Artist Class Project

Paper dolls 018

My project for Mary's

online tutorials, featuring 12 projects, daily posted tips and tricks, called Artist Class

is done and ready to go!

I've made a paper doll, and include scanned ephemera, patterns for a sun dress, a school dress with apron, and a party frock with tips and instructions for making the garments.

Its a good feeling to have the Artist Class project done and ready to roll. I enjoyed the little break from my Sliver Bella and Miss Frenchie prepping to play with paper dolls.

But now, back to work, I've been tagging the earrings I made last week and hanging them in this old trunk.

If all goes as planned,  these teeny clothespins will hold the earring cards on the wire. So that when I get to the show, all I have to do, is open the trunk and set it on the table.  Of course, there is always the huge possibility of all of the earrings being strewn from one end of the truck to the other  and jumbled up when I open it.  I'll have my fingers crossed.

It hasn't been all work around here.  I hit a gold mine of a garage sale this weekend and found my hat whispering skills in full force. In such fine shape that I got a head vase wearing a hat and a cool old picture of a lady in a hat too.

Over at Nice and Easy Antiques

There is a Junking Monday show and tell, that I thought I'd join, since I had a great haul over the weekend!  Check it out for more great finds in blogland.

How wonderful are these??????

I am always ruthless about ripping the flowers off and gluing them to anything I can get my hands on, but I'm wavering on these beauties.

Its like a whole English country garden on one head.

I found a giant scrapbook of vintage holiday cards, some are pretty pastels, but most feature lots of red and green. I plan on taking this to Silver Bella and selling the pages full of cards individually. People can look through the book and tear out the pages that interest them.

Speaking of hats, isn't this sweet? If you'd like to save and print it to use in your own projects, please feel free.  I'd love to see what you make with her.

This old ring binder was from a garage sale too. I couldn't wait to start gaudy-ing it up.  The gaudier the better, of course!

  1. OMG!! Your earings in that suitcase look so beautiful! And I love the goodies you just found especiall the head vase and thank yu for letting us share in that cute face with pointsettas in the head!! Wow. Thank you for sharing Grace

  2. Cool trunk full of earrings! To keep your earrings in good shape for the trip, if you have any sheets of bubble wrap, layer some behind and between all layers in the trunk.
I always keep my recycled bubble wrap in a huge box out in the barn- it comes in handy whenever anyone moves, too!

  3. Karla, my hat finding days are over again…i think all the hats are in kansas now…most of them living at your house from what i can see…i LOVE that little pink lined suitcase…that is just SO cute!!! your paper doll is really sweet!!!
i would leave the big hat all smothered in flowers alone…that is just too fabulous to rip up…seriously!!!

  4. The suitcase with the earrings is just darling!! I’d love to be going to Silver Bella to see all of your goodies. Instead, I’ll humor myself with Mary’s class. You really did clean-up on the sales this weekend!! – Kathy in Chicago

  5. Oh Karla, please don’t rip up that big hat full of flowers…it’s fabulous!
I collect old hats ’cause they remind me of my grandmother… because of that, I have an aversion to deflowering them. But because of your evil influence *grins*, I bought 2 hats yesterday & I’m gonna rip all the flowers off to use in projects. It’ll sting a little but I’m gonna do it.
Your paperdoll is too cute! And that scrapbook of vintage cards was a great find!

  6. Those are the best hats ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We understand that you feel bad about ripping the flowers off!! We also love your earrings and hope that they will stay as intended! Thank you so much for playing today!

  9. OMG, Imagine my surprize when I spied the girl with black hat flower vase in your piece of luggage. I have the very same gal [sans lashes and bow] right next to my laptop.
Just found your blog three minutes ago.

  10. Thanks for sharing your fun break time with the paper doll. It’s almost as cute a doll as you are.
Mental fingers crossed here too that your earrings arrive in order and ready to go! The scrapbook of cards was a great find for the event, too.
If you keep those millinery hats in tack, I want to see picture(s) of you posing in it/them! Heh, there’s an idea: You can wear the hats and sell the flowers off of them. Just like the scrapbook, when someone wants to buy one you just rip it off. ;->

  11. You do such beautiful work ! I wished I lived closer and could take one of your classes. You also found some awesome stuff !
Isn’t it great???… Thrifting is the only way to shop!

  12. Karla,
Love your artist class project! I’ll have to make this one for the new grandgirl and put up until she is old enough to not chew it.
Love the earring display too. Fingers crossed that it arrives at its destination in tact.

  13. I like your works, they are very impressive! I see you got a wonderful collection of earrings. That’s fantastic, it is much more then my home collection. I think you make very nice art, continue, you are very talented.
