Around the cottage

Pages 009

Summer ends too quickly for me.  Especially this year, we have had fall like temps that make me believe that summer has really ended, not just that school starts way too early.

On Sugarwing's first day of second grade, we could see our breath, it was so chilly! That is NOT typical Kansas weather in mid August.   Usually we are cursing the cracked, dry, brown earth that is baking in the heat.

Now, I'm not complaining about not feeling like I live in a smelting pot, I just am discombobulated by the freaky weather and am going to start thinking about pumpkin pie before it is even time to harvest our tomatoes.

We have made use of this untypical August cool air by taking lots of bike rides and hitting the walking trails.  During one walk, we paused for a selfie, and snapped it just in time to catch Twinkle in the act of side swiping Sugarwings and I both with her tongue.

Besides working on Nature's Blessing journal covers, I've not had much of a chance to get creative, instead, I've been hanging with the grand fairies and working in the yard.  All the work that normally gets put off til cooler, fall weather has been tempting me to be out doors, doing it now instead.

Then, wiped with a paper towel. I plan on sanding it for a distressed look, then popping in a pretty picture of a grand fairy.

  1. Lucky you getting cooler than normal temps! We are still melting in the sweltering heat here in N. Texas!
Official fall is only about a month away. It is my favorite season, and I am already immersed in some creative Christmas projects. I am trying to get a head start.
I hope Sugarwings has a wonderful second grade year. Such a cute photo of you and her as Twinkle shares some doggie love with her tongue.
That frame is gorgeous! It will be beautiful with a grandfairy’s photo in it.

  2. I can’t believe she’s already in 2nd grade — gah! I felt fall in the air the other morning, too. Way too soon after the LONG winter we had this year…but, I do love the fall!
