Nest banners

This was a nesting weekend for me. My husband is out of town, Sugarwings is with parents, nothing was on TV that I wanted to see, and I had nothing but studio time! (but I have to confess I couldn't go the whole weekend without snuggles, I had to sneek over to my son's house to hold the baby Sis-star for a while)

So, I made up two more banners for my Bird Song event this spring.

My plan for the class is to provide a packet of supplies, and patterns and ideas.  Plus instructions for the different ideas, of course.

I want everyone to have choices for their project.  I'll have lots of examples made up and plenty of pretty papers to work with.

IMG_8873 It will be such fun to see what everyone comes up with. One of my favorite things to do when I attend a class is to walk around the room and see all the ways one single project can turn out.

With this one, the variations will be countless!  I can't wait to see what our 20 students make.

Thanks for your patience in waiting for me to get the ball rolling on this class.  Sign ups are SOON.

Thanks also for your kind words about my worries for Sugarwings. I appreciate all the private emails and messages about your own kids.  We always hurt more for our little ones than for ourselves, don't we?

IMG_8881 After making up all the banner bits, I got busy typing up instructions and drawing the patterns.  I hope I don't get a stiff neck from patting myself on the back too much, but I just have to brag about how early I am getting this done.

I've got all the stacks of vintage paper, wallpaper, tags, chip board, millinery flowers, turquoise bird egg beads, moss, and tons of other goodies laid out on my table ready to make up the kits.

MONTHS ahead of time!!!!!!!!!!!  Yep, there is lots of back patting going on around here.

Not only that, but I did a quickie, little painting for the Moulin Rouge event I am attending in March too. Here is a corner of it.

I'm so proud of myself that I am taking the night off now, to go sit in front of the TV with a good movie and a plate of rotisserie chicken from the grocery store.  There is nothing like vegging out in front of the TV with food I didn't have to cook, after a couple of days of hard work.

  2. And you SHOULD be proud of yourself! That’s really impressive. Months ahead of time. What a concept! I have actually heard of it, but haven’t a clue how it works. LOL That looks like it’s going to be a fun class.

  3. The class projects look wonderful! How great that you are getting so much planning done in advance, you will so be able to enjoy the event if you don’t have to stress last minute. Enjoy your time off, you earned it.

  4. I love the way that you’ve used the branches Karla, and think this idea is one that can be interpreted for every season. It’s truly lovely, and inspiring.
Yay for you, working it all out ahead of time. That will make for a much more relaxed hostess when the event rolls around, and your visitors will appreciate that.

  5. Oh my gosh Karla the banners are so stinkin’ cute!! You always do such an amazing job!
I have to tell you had a tear in my eye about your post on your grand daughter. Oh Karla! I had no idea she struggled. I don’t even know her and I feel like I do from all your posts. She without a doubt has a very special gramma and that puts her ahead of the curve:) She’ll know that! I have no doubt at all!! I hope her extended family really takes the time to see that she is nurtured and challenged thru her younger years so she can thrive when she gets older not just survive. I will keep her in my thoughts:)

  6. Hey! I just finished Rotisserie Chicken and box o’stuffing mix. Well, I didn’t eat the entire box or the entire chicken. Good stuff. Quick and easy. And you know what? You should pat yourself on the back. Nuthin’ wrong with that. We’re bracing for the end o’ life as we know it storm in the next few days. The grocery store was crazy. I almost had to beat someone up for the last chicken!! (kidding. But it was the last chicken) – Cheers and stay warm. Kathy

  7. Karla,
Whaddya mean you couldn’t find anything on TV? It does kind of suck to be without Glee, just a few more days!!! My latest obsession is Heavy on A&E. OMG, it’s keeping me from my Ben & Jerry’s! Love the banners, I think they are perfect & beautiful for Bird-songs! I signed up for the yahoo page but I have a confession. I have NO idea how to use it, is there a tutorial lurking around Karla’s Cottage? Lisa

  8. I love your “Nest” project! It is simply adorable. Your students will be so proud of their own versions, Im sure. I’m stocking up on hot glue sticks and other basics, planning to be snowed in for two days or so. Lots of crafting to be done around here too…..

  9. Hi Karla 🙂 Oh my gosh- I love all your banners!!! I wish I could take your class with you!! Oh no… I just read your message about Sugarwings… I’m praying hard for you and your family and especially her!!! *Hugs*

  10. Everything is soo beautiful. It is good to have some time all by yourself! I love that little glimpse of your Moulin Rouge painting, hoping to see more of it. Hugs /Therese

  11. Oh, Karla, I think I like these maybe most of anything I’ve seen you do. They are sweet but not cloying, pretty but so natural. Lovely.
I’ve been blog absent for a bit — not sure what’s up with Sugarwings, but glad it appears to be OK.
