This season, I wanted my dining room to be extra festive.

Using what was already on the buffet, I spruced up the display by adding lots of bright and shiny holiday trinkets, a string of white lights, and slapped some wings on the ladies.

IMG_7135
Normally, I'm a fairy wing fan, but for Christmas, I went with white feathered angel wings.

I wish I had a large pair for myself, but I'm afraid they'd burst into flames if I wore them.

This lady's dish became a nest of shiny brites with some shredded tissue and a pile of balls.

IMG_7140
Grandma's tinsel tree got planted in a wine bucket that I'd had a glittered pumpkin in all fall.

Instead of a star on the top, I hung a strand of pearls.

All of these basics were there already too. I added the lights, branches, beads, and ornaments to the existing display. (Yes, I'm gaudy all year round, but at the holidays, I really flaunt it!)

As much as I love white, silver, and gold, I still need flashes of color. With all the rose pattern and blue bird dishes in the corner cabinet, I thought some pastel ornaments would look pretty up above.

And how could I not set out all of these, just because they weren't neutral colors?

IMG_7165
There are too many things that I have and love that I want to set out and enjoy!

No matter how hard I try, I can't restrain myself. I tried to edit, and keep things simple, and on some levels I am much more streamlined than in the past.  I have clusters of decor here and there around the house, not in every single spot.

Also, since I did about 90% of all the decorating one night while Sugarwings slept so I could surprise her in the morning, I had to cut back a bit. I wanted it to be over and done with after that one all nighter.

She and I did a few little projects together, and she has her very own tree to mess around with as much as she wants, so the decorating continues daily.  I added these vintage balls to my chandelier on another day too.

Maybe next year my decor can be even more simplified and I can squeeze ALL of it into one night of frenzied foofing.

  1. Like a dream.Love the feather wings..Our neighbors put their tree up in front of the window and I thought of you when I saw it..A huge silver tinsel tree with old glass balls.Hope you are enjoying your trip.Warm Blessings!~Amy

  2. All I can say is your all nighter looks like magical elves swooped in and left behind some stunning displays! I hope you are enjoying your time away. Travel safe!

  3. I LOVE the pearls at the top of that tiny tree! I just did a similar table top tree yesterday, only instead of ornaments I used pretties from my box of vintage rhinestone jewelry. Hubby bemused, and daughter trying to dip into the box to find a few things for herself.

  4. Breathtaking Karla!!! Absolutely breathtaking! I love the girl statues with their wings and crowns. I know pictures just don’t do it justice!
Im with you…I love color and you can’t resist displaying the other magical pieces in your home. Christmas is too hard to do less is more. I say bring it on…more the merrier!!! 😉 XOXO,Jenn

  5. When you got it…flaunt it! Have I mentioned “gaudy” is one of my favorite colors in the Crayola box? Yeah…it’s right up there with shiny and lame`!

  6. So so pretty! I love all the tone on tone! You amaze me, you never fail to create new vignettes that are so over the top beautiful!!! Love it! It inspires me to do more decorating this morn!

  7. I think it is cute how you plan to decorate all at once, but the reality is that you are always decorating, always adjusting, and always having fun with your pretties. ;->

  8. Karla, so glad you like to flaunt your gaudy during the holidays. These photos are gorgeous! Especially fond of the bubbly looking addition to your chandelier! Thanks so much for sharing. Happy holidays and congratulations on the arrival of your newest wee fairy granddaughter. ~ Angela

  9. just gorgeous. You inspired me. I loved your silver tinsel tree in front of the mirror so much last year, that I wanted to do the same in my dining room. Couldn’t find anything suitably vintage style, so I made my own! I thought about how to do it from about March onwards, and finally set to work in November.
A few cut up coathangers, bamboo garden canes, hot glue and a lot of tinsel later, I’d made not one, but two trees in the vintage style. And it’s all thanks to you :o)

Now I’m off to hang baubles from the small chandelier in the dining room! ;o) You inspire me so much! xxxx

  10. Your diningroom looks so wonderful and dreamy. I have been sitting here drooling over it all. I just love the wings, I want some of them too! LOL! And just when I thought I was done!
The vintage balls hanging from the chandelier is the piece de la resistance! Love it.

  11. Karla your home looks amazing! I’ve done no decorating except for the tree! I’m in a race against time I guess!
I’m sorry I missed you while you were here in virginia! I hope you can come back soon!

  12. Hi Karla,
I love the Shiny Brite!!!! Beautiful as always.
I hope you had a wonderful time while you were away.
    Hugs,

  13. That is one of the most beautiful Christmas chandeliers I’ve seen in years. We kinda arranged ours on Christmas Eve last year with some golden balls, too. Twin Cities was field with lots of lights, I’m tellin’ ya. The electric guy helped us with the wiring and it turned out really great.
