A Kitchen redo and the beginnings of the October Goodie Bag

Img_7669 Sugarwings not only has her own art studio inside  my art studio, she has her own kitchen within my kitchen.

But it was really bugging me, that hers was pretty shoddy looking.Img_7670

So, yesterday, (when I should have been working) I painted the mini kitchenette the same color as my own cabinets (a creamy ivory).

I didn’t repaint the red sink, though, because we fill it up with soapy water to play in and I wasn’t sure that any paint would stand up to that, even that spray made for plastics.Img_7673

The interior of the fridge was still in really good (and cute as a bug) condition, but the insides of the cabinets were just plain fiberboard, so I painted the shelves too.

My niece (also known as the Imitrex Fairy) sent Sugarwings some Faux foods to play with, and I can’t wait for our little sprite to come back over and see her surprise!

Of course, she probably won’t notice it was painted, or has pretty curtains, but I know she will get busy right away serving up plastic ice cream in her frying pan.Sculpy_101

Not much else got done,  I had a lot of errands to run. But while watching Top Model, Top Design, and Project Runway, I glittered up and finished a few odds and ends.Sculpy_102

Everyone has asked me for ravens, but  I am more of a dove person…. I love their pink tummies.Sculpy_103

And I created a "flight" of fairies with some little plastic figurines that Carol gave to me. They were a yucky orange fleshy color to start with, so I painted them all white and pink and glittery, then fairyed them up.Sculpy_104

Each saucy  little gal has a unique hat or crown.Sculpy_105

The sculpy pumpkins that Sugarwings and I made got a coat of paint and glitter too.

The silver one in the front is going to Sheila as part of the Sweet September Prize pack.

And the tall white one in the back will be part of the October prizes.Sculpy_120

Here is what I have going so far for October. Black and white roses printed on a set of 4 vintage linen napkins and a white glittered pumpkin.

I’ll probably find something else to add as the month goes on.Sculpy_117

This morning I listed this pumpkin topped bottle (inspired by Carol’s design for our Romantic Country article) for sale on Etsy.

Here is what I said for the description, instead of writing it twice, I’ll copy and paste from Etsy!

This bottle and crowned pumpkin has a French Vanilla theme, it is all done in tone on tone shades of warm whites. The pumpkin topper is not glued down, if you’d like to actually use the bottle to store something you could. Or you could take the pumpkin top off and store it away after fall is over until next year and display the bottle with out it.

I’ve made the label from old sheet music, book pages and taupe velvet ribbon, accented with a bloom I plucked from an old hat. The neck of the bottle is rimmed with rhinestones and the crown is ringed with more of the same, plus velvet ribbon and a rose pried from old jewelry.

about 8 1/2" tall to the tip of the crown

Sculpy_119 This is as far as I have gotten on the other glittered trophies.  I’m in love with the pink vintage cars!

  1. As always Karla, you have the most wonderful eye candy on your blog! Everytime I read your bog I come away inspired and full of wonderful ideas! I think I like the white doves too – their pink bellies and cute little crowns are adorable!

  2. Sugarwings will be delighted with the makeover I am sure! No way she won’t notice details like that, but it will be close with the plastic food… Hey, maybe you should glitter some of the food? Ya know, a girl NEEDS sprinkles on ice cream for sure….

  3. Thank God for migraine drugs. (I REALLY mean that! Unfortunately I have passed this horrible illness unto my dd, ugh! Just had to comment on the CUTE kitchen. Oh, to have a grandchild. For now, I am living through you! Fried icecream, yum!

  4. OH! I want to come play on the kitchen! Actually, with the remodeling from (insert cuss word here), I have not had a kitchen for over a year now, so maybe I could get one like SugarWings! Nearly have the jewelry project done, I think I have that craft out of my system for good, and that’s okay…I want to play in sculpy and glitter, just like you! Does glass glitter really cut you? I have never used it, it sounds so beautiful, but I never dreamed it would cut your hands…guess I thought it was safety glass glitter??? I know, I know…duh…Your friend, Bobbi

  6. Such a cute kitchen for your cutie-pie! I remember how much fun it was to “play kitchen”. Why isn’t the real thing that much fun? Hmmm….. maybe if I put some cute fairies around it and served ice cream in a frying pan…..
    🙂

  7. Karla, I received my pumpkin bottle today and I LOVE IT! The ribbon matches exactly some roses I have on the table where I put it. Thanks so much. I finally got the new Romantic country. You ladies did great in your articles. You have a great evening.

  12. Oh, I really like the napkins with the black roses! I once thought about doing a kitchen in black and white, they make me think about it again.
I found that same kitchen unit at a sale and got it for my little granddaughter. We set it up in her family’s kitchen and she just loves to “cook” and wash dishes while her mom and dad are doing the same!

  13. I love the idea of a child’s kitchen within your kitchen and you have improved it tremendously. And I think you have done a lot again. I have to put my craftssupllies in front of the tv (too?)!
    Have a great weekend!

  14. Bethany loves her kitchen!! She loves to play in the water too. We have some extra kitchen stuff I’ll save for little sugarwings. We have so much stuff that we have been going through some of it. Oh and I have to tell you I found Bethany a tiny little tea set for $3 yesterday!!!! She will be so excited. She still talks about you as the “tea lady” 🙂

  15. Oh Karla.. I LOVE those little fairies! and the bottles are beautiful! Sugarwings is going to love her new redone kitchen.

  16. Gallons of glitter………..good one carold.lol
I love the kitchen too. And I would not have painted over the inside either. I still have all of my kids play food. I cannot bring myself to get rid of it. Took me back a few years to see that FP teapot. We have one just like it.
My first yardsale I went to today had the most adorable kitchen set and I thought about you and Sugarwings.
I found some good jewelry today Karla and of course you came to mind. I collect 60’s flower pins and I found 4 today. .10 and .25 apiece. Woo Hoo. I’m a child of the 60’s and my maiden name is Flowers. Go figure.
