A Pufik Day

Scrap packs 083

Do you ever make ATCs?  I rarely have, but just recently, a friend asked for one, then I saw that Donna  had a call out for swappers of ATCs on her blog and I offered to do one for her too.  For me, it is always easier to get started on something if I have more than one to make.   I guess I hit my stride and get going once I get into it and hate to stop at just one of anything I make.

Or buy… but that is another story. And you don't want to hear about the jelly beans sitting on my desk right now. I mean, what is left of the jelly beans.

Also, sometimes the first one I make isn't always a keeper.  Like this one.  I should just keep going till I get a better one, huh? The problem was that I like to use authentic vintage pieces when I make something like this and the only old photo I had in the right size was of a little boy.  I tried to transvestite him up into a little fairy girl, but just  might have missed the mark with this one.  That foofy, millinery petal skirt doesn't really go well with the lumpy sweater and knee socks.  Its kind of like a sorry mix, and I am sure that this kid will grow up to have issues.

Sorry, Vicki, you deserve better than this! I'll make another. Trouble is, that is GREAT wallpaper, some that Heather and Natasha shared with me after we visited Wallpaper Heaven.  Its a shame to waste a teeny square of that one. I'll salvage this card to keep for myself.  Or as a gift for my gay brother-in-law. He'll love it.

This little boy is a different story.  Although his clothes are a bit over the top, he is perfect just the way he is ( I barely did anything to this card that was part of a set given to me by Mary. )

This morning, Sugarwings said that about me, out of the blue, she told me that I was perfect! Although it sounded more like "you pufik".  Then, she added, "just the way you are". Now, has she been watching Bridget Jones? I asked her where she heard it and she told me Jimeny Cricket told her that.   Well, if crickets are going to talk to you, that is a nice thing for them to say.  And I'll take a compliment like that any day, she sure made me feel good.

This is the back of Donna's ATC.  I made it on one of Mary's cards too. Gosh, I wish I had a lifetime supply of these, aren't they gorgeous???

At the grocery store today, I couldn't resist this bundle of roses. How springy! I was lucky to get them, the flowers go on sale every Monday for $1.99, and there aren't usually any left on Tuesdays.  This is my lucky day, first, my fairy grand baby tells me I am perfect, then some very important documents I have been trying to get a hold of finally come, and now $1.99 roses on a Tuesday. Man, what else can this day have in store for me??

This too!  My mom's old watch, hasn't worked in years. I took it in for an estimate and found that it only needed a cleaning and a battery, nothing major.  Now that is lucky, Mom loved this watch and I will enjoy wearing it and thinking of her.  I splurged and got a new band for it.  I wouldn't usually be attracted to white leather watch bands, but  today, it just looked right.  I think it compliments the opals and amethysts.

Brunch 044

My husband and I will be heading out East for an art opening and a visit to our apartment out there for a bit, on the 30th. But, you still have till the 31st to enter the drawing for this springtime floral necklace that I made.  I'll draw a name from out computer there, and mail the gift when I get back.

  1. I love creating ATC’s! I just did a set of them for a swap I was in and they came out SO cute! Very different from your gorgeous style, though! Wow! These are fantastic!

  2. Oh, I just adore the little boy in the frilly skirt! It’s perfect!…..although I do like things that are a little bit “off” or oddball! Can’t believe you haven’t made atc’s before! They’re fabulous!

  3. Miss Karla~ What a sweet sentiment from a little fairy angel!! I might have to avoid your blog for a while (just kidding) because now, for some reason, everything NEEDS glitter on it!! As I move my fingers on the keyboard now, I can see them sparkling with what I didn’t get washed off, heehe! I love your little fairy guy/gal card just the way it is. It actually looks like a girl to me. Glad you are going to get to take a little trip.
    Blessings~ LillySue

  4. Don’t you love it that every one from now on is going to use the word pufik?! Yep me too: the atc’s are just pufik! I should make a bunch too, they are so small that they are pufik to send a long with a gift. Give the little fairy girl a hug from me please and tell her that we (my daughter and I) think she is pufik too!

  5. Karla, All of your ATCs are great – that little boy/girl may be confused, but still mighty cute. I’m glad you like the cards; I love the way you’re using them. I want some of the paper ruffle with the little flowers…

  6. Karla, i loved the ATC of the boy wearing the flower petal skirt… i wouldn’t have even noticed his gender if you hadn’t mentioned it…that Miss Sugarwings sure is a charmer:)

  7. Hey, your “back east” spot is around Richmond, VA right?? If you have some extra time you should come down to Raleigh and check out my antique shop!!About a two to three hour drive with LOTS of antique shops along the way! It would be so fun to meet you in person!!

  8. Dear Karla…I wasn’t sure if the title meant, indeed, “perfect” or was a funny way to say you had a stomach flu. So glad it was the first! Just wanted to say that SugarWings is on the right track, I didn’t have many examples of how to be a good person when I was growing up, but in the back of my head, always and still, I hear Jiminy Cricket tell me “Always let your conscience be your guide”! Words to live by, corny as they sound! The transvestite card is a hoot! We need to name him! Your Friend, Bobbi

  9. What a pufik post Karla! Sugarwings is such a doll!! I would be happy to heart those words too! My baby (he is four, just turned four) always says “mommy, your my best friend” and it makes my heart sing!
I think your ATC’s are perfect too! And I love that watch!! It is gorgeous, as are those roses!! What a pufik Tuesday 🙂
    Hugs,
    Amy

  10. I don’t know Karla,
I kinda like the whole “Punky Brewster” look you got going on with the sweater, poofie skirt, knee sock think :)I think there’s real potential for a new sitcom??

  11. I recently discovered your blog and look forward to it now. Thank you Thank you Thank you! (What does ATC stand for? -This is kind of a neat new world to me) Kathy on the Alabama Gulf coast

  12. Hi Karla , I was wondering what ATC was , too? But I do know have your Grandbaby tell you that you’re perfect is the sweetest sound on Earth. By the way , the ATC’s are Darling.

  13. I think your ATC’s are beautiful…so are the roses…what a deal!
Hope you have a great time on your trip…It may be cherry blossom time? Hope to see some pics if it is. 🙂

  14. Hi Karla, I hope that you are feeling
MUCH better. Love your ATC’s and such
pretty roses too! Miss Sugarwings says
    the cutest things!!! : )
Also love your sweet sugar babies with
their crowns! Any for the shop?
Have a wonderful trip and enjoy.

  15. Awww, that Sugarwings is just the sweetest thing. We all know her Grammy is pufik.
ATC’s are short for Artist Trading Cards. Oma Ruth and I have ours in a binder using baseball card holders. I know you would find a way to foof those up too. lol
Karla, maybe you would consider doing an ATC swap? Maybe a little easier than the tag swap. Not as bulky and you would not have to “bind” them. Not that I would trade my Puppy Love tags for anything. I still have mine out and look at it often.
The last shot reminded me of Oma Ruth’s recently purchased dress form. She named it “Viola Rose”.
Count me in on your giveaway. That necklace is beautiful.

  16. Oh that Sugarwings is adorable, makes you just want to grab her up and give her a hug! Can’t wait til my grandbaby starts talking! I think your ATC’s are great, even the little guy with the tutu!
    Enjoy your trip!

  17. I am a big fan on Jimminy Cricket — “When you wish upon a star. . . ” It’s so wonderful he is still speaking to little ones like Sugarwings! The ATC’s are lots of fun, thanks for sharing.

  18. A beautiful complement from a beautiful Sugarwings, a beautiful bunch of Roses, a beautiful watch once again working, and beautiful ATC’s, Yes it is a beautiful day :)….and I love your first attempt at a ATC, it reminds me of small children playing dress up or dressing themselves, their clothes never match but in their eyes they do 🙂

  19. I think sugarwings hit it right on the mark about you girlfriend. She too is a sweetie. I love your Mom’s watch and what a special piece to wear. We are going to Fairfax Friday to see the kids and coming home on the 30th. You all will probably fly over us on the interstate leaving Faifax. We come right by dulles on the way out of town. Have a great trip.

  20. I adore your ATC’s … yes even that little boy! I so enjoy making and trading ATC’s … now you’ve inspired me to make a few as it’s been weeks since I’ve played with mine. Thanks for the inspiration!

  21. Hi Karla, I thought your ATC was really cute, that’s not something I’ve done before either, but the fact that you used the genuine stuff makes it treasure for sure. Don’t you love knowing that your grandchildren think you are pufic? Not sweeter music anywhere than praise from a grandbaby! I love the necklace and would love to win it. Linda@ wwwdesiresoftheheart.

  22. Oh my, I am laughing so hard reading this post!!! How adorable your little sugarwings is!!! She is just pufik, herself!!! Out of the mouths of babes! My son used to tell me I was his “bet fend” (best friend) when he was little, he is now 22 and I tell him he is MY “bet fend” all the time! I think your transvestite ATC is adorable, you are sooooo funny!!! Love the necklace you made for your giveaway, too! Have a great day!

  23. I love your transvestite atc…so funny!
And……awwwwwwwwww so cute! You pufik! Love it! Wish I could hear her sweet little voice as she said it…I sure it melted your heart!
    Beautiful necklace!

  24. Don’t you just love it when everything comes together and you are ready for something big ahead of time? You go, girl!! I love the way the watch looks. I’m so glad you did that. You will enjoy wearing it and thinking of your mom. Your ATC’s are great! I want to try to make some of those, but I agree, it is much easier to make several of something than just one. I always love to see what you have to say Karla!!

  25. Karla, if you’ll be in the VA area this coming week, maybe we can FINALLY get together for lunch or shopping (Leesburg?). And the 3000 cherry trees around the Tidal Basin will be in full bloom during your visit.

  26. I LOVE the back of my ATC! Can’t wait to see the front:) I also love the first ATC that you didn’t like. I can’t even tell the photo is a boy. The skirt is perfect. I also like the tiny round disc type posies on the very first ATC pictured (the girl with butterfly wings). I’ve never seen that shape so small. Very cool.

  27. Very nice ATCs! They look like you (the point, sort of!). I like that it MAKES me work within a given space. I’m more creative with forced limitations! These are lovely.
