)

Beth put on her nurse's hat to help deliver just in case she was needed. I have no idea why she had a vintage nurse cap handy. But then, she has everything and anything vintage, so I am not surprised.  And doesn't she inspire confidence while wearing it?

We had a great craft day, but no puppies. Lave 003
My crafting was more prep work.  This is a dress that I'd purchased the last time Beth adn I went shopping together.  Lave 004

It's made up of row after row of beautiful old  lace! So I spent the afternoon cutting it up, into strips to pack into kits for upcoming classes.  I also packed up stuffing and millinery flowers for the ravens we will be making for Romantic Gothic Ghosts.

I kind of enjoy making kits. Its just plain fun to play with the vintagey supplies that go into them. Expecially when I  have a good friend around for laughs.

Beth’s Gypsy Song and Spell book for Romantic Gothic Ghosts

Books, holiday decor, Romantic Gothic Ghosts, Workshops

New stuff 006
Beth's project for our Romantic Gothic Ghost workshop at the studio on October 6th is unique Halloween crafting at its most interesting!

New stuff 014
She is making a gypsy spell book from felted wool.

New stuff 008
She has been printing vintage images and gypsies onto fabric and gathering up lace and doodads for everyone to embellish their own book.

New stuff 013
She will have a lot of sample pages for ideas and will show you how to make pockets, trim out pages, and assemble the book itself. NO SEWING- its tied and glued.

New stuff 003
Not only that, she will teach us how to make our own faux tintypes!

Now, that is a handy skill to have.

New stuff 020
Beth will provide everything you need to make your own Gypsy Song and Spell book.
