April Showers and a May Flower Giveaway

Ironed paper 019

Yesterday, Beth and I headed to Sparks and White Cloud to the flea market we never miss twice a year.  There have been times when it has been chilly, other times when we feel like we have heat stroke.  We've gone when it was drizzling a bit too.

But yesterday, when we left, the forecast was for a 60% possibility of thunderstorms all day and it was raining so hard I could barely see the road.

And I kept driving anyway.  And I decided I will never again tease my husband when he gets all bundled up to go to an outdoor sporting event in blizzardy weather. I had always thought he was crazy.  But now, I get it.  The pluses out weigh the minuses, and it was worth it to me to brave the weather, just in case there was a break in it and we could do some fun shopping.

Luckily, the weather cleared! We had some minor drizzle here and there, and our shoes were muddy from walking in the fields, but the day was GREAT.  We always have a blast there, and say that it isn't just shopping, it is an event. So we figured it  was worth the risk of getting a little wet.

And if the only thing I bought all day was these posies, it would have been worth getting really muddy.  (but of course I bought more. Much more.)

These were marked $4 each.  I asked (very nicely) how much it would be if I bought all of them, and was thrilled to hear that they could go for 50 cents each if I bought the bowlful. I always say, it never hurts to ask.

Since, I was at Sparks all day yesterday, I wasn't able to list more wallpaper yet. I did add a few packs to my Boutique the night before and many have already sold out.   Today, I had Sugarwings to keep me busy, and tomorrow I am helping at a fund raising garage sale for some friends.  I hope to add more packs and will let you know when I do.

Isn't this vintage greeting card beautiful?  It is actually on a flocked paper background! I had 3 of them, one I kept for myself and two I made up wallpaper packs to coordinate with.

Well, that garage sale is going to come pretty early tomorrow, I'd better get to bed, now that I finally have Sugarwings tucked in. She is at a stage when she thinks she'd rather stay up and play, not go to bed, and sees no reason why she shouldn't just do what ever she wants.  So, tucking in has become a marathon event around here.

  1. Oh my goodness Karla! I’ve missed so many posts. I’ve been drooling over that wallpaper and your studio and all of the wonderful treasures you’ve found lately!!
Happy, happy birthday in case I don’t make it back here by the 5th!!

  2. What fun! I thought of you while I was painting my kitchen table and chairs. It took me forever, and it seems like you paint yours so quickly!

  3. I went to Sparks today and I had a blast. Only it was chilly and silly me thought I would be warm enough. I got some great stuff and then of course had to hit up Jesse James in St. Jo for more great stuff! Happy early birthday! Or as my dad would say Hippo Birdie to Ewe! (Happy Birthday to You)

  4. I’d have bought the bowl full of posies too! Karla, I went back and was reading all your studio make-over posts – it is an incredible beautiful space! Would love to visit it in person someday! eek!

  7. Well worth travelling in that awful weather.
Don’t you just love it when the little ones think they can do what they want!!LOL
Probably because usually we are a little easier on the grandchildren than we were on our own children.

  11. I live in Chicago and when I go to a Bears game, I wear all the winter clothing I can. It gets so cold sitting and watching a game for 3 hours in minus temperatures. I just wish my girl friend would bundle up too so I wouldn’t have to keep giving her my warm items at the game.

  12. Hi Karla, Love the shots from the sale and you really did well with the posies. I absolutely love flea markets and tomorrow we are heading out to one of the best in our area. With luck I will find some treasures.
    Hugs karen

  21. Happy Birthday Karla!! We went to garage sales here on SR38 from Noblesville, thro Pendleton to New Castle. Your sopposed to start in Pendleton [they are the sponser] and go either direction, but we start and one end and go to another……fun!!!!!
Sounds like your adventure was just as fun!!!!

  22. HAPPY BIRTHDAY KARLA!!!! I hope you have a beautiufl day 🙂 You deserve it!

  23. I went to the first Paris flea market today but it was cold and I of course wasn’t dressed warm enough. It didn’t rain until I got home which was a good thing. I’m glad you had fun.

  24. Congratulations to Marilyn!!!
Looks like there were lots of goodies to be found at the sale. So glad you girls had a good time…rain or shine!
And I’ve just got to ask…any yellow roses in the wallpaper packs?

  25. lol sometimes it’s a little funny when we realize that a thing where we can’t understand why others would do – we end up doing 🙂
I guess the rain was worth it. See, you got all those pretty flowers and what a price! You must have a real big smile in your face that day.
Good luck in the garage sale. I’m sure you and your friends will have fun.

  26. It’s almost here, Karla!! I thought of you yesterday when my friend and I went to Wimberley for the monthly market days. Lots of good stuff, not enough money or place to put it if I bought it home.
Remember a few posts ago when I told you about my hot water heater and you said they come in 2’s. Well, today I cracked one of my teeth so I think that will qualify for the second one! Now the pox is gone. Seriously, I wish you the happiest of birthdays. Hope your year is just as fabulous as you are.

  27. Karla, My hubby, John and I truly understand dedication to going to a great flea market or yard sales regardless of the weather. We tell ourselves it won’t be as crowded due to bad weather and we will get better buys. Sometimes yes and sometimes no, but we love the thrill of the hunt anyway. Have a wonderful day.

  28. wow! .50 a peice for the flowers, that was definately worth driving in the rain for! Sounds like a fun filled day!
    Happy Birthday!!

  29. It seemsd like just yesterday you turned 50. That was a fast year indeed. The older we get the faster goes the time.
