Teaching a Lesson

antiques/junking, Books, family, Food and Drink, give away, Hand Painted Furniture, hand painted signs, paintings, Sugarwings, vintage paper/collage art

Teaching_day_003 I had a teaching day today! It was a fun way to spend a Saturday morning, painting roses with a fellow rose lover!Teaching_day_005 I had set up some treats in my "dessert wardrobe" but mostly we were too busy with our paints and brushes to indulge in the cookies.

Actually I had 2 students.  Gail brought her 10 year old daughter, Deja to learn how to paint a rose sign too. Teaching_day_020_2

Teaching_day_021 I was able to get 2 done myself while demonstrating the flowers.Teaching_day_022

These are on lightweight, metal, pre-made signs. I liked working with them, it was a change from the usual old wood that I use for my signs. Teaching_day_023

While I had my brushes out, I finished Sugarwing’s purple pony that I am painting for her first birthday.  I added a lot of glitter to it, so it will need quite a few more coats of poly, so the glitter won’t be sharp against her baby soft skin.Teaching_day_001_2 Teaching_day_029

Last night while cleaning up my studio to get ready for today’s sign painting, I decorated a candle. I used bits and pieces of paper and trim that were left on the craft table from previous projects and fixed up a candle that had been on sale at Michaels for 50 cents.

What caught my eye about this candle, is that the card stock circle on the top of it, is actually a sticker. Once that circle is peeled off, instead of tossing it, it can be re-used onto something else.  Teaching_day_026

So, I thought it was worth the time to glitter and foof up the cover.  Then, I added some vintage trim to the jar rim, and polka dotted glitter on the jar itself.

Teaching_day_009_3 The pretty angel image I used came from the FABULOUS estate sale that Beth and I went to this week.

My friend, Vicky, invited us to her home early to shop before she was open to the public, and she has the best stuff. She is an artist also, but extremely successful- I’m talking about a 4 story house with an elevator!!!  Wow, you don’t see those in Lawrence, KS.  She does beautiful work and has a similar taste in decor to me (hers is just on a grander scale).

I bought stacks and stacks of lovely old books from her, suitable for all sort of crafts and ideas.  Remember the cabinet I mentioned a while back, that I said I didn’t even use for storage? I do  now! It is filled with books from Vicky.Teaching_day_008

She had some  pinks and whites for my kitchen. The Hull pitcher with the roses on it, was only $5.

The creamer was a gift from Beth! She gets boxes and boxes of things from auctions and sometimes brings me flowery things that aren’t her style.  She brought 2 flats of goodies for me this time.

Teaching_day_012 This scrap book from Vicky was FILLED with vintage images!  For TWO DOLLARS!  Teaching_day_013 I will add some of the images to my Cottage Collage Kit giveaway that I will be drawing names for at the end of the  month, too.(leave a comment to enter)

Let’s, see, what else did I get. hmmm… This cute topiary type pot (that I will glitter up and decorate for Christmas) was $2 too.Teaching_day_016

3 urns for $18 (great for storing wallpaper!), a wrought iron garden bench, and a ton of interesting terra cotta pots (that she gave to me)Teaching_day_031

And a box full of these wonderful appliques!  Her whole house was trimmed out in these, everywhere, all over, even the turret. Yep, her house had a turret. Wow.  My kind of sale!

I’m sure I am leaving some purchases out, I just was overwhelmed by the sale, it was all such great stuff. Check out Beth’s blog to see what she got at the sale too. http://bethleintz.typepad.com/

A Tussy Mussy Fest

antiques/junking, Etsy Goodies, Hand Painted Furniture, magazine pictures or articles, paintings, Sugarwings, vintage paper/collage art

Cones_001 Thanks for all the nice comments about my $1 table. Here it is all finished. I put a dark oak stain and poly over the top to protect the paper and to age it a bit. Then I added gold rub-n-buf to the edges.  I should stain  the legs too, to deepen the paint color and make it richer, but I didn’t want to deal with all the spindles and carvings! I figure it is OK as it is and I kind of like the contrast with the darker top.

I can get so much done in a day, because I know how to "stop" on a project and not keep fussing with it.  Sometimes OK is OK!Cones_005

My buddy, Beth, http://bethleintz.typepad.com/ came over this after noon for a Tussy Mussy Fest.  She was going with a Halloween theme, and made this cone with some great papers she found at Hobby Lobby. Cones_008

I used all vintage wallpapers on the outside of mine, and old sheet music inside.  This cone has one of my hand painted medallions on it, some vintage velvet ribbon, and millinery flowers.

Neither of us signed up for the Tussy Mussy swap, but thought it would be just as much fun to get together and make a few.Cones_009

I will list these on Etsy, but might keep one just to enjoy here in the studio, they look so good on my pink glass doorknob!  That knob is from Anthropology, that store can be PRICEY but has great clearance prices on hardware. I got these half price knobs for $20 each. I wouldn’t have paid $40 for them, but I sure would have thought about it!Cones_013

We used party hats as a base for the Tussies, (I got a pack of 8 at the Dollar store, Beth had cool Dora the Explorer ones).  She and I made cones a few years back for  a magazine shoot and didn’t use party hats, it took us forever to come up with a pattern that workedImg012.

This photo from the shoot was taken by Bill Mathews and styled by Gloria Gale.  It was in Victorian Decorating, maybe 3 years ago?  What a fun shoot, we made up a bunch of crafty things then went to this glorious Victorian mansion and spent the day setting up our projects for photos.  The house is a museum and every time we touched something of theirs we had to wear gloves, it was a bit intimidating, but a unique place to hang out for the day!Cones_016

If you are going to make a tussie mussie, I’d recommend using a party hat as a base, quicker and easier, they come out really nicely shaped, and the perfect size.

Cones_010 I had a teeny snippet of old wallpaper that I hated to waste. Beth quoted Pam Garrison to me, something about vintage wallpaper being too precious to waste a single scrap.

So I turned this blue scrap into a paper doll dress and made a tag out of it.  I thought the shape looked like a dress when I saw it laying on my table. So I drew and cut out a little girl to put into it. (The paper doll tag is sitting on my $1 table’s painted sheet music top).Cones_012

My blogging buddy, Heather, http://prettypetalsboutique.blogspot.com/ ordered a couple of my medallions from Etsy!  She was one of the first people I met when I started blogging and was so helpful to me, I wanted to send her a little thank you with her order. I made a tag for her, and a mini card to go in the package too.  I used one of the legal letters from 1917, isn’t the handwriting pretty? I think is says something about past due taxes, but we’ll ignore that part.Cones

My studio is back to normal-so messy and piled up with stuff I can’t find anything!

Before Beth arrived and the Tussie Mussie Fest began, I was painting a rocking horse for Sugarwing’s birthday.  I got it at a garage sale for $2 and am painting it her favorite colors, with flowers and butterflies.  It is almost done, I am a quick painter. I’d say I’ll have maybe 2 hours into the project.Okoboji_004

I can’t believe my baby will be a year old already.  I wanted to make something for her and start a birthday tradition. It will be nice to make a gift every year, then add some money to a savings account we will hold for her till college.  I hate to buy too many toys, or clothes that she doesn’t really need.

(yes, I  just posted another bad photo of myself)

After the Tussie Mussie Fest, Beth and I went to an AMAZING sale, then came back home for a Panera Bread style tomato salad (with herbs and tomatoes from my garden) and some grilled chicken that I had been marinating while we crafted and shopped.  Not a bad day. Img013  She even stopped to buy a loaf of Panera bread to go with the salad.

I still have some cones to fiddle around with and add prettys to, and a car to unload. Oh my, you wouldn’t believe this sale we were at! It will be so much fun to unload this stuff!!!!

Maybe I’ll find something cool in my new goods to add to the Cottage Collage Kit giveaway- leave a comment to enter, I’ll be drawing a name in a few days.

I am slightly crazy about these medallions

antiques/junking, Etsy Goodies, give away, how to's, paintings, swaps, vintage paper/collage art

Another wonderful day- almost 12 hours of uninterrupted studio time!  That rarely happens, even for me and I am supposedly, a full time artist.

Shopping_016 I got these 3 leather covered books last week when I went estate sale shopping with Beth http://bethleintz.typepad.com/. I knew they could be good projects, and they cost me under $5 for all three.Tags_052

Today I turned them into this-

Some vintage wall paper, rub-n-buf, glue, glitter, roses and ribbons and they are all "Silver Bella-ed Up".Tags_046

I was inspired by the Marie Antoinette Swap that is going on this summer (I didn’t sign up for that one, but loved the look of it). That movie was so spectacular. I still day dream about the colors and pictures in it.

Tags_055

This one is actually a box made to look like a book. The inside was already so pretty, I just added some silver trim over the dark book binding tape and a rose medallion over the hole I punched in the outside of the lid to attach a button shaped crown.Tags_059

I used one of my anaglyptic wallpaper medallions to glue a rose picture to, cut it out and glued it down.Tags_043 (I used one on the front of the other book too)

I bought quite a few rolls of the wallpaper border for 99 cents each at Goodwill. They’ll make such great projects! I love the medallions, there are so many ways to use them!

Today I glazed some of the paper pink and some umber, then added hand painted pictures to the center of each oval.Tags_048

I have been seeing the cutest cupcakes every where I look and thought I’d try painting a few.  But mostly I painted roses, they will always be my favorite and I can paint those with my eyes closed by now.

I like the way the glaze shows off the texture of the paper.Tags_024

I made some note cards with a few of the center medallions.  There was a box of Christmas cards in a cute shape on clearance at Michaels for $1.  They were ugly as they were, so I am gluing my own stuff over their ugly picture.  I liked the scalloped edge that they have and I added hole punches to accent the scallops.  Then I painted a little green vine down the side.  Tags_029

With this note card, I cut the oval out of the wallpaper, I didn’t use the whole strip. Then I put it down over some vintage wallpaper and added velvet ribbon. Tags_041

On this oval, I painted a teeny ballerina and made a tag with her.   This is one of the giant 8" x 4′ tags that I got cases of at a garage sale. (I’m putting some in my Cottage Collage Kits)

Tags_036 Did I mention that I am totally enamored with this wallpaper??

For this tag, I glued part of an old typed letter in the oval, and added a picture and itty bitty millinery flower over it.

The medallions can be used in so many ways.  I will be sticking them everywhere.

I have some for sale on Etsy too, as well as most of the projects I made today, if you don’t see something you like over there, feel free to ask me about it.

Tags_031 I used another one to make a card for my Christmas in July swap partner http://loveofyellowroses.blogspot.com/ (oops, I forgot it was 4 cards, 2 tags!! My friend, Natasha http://natashaburns.blogspot.com/ reminded me).Tags_064

So I whipped up a couple more cards and some tags for her, and then tweaked the two I made yesterday that were TOO YELLOW. I used some gold and walnut stamp ink to age the edges and that helped. I think they’ll be OK.

Everyone was so nice with their comments and encouragement about the cards, thanks.Tags_039

That can’t be all I did today, I was in my studio for about 12 hours straight.  The day flew by, but it seems like I should have more to show for it!

Tags_045

I guess I painted a heck of a lot of these little ovals.  Did I mention how crazy I am about them? I think I might have, and you might be sick of hearing it by now.

But if you aren’t sick of them, I’ll include a painted oval in my give away as part of the COTTAGE COLLAGE KIT drawing for July.  Leave a comment (as often as you’d like) to enter.

Sister Swaps, Buddy Swaps, and some Freebies for you

Dorkies (Yorkshire Terrriers), Etsy Goodies, family, flowers, Food and Drink, give away, how to's, paintings, parties, swaps, vintage paper/collage art

Doll_hat_2 I have had the best day!  I missed having time on my own in the studio in the last couple of weeks. Now, I loved the guests and I loved the trip and babysitting the fairy grand baby is a beautiful way to spend time, but man, I missed my studio!!

I worked all day (well, since noon at least, I had errands to run this morning) and my husband is out of town, if I want to, I can power up with a power bar and work all night too.

I am in the Art Doll Hat swap hosted by http://craftingbycandlelight.blogspot.com/ and have been making plans for that, but also, my sis and I decided to swap art doll hats, both using the same picture.  Art_doll_hat_011

So, here is what I made for her.  Sissy loves to collect, wear, hoarde, and buy tons of jewelry, so I decked out my doll in jewels.

Art_doll_hat_009 She likes holographic papers too, so I used a gold holographic party hat for a base.  The over skirt is my favorite scrap booking paper, a blue with roses. Over that is a bit torn off of an old curtain I found in a dumpster, I thought it tied in with the upper part of the dress in the picture.

I added some gold glitter to compliment the holographic base.Art_doll_hat_007

The crown/hat on the doll’s head is also scrapbook paper that is glittered up with a rhinestone button added. The button was given to me by my great aunt Caroline who just turned 99 this week.Art_doll_hat_006

I gave the doll some vintage flowers to hold and wrapped them up in ribbons to match her dress.Art_doll_hat_017 I hope that Sissy likes the hat better than the Dorkies did. Twinks refused to wear it and Sparkle wore it grudgingly.

Milla_2 Here is the doll that Sissy made for me, look at that great skirt! And the magic wand!! I love it!!

Lets see, what else did I get done today?  I made mailable art for Michelle Wards challenge this month. Etsy_papers_014_2 http://michelleward.typepad.com/how_cool_is_that/  I wasn’t going to participate this month, because it isn’t my style, but I saw envelopes I really liked at http://pennyrabbitart.typepad.com/penny_rabbit_art/2007/07/gpp-crusade-mai.html and thought I’d try the spray paint technique.Etsy_papers_015

Here is the front, (and I bought pretty stamps to use too).  Beth http://bethleintz.typepad.com/gathering_dust/2007/07/beginner-mail-a.html is also doing this challenge, and she is offering to give hers away.  Part of the challenge is to actually use them in the mail.

So, if you want one (ask Beth for hers, she might still have some) or ask me.  I’ll mail them to the first 4 people who ask for one.  Who knows, maybe there will be a little something tucked inside them???Etsy_papers_008  Also, leave a comment if you want to enter July’s drawing for a Cottage Collage Kit.

Speaking of Beth, she and I are doing a crafting day tomorrow in her new studio.  We are also swapping bags of paper goods.

Trouble is, SHE HAS EVERYTHING. What do you trade to someone who has the best selection of craft goods on the planet???

A letter from the School for the Feebleminded written in 1931.Etsy_papers_011  But I wouldn’t be surprised if she already has one.

I also got two rolls of this textured, paint-able wallpaper border at Goodwill today for 99 cents each.  I cut off a length with 3 medallions, glazed it in umber, and added roses to the middle oval.  I included a couple single ovals too, she can add a picture, or who knows what, these are COOL for collage work!Etsy_papers_007

Ipacked up some odds and ends of old papers for Beth and while I was at it, I made up more Cottage Collage Kits for Etsy.  These four are all neutral colors.Etsy_papers_006

I included some of the glazed wallpaper pieces, papers from 1913-1930, a  millinery flower, old buttons, pictures, lace, quite a bit actually. I haven’t listed them yet, if you want one they are $14 plus shipping.  Mini_spa_day_003Oh, I made up 3 aqua themed packs too. It is surprising how long and involved that process is.

Then, I set the table for Friday’s Mini Spa Day at Home for the new mom. Yes, I know I am early, but I won’t be using the table and setting it up is so fun.

Mini_spa_day_012

People have mentioned to me that maybe the new mother shouldn’t soak in the tub. But, she and her mother are both RNs, so I am not worried about it, they know what is safe to do.  I have an assortment of bath enhancers, she can decide for herself if she wants to use one or not, or just enjoy the jacuzzi as it is.  I like to use the Vaseline Intensive Care Bath beads. I think it is pretty gentle, but I’ll leave it up to my guest. Thanks for caring about her and warning me.

Well, I need to pack up a bag of stuff to take to Beth’s to work on tomorrow. We are doing Silver Bella stuff!!  Yay, Bellas!! Can’t wait.

A Winner for the drawing for June and a Winner of a Smile

give away, jewelry, paintings, Sugarwings

June_30_sleepover_001 It is almost midnight and Little Miss Sugarwings doesn’t seem to understand the ‘sleep’ part of having a sleepover.  When I tried to explain it to her, this is what I got.June_30_sleepover_007

She laughed at me.

So, I tucked her back in, gave her a bear to hold and turned out the lights.  I am out in my studio with the baby monitor on, listening to her singing along to the nature sounds of a toy that is supposed to make her sleepy.  So, I’ll make this quick and do a drawing, then go back in and sing along with her if she really doesn’t want to go to sleep.  What are grannies for if not for staying up late and singing with?

Charm_004 The winner is:

http://shessewpretty.typepad.com/  Betty!!

There are 3 charms to choose from, please take your pick.

Tomorrow I will start a new drawing for the month of July.  hmmmm, the question is what will it be???  Thank you everyone for all your kind comments and friendly chatting this month. I’ll be bribing you next month for more!!  All you need to do to enter is leave a comment, any comment, as many times as you want.

Maybe a comment about what the next drawing gift should be???

I hear someone singing my song, I need to run!

First of all, can anyone tell if my blog opened any quicker??? I did some tweaking.Columbia_shopping_005

I should be working, but thought I’d show some of my loot from my trip before I get on with my day.

Aren’t these 3 ladies something?  Hey, it was suggested that we do a Halloween bag swap!! Good idea. And maybe I will save this photo for my bag, I think these old crones could easily be witches!!Columbia_shopping_004

My husband had to work a few hours at Columbia Country Club in Missouri, about half way to St. Louis. (and no, that isn’t a polite way of saying he was playing golf, he really had to work).  So, I shopped at a mall there. It is far from my favorite place to go, and I really had to make an effort to stay there long enough to stretch out my time, there wasn’t a lot of great stuff. But I found all this!

Those bottles will be fun to decorate and fill, and I got a lot of old photos for under $1 each.Columbia_shopping_007

The best purchase (and Twinkle’s fave) is this set of old drawers covered in wallpaper.  How handy will that stylish storage be???

Columbia_shopping_002

Since I slept in the car most of the day, I was up late after we got home.  I painted some more of the outlet covers that I had got in the big bag from Goodwill last month. Only 4 left to paint.  I am selling them on Etsy and have sold a couple from this blog.  These are not listed yet (the 2 switch plates are sold) so all of the outlet covers are available if anyone wants one.  I’ll be listing them later this week, or email me here if you’d like one.

I’m off to work, have a decorating/rearranging job to do today with Beth. http://bethleintz.typepad.com/

Feeling like a Queen and having the Crown to go along with it

Chandeliers, fairies, Food and Drink, give away, jewelry, paintings, Sugarwings, swaps, Travel

Chase_003 Look where I have been!  the Chase Plaza in St Louis has to be the best hotel EVER. Pure luxury. I feel quite quennly when I stay there.Chase_004

These two photos are of the lobby, one from each direction. I am happy to just stand there in the hall like a rube and stare at all the marble, granite, chandeliers that are bigger than my living room,  and the gorgeous architecture.  I’ve stayed there many times, but I never get over my awe of the place.Chase_005

The rooms are newly remodeled, but I loved it when they still had an 80s vibe to them too.  Now they are updated, streamlined and sumptuous.

Chase_010 The restaurants are as over the top as the lobby, and "Eau" is our favorite when we are in town.

I felt like I was visiting "Top Chef", I even ate an amuse boocsh or however that is spelled.  It is French for a one bite appetizer to delight your mouth. Mine was delighted. I’ve seen them served on Top Chef, so felt like I knew all about them. This one was a strawberry brushetta.Chase_012

See? Delightful!  Chase_016

And the salads were so pretty.  Mine had truffles.

There are 3 restaurants in the lobby along with a movie theater.  When the movies are over, an attendant offers you chocolate on a silver tray as you leave. Chase_026_2

The pool is right outside one of the restaurants and I love to lay by the water with a good book (this time it was a Stephanie Plum novel) order lunch with a strawberry margarita.Chase_029

And sometimes I just put down the book and gawk. I never get tired of the beauty of that magnificent, old building.

Yep, I’m a rube.  Tiara_047

I should have packed my tiara!  This is one location where I would have felt properly dressed to have one on!

Barbara http://www.123lavenderlollipoplane.blogspot.com/ sent me this beaut, and not only was this wonderful piece of queenly head wear in the package, she sent presents!!!!!!!!Tiara_044

A hat box, vintage laces,  a sweet fairy for me and a fairy framed mirror for little Sugarwings!!!

The generosity of blogger/swappers never fails to amaze me. I think she really over did it. Thanks, Barb!Img_0229

I got  this photo from Sissy, she has been making gift bags.  She doesn’t have a blog, and makes such pretty things, I had to show you sicne she couldn’t.  I am thinking about seeing if anyone wants to do a gift bag swap?  But later on this summer.  Or, hey, it would be a good one for getting ready for the holidays, wouldn’t it? Let me know if you think we should do a holiday gift bag swap later on!Chase_022

While I was in St. Louis, I didn’t spend all my time eating, laying by the pool or gawking at the big city sites.  I spent a couple of hours working one morning. I did this little chubby cheeked fairy painting and also a commissioned pet portrait.Chase_021

This is the beginning stage of the painting.  Whenever I do a portrait, the first thing I paint is the eyes. If you can capture life in the eyes, you know it will be a good likeness. If not, I throw it away and start over.Chase_024

Here is the finished product along with the photo I was using to work from.

I always wonder what the housekeepers think when they come in and see the suite transformed into a watercolor studio. Or sometimes, I take jewelry to work on while I am at the hotel. I just can’t stand to not get any work done at all for more than couple of days!

Thanks for all your input on my blog being slow. Typepad says that maybe I should try doing excerpts, but I don’t want to do that.  They also said to try not having as many postings listed on the first page. I’ll be keeping all but a few in the archives and see how that goes. Please let me know if that helps?Tiara_049

Today is the 28th, so only two more days to enter the giveaway for the hand painted rose charm.  (and yes, I counted all the "happy birthdays to Beth "http://bethleintz.typepad.com/ )

On Saturday I also have to write an article for the fall issue of Romantic Country and have little time to get it done, so my drawing might be late that day. So you’ll have all day to enter.  And I will start a new drawing on Sunday!  Maybe a matchbox full of goodness?Fathers_day_033

As much as I loved living in the lap of luxury in St Louis at the Chase Plaza, it was good to get home. We went straight to see Sugarwings and took her out to dinner.  I think she wore more than she ate.  I still thought she was cuddly, even covered in some sort of goo that she was eating.  I couldn’t get enough hugs after not seeing her for a few days!

Dumpster redos

antiques/junking, flowers, Hand Painted Furniture, how-to projects, paintings, Sugarwings, vintage paper/collage art

Dumpster_002 Today was mostly a day of primers and base coats. I spread drop cloths everywhere, set up card tables and got out a bunch of junk that needed to be painted white.

I found this little toy vanity/jewelry box at a garage sale last week for $2, and the weird mask thing was in the dumpster that I climbed into.Dumpster_011

Presto chango- and abra cadabra- magically these pieces are now transformed.

A light sanding, 2 coats of bonding primer, and some white paint were added to all these items.  Then, for the mask and the shelf that I also found in the dumpster, I added 3 more shades of white with a sponge.Dumpster_014

Medium grade sand paper, lightly rubbed over the edges of the  toy vanity gave the piece an aged feel. I added a vine of roses to the top of its oval mirror, then a garland of flowers to the bottom drawer.Dumpster_020

  • I was glad I got to get some flowers done, because I had so many things to get a coat of white onto, plus visited with Sugarwings for a few hours today, did yard work and went to the grocery store TWICE.
  • Here is my list of what got base coated today:
  • the 4′ x 4′ mirror from last week’s garage sale (flowers to be added later)
  • toy vanity
  • weird mask thing (finished)
  • a piece of ceiling tin to add flowers to
  • part of a desk, cut in half and made into a nightstand -(pictures later, when I add the finishing touches)
  • the shelf from the dumpster (finished)
  • 4 pieces of a magazine rack I found in the dumpster and took apart to make into wall hangings (pictures later)
  • a small gold frame that I added music paper and flowers to (finished)
  • a metal box with a lid to add flowers to later
  • a watering can to paint flowers ontoDumpster_015

I am not sure about the odd mask. It is interesting, but Not My Style. Although, I do like a bit of funky stuff around.  Maybe in the garden? Or maybe I’ll sell it, let me know if it is YOUR style..Dumpster_006 $15?

Playing with Sugarwings was a good break in the afternoon. After she left, I finished up with the white and then had time to add some flowers.Dumpster_023

I had bought this tiny frame (with an ugly picture in it) when I went on vacation last month and shopped at goodwill in Indianapolis.  Today, I primed, and painted the frame, then glued down old sheet music.  Over that I painted some flowers.

I distressed the frame slightly with sand paper, and coated the whole thing, picture, frame and all, with umber glaze and wiped it off.Dumpster_004 $35 if anyone wants to buy it. I will add it to my Etsy shop next week, or email me here before then.

My handsome son, Ryan, came down to the studio to talk while I painted.  He’s good company and loves to chat.  But, he is so shy with other people. I wish he’d meet a girl.  He simply will not get out and meet people, and certainly will never find the love of his life playing his guitar or video games up in his apartment, or hanging out watching horror movies with his mom or staying up all night working out with the punching bag or watching wrestling on TV. That is all he does besides go to work.

He is my biggest worry in what I think is a pretty happy life. I just want him to meet someone he can be comfortable with, but he is so reclusive and shy.  It certainly isn’t his looks holding him back, is it??  What a cutie.

Typical mom, I worry. I want this son to be as happy as Sugarwing’s dad is with his little family.Hippies_001

Sorry, I shouldn’t be running on like this is a diary and I am pouring out my problems.  Back to some eye candy—Dumpster_017

Michaels had swavorsky crystals on sale for $2 a bag.Dumpster_021

I bought a few bags in different colors and shapes. Love the teardrops.

Oh, I forgot to add this soap dish to my list of what I base coated white today. It was brass before. I might add a glaze to give it some age and depth.June_20_011

And here is another photo of my new cafe set, just because I like it and it is fun to get new things that don’t need anything done to them! No painting, no fixing, just unload it from the car and enjoy it!

But I did paint the cement cherub statue. She was spray painted gold, uck.

I HAVE AN ETSY SHOP!!!!!!!!!!

Etsy Goodies, fairies, flowers, Hand Painted Furniture, paintings, Sugarwings, vintage paper/collage art

Etsy_020 I started an Etsy Shop!!http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5099942Etsy_001

I only listed a few things so far.  I will add to it as the week goes by.

Etsy_011 I hope to carry raw materials for supplies, like these garden tags, and some finished pieces like the tags I made up from a couple of the tags always available.Etsy_017

Etsy_015  These tags look like they were meant for a garden center to use to mark their plants.  I have plenty, the offer still goes for 12 for $1, includes postage,(unless you live somewhere overseas, then the postage will need to be added)Etsy_013

I also listed one of my hand painted switch plates.  I have sold a couple through the blog already, and am making more.

I will be listing more hand painted items too.

Well, it is a start, I actually set the shop up and listed some stuff, after saying for MONTHS that I was going to!June_20_003 Wish me luck.

Today started with me going over to Sugarwing’s house to pick her up.  She was sound asleep, but always wakes with a smile!June_20_001

Their place is a rental, but that is no reason to live with plain walls!  I faux finished these for her to enjoy. When they move out, a quick coat of white over it will get their deposit back.

Her bed is painted with fairies, the one on the right is a Dorothy fairy, Sugarwing’s mama is a big Wizard of Oz fan.

I got this bed for her on clearance for 75% off. It had been $1,000!!! My god, who pays $1,000 for a baby bed?????? I was happy with this cool bed for $250, though.

June_20_005 We picked up my niece and met a group of friends for coffee (for the moms, not the girls, they had juice) at Bella Bistro.  Lovely murals there to enjoy. (not mine, although I have a few murals at places here in Lawrence)June_20_008

While my fairy grand baby is napping, I went out to pull some garden weeds.

It is starting to look good out there! The green tomatoes are getting bigger.

My husband tried to help by tying up the tomato plants for me, but he used old mop handles, broken bits of wood, and metal fence stakes for posts.  He honestly sees nothing wrong with that. I tried to politely explain that it was sweet of him to help, but that I wanted a prettier garden.  Oh well, the tomatoes will grow and cover it all up with green and I’ll never notice the mop handles. I guess I am just lucky to have a husband who helps.

I just found out that my tiara swap partner

and I have the same birthday, 5-5-58!  Now I am curious to find out how close horoscopes actually are. I want to quiz her to see how Taurus-ey we match up.Tiara_043

I wrapped her tiara up like a birthday present with some sparkling tissue and a dangling purple crystal.  And of course a flower, us May girls love flowers–"April showers bring May flowers".  My mother always used to tell me that meant me, I was her May flower.

Tiara_035Barb’s address is 123 Lavender Lollipop Lane, so I made a tag for the package with a hand painted purple lollipop all glittered up and tied with a bow.

I like to mix collage work with hand painting.  I am such a quick painter that it is actually faster for me to paint something than to dither through all the boxes and shelves of papers I collect to decide what to add next.  But, then half the fun of doing any collage work is playing with all that gorgeous paper you collect!Tiara_041

And of course, the lollipop had to have a crown too.

I painted the lollipop on watercolor paper, cut it out and glued it to the tag that I had attached pretty scrapbook paper to (on sale at Michaels for 10 CENTS a sheet). Then, the crown was cut out of gold holographic mylar paper, that I glittered up and added crystals to.

I wrote the address directly onto the tag and screwed it up (I have notoriously bad handwriting). So I re-wrote it (more carefully this time, I do tend to scribble) onto a snip of matching scrapbook paper and glued it over the screwed up writing and outlined it in marker.  Sometimes, messing up a project makes it better, I like the added layer of the striped paper on the tag.

Next, I glued a border of sparkling trim (used on the tiara)  to the edges and tied a bunch of ribbons to the top. Then of course, the ribbons were in the way when I went to glue down paper to the back of the tag. I do get ahead of myself.

Sugarwings tried on the tiara before she went home after our Father’s Day Extravaganza Brunch.

I should make her a princess crown of her own.  But she’d eat it.Fathers_day_051

More purple!  A verbena started up between the bricks at my garden entry. Last year, I had planted some in the hanging baskets above the bricks.

Don’t those pavers look like they have been there forever?  Actually, it is just simply bad installation.  I did it myself and they are all settling in and sagging.  I like that look, though.Fathers_day_053

I accomplished lots of yard work yesterday, was spreading mulch and trimming up. When I went to the garden center for  a few bags of Cyprus, I found this table and chair set for 75% off.

And since my husband shared his big casino jackpot winnings, not only with his son and dad- but with me! I treated myself to something new. I usually just buy garage sale furniture, but couldn’t pass this set up.  It was $79 for all three pieces. Not a bad deal for such a heavy, well made set, and its very Frenchy looking, isn’t it?

(and look- purple in this shot too)
