Another installment of Bella Blather

Typepad answered me with a fix on the problem with my screen. Hopefully I will get all the way through this posting without any problems. I've not been able to finish or properly edit my last couple of posts due to Typepad's "improvements"!

Still in the slow process of adding to my Etsy shop. I purposely made and prepped WAY too much to take up to Silver Bella, so I'd have an inventory of goodies to add to the shop. Plus Lollishops is opening soon and I've decided to join that.

Now what makes me think that I can keep two shops stocked? And start a new website??? Oh, and did I mention that I have been invited to participate in a local Kansas City sale with those KC area Bellas who made me beam with regional pride with their set ups at Silver Bella!? Elite company, that I am lucky to be a part of! Frenchiesblog

Gwen came up with the idea and Deb of Curious Sofa worked her magic and hit the ground running with a theme and artwork and ads!  Wow, it happened fast and I'm impressed as well as a little overwhelmed. But no way I'd miss being a part of it! Carol, Gwen, and Deb are renting a location today, andBeth and I will be part of the show, as well as some yet to be named artists/antiquers.

Have I mentioned that I am a lucky person??

Sbella booth 424 Here is a snippet from Carol's booth at Silver Bella, cool, huh?Sbella booth 422

She has that special touch with display. Of course, she has great stuff on display, that doesn't hurt either.Sbella booth 423 I'm really sorry that I have so few photos of other vendors, but as I said, it was a shopping frenzy. If I didn't have my pals who pitched in, the Super "S" Girls, Sheila, Stacy, Shelli and Shawn, I wouldn't have survived!Sbella booth 426

Holly had some pastel prettiness going on.Sbella booth 431

And so did Heather. (who has some Bella pics on her site too)Sbella booth 432

Have you seen these bags that my friend, Kim, makes?  Perfectly fitted for toting all your supplies to classes. (Kim also has some pretty Bella photos on her blog now)Sbella booth 433  Of course, everything that Deb touches has that special, Curious Sofa look.  Her booth was wonderful too.Etsy sales 300

After seeing Carol, Gwen, and Deb's neutral pallet booths on Friday night, I was inspired to try something a bit more tone  on tone than what I usually do in my Sat. morning classes.  I sat next to Carol in this Pam Garrison class, and did my best to channel her Carollness and do something neutral. Etsy sales 303

It didn't happen.  All started out ok, lots of grays, silvers, tans, whites and gold papers went into the background of the pages.Etsy sales 302

The next thing I knew, it was covered with fairies and pink silk ribbons and flowers and foof and glittering crowns and all sorts of gaudiness!

Etsy sales 296

In my next class, Portrait Rustique, with Kim Kwan, I tried even harder to go neutral and had better luck.  The frame I used started out pink, I sanded it and rubbed it with a succession of brown inks that got darker with each one.Etsy sales 299

Looks to me like it came out a little bit "Carol-ey".

Well, Typepad and its stinking "improvements" are threatening to freeze up my screen again.  I just got my warning, I'd better go!

Part two of this morning’s interrupted post

Silver Bella

Sbella booth 412

Thought I'd give Type Pad another try, I had to cut off my last post before finishing earlier today, the screen was freezing up and I didn't get to edit, or make any links, let alone finish. Sbella booth 413 Plus,  I didn't want to leave you with the impression that I was upset with sales at Sliver Bella, far from it!Sbella booth 414

The sale was magnificent! I probably sold as much in a few hours as I usually do at a three day weekend  art show.  That is nothing to complain about. I was just saying how it is odd that at some sales, some items are hot and at other sales different things are the ones flying out of the booth.Sbella booth 415

I'm not one to stick with one medium, I tend to like to try lots of things, so I usually have a variety with me. Which is lucky, considering some sale at one show and some do better at others.  And a lot of it is display, the things that are highlighted do better.  Subtle differences in lighting will affect sales too.  Shoppers will look at the better lit areas in a booth, and not even realize they are doing it. I think it is human nature.  Sbella booth 416

Every show is a learning experience and feedback is always welcome.  If you were at my booth last Friday night, I'd'd love to hear from you about what you thought.

Ooops, Typepad is getting goofy again, I'd better get off before my screen freezes up again. Maybe I will have to be doing a lot of shorter posts until this glitch gets fixed. It sure is irritating, but it also keeps me from blathering on too long!

There is more Silver Bella to come, hope you are not getting tired of it!  I have photos of other vendors booths, more class projects, and the magical trip that Natasha, Heather, Andrea and I made to the land of never ending wallpaper!! My gosh, it was a collector's dream come true, thousands of rolls for us to play in.

Don't forget about the giveaway for November, I'll have some photos of that coming too. Drat this new Typepad upgrade, it sucks!

  Sbella booth 534

Did I tell you about the gifts? Bellas  are big on sweets and treats, from the Goodie Bags we get, that are filled with wonderful presents from all sorts of sponsors, from big companies like Fiskers to vendors to Bellas who just want to share.  Plus, swappers have extra treats, and there are hostess gifts and teacher's gifts and gifts just because. Its a generous crowd!  Kim Caldwell made up these chocolate bars and Carol Spinsky had Dove candies printed up special and both brought some to the Glitter Lounge.Trims 012

I think next year, I might be a sponsor. I love those little tiny crowns that I had bought for earrings and might get more of those  to add  to the goodie bags. Sbella booth 409  Its funny, I didn't sell as much jewelry as I usually do at art or craft shows. Now, I am far from complaining, because I sold plenty of other stuff! I have a feeling that I didn't display the hand made jewelry as well as I should have, it wasn't shown to its advantage.  The earrings on the framed display to the left sold well, but the ones spread out on the table and in jewelry boxes didn't.  I learned a lot from this sale, like maybe I had too much in too small of a space? People seemed to enjoy the abundance, but it was quite the pile, and a lot of things didn't even  gett seen.Sbella booth 406

Then, of course, there was Luwanda, who had no light on her and I never got around to turning over the charms she was displaying.  I wonder if people thought she was selling big white blobs? Well, it was hectic, and like I said, I brougth too much, and time was short. Did I mention that I never got around to putting on my shoes???Sbella booth 535

And look at how cute the boots were!  Surprisingly, they are comfy too, and probably would have been better support than being barefoot all night. I went up to the room to change after setting up my junk, and had planned to put on the boots when I came down stairs to get going. But there were people around already and I had last minute things to do and next thing I knew, it was hours later and I was still barefoot.Sbella booth 536

There was also  very little time to shop.  I managed to snag this beauty from Holly and can't wait to try it on the fairy grand baby.  Its way too big for her right now, but maybe by next summer, she'll be wearing this around the house with a pair of fairy wings.Sbella booth 533  But back to the gifts- sweet Tiffany brought these "Glitter Girls Club" ornaments as surprises (you can see the "Shabby craps" on her business cards).  And she wasn't the only one. Gifties everywhere! People shared supplies in classes, all day long, you'd hear "try one of these, you'll love it" or, "here, I brought plenty".

I also learned a lot from the other attendees. From little hints about how to do something, to big ideas like the best way to edit a photo, or how to start a website.Trims 007

Now, I've always been so happy with the ease of doing an Etsy shop (and I added a few things yesterday, and will be adding daily till I get all this leftover crap, I mean lovely inventory, gone).  But on the advice of Heather, Natasha, Carol, and others, I bought my self a little bit of web real estate and will be starting my own store. Details to come, it will be about 6 weeks before Sara can get it designed for me.Sbella booth 410

For months, I've been hearing  about the horrid new Type Pad updates, and was glad I didn't have them. But I was finally hit with them this week, and posting is a nightmare. I think I'll have to leave for now because I just got a note that my computer was about to become nonresponsive due to script on this page! Bye!

Revealing the November Giveaway and Silver Bella part 3, with MORE TO COME

give away, paintings, Silver Bella

Dsc_0160  This is pretty much how I felt the whole weekend at Silver Bella, I laughed my ass off. Well not really, I actually ate so many wonderful treats, I came home with a much bigger butt than when I started.

Meleen Dupree, (what a glorious name, I am jealous) took this photo of my fingernails.  I  had just come from Teresa's class where I tried to wash the color out of a bottle brush tree and the dye stained my fingernail polish.  The polish started out silver, and turned aqua from the green tree! Sbella_booth_451_3

For this project, Teresa gave us stuff to use,  and it was supposed to be a Christmas pageant story, but I changed it a bit to be a snow scene. (If I find my camera battery charger, I'll get some better pics of it, I still have some tweaking to do to the piece yet, too.)

I was trying to lighten the bottle brush tree in the bathroom sink with hot water and soap, but it didn't work as well as the bleach soaking does.  While I was in the rest room, a bunch-o-bellas were in there using the hand dryer or sinks on various projects. I wonder what hotel guests thought about all of us in there leaving trails of glitter and getting paint all over the sink basins?

Kara Ward gave me a tree tip, she doesn't bleach hers, she rubs them with white paint, and that really saved my tree.  The hot water lightened it a little, but the white paint gave me the look I wanted.Sbella_booth_447_2

I found out that you learn every bit as much from the other attendees as you do from the teachers!  (the lovely centerpiece is by Kari, and she forgot to offer them for sale after the luncheon, durn it! I'd have bought one!!)Sbella_booth_453_2

And of course, we got to hear Mary speak at the luncheon and I was surprised to hear how down to earth she was.  During the question and answer period, her answers sounded like what I would have said to the same questions.    She sounds like a person who just likes to create things and is always working on something she enjoys doing.

Here is the poster that we had an option to buy for Mary to autograph.  I didn't get one, but I did get to meet her for a few minutes the night before. Of course, I didn't recognize her, and just blathered on with my typical rambling conversation.  It might have been a bit more interesting if I'd let HER talk or had taken her photo, huh?Sbella_booth_397

There were so many interesting people that I met there!  And everyone seems like an instant friend, we all have so much in common to talk about.

Here is Cheryl, (who looks like a mini ballerina perched in a vintage jewelry box), Tiffany (who was such a delight, I could have spent the entire weekend talking to her), and Sheila (who was such a huge help to me in setting up my vendor booth, I still owe her big time! She lives near by me and I hope we can hang out together).Sbella_booth_389_2 Sbella_booth_395

Cute Pam is almost as tiny as itty bitty, cute Cheryl. Pam seems to be as much of a wallpaper addict as I am, its always fun to discuss vintage papers with a fellow collector.

Although Pam provided lots of good tidbits to use in her class, I preferred to bring my own goodies, and made this holiday home hanger into a ballerina theme confection.Sbella_booth_396

But to keep with the "house" theme,  I added a key to the arrangement.

Pam showed me how to use beeswax over the papers for a different look, and my pal Tiffany (whose business cards accidentally read "Shabby Craps" instead of "Shabby Scraps", I LOVED that!!) gave me some further pointers on how to use wax.

Like I said, you learn a lot from the other crafters attending. I plan on making use of these tricks and adding wax to my supplies in the studio.Sbella_booth_381

Heather came up with a blue color pallet with her house, it was so "Pretty Petals"!Sbella_booth_404

Sally Jean's Soldiering for Virgins was very helpful too. I've soldiered before and the people at my table were calling me a Soldering Trollop instead of a virgin.Sbella_booth_379

But I got a lot out of the class, picking up some easier and more professional ways of finishing the charms.

Sally Jean is a beautiful woman, I'm afraid this photo doesn't do her justice. It also doesn't show all the scars she has from all the burns she has received over the years… Poor thing!Sbella_booth_401

As the scaredy cat that I am, I was afraid of getting burnt in class too.  Lots of novice solderers all sitting close to each other could have been a disaster! But these pals all seemed to know what they were doing and really created some great stuff.

This is Julie and Shelly,  who were responsible for extreme bouts of laughter on many occasions, including "High School Confessional" at dinner one night.

For those of you who were asking me, no, you DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A BLOG to have fun at Silver Bella! It was easy to gravitate toward bloggers to hang with because I felt like I already "knew" them from reading so much about them. But I made friends and spent time with plenty of blogg-less bellas too.Sbella_booth_394

This is probably my favorite creation of the weekend.  Suzanne looked gorgeous in her vintage wallpaper rose charms!  Another thing I'd like to make. But of course, I'd need the great shirt with the roses and crown to wear with them. And her name tag…. Sbella_booth_405_2

And this, is the present I made for you in Sally Jean's class!

One side is a print of my painting of roses, the other is of little Sugarwings.  This is the one that got my table mates calling me a Soldering Trollop, because I added some extra bling to the bottom.

All comments, all month go into the giveaway drawing. And I do read and enjoy each and everyone. But I will have the little Fairy Grand baby all weekend, plus haven't unpacked yet, so I might not return all the emails and comments I get. I hope you don't think I am rude.Dscn0426

Jessi has some good photos posted of the Glitter Lounge on her blog.  Here we are with Heidi (who I didn't get to spend enough time with! I really wanted to hang out with her)

PS- I reopened my Etsy shop, and as soon as I find my camera battery charger, I'll add some new things to it!

Getting our Glitter on

Silver Bella

Sbella_booth_529 Crikey!  I barely got Natasha to the airport in time, we got side tracked by gossiping and by her imitation of a Tasmanian Devil. She was running around the dining room in her pink flowered jammies showing me how the devils move.

Thanks to my sweet husband surprising me by having the gas tank filled, we made it to the airport on time, after poor Natasha having to listen to me mothering her all the way there.

"Are you sure you have enough US dollars left for tips, do you need some ones?"

"I worry about you being short of cash if you are stuck in the airport for a while"

"Do you want some band-aids just in case you get blisters from your new boots?"

She is such a little person to be traveling so far alone and dragging luggage bigger than she is!  She brought out my maternal instincts.Sbella_booth_323 Sbella_booth_331

Natasha and Heather both came bearing gifts and Miss Sugarwings was happy to meet them and wanted to open all the packages herself, including the boomerang for my husband.  She saw the candles I had lit on the table and figured it  must be her birthday again.

Sheila and her sister also brought gifts to the dinner party before the Bella get away.  These candles are famous in the Kansas City area, for their wonderful scents.  And they are even better, topped off with hand made gift tags and wrapped in tulle!Sbella_booth_330

For our party, I made 3 kinds of pasta dishes, and Shawn brought along salads in pasta shells, how cute is that idea?Bethanys20school20and20karlas20pa_2 Sbella_booth_345

And an evening isn’t complete without Shawn’s home made marshmallows!!Bethanys20school20and20karlas20pa_3

We ate in the studio, and everyone pitched in and brought something.  Those are the best meals.Bethanys20school20and20karlas20pa_4

So I could relax and enjoy the guests, I loaded my inventory for vendor night into the borrowed truck the night before everyone came.  But when I decided to take it to the airport to get the girls that morning, I heard a THUNK.

The tailgate flew open along the interstate and I couldn’t get it shut!!!!

I had to fly home (losing some of my vendor goods out the back!! I’m not even sure now what is missing) and get my car and hurry to the airport.

As I was toodling down the turnpike, trying not to speed, I heard a JINGLE JINGLE BANG and I realized that I’d left a huge appliance dolly in the back of the car. No way, that two passengers, each with carry ons and 2 big suitcases each were going to fit in my petiteToyota Scion, which has a pink baby seat in the back. (and is nicknamed the Toaster, or the Lunch Box, it looks like a little toy car)

At that point, I just pulled over along I70, and got the dolly out and left it on the side of the road. So if you were the person that was driving along and stopped to pick up the free dolly, it is me you have to thank for the gift!Sbella_booth_347

After the welcome party in my studio, Heather worked on getting things together for  vendor night, she needed a few odds and ends that I loaned to her for her display.

It would have been fun to have more time to play in the studio, but we knew that we’d be having plenty of time to get our glitter on in Omaha!Sbella_booth_353_4 Sbella_booth_357

As we were leaving, I remembered my disco ball, how could I host a Glitter Lounge without one? And even better, this one was hand made by a good friend, Shanna.  Hand made is always better!

My BIL was able to fix the truck latches before we left, but the thought of losing our stuff kind of stayed in the backs of all of our minds. We wondered if we’d leave a trail of glittery goods behind us all the way to Omaha and arrive with an empty truck bed.

But all was fine, no worries! We met up with some other Bella pals, Carol and Shelly in St. Joe to shop and took Natasha to lunch at Cracker Barrel to show her some down home American style food.

She liked the grits.Sbella_booth_366

Then, we were off to the hotel to get settled and set up the Glitter Lounge.  I mixed pink sugar with the edible glitter to rim the glasses.  But the lights were too dim in the room for the champagne to really sparkle, too bad. Although some one told me that they carried their glass into the lobby and people stopped to tell them how pretty it was.  The light was much better there!Sbella_booth_378

Have you ever thrown a party and in those minutes before it started, you wondered if anyone would show up?  That sick feeling that you’d be sitting alone with your party balloon (or disco ball) and sipping your drink all by yourself?

Well, that happens to me EVERY TIME.  Luckily, everyone, plus more guests showed and we had a blast. We crowded about 45 people into that hotel room.Sbella_booth_380

Pictured- Suzanne, Debby, Andrea– I will post more photos later, when friends send some to me.

So many fun Bellas came, I was so happy to see them, and so glad to have such a COOL room mate who came up with this idea to throw a party.

But there was a problem, I told a friend the wrong room number, 2 floors off, then couldn’t find her to tell her the right room. I was asking everyone I saw if they knew where Jenny was, and then kept running down to the 5ht floor to see if she was knocking on the wrong door.  I felt like such a witch for inviting someone and sending her to the wrong place.  I’m sorry, Jenny! You were missed!!!!Sbella_booth_385

That first night, after toasting the event with bubbly, we had a group class.

Sewing.

ugh.

Sbella_booth_387 But it was fun anyway, even if I am the world’s worst sewer. I realized how negative I was being and apologized to everyone at our table, and then borrowed some glue to finish my project. Everyone else seemed to be so good at embroidery, and I was so out of my element.Sbella_booth_393

My poor Mom, (or Mum as I feel like saying, after a week with the Aussie Chick) must have been turning somersaults in her grave while I attempted to sew my project!

I discovered that globs of mica glitter can camouflage lots of embroidery mistakes.

My other projects turned out better, and I will show them later.

Including the special surprise gift that I made for my November giveaway! Remember, all comments enter you to win this, along with a bit of edible glitter for your own Glitter Lounge party over the holidays!

wow

Silver Bella

Sbella_booth_440 See that ear to ear grin on my face? That is how I felt all weekend! My cheeks hurt from so much smiling. Sbella_booth_363 Oh my goodness, who knew that so many good times and wonderful memories could get jammed into such a short period of time?

There are a few hundred photos to go through and edit, but I wanted to quickly post a few and stop in to say hi.  The fun is still going on here, Natasha is around until tomorrow morning.  I hate to see her visit come to an end.

Sbella_booth_373  Every minute of the event was jammed packed with fun and sparkle.  I want to thank all the Bellas who joined Carol and I in the Glitter Lounge for our kick off party.  What a way to begin a beautiful weekend!Sbella_booth_500

As much of a blast as the whole time was, there is just no place like home, and it feels good to be back in my cottage.  I feel about like Twinkle does here in this picture, ready to stretch out  and relax.  I’ve gotten by on a couple hours of sleep here and there, and plan on a long soak in the tub and an early bedtime tomorrow night.

I have a feeling that when my head hits the pillow, it will be filled with glittery dreams….

Packing it Up, and more about the SPARKLY SURPRIZE GIVEAWAY

celebrations, give away, parties, redos, Silver Bella, vintage paper/collage art

Sbella_booth_289

The bag I needed to pack my supplies in turned up! But after a summer of being filled with sunscreens, picnics, and carried to the lake, it looked a bit rough.Sbella_booth_290

To cover some blotchy spots and stains, I squirted the canvas with glimmer mist.  Is is washable?  Who knows? Will I have blue running down my arms if I get caught in the rain while carrying it?  Could happen.

I also added silver Stickles glitter and a few  crystals.  So, if the color runs away, at least the sparklies will stay around!Sbella_booth_306

Hey, did you see that Hobby Lobby sells Stickles now! Yippee!

While there, I picked up a few things for the trip.  I feel like I am getting ready for the first day of school, with all of these new supplies! I treated myself to all these new goodies, it just makes it even more fun.  There is nothing like the feeling of opening a brand new box of crayons (or color crins, as we always called them) and seeing those sharp points that have never been put to paper yet!Sbella_booth_308

Sugarwings gave me one of her new glue sticks.  I thought Belle was appropriate for the occasion!Sbella_booth_304

The hotel we are staying at has a free breakfast, so I will be well fed in the mornings, but thought it wouldn’t hurt to have some easy to grab food with me when there isn’t much time between classes for lunch.Sbella_booth_295

What else goes in the bag? Trinkets that sparkle,  a book of wallpaper samples, some French sheet music, jewelry tools, mats, and doodads.Sbella_booth_297

Last year, I took a lot of extras with me and was glad I did. This year, the instructors have asked us to bring some extras along.Sbella_booth_292

Plus, it seems like there are a lot of items called for this year, like books, frames, game boards, etc.  Sbella_booth_294

This ballerina pin and card are coming along just because I like them. I have no idea if they will fit into the theme of any of the classes!

Now, the classes all sound really interesting and I’m sure they will be great to take. But- the photos of the projects are more like sneak peeks, and it is honestly hard to tell just what they will be like when done. At least for some of the artwork.Sbella_booth_275

Sadly, I didn’t join in any of the swaps this year.  But my friend, Valita offered to trade some wallpaper and photo album mats for vintage crystals! I jumped right on that.

So, her trade is packed, as well as some special orders and gifts that I am bringing.Sbella_booth_288

Tomorrow, Heather and Natasha arrive! I decorated some little boxes  for the presents I made for them, as welcome gifts.  While I was gluing paper, I fixed up this mini chest of drawers for my roomie, Carol.

If she hadn’t agreed to share a room with me, I might not have decided to go to Silver Bella  because the costs were just too high.  I owe her! So,  I made her a thank you gift and then fixed this up to package it in.Sbella_booth_320

When I clean house, I tend to get side tracked.  While mopping the dining room to be ready for house guests, I just got to thinking how much I hated the table top. It was a blah wood, that was dinged up and cups left rings on it every time we used it.

I love the table and chairs, and really didn’t want to repaint the whole set. Sbella_booth_315

That problem was solved by painting the table top kind of to match, but not too matchy-matchy.  I used metallic champagne paint that I had left over from a previous project, then a gold glaze over it, blending while the paint was still wet.

I like the shimmer the metallics make, and am glad I stopped to do this. It was so much more fun than mopping the floor.Sbella_booth_278_3 Sbella_booth_283

Lets see, supplies packed, house cleaned, table painted, gifts made, truck loaded with my wares, and these wine charms made to give as party favors tomorrow night.

I think I am about ready to go!

These are wine charms that Gwen, Carol and I made up earlier for the Glitter Lounge.  I still  need to pack the pink sugar with edible glitter to rim the champagne glasses for our party.  The Godiva chocolates are in my bag, and ready to be sprinkled with glitter too!

I also need to pack my clothes. Ugh. The worst part.  Did I mention that 10lbs snuck up on me?Sbella_booth_271_2

After packing, I need to run to the post office and mail this silk outfit to my Sissy. She left it with me to tie dye for her and I want to mail ti before I go out of town.  I hope she likes it, it started out a butter yellow, and now looks kind of mermaidy. Silk takes the dye different than the cottons I am used to, so it was a bit of an experiment.Sbella_booth_273

This formerly white shirt goes to her too. I have a raspberry dyed shirt for myself to wear this weekend too.

I’d better get to packing it, I still have a dinner party to get ready for too.

I don’t know when I’ll get to post again. Hopefully after the party tomorrow night, but maybe not till after Silver Bella.

I promise to bring you  a souvenir! This month’s SPARKLY SURPRISE GIVEAWAY will include some of the edible glitter to sprinkle on your holiday treats, and something, who knows what? from my weekend in Omaha.

Leave a comment to enter!

And please excuse me, if they don’t get answered. I’ll be away, then have company, then need to get caught up, unpacking and re-opening my shop.  I will read and enjoy each and every comment, but I am sorry I won’t be able to answer.

Homework

fairies, paintings, Silver Bella, Sugarwings

Sbella_booth_258 Isn’t this mat wonderful? I bought a book full of them this summer – and full of old photos too!

I finished the little sketch that I had started 20 years ago and just stumbled across the other day.  My sissy reminded me that it is of our Grandma Smith.  Although, after I added to it, it doesn’t seem to look as much like her, I might have slimmed her face down a bit too much with the shadows.

Oh well, I still think it will be a good picture to use for the "Portrait Rustique" class that Kim Kwan is teaching at Silver Bella.  We were told to bring a photo, a mat and a frame. I’ll bring some others in case this isn’t quite right, or I am not in the mood to use it.  Gotta have choices when its time to sit down and make something!Sbella_booth_260

While at it, I got some more "home work" done.

For Sally Jean’s soldering class we need to bring prepared artwork in three sizes: 1×1", 1×1 1/2", and 3/4×2".

I printed a bunch of my original paintings and a few old pictures on the printer’s  ‘contact sheet’ setting.  Then, I glimmer misted some old book pages and started gluing little pictures to it.Sbella_booth_263

All of the little pictures got enhanced with sparkly inks.Sbella_booth_265

Some got painted backgrounds.Sbella_booth_267

And a couple got millinery blooms.Sbella_booth_266

All are left on the page, since it will be easier to transport and harder to lose that way.

Good idea, because today I am such a loser. I am turning in circles looking everywhere for stuff I have misplaced.  One thing I can’t find is a big travel bag to pack all  my supplies in. Now there are only so many places that could be, and so far it is in none of them.Sbella_booth_264

Hopefully I won’t lose all these little pictures now that they are ready to pack. I’m bringing a big assortment, plus extra small prints just in case, I never know what I’ll need, or what I will lose on the way there….

A Modeling Career for Sugarwings and an answer to the MEAN comment

Dorkies (Yorkshire Terrriers), holiday decor, magazine pictures or articles, Silver Bella, Sugarwings, yorkies

Sbella_booth_243 Wowwee! Have you seen this yet? Somerset has done it again, this magazine is just so, over the top, good! Kudos to Jo Packham, the editor.

The quality of the photos and stories are every bit as good as the book that preceded it.  Impressive. Here is a link to Jenny Doh’s blog with her post about this issue.

Now, I am really overwhelmed to think that my studio (!?) will be featured in  a future issue of this publication.  Heck, my head might not even fit through the doors of the studio after that, this is a cool thing to be in!Sbella_booth_253

I’m extremely proud to be included in this issue, for this little corner on the back page. A photo I took of Sugarwings helping me face paint at a birthday party was used.

She is not wearing a shirt, so I am hoping this won’t be a big career move for her. I’d rather not see her featured topless in any more magazines as an adult.Sbella_booth_248

And yes, I KNOW I should be cleaning and getting ready for company, packing up supplies for my Silver Bella classes, but I ended up making more bottle brush trees, and while cutting apart the strands of old mercury glass beads,  I decided to bottle a few of them.Sbella_booth_249

If I don’t end up selling these, I think they’d be cute as a bug in my kitchen replacing the spices on my rack during the holidays!Sbella_booth_251

The teeny blue ribbons and gold and white labels are some that I got in a mini swap with my Dutch pal, Lili.Sbella_booth_256

Sugarwings ended up spending the evening with me, so I stopped gluing goodies to trees and took the advice of my friend, Valita, who said I should sell bottle brush tree decor kits at Silver Bella.Sbella_booth_257

I bagged up some trinkets to add to trees, each bag is different and most are best suited for the taller trees, although I’d say that if you were decorating a bunch of little trees, the stuff could be spread out among a few.  The old clip on earrings (that I cut the backs off of) are great to use as ornaments on a bigger tree, but work better as a single tree topper on the tiny trees.Sbella_booth_255

This tree is one of the larger ones, so it could handle a handful of old earrings glued to it.

Tomorrow, Beth, Carol, and I are going to visit Deb and check out the Curious Sofa Holiday Open House.  Deb has quite a way with display,  this should be fun!  Plus, dinner after with my two buds will be a nice way to spend an evening and avoid cleaning my studio.

And I seem to be very fond of dinner lately… I gained TEN POUNDS since I turned 50 six months ago. Is this what being old does to you? A complete shut down of the metabolism?????

Blue_bucket_004 By the way, I got my very first MEAN comment yesterday by someone who thinks Twinkle should not be having puppies.

This person left an purposely incorrect email address, so I couldn’t answer her.   So, I’ll say it here-

Yes, I know that there are LOTS of dogs and cats without homes in the world, and I have taken in my share of them plus donated time to our local shelter,  as well as donating art to fund raising auctions and free murals  that I painted on the walls of the building.Leandra_and_dusty_010_2

Just because I raise pure bred Dorkies doesn’t make me a bad, uncaring person.  These babies will go to people who will love them and give them good homes.

I believe in helping the less fortunate dogs, and have been the mastermind behind some adoptions of homeless dogs, numerous times.  But I still like my Dorky babies and will always have them around. They bring joy to me and to many others.

Just like I believe in recycling and buying as much as I can second hand to help lower my own carbon foot print, but that doesn’t mean I am not going to buy something brand new and shiny here and there too.Sweat_treats_and_roses_106

I heat with wood as much as I can, turn off lights, put on a sweater instead of turning up the heat, run as many errands as I can at once so I won’t waste gas.  I do what I can to save the planet.  But that doesn’t mean I won’t drive across country to take a trip or spend a day driving from garage sale to garage sale.

I guess what I am trying to say, is that I believe in being a responsible inhabitant of our planet, and I do try to do good things. But life is give and take.  You cut back here and there, help out when you can, but you have to live it and splurge on the things you enjoy.

Leaf Looking

antiques/junking, give away, Moving to DC, Silver Bella

Urn Virginia is beautiful this time of year! Actually, it always is, I haven’t seen a season yet that wasn’t pretty here.

We have spent some time in Richmond, so I have been away from the apartment and the computer (I’m too cheap to buy a laptop to take along with me), so I haven’t been able to update or announce October winners till now.

For the main drawing, with the little glittered white pumpkin, linens and a pair of crown earrings, the winner is:

Cammile Fano

And the special Bella additional drawing prize goes to:

Maija Lepore

Thanks to everyone for entering, and don’t worry, there is another drawing this month. It will be for something Christmassy and sparkly and all comments count all month, all posts!Hats

The hat whisperer luck was with me in Richmond. This pink posey bonnet was $4 and included the stand (which I think will be useful to have if I decoupage it with old papers)

The journal/mini ledger was $4, and the aqua floral hat was, yep, you guessed it, $4.  And what did the the roll of aqua flocked ribbon cost? Yep, $4.

So, guess how much the two packs of glue on stones and rhinestone buttons were? Sorry, NOT $4, only $3.  I almost paid the lady an extra dollar so I could keep the $4 streak going, I was feeling lucky with it.Tags

There is more shopping today, I wonder if there will be hats???

I am meeting some blog friends at the Big Flea in Chantilly this morning, and bundled up some little crown tags made from my new favorite flocked wallpaper to take to them.

I might have gone a bit crazy with the crown stamp.  Everything I own will soon be sprouting a crown….Poster

While in Richmond, we took a drive to Vineterra.  I must be getting old, because a long drive in the car through changing leaves seemed like a vacation itself.  Am I now one of those Geezers and Geezettes who travel through the hills in the fall to be a Leaf Looker?Bottles Winery_2

Well, maybe I am not that bad yet, at the end of this trip, there was wine!

And it was served in the most amazing setting! This is a new operation, kind of a resort/upscale club/ neighborhood, all still under construction.

But what is really cool, is that the club houses and the main buildings are all built from salvaged materials.Bricks

Yes, we go to a high class, exclusive place and all I care about are the peeling old bricks.Nails

Well, and the reclaimed lumber and old nails too!Barrels

The beams are from 1860, the floors from 1910.  Every little detail of this place is full of history. Well, history ripped from some other building, but hey, still really old and really cool.  And I love the idea of recycling all the building materials.Course

Club Corp, the company my husband works for is overseeing the building of a golf course there, and we took a cart out to see how it is progressing. Now, I know and care nothing about golf, (well, I do enjoy and care about my husband’s pay checks from it, since as an artist, I barely have one myself) but as a new Leaf Looker, I sure enjoyed the scenery!
