swaps

Its 3am and little old ladies like me should be tucked in and sleeping

antiques/junking, Etsy Goodies, flowers, hand painted signs, holiday decor, how to's, magazine pictures or articles, swaps, vintage paper/collage art, We're having a party

R_country_011 I was pleased to see that Romantic Country is out on the stands and this issue of the magazine is just beautiful!

There are a few fellow bloggers featured and they will be joining in on the party Tuesday.  Come by to meet them and see more of their homes!!

R_country_012 Here is my favorite page!

The photos of my home are from almost 2 years ago and nothing looks the same now.  My living room has been through 3 changes since then and I am planning another soon.

But the biggest change was done by the photo editors at the magazine, thanks to them, my kitchen has a completely new floor plan.  It’s been fun to show the pictures to people today and ask what is wrong with the kitchen. They all stare a few minutes, then yell- "Its backwards!"  Looks like the editors must have cropped a couple of photos together and then flipped them so it is a mirror image of the actual room. Really, it looks pretty cool, it makes me feel like I have gone through the looking glass.

R_country_010 If my photos seem a bit blurry today, it is because I am blurry myself.  My SIL is visiting and we have had a whirlwind day, starting with garage sailing at 7am. It is almost 3am and I am working in my studio now, still decorating for my magazine shoot on Monday.

Here is a detail of a painting I did on glass to make a sign out of an old cabinet door.R_country_003

Oh, no, this one is extra blurry. Or am I just too tired to tell the difference? Maybe it is clear  and I am the one messed up.

We made paper doll dresses tonight, I finished a garland of them for over the window in my studio. R_country_014

This little dress is made from some cute old wallpaper.

I’ve been scooping up wallpaper like crazy, and so has Beth. We decided to share our finds with each other, and she brought me these pieces the other day.R_country_020

Beth and I are in a mini swap of paper doll dresses with Debra and with Betty.

Debra sent a wonderful Halloween assortment to me.R_country_018

And Betty sent some sweeties.

If you’d like to see all of the swap, you can check out our flickr page HERE

R_country_008 These are something different that I made tonight. I hate to waste anything. So when a stained glass lamp broke, I took it apart and turned it into sun catchers.

I cut each section out with scissors, took out the glass, tied a chandelier prism in the opening and added a bow.  These could look good on Christmas trees too. R_country_001_2

Another 2am project was making a wreath. It is hiding in this "Wheres Waldo" style photo of a pile of silk flowers I bought today at a salesman sample garage sail.

Think I got enough flowers???? They were a quarter a stem and were such nice ones.  I bought $17 worth, how ever many that is!R_country_007

If I am able to get out of bed tomorrow, I’ll show more garage sale finds. A granny like me should not be up for more than 20 hours straight!! I’m way too old for these kind of hours.  Good night!!

Nibbing around in Beth’s House while she isn’t home

collections, Etsy Goodies, family, give away, swaps, vintage paper/collage art

Paper_doll_dresses_004 Now I have a new addiction. I love to make these doll dresses! Beth asked me if I wanted to be in a mini-swap with her. She is the in swap hosted by Speckled Egg and Debra mentioned that she was disappointed to have missed out on being in it too. So, Beth set up this mini swap with Debra and asked me to join in.Paper_doll_dresses_011

I’d never thought about making one before, but really got into it, once I drew some shapes I liked for the dresses.  Beth had to keep telling me- "this is not Project Runway!" because I was drawing out elaborate gowns and getting away from the whole "paper doll" simplicity of it.

Which made me think- wouldn’t it be fun to have a ball gown paper doll swap at New Years!??Paper_doll_dresses_009 Thats about as close as I’d come to a glamorous outfit for New Years Eve.

I listed a couple of dresses on Etsy and have one to swap with Beth, and now have an idea for a special one to make for Debra, with a Halloween theme.  I have a feeling I’ll be making more too. It is too hard to stop!!! They are so cute and so fun to do!Paper_doll_dresses_002

Look at what Beth gave to me when I went over to visit her!!! A wallpaper bonanza!  And wonderful patterns too, such perfect colors to work with.

There is nothing like old wallpaper for doing collage work.  I am simply crazy about it.

Beth also gave me a stack of tags she had started to cover with the papers, for me to play with and finish.Beths_housedoll_dresses_002

When I got to her house, she wasn’t home from her big girl job yet.Her husband was just leaving, and he foolishly let me in. So I poked around her house with my camera while I waited.

Doesn’t her husband know that I am curious and nibby?  He should have made me wait on the porch.

Beths_housedoll_dresses_004 In her garage was stuff from the latest auction she’d been to.Beths_housedoll_dresses_005

And here is a collection I found in her guest room.Beths_housedoll_dresses_006

Her craft room is wonderful and filled with pretty inspirational displays.Beths_housedoll_dresses_007

All of the craft room shelves have the supplies set up as art in themselves.

And you’ll never guess what I found under her bed! (just joking, I am not THAT bad at nibbing around)Beths_housedoll_dresses_010

I was delivering the box and bagful of goodies to Beth from the swap she and I did with my Sissy when I went back to visit my family in Indy.  I hadn’t been to Beth’s since I got back, so she is just now getting her pretties!

She’s got some pictures of it all on her blog, its quite a haul!Sissy_swap_party_025

Going through it all made me homesick for my sisters. Sis and I had such fun with the swap we did! Sissy_swap_party_015

And today is my other sister, Bobbie Sue’s, birthday!

There was a rainbow that a crystal prism prjected onto the wall and I asked her to stand in front of it for this photo, and of course, the witch’s hat That Sissy made) seemed appropriate.

And yes, we do have hokey names. Sissy, Bobbie Sue, and Karkie Jo.

Downey_album_021

This week is also the anniversary of my mother’s death and my dad’s (who passed away last year) birthday.

I hope that doesn’t make Bobbie sad every year on her birthday, since her birthdate is forever tied to those dates.

We miss them so much, but I try to do something as a happy reminder of them on anniversaries like this.

Dad was an avid gardener, so I picked tomatoes from my garden and made up big pots of sauce to freeze, thinking about him while I worked. He always had a freezer and a pantry full of his garden produce.

Etsy_scrap_pack_006 Speaking of the last week of August- I will draw the two winning names for the give away on
Tuesday.  You can still enter by leaving a comment if you’d like to.

Downtown Murals by Grandmama and some Witchy Women

Etsy Goodies, family, how to's, paintings, Sugarwings, swaps, vintage paper/collage art

Witchy_women_017 I’ve had an etsy-palooza-blowout week!  I am thrilled (and lucky) to see so much go out of the shop in a couple of days!  Thanks to everyone who bought something, I really appreciate it!

And as a hardworking business woman who wants to get ahead in the world, how do I spend my day?  Do I make more stuff to list? Do I list what I already have laying around in piles in the studio and get my Etsy store restocked??? Witchy_women_018

Nope- I played hookey! I walked around downtown with Sugarwings and her grandpop.  We looked at some of the murals I have painted on business fronts downtown (I’d have photographed more, but my battery went dead!). Witchy_women_011

We rode the mini carousel, went out to lunch, then rented THREE movies to take home for later.

Witchy_women_002 But I did manage to do something constructive before I skipped out for the afternoon to goof off with the fairy grand baby and my handsome husband (did you see those arm???? He lifts weights, I get older and saggier, he gets better looking all the time). I quickly made a couple of things.

Here are the three crones that were in the old photograph I copied for my Cottage Collage Kits.

I glued a piece of vintage wallpaper to a card, then glued it to a piece of black sparkly paper.  Aging ink in pink was wiped on with a sponge before gluing down the lovely ladies cut from the photo.

I cut a frame out of anaglyptic wallpaper, and drew around it with a gold and a silver paint pen.Witchy_women_006

Black and brown ink pens were used for vines and accents around the silver.Witchy_women_005

I cut hats out of OLD black grosgrain ribbon and added a band with a sparkly gold gel pen. The same pen was used for sparkle on their bewitching gowns.

Witchy_women_004 I wrapped vintage millinery flowers around the teeny bit of black gross grain that was left ( I rarely waste anything) and glued it into place to hang the picture with, then added a rose chipped off of an old earring.Witchy_women_007

Since I am so crazy about this photo, I had to do one more picture with it. This is on a piece of watercolor paper, that has been stained with 4 colors of inks, then drawn on with brown ink and gold gel pen.

The trim and the hats are cut from paper salvaged from an old photo mat board.  I made ‘stars’ by adding swvarski crystals.

Witchy_women_013 I quickly added the first witchy picture to my Etsy shop, then ran out the door to go play with Sugarwings.

Tomorrow I get another hookey day, I am going to visit Beth and play paper dolls.  Actually we are doing a mini swap with Debra about doll dresses, I think. (She is also the person that the 2nd witchy picture goes to, we are swapping ATCs)

I have my third movie of the day to go and watch, so I’d better get back to playing hookey and get off the computer!

NOTE: MY WITCHY WOMEN ON ETSY ALREADY ARE SOLD, THANKS FOR LOOKING!!

Simple Scrap Booking and a Simply Beautiful Book

Books, fairies, family, Hand Painted Furniture, Sugarwings, swaps, vintage paper/collage art

gChair_lee_lee_007 Today is Sugarwings birthday party, and I have been finishing up some gifts for her.

She has always loved the toy piano at my house, so I painted a fairy on it for her and am sending it home with her to play with there. I have found another one to fix up to keep here.Chair_lee_lee_006

One more spray of clear coat and her gifts are ready to go.Chair_lee_lee_008

Doesn’t every little girl need a "just her size" rocking chair?  This one has a flock of butterflies painted on it.Chair_lee_lee_004

I also did some scrap booking today.  Those pre-made books by K& Company are the best! I love those small color coordinated books to make mini scrapbooks as gifts, or for special occasions.

Chair_lee_lee_005 This one is a Grandma’s book for my sister-in-law with pictures of her daughter and baby Madison.Chair_lee_lee_002

I used another of these ready to go scrapbooks to fill with pictures of our family reunion this summer.  Here is baby Madison again in the book I made for myself, with her 5 week old cousin, Rosebud (Sydnee).Chair_lee_lee_003

And of course, every one of Sugarwing’s FIRSTS gets documented by her Grandmama.  Here she is at her first carnival during our trip to Iowa.

I keep these books pretty simple and use a lot of stickers, and stock papers. I use a few vintagey doodads here and there, but mostly, these books are quick and easy.  Basically, I want to get my photos into them while the memories are still fresh and I am excited about the pictures. If I let them pile up, who knows if I will ever get them into a book?? Chair_lee_lee_009

This pile of pink and green sweetness is my treat from the Christmas in July Swap hosted by Angelina . These pretties came from Sonya and are all cute as can be.  I have a feeling some will make it into my scrap booking, I like using cards and tags that I receive as gifts in my books. Chair_lee_lee_012

Sugarwings got something in the mail today too! Chair_lee_lee_010

This beautiful book by Tasha Tudor was a gift from Carole ! If you read her blog, you already know she has a big heart.

Chair_lee_lee_011

Time to get to the birthday party. I’m off to celebrate our VERY special occasion!

Remember to leave a comment if you want to enter the giveaway for August.

A One Year Birthday and a Brand New Birth plus a SUPERSTAR Guitar Guy!

antiques/junking, family, how to's, Sugarwings, swaps, vintage paper/collage art

Happy_birthday_leandra_005 My Fairy Grand baby is One Year Old now.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes and blogger love she received!Happy_birthday_leandra_011

Another sweet little baby that is all grown up is my niece’s son, Jimmy Lutton.  He leaves on Tuesday from small town, Indiana for the Big Apple where he begins his tour with Emiko as the bass guitar player.

I watched her concert on TV last week, she has an earthy, emotional voice and I enjoyed seeing her. I want to buy a CD, but I’m too cheap to buy two, so I’ll wait and get one that Jimmy is on!!  Happy_birthday_leandra_012

Michelle Ward ‘s "Crusade" this month is "Make Some Noise".  So, besides being full of Auntly pride in Jimmy’s big break (which he deserves, since he is soooo talented) I wanted to combine a scrap booking photo of him, with the link to Emiko’s site (Jimmy is not playing on it yet).

We were treated to a mini concert this summer, where Jimmy played for the family, so I included photos of the crowd watching him play.  They are slid into a pocket that I made by cutting a triangle from card stock and adding a cut out picture of Jimmy’s mom, Shelli, and my other niece, Stevie to the front of the pocket. TIP: When adding a pocket to a scrapbook for storing extra photos, always have the pocket open to the inside, so that the pictures don’t fall out. (I learned the hard way)

I then punched a star (I always knew he would be one someday!!) into the top of the page and also into 2 photos of him glued back to back and tied the photos to the page with a snippet of yarn.  When the book is closed, his picture just tucks back inside.Blog_gifts_001

Speaking of scrap booking, I found these two old journals today when I was out garage sailing.  One has a slight damaged spot (where the doofusses stuck on a price tag!) but neither book has ever been used.Blog_gifts_002

If anyone is interested in these two books for a project, I can send them both to you for $12, and that should include postage.Blog_gifts_003

And speaking of postage- look what came in the mail while I was on vacation! My order of ballerinas from EtsyBlog_gifts_004

And I just so happened to have a hand carved ballerina shelf to set them all on too!  I will keep a few up there, but will use the rest for projects.Blog_gifts_007

The mail lady was good to me this week.  Cheryl sent me this adorable mail art- yep this little cutie is a hand made post card, that says "happy anniversary" on the back!Blog_gifts_006

And I won a custom made gift package from Natalea filled with pretty things, embellished with "K" for Karla, and lots of roses.  Sugarwings has already laid claim to the white wicker chair.  She can sit her teeny little bottom right on it for now, but soon, the way she is growing, it will have to be a dolly chair.

I think the photo that Natalea (a fellow Silver Bella) took for her blog was prettier, you should go look there to see it better.  Blog_gifts_010

And yes, there is more!  Jennifer sent my art doll hat from the swap .

Isn’t she magical?Angie_007

And because I have been on vacation for over a week, and my house is trashed since I have been so busy from the time I got home till now and haven’t had a chance to get it back to normal- I have been daydreaming about clean, pretty houses.  Like my friend, Angie’s home.Angie_008

Everything about her home is tranquil.Angie_009

and elegantAngie_002

And her dining table isn’t covered with 2 weeks of newspapers that no one has recycled.  I’ll bet there aren’t bags and suitcases piled up in the kitchen either.  Who leaves a suitcase in the kitchen for almost a week? I need to go unpack, I should stop writing now and get to work!

Oh but first, Kaydence_aug_13th_07_1710_008

I am a great auntie again! Kaydance was born the 13th to her mom, Steffi, and her dad, Aubrey, my nephew who is stationed in Bagdad and wasn’t home for his daughter’s birth.    Wish him a safe a swift return back to his new baby, please.

I might get a bit carried away sometimes…….

antiques/junking, collections, Dorkies (Yorkshire Terrriers), Etsy Goodies, fairies, family, give away, jewelry, Sugarwings, swaps, vintage paper/collage art

Sissy_swap_party_084 It feels so good to be home.  I had a great time while visiting Indiana and my family where I grew up, but I am a Kansas girl now, so of course- "There is No Place Like Home!"

Twinkle is glad I am back, and she has someone to play dress up with again. Well, I’d like to think she enjoys these games….

And, I might have bought a few hats while out junking with my sisses and at all the places along I 70 that I stopped at.  I got some great deals and will now have a lifetime supply of millinery flowers for projects!Sissy_swap_party_034

Sissy has this wonderful old dress that she decided she just can’t save from crumbling (she actually gets away with wearing this kind of stuff and looks wonderful) so is going to salvage it for projects too.Sissy_swap_party_037

It looked to us like all these details were hand done! Sissy_swap_party_065

As great as the treasures were that I found while out junking with my sisters, my best deal of the week was at a roadside shop in Illinois somewhere.  I found BAGS of old jewelry on clearance, and wished I could have bought even more.  But I did mention, it was on the way home- after a week of shopping, right??

Sissy_swap_party_066 I will pull out pieces for jewelry making, then some for collage projects, and pack up the rest for my Etsy shop to make up for my splurges.Sissy_swap_party_067

The booth I got it from was selling quart size zip lock bags full of earrings for $6 a bag, and these are nice pieces, not broken or mismatched.Sissy_swap_party_068

A gallon bag of pins, was only $10.  There are lots of poodles, kitties, birds and other creatures, most really cute, except a few owls, but I have never been fond of owls.  Sissy_swap_party_080_2

Pink plastic birdies meant for  birthday candles will be great in projects too.

And I never have enough of these German die cuts.Sissy_swap_party_082

This plate was $2 at Goodwill in Indy.  And I can’t wait to play with these old flocked red birds!!!!!!Sissy_swap_party_074 I see glitter in their future.

This rosey light was at the same Goodwill for $9.99.  The lamp had a shade, but I didn’t care for it. I might foof one up special for it. I will also cover the white center pole (well, I doubt if that is the technical lighting term) in vintage paper.

Sissy_swap_party_076 Goodwill also coughed up this matte white vase for 99 cents.  It is marked USA on the bottom and will fit nicely with my collection.

I dithered over spending $24 for all these doll pieces at an antique store in Greenfield, even tho I knew it was a good price, I was trying to stay on a budget.

But, of course, I caved in and got them, they are too cool not to!

The brass corner pieces were slightly pricey too, $1 each, and I bought a dozen.  They’ll make wonderful additions to collages, and I’ll be glad to have them.Sissy_swap_party_032

One of my favorite things from the trip is this silver necklace that Sissy made for me, as part of our swap.  It is a disc she found a bag of at Goodwill, soldered jump rings onto and added crystals and a chain to.

It is soooo pretty and delicate.  (Beth gets one in her box of goodies from the swap too)

Speaking of boxes of goodies:

If you are interested in my give away for August, please leave a comment to enter (as often as you’d like).  You get a choice of a Cottage Collage Kit (that will be featured in an upcoming Somerset publication) or  an item I have made from the goods that I put into the kits.  (These links are to my Etsy shop and show examples, not the actual prizes)  I will have a 2nd place prize this month too, since I received so many comments!Sissy_swap_party_018

As wonderful as my week with Bobbie Sue and Sissy was, it is good to be home to celebrate Sugarwings birthday tomorrow!  I can’t believe my little fairy grand baby is one year old.Sissy_swap_party_085

Sugarwing’s birthday also marks the one year anniversary of my scrap booking obsession. I made two little pink ones to start with for her, and since then, have gone slightly bonkers.

Of course, momentous occasions like her first pair of pants, her first taste of ice cream, her first well, any thing she ever did, has been well documented in my stack of pretty books.  Happy Birthday, my little fairy girl!

A girly Guest room and a Girl on my head

fairies, family, swaps, vintage paper/collage art

GuestroomWe’re having a wonderful time in Indy, LOTS of shopping- and Sissy has such a pretty guest room set up for me.Ballerina (Well, I’m sure it usually looks like this, but I feel like it was set up just for me)

Looking down on me over the bed, is this sweet little ballerina.Dolls

I can read at night by light of this lovely lamp that sits on the night stand.  She even set out  a framed print of a topiary painting I did to make me feel welcome.Gift_box_045

And look!!–PRESENTS!!

Beth, Sis, and I did a swap.  Here are the beautiful packages Sis made up for us.Gift_bags047

Her gift bags are so nice.  And they are STUFFED with loot.Opening_074

Ooops- well, once I got into the boxes, I found the goodies, that is.  Sometimes, Mod Podge tends to stick when it is humid. August in Indiana means a lot of things are sticky, not just mod podge.

(one trick to prevent Mod Podge from sticking, is to top coat it with a clear water based top coat, which I will add later)

Hat_swap068 Sis and I also did an Art Doll Hat swap.  She found a pretty picture to use, and we both copied it and made up dolls for each other from the same image. We discovered that they make perfect party hats.

Loot_from_sis_077

I adore all the pretties she gave to me. There is even a Dorkie in one of the prints.  Fairies, witches, roses, mermaids, post cards, lovely ladies, soaps, candles, books, sheet music, and so much more were all in the boxes and bags she made up.

I’ll get a close up when the light is better, its great stuff. I can’t wait to start gluing and creating with it all!Bethss_fifts_to_siss057

And here is some of the wonderful things Beth sent to Sis.  Sissy likes witchy things, so Beth made up a tag and a tussie mussie just for her with a Halloween theme.

There were crystals, a mini shell purse, French lace, old trims, an embellished box- so many cute things.

We’ve had such a good time with it all in our swap that we want to host a swap with hand embellished gift bags with a Halloween theme, a bit later on, closer to the holiday. Then another one at Christmas.

Get back to me if you are interested in being in the swap and I’ll contact you when we are ready.Sissy_swap_050

I want to thank everyone who came to visit during Artsy Mama’s Artful Blogger party, and who left a comment.

I’ll answer them when I get home from my vacation, right now we are knee deep in junking, parties, and family reunions.

Also, I wanted to announce that since I got such a ton of comments, I will add a 2nd drawing to my giveaway in August.  Every comment I get is entered into the drawing, and please- enter as often as you’d like.

I’ll come up with a prize for the 2nd place winner. First place is choice of a Cottage Collage Kit, or a piece of something I have made from  some of the vintagey goods in my kits.

Tagged and Tags with a Sissy Swap

family, Hand Painted Furniture, I've been tagged, paintings, swaps, vintage paper/collage art

Img029 22 years (and a waistline) ago on August 10th, I married my sweetie.  We are not going to be able to celebrate this year, I’m afraid between his business trips and my family reunion trip coming up, we are missing being together that day.

After being together for so long, we’ve learned that being together on the date itself isn’t as important as the fact that we enjoy being together every day.

Tags_your_it_008 When I get to Indiana, my sis and I are doing a swap, with Beth.  Sis and I were already doing an art hat doll swap together, and Beth and I have already swapped supplies.  But now, we are making gift bags and swapping some other fun items.

I made this bag from a big brown grocery bag, scrap booking papers, a copy of an old postcard, ribbon, stamps, gold pen and of course- glitter!Tags_your_it_011

Then, I tied on two tags I had made, one with her initial (s for Sissy, or Sharon) and a smaller copy of the same birdie postcard I used on the bag.

The other tag has been stamped with red and brown inks, then one of my hand painted wallpaper medallions was glued to it.Tags_your_it_009

So far, I have packed up a bundle of the bubble silverware that I bought at a garage sale and Sissy liked, a couple of fairy stories from an old book, and a vintage dishtowel with her initial on it.Tags_your_it_008_2

This little hand carved angel is something I bought at the Renaissance Festival a few years back, and repainted. I thought Sissy might like it for her garden.Tags_your_it_013

I also have a glow in the dark garden stake for her.

We decided that we wouldn’t mail the art doll hats to each other, we’d save the money from postage and use it to buy a bottle of wine, then we will wear our hats and drink the wine together while we open up our swap gifts!Tags_your_it_003

I have spent the rest of the morning making tags, since I  was "tagged" by Phyllis for a unique form of the tag game.

You are supposed to write the names of the taggees onto a "world wonder".  But Phyllis used chalk boards and Sandi used green tomatoes, so I figured I could use what I wanted, so I used TAGS.

I started with Kim at Daisy Cottage, with her lively reds and yellows, it was fun to work with a different palette and make this "K" for her.Tags_your_it_004

Next is a wonderful artist, my new blog friend, Bethany . I did some hand drawn swirls and added this artist pallette copied from an old post card.Tags_your_it_005

Next, is my buddy, Beth who has a passion for vintage sewing supplies.  Tags_your_it_006

One of the very first bloggers I met was the wonderful Vicki who was so kind and helpful when I was a newbie.  She also makes the greatest stuff, and right now has a funny story on her blog about things that go bump in the night.Tags_your_it_007

EDIT- Phyllis just emailed me to ask where I found the "Marryville" for Mrs Staggs, her blog is about "Merryville". It was a total random accident and I didn’t know I had done it!!!

And for the kind and genteel Mrs. Staggs who is taking a blog break right now, due to family illnesses. But I thought a little tag in the mail would help cheer her up, and let her know that even though she isn’t blogging right now, we haven’t forgotten her.Tags_your_it

And last ( I think I was supposed to do 8, but ran out of time to make tags, I have a trip to pack for!)

Connie  who is so techno savyy and is always ready to jump in and explain how to fix a problem. Check out the hand made roses she is doing on her blog right now!

OK, taggees, if you want to play, you tag some people yourselves and add their name to a picture. Most people have used photo shop, I don’t have those skills, so I hand made some real life tags.

Tags_your_it_017 Tomorrow, Kari

is holding an Artful Blogger party to celebrate her article in the magazine. She is asking for tutorials, so I decided to post "How to Paint Furniture". It will include step by steps on how I did these two chairs.

Hope you come back to check out the party tomorrow!

August give away reminder

I will give the winner a choice- if you are an artist and want a Cottage Collage Kit filled with vintage goodness, I’ll send that. If you are not and don’t want the kit, I will make something for you from one of my kits!!!  Leave a message to enter, as often as you’d like.  I do love me some comments!

I am slightly crazy about these medallions

antiques/junking, Etsy Goodies, give away, how to's, paintings, swaps, vintage paper/collage art

Another wonderful day- almost 12 hours of uninterrupted studio time!  That rarely happens, even for me and I am supposedly, a full time artist.

Shopping_016 I got these 3 leather covered books last week when I went estate sale shopping with Beth http://bethleintz.typepad.com/. I knew they could be good projects, and they cost me under $5 for all three.Tags_052

Today I turned them into this-

Some vintage wall paper, rub-n-buf, glue, glitter, roses and ribbons and they are all "Silver Bella-ed Up".Tags_046

I was inspired by the Marie Antoinette Swap that is going on this summer (I didn’t sign up for that one, but loved the look of it). That movie was so spectacular. I still day dream about the colors and pictures in it.

Tags_055

This one is actually a box made to look like a book. The inside was already so pretty, I just added some silver trim over the dark book binding tape and a rose medallion over the hole I punched in the outside of the lid to attach a button shaped crown.Tags_059

I used one of my anaglyptic wallpaper medallions to glue a rose picture to, cut it out and glued it down.Tags_043 (I used one on the front of the other book too)

I bought quite a few rolls of the wallpaper border for 99 cents each at Goodwill. They’ll make such great projects! I love the medallions, there are so many ways to use them!

Today I glazed some of the paper pink and some umber, then added hand painted pictures to the center of each oval.Tags_048

I have been seeing the cutest cupcakes every where I look and thought I’d try painting a few.  But mostly I painted roses, they will always be my favorite and I can paint those with my eyes closed by now.

I like the way the glaze shows off the texture of the paper.Tags_024

I made some note cards with a few of the center medallions.  There was a box of Christmas cards in a cute shape on clearance at Michaels for $1.  They were ugly as they were, so I am gluing my own stuff over their ugly picture.  I liked the scalloped edge that they have and I added hole punches to accent the scallops.  Then I painted a little green vine down the side.  Tags_029

With this note card, I cut the oval out of the wallpaper, I didn’t use the whole strip. Then I put it down over some vintage wallpaper and added velvet ribbon. Tags_041

On this oval, I painted a teeny ballerina and made a tag with her.   This is one of the giant 8" x 4′ tags that I got cases of at a garage sale. (I’m putting some in my Cottage Collage Kits)

Tags_036 Did I mention that I am totally enamored with this wallpaper??

For this tag, I glued part of an old typed letter in the oval, and added a picture and itty bitty millinery flower over it.

The medallions can be used in so many ways.  I will be sticking them everywhere.

I have some for sale on Etsy too, as well as most of the projects I made today, if you don’t see something you like over there, feel free to ask me about it.

Tags_031 I used another one to make a card for my Christmas in July swap partner http://loveofyellowroses.blogspot.com/ (oops, I forgot it was 4 cards, 2 tags!! My friend, Natasha http://natashaburns.blogspot.com/ reminded me).Tags_064

So I whipped up a couple more cards and some tags for her, and then tweaked the two I made yesterday that were TOO YELLOW. I used some gold and walnut stamp ink to age the edges and that helped. I think they’ll be OK.

Everyone was so nice with their comments and encouragement about the cards, thanks.Tags_039

That can’t be all I did today, I was in my studio for about 12 hours straight.  The day flew by, but it seems like I should have more to show for it!

I guess I painted a heck of a lot of these little ovals.  Did I mention how crazy I am about them? I think I might have, and you might be sick of hearing it by now.

But if you aren’t sick of them, I’ll include a painted oval in my give away as part of the COTTAGE COLLAGE KIT drawing for July.  Leave a comment (as often as you’d like) to enter.

Tweak or Toss and some Tags with a new Trick!

Etsy Goodies, fairies, give away, Sugarwings, swaps, vintage paper/collage art

Tags_017 Christmas in July is the theme for the card swap I am in and I have a partner who looks like she might be a new blogger, or else, I missed her archives.  http://loveofyellowroses.blogspot.com/ is the name of hers, so I figure she likes yellow and roses.  I don’t do yellow much, but then, maybe I don’t like this card because it is TOO yellow?? I took a copy of a painting I did of Sugarwings, glued it to a too-yellow card, and hand drew some wings onto her and glittered them up.Tags_021

For the 2nd card (we are supposed to send 2 Xmas cards), I used old Xmas sheet music, (green ink, really pretty) and parts of old Xmas cards (with a yellow rose) to add to it, along with glitter and gold paint. The gold helped disguise the too-yellow card I used underneath it all, but then that doesn’t help the inside or back of the card, does it??? I need to tweak or toss these, they aren’t quite right.Tags_023

I am happier with how my tags turned out. I made a few today, just for the fun of it, and, yep, it was fun!  These first 3 have some of the 1918 legal papers that I bought used as a basis, along with hand drawn vines or scrolls, as well as glitter, ribbons, and post card bits.Tags_016 Its nice to photocopy post cards to use, so you can save the original, but nothing is as nice as the texture of a real one, so I cut up the originals and try to use all of them, down to the last little corner!

The backs are covered too, but kept simple.Tags_002

I did a few more tags with some old wallpaper as a basis.Tags_009

And I learned a new trick!!! I have been having a terrible time with ‘writing’ with glue and glitter.  Beth http://bethleintz.typepad.com/ has too, and she posted about it, and got a response from a person named Kathy, who said to use a glue pen to draw with first. So, I ran out to get one (while running what felt like a thousand other errands today, geesh, when is a person supposed to be able to play with glue?? My errands took up hours today).

The glue pens are FANTASTIC!

So easy to control, you can draw with them like a marker, then dust with glitter.

Thanks, Kathy!!!Tags_005

I am going to list these tags on Etsy at 3 for $10 if anyone is interested.

Also, you still have a week to enter my drawing for a Cottage Collage Kit and it will contain some of the narrow plastic tags  and some of the wall papers I used to make these if you want to make some yourself.
