Away we go

Mary's cards

Have you tried these Logomachy (don't ask me how to pronounce that one) cards from Mary yet?  I am enamored with them!  For only 6 bucks, you can download a set for yourself.  I've used them for so many things now, they are fun to play with. I especially like to make these logos, or to print the cards to make personalized tags.

And I think it is nice the that K for Karla says "prize" on it.

Speaking of prizes…. I made up this package to send to my pal, Kim.  She is hosting another one of her art gatherings and I am providing a drawing prize for it.

SOMEDAY, I will get out there and go to one of her over-the-top-fabulous-wonderful-arty-beautiful events. Someday…

In the meantime, though, it seems like I've had one trip after another all year. So, I just couldn't fit one more in and still stay sane.

As a matter of fact, I am flying away tomorrow.  I am going with my husband on a business trip to Nag's Head.  We plan on celebrating our 24th wedding anniversary on the beach.  While in that part of the country, we are going to a wedding in Charlotte, then flying home just in time to celebrate Sugarwing's third birthday.

Does anyone have any advice about dining or shopping in either area?  I'll have a whole day in Charlotte and would love to find some shops.  I've never been to that part of the country before, so any tips would be appreciated!

We are bringing my sweet little mother-in-law home with us, and will have my husband's sister and her husband here for a couple days too.  As soon as they leave, I am flying off to Indiana for my sister, Bobbie Sue's big 60th birthday bash, coming home just in time to catch up for a few days, then going to the annual flea market in Sparks and White Cloud with Beth.

Then, my other sister's family will be coming to stay for Labor Day weekend to go to the Renfest with us.   I think we'll have about 20 house guests…. But they are bringing tents and camping out!! How fun is that? I might just set up a tent and sleep outside  too!

So, no trip to California to go to Kim's event in September.

I added this calender page from a vintage kid's book to the package I sent to Kim for the drawing, and thought I'd share it if you wanted to print and use it, but sorry, its a bit crookedy.

Aug giveaway 026

I'll be able to use the hotel computer to check emails, but won't get to post while I am away, so I will do a couple of posts in advance for this week. ( this one was written on Monday, so I am already soaking up sunshine on the beach-through the sunscreen, of course, gotta guard against even more wrinkles)

Please remember that all comments are entered into the monthly drawing, and this month, it is another one of my hand painted charms.

Maybe next month, I'll have my book ready and can give away one of those!!

Copy of book cover Thanks so much for the kind words about the book!  I'll let you know when I have some to sell. I need to proof read the sample copy, then order some and foof them a bit.
Don't you think the wings need to be glittered up???? I just have to be careful to not use a glitter that will flake off, since this is a bedtime story, but then, sparkly sheets don't sound too bad to me.

  1. Karla, i think you should leave off the glitter…as much as it pains me to say so…i don’t think you can sell it for children if the glitter comes off…i’m pretty sure i read something about that somewhere…have lots of fun on your get~away…i hope your anniversary is wonderful!!!

  2. Oh Karla, I agree…painful as it is, glitter that comes off..especially onto pillowcases, too easily makes it’s way into little eyes, and that would be yiikes! for the little one. Your pictures are so adorable and the glitter of a fairy wings is understood :)…and I wanted to tell you how much I love the little rose charm on your post today…adorable! (as always :)…Thanks for leaving us some posts while you are off on your anniversary…Enjoy!

  3. Karla,
If you are going to Nags Head you must check out Manteo! It is a small area filled with lots of shops, restaurants and is on the water (not the ocean). There is also some type of even they reenact you might get to see.
Plan to spend lots of time!

I loved the long weekend I spent there. Must also check out the light houses. There are several in the Outer Banks.

They were my favorite part, but Manteo was a close second!

  4. You have to find glitter that doesn’t come off. I have these really cool glitter pens (I think they’re a copic product). You could at least outline the wings and that glitter does not come off and could add a hint of glitter which would be so pretty! Enjoy Charlotte. It’s a very pretty area that I’m sure you will enjoy. Happy 24th!!

  5. Karla,You lucky girl..flying here and there so much. It must be fun…also good to get back to your own bed.
Where are Sparks and White Cloud? I never heard of them in ks or mo?
I don’t know about the glitter, I think it would look good but it’s been 40 years(my daughter will be 40 in December) since I had a little one, the picture is darling just like it is now. Your call.
Hope you have a wonderful trip and a great anniversary. Enjoy!

  6. I hope you’re having fun on your trip! Lots of good glitter advice so far, so I won’t pipe in.
It took me a minute to realize the cards spelled “Karla’s Cottage”…I must be a bit slow tonight! I’m so glad you like them so much!

  7. Happy Anniversary!
The book looks so beautiful. I think you need a photo of Sugarwings on the back page with a dedication to her.

  8. I haven’t been able to blog hop for a while and have missed your beautiful posts! I didn’t even realize that you had gotten your storybook done. I’ll be checking out all the posts I missed but probably won’t comment on all of them. I’ sure I’ll enjoy each and everyone!
    Blessings,
    Christine

  9. By the way, in cardmaking we use Shimmerz (you can click on the word) to add a little sparkle to our cards. I always use it on fairy wings! Anyway, it’s a paint that has a little sparkle in it and comes in a variety of colors. I linked to a web store where I buy things, but you can find it in many other stores and non-web craft stores. It might work for your books. I can’t wait till I can get one!
    Blessings,
    Christine

  10. Definitely more glitter. I think it’s nice when someone at the post office says that I have glitter on my nose, cheeck etc. and the fairy grand baby will look even better with glitter too! Have a great time where ever you are going, starting today!
