Attack of the Seven Pound Monster

Fairywds_066 The house seems pretty quiet now that I have taken my childhood friends to the airport and their visit for our Fabulous Fifty Birthday Celebration has ended.

We had a lively week full of tiaras and champagne!Fairywds_072

Because a good bottle of champagne can make any occasion special, even if it is just a dinner of egg salad.

Fairywds_103 It was a week of simple pleasures, like just sitting on the porch and talking.Fairywds_060

Of course, we couldn’t leave the Dorkies out of the party.Fairywds_077

Twinks just isn’t the type to let herself be left out of anything. Even though Sandy wasn’t exactly a dog person.

Twinkle couldn’t get it through her fuzzy little head that Sandy wasn’t crazy about her and she wouldn’t leave the poor woman alone all week.Fairywds_073

But the dorkies got plenty of attention and even got to model some of the tiaras themselves.Fairywds_053

We also did a bit of shopping downtown Lawrence.  No luck on finding a prom dress to fit.

My pals aren’t the vintage type, but they were good sports about poking around the old dresses and helping me in and out of the ones I got stuck in.

It wasn’t the first or the last sticky situation these two have helped me with over the last 40 years.

Fairywds_107 After saying goodbye to my dearest friends, I came home to finish the scrapbook of Sugarwing’s second year.  Her Hippy Chick Mommy’s birthday is this week and I wanted to give her a completed album of her baby’s adventures.Fairywds_111

On Friday, 8-8-08, there is a big birthday party for all of the August babies.  Sugarwings and her Hippy Chick Mommy are both Leos, as well as a few of their friends, so they are having a blow out party to celebrate.

I’ll be packing up my face paints and glitter and going off to join the kids tomorrow.

But the best part is, that Sugarwings and I will be leaving early and she will be staying all night with me.  Now, that is something to look forward to, and to keep me from being too down about my child hood friends leaving today!

  3. Oh you do look like you had a wonderful time and you are still planning more parties…do your batteries every run down!! What an energetic amazing woman you are, I am tired just reading about all you do and now guilty that I have so many unfinished things, so I should end here, say ‘Happy Weekend’ and go and do something! 6. Dear Karla,
I just found your lovely blog when I was clicking links lists on some other blogs. It is so nice to have good friends and it looks like you all had a great time! My 25th class reunion is coming up and I’m looking forward to seeing some friends I haven’t seen in a while. Visit my blog sometime.

LOVE that scrapbook!!!!! It’s just beautiful, Karla. What a lovely summer you’ve had so far. It’s nice Sugarwings gets to sleep over after the guests have left. I just hate that “empty hole” feeling that is there after friends or family have gone. It always feels like it takes a few days to fill up again. Thanks for sharing my morning coffee! – Kathy

  8. From the looks of it, ya’ll had a grand time. All the smiling faces tell the story.
We have to lock our Jackie up sometimes when we have company. She just does not get the fact that not everyone loves her.lol
Love the scrapbook. And I know Sugarwing’s Momma will love it too. How is the book coming along?

  9. I totally agree with you ! Champagne is fine with everything, especially with friends ! You seem to have had a nice time !
Your dorkies are so sweet 🙂
Happy Birthday to your little sunshine !

  10. What a Happy, Happy Birthday celebration you and your friends had! Twinkle is just like my Maggie, always goes, and goes, and goes to the one that just doesn’t love doggies. Isn’t that always the way. Well, I thought the “babies” looked adorable, how could one not love them.
You have a great birthday celebration with your family tonight.
By the way, the perfect Prom dress is awaiting you just around the corner.

  11. Your “dorkie” in the middle photo looks just like my Abi, and the one on the left looks like Charlie Ross. Don’t you just love their little personalities? I’m so glad you got this time with your friends! And now with Sugarwings!

  12. I will keep my eyes posted for your prom dress! If I can’t go to Silver Bella, I can at least help you find a dress! I know how special those girls are to you…I have a BFF that I’ve known since I was three…there is nothing about me that she doesn’t know!

  13. A toast to good friends and good times.
You sure can’t be lonely with Sugarwings around. I love that picture of her looking at the frog. So cute!
My husband is a Leo. His birthday is, today, 8/8/08, which is the opening ceremonies of the Olympics, because 8 is considered a lucky number in China. The opening ceremonies start at 8 seconds after 8:00.
    Just a little trivia.

  14. Hello Beautiful Lady, I had to do alot of reading to catch up on your fabulous life until the Fabulous 50th party, looks like you have been one busy lady and that fun was had by all, as for the dresses I know I wouldnt be able to fit in those dresses as well as they are a made very tiny, maybe take the dress to the dress maker and add panels in under the arm to the waist area then it wouldn’t look so noticable, just a thought to help you out, the Prom is coming up quite fast. Birthday Wishes and kisses to you all x x x.
    Hugs
    Kirstie.

  15. Champagne is definitely one of the best vintage things around, isn’t it? Congratulations on still having as much sparkle on your 50th as the famous bubbly. As for prom dresses, in my case I think it will take several, pieced together, so I look like one person from the front, another from the side . . . never mind, I’ll just hide behind the vendor table. Happy Birthday!

  16. Oooh what a FUN little party you had with your girlfriends. So fun to reunite and spend quality time. I LOVE to celebrate with a good bottle of bubbly. 😉
Karla, SERIOUSLY loving the photo of you trying to fit into the prom dress! You crack me up!!!
Have a wonderful time at the birthday party and quality time with Miss Sugarwings.;) XO

  17. I am so glad you and your friends had such a wonderful time together. I had hoped to have some time with my best friend recently, but it didn’t work out.
I hope you and Sugarwings are having fun.

  18. Wow, isn’t it great to have friends to share good times with. Especially friends that arent’ uptight! My sister-in-law and I like to get together. I went to see “Mama Mia” with her on Tuesday. We then spent the afternoon shopping! I am anxious to get the soundtrack too! It was GREAT! I just found your site via Bird Nest Cottage.

  19. Hi Karla! How do I go about paying you for the cupcake painting??
    Thank you so much 🙂
I am glad you had such a wonderful time with your friends! I bet you and Sugarwings are having a fun time together this weekend!!
    Hugs,

Oh my goodness! I am so thrilled to have found your Cottage! I have a part time business doing little girls Fairy Parties, and while on a fairy search on the web, I came across your postings! I adore everything you do and find that you are so similar in your thinking to my Mom and me! Especially the sweet name you call your grandfairy,”Sugarwings”. My Mom-Mimi-and I call my daughter Rosebud(she’s 13 now and still loves it! even though her real name is Haley) We also had a litter of what we called-“Dorkies”- when I was growing up! I shared your site with my mom and she truly understands about how your grown-up friends “just don’t get it” regarding all of your treasures-her long time best friends are the same way!!But does it bother us?-no- we do what we love and love what we do and surround ourselves with the treasures that bring us joy!!! I look forward to seeing your completed book about Sugarwings and Twinkle-that is so wonderfully creative! Oh and by the way my 8 yr old “peke-a-weenie’s” name is Sparklefairy! She is peke and dachshund mix and has a tutu and fairy wings!
    God Bless! ~Cathline
