Autumn Gathering

Sbella_booth_142 Today there is an autumn gathering at Artsy Mama’s, and even though I don’t do much in the way of fall decor, I had to participate, just because Kari throws such fun parties!

Sbella_booth_130 To battle the fall chills, I trade out my summer curtains for some heavier wwight, velvet ones, and bring out a warm quilt.

The crazy quilt thrown over the arm of the sofa was made by my mom, so I get a double dose of warmth from it, one from the actual quilt and the other from warm memories of my mom’s hugs.

(That small chest being used for a coffee table is full of Sugarwing’s toys.  I guess I should cover the inside of the wire screen, the toys are peeking through!)Sbella_booth_141

One of my favorite garage sale finds this year is the vintage, framed white witch  for $2.  She is set out on the table for Halloween, but I might just keep her around a while.Sbella_booth_162

Since I am trying to get ready for Silver Bella, I have skipped over fall pretty much. Last year, I was participating in a Christmas Home Tour and that kept me hopping, so autumn was over looked then too.  Maybe next year, I can go whole hog, but for now, I will just enjoy all the elaborate displays I see in blogland.  Sbella_booth_149

Remember when I said I was all done making jewelry for the year and put all the supplies away? hmmm, my crafting whims don’t seem to follow the schedules I set for myself.  I ended up painting these charms yesterday, so that means, the crystals, jump rings and tools need to come back out again! Sbella_booth_155_2

Yesterday was also "Fun with Buttons Day" here in my studio.  I painted a few to see how that went, and  I think that they did fine. I lightly sanded some Mother Of Pearl buttons before painting them, then topped them off with paper glaze.Sbella_booth_165

Other buttons were turned into magnets.Sbella_booth_163

This ceiling tin message board was featured in Somerset Life, I am taking it to Silver Bella, and added some more magnets to it to sell.

They range from $1.50- $4 and as I was pricing the button magnets, and some other $2 and $3 items, I was wondering to myself just how much crap I had to sell to make this show worth doing if I was selling so much of the inventory at such low prices??? Oh well, it is the thrill of making it and the fun of setting up and talking with everyone as they look through it all that makes it all worth doing.Sbella_booth_164

Here is a magnet that isn’t a button, it is a vintage box that I had some beads in. Won’t it be cute on someone’s fridge with a surprise tucked in it?  I glued two magnets to the back of it, so it would be sturdy enough to use.Sbella_booth_158

While I was gluing away, I replaced some missing rhinestones on the lid of this old pill box.Sbella_booth_160

And of course, that wasn’t enough! I lined it with flocked wallpaper and fitted the inside with a crown.

The sweet little birdy in the martini glass got a crown too.  Hers is one of the gutter screen crowns I made from Carol’s design for the Romantic Country article we did together.Sbella_booth_143

Yum, this says fall to me!  We brought in green tomatoes from the garden to finish ripening and so far, they are turning as we had hoped!

Sorry I didn’t have much more in the way of Harvest decor to show you, but I can promise tons of it if you go visit Kari and follow her links to parties across blog land!Fall_button_kh2_small_2

If you are here for the party and are new to my blog, please check the previous post for details about my giveaway. I have presents to give out and all you need to do is leave a comment on any post to enter.

ps- thanks to everyone who commiserated with me about my poor nose. It doesn’t seem broken, just slightly green and lumpy today and feels much better!

  1. Such a pretty living room. I love fried green tomatoes so mine rarely get red. I yank ’em first. That grandfairy of yours is the spitting image of her mother. WOW! It’s like a then and now photo.
    Hugs,
    Pam

  2. I love your decor Karla , it is warm and inviting. The jewellery you make is gorgeous. I’m glad your nose is not broken , bruising can be sore though. Donna

  3. I’m a big fan of white pumpkins. I thought about doing a “white Halloween” theme but the idea came much too late for this year. Maybe next year.
If you have a moment, swing by my harvest gathering. Don’t forget to bring your pumpkin!

  4. The painted buttons are so lovely! Are you selling those at Silver Bella as well? It is good to know you don’t have a broken nose! 22 more days to go!!!

  5. oh, those crafting whims – they can totally demolish the list of “what I want to accomplish today.”
Glad to hear that your nose is getting better. Noses are so sensitive!

  6. I am glad your nose is getting better (what no followup pictures of the green nose?!)
I adore the painted buttons, you have to do more! And the table filled with Sugarwings toys, just looks like a colorful collage from my perspective! I would never have known where the color came from if you hadn’t told us!

  7. Karla, I really like this post. I am drawn to that gorgeous living room with all the textures and colors of white and beige. It looks like the pumpkin glitters, love that. Great jewels as always. I also like how you manage to throw functions in with glam (toy chest). You are so darn good. Thanks for all the inspiration.

  8. Beautiful creations, I love the nest charm in the silver frame. You are so creative! Love the decorating for sure, never would have noticed the toys showing either.

  9. I like the white pumpkins the best too, and don’t do a lot for fall. I think those $2 & $3 sales will amount to a LOT–at least based on the few things I’ve seen on your blog here. I know I’d be dropping some $$ on them.

  10. Your home is just so lovely and inviting. The garage sale find: the white witch is one of my favorite pieces. You have been so busy with Silverbella pieces. I just can’t wait to meet you. Kara

  11. Green and lumpy…hmmmm…have you considered being the wicked witch of the west for halloween? Only teasing! Loved your post! karen…..

  12. I guess you can look at it this way.
You can produce a lot and sell it for less, or make a few things and sell them for more.
Since you work fast and enjoy making lots of things, it’s probably better to charge less and let it go out into the world for others to enjoy. And, you gotta make room for new ideas.

  13. Oh Lordy, Those tomatoes are beautiful. And your nose looks cute too. I planted one tomatoe plant this year and then never gave it much love. In turn it never gave me many tomatoes. That’s what I get.

  14. I am glad your nose is feeling better – that looks like a definite ouch!
What a great tomato harvest. Mmmm you can do fried green tomatoes and you got lots of red ones to eat.
And I did not know about the Autumn Artsy Mama blog party but I do know if people just scroll down a bit they will find the those great pictures of your loved ones in the pumpkin patch – what fun and so cute!

  15. I love your garage sale find of the witch photo…..how fun! It’s great when you can find something like that and so inexpensive! Your magnets for Silver Bella look wonderful and I’m sure you will have a fabulous time……I’m hoping to make it one of these days.

  17. Hi Karla
You always have the most interesting things on your blog. I love the white pumpkin arrangement. I am having a giveaway. Hope you can stop by.

  18. Everything is just GORGEOUS! I nominated you for an award on my blog. I know you’re super busy.. so dont feel obligated to play along..but wanted you to know how much I enjoy your blog!

Karla – Everything you’ve added to your already fabulous items for Silver Bella are great. I think you’ll find you sell more than you’d imagine, as its all so pretty, each given such love & special touch you stow upon everything you design, and it will be too hard to pass up. Your house looks great, and don’t worry about the Fall deal, as you’ve got plenty on your plate and have your priorites where they should be, with Sugar Wings and Silver Bella show.
Your home decor is great too. I have several of the exact plates you have displayed on your end table. Fun! They just have such a wonderful vintage feel to them. Your white witch looks cool too, even though I’m not into witches, this white witch looks great and harmless. Ha!
Hope your nose color will be back to normal and bumps will soon be gone. That must of been quite painful.
    Have a great week-end.
    Gretchen
