You were all so thoughtful in cheering me up, thanks for your well wishes!
I am usually pretty upbeat, but I think I was suffering from vacation overload! I went from weeks of family and friends and travel to an abrupt stop and was feeling it. Isn’t that what makes blog friends so nice to have? They are always there to visit and company is only as far away as the keyboard.
Today’s sketches even went a bit better. Sometimes, sitting at my desk to work on my latest project can cure any worry or ill, but other days, it is just hopeless. And if it isn’t going well, I need to just walk away from the table and give it a break.
Yes, today was a good one, I was happy with the drawings, I heard from Fifi that the story Carol, Diane and I worked on turned out well and is set for the next issue of Romantic Country. Of course, she hadn’t given me any reason to think they wouldn’t use the article, but I am always reassured when the type is set and the magazine is final. Things get shuffled sometimes and it is good to know this didn’t.
Then, I heard from Jo Pakham that she could be interested in my studio for "Where Women Create". Of course, nothing is settled, it was only an inquiry, but I was flattered to be asked. I’ve heard a lot of positive buzz about this new publication, and I am honored to be considered.
I’ll spend part of next week taking a shovel to the room to make way for some sample photos!
I also kept to my deal with myself and listed more on Etsy today, another altered fairy and some flocked paper packs.
As if today wasn’t already a nice day, look what I found when I went out to do some yard work-
Surprise lillies everywhere! I adore these pink blooms that pop up over night sometime mid-August.
The fragrance outside my studio door caught my attention before I even saw the flowers. I picked an armful to bring in and scent my home too.
But there is more- Sugarwing’s Daddy came by to visit, just to hang out and talk. As close as we are, that just doesn’t happen as often as it used to, grown sons hanging out, one on one, just for the fun of it, is a rare treasure!
I’m so glad that you are feeling better than before!
So glad today was a better one! The sketches look great, you really got that little sugarwings in the one where she is looking down!
I’ve been sketching my Cairn today, such similar dogs. I’m working on a new Oz painting. Love your garden-beautiful Karla.
Hugs,
Pam
Beautiful drawings! Pretty pink lilies! (Are those called “Naked Ladies”?) You’ve got lots going on, for sure! How exciting! Your little vintage supplies package is in the mail!
*Heidi*
Remember Karla, time spent in the garden is never wasted and is bound to cheer you up.
Happy days sweets,
Kerryanne
How nice that you had a wonderful day! Don’t forget that you can celebrate Sugarwings’s Birthday for the whole month, so give yourself some time to get her scrapbook the way you want it.

Oh Karla, I am so glad you were feeling better today! The drawings look beautiful! It is such a sad let down when things we are looking forward to come to an end 🙁 I feel that way about the vacation I just got back from. I posted pix today.
Congratualtions on the publications! That is wonderful and I look so forward to reading them!
Sending big hugs,
Amy
It’s good to hear that I’m not wasting my time behind the computer as some people are trying to tell me again and again! ;-D
I like these drawings better too. I’ll try to buy the next issue of Romantic Homes! Have a good day!
I had to laugh at the post by Kerryanne. When I lived in Raytown, MO my neighbor told me a story about Surprise Lilies. She also called them Naked Ladies. When she was first married she was riding in the car with her husband and it was late summer. They rounded a curve and she saw MASSSES of Surprise Lilies. She shrieked, “Oh Larry! Just LOOK at all of the beautiful Naked Ladies!!” Well, needless to say, Larry just about wrecked the car, and she had some ‘splainin’ to do!! I think of her every summer when I see or hear about Surprise Lilies. I just love those flowers! So glad you are feeling chipper again! – Kathy
Karla, i am sorry to hear that you were not feeling well, hope all is well with you now…your sketches look very sweet!!! best of luck on getting in that book, how exciting!!!
My mom always called surprise lillys “Naked Ladies”!! They are pretty! More great sketches soon to be turned into paintings for Sugarwings book!!
I can’t wait for the next issue of Romantic Homes, I am so glad I have a subscription now, so I don’t have to run around town trying to find one!!

That post by Kathy was hilarious. I needed a good laugh.
Glad you are better Karla. Congrats on your Studio being considered. I too am getting shovel to my Craft room. Mine will have to be a big snow shovel type. Mine is a mess.It has pile-I-tis.lol
An unexpected visit is always good. Especially from one of our children.
“Consider how the lilies grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was not dressed like one of these.” (Luke 12:27) Just thought that verse fit today. Blessings… Polly
Karla,
Your lilies are beautiful and I’m glad you are feeling better.
It always does me good to have one of my sweet sons stop by just to spend a few minutes with me. I know it must be the same for you.

I’m so happy you feel better. We all get in those moods but thankfully they go away.
Your book is going to be so cute! I love your drawings and paintings. What a treasure to have too. Just think of it being handed down for years to come. Who sweet.
Hugs,
Joanne
Karla, how exciting that they are considering your workspace. You are an inspiration to all of us.
Your new drawings look fabulous.
Karla… sending one HUGE hug to you!!! I’ve missed you! The bad side of summers is that I lose touch with people because I’m always running and not sitting and reading blogs! When I pulled up this post, I was SO impressed with your drawings! You have the hand of a professional illustrator! Do you know that?!! I’ve been working on a book cover and the author just told me she’d rather have photography than one of my illustrations. great. So now it’s just a design on my part. I have been feeling kind of lonely lately… for my blogging friends. There’s just something about the encouragement that keeps me happy. Your flowers are just gorgeous too! I need some of those bulbs. Everything is fading right now and nothing is just popping up like your lillies! Enjoy them… they are “Karla Lillies” for sure!
Thank you for the sweet comment about my daughter.
Your sketchings are beautiful…I love them. I’m glad you are having a better day.
It is so exciting that your studio is being considered, and what beautiful surprise lilies!!!
I am glad your day was better and you are feeling better…..Mary
Karla I again want to thank you for my “July” present. Love it!
Your sketches are adorable as usual.I love lilies of any kind. They knew just when to come up for you to enjoy. You definitely inspire me to be more productive. Have a wonderful and productive day.

the drawings are so pretty! Love the way you capture that adorable little face!
Know what you mean about the rare one on one times with the son after he’s grown. I miss them so much with mine, and treasure them when I get them!! My daughter works with me, so we see each other and talk everyday and are so close! But it’s different with sons!:(
Thanks so much for visiting my blog…otherwise, I would have never found your gorgeous blog. What beautiful sketches and I’m so happy to hear that you’ll be featured in the upcoming Romantic mag…I’ll be sure to check that out.
Have a wonderful day…Andrea
For every bad day there are always more good ones right around the corner!
Karla
Well, of course I am reading posts backwards, starting from the top. So, I didnt know you were grumpy (yet) but boy, this sounds like a very ungrumpy day, so I’m glad you are much better! I love those studio mags — It would be terrific to see you featured there!
I have Jo Packham’s book. LOVE it! I’ve heard about this publication, and it is so exciting. And I’m so excited for you! Good to hear a blogging friend get such wonderful news!
Brenda
glad it’s a better day! Looking forward to your new articles. Your flowers are gorgeous I just love the surprise of lillies!
I am in awe of your sketches and every single product of your creative mind. We are our own worst critics to say the least. Girl, frankly, you rock!
Now, on to selfish things. Do you know the “scientific name” for the surprise lilies? My brother used to grow them before he died and was forever trying to get me to try a few in my garden. I have tried a search a few times and haven’t had any luck finding any. They are simply beautiful.
Thanks for stopping by my page, I cant wait to see what gorgeous wand i end up with… i have really been enjoying the process of making one for my partner. Your blog is gorgeous ( i have already spent over an hour reading and looking) its a feast for the eyes.
