Before taking Sugarwings to a movie this afternoon, I hung out with Beth at an auction for a while. I didn’t buy much, the prices were outrageous for some reason.
I got a $2 shelf to fix up (hopefully as a booth display piece for Silver Bella, I applied to get a vendor spot) and this rug for $10.
The colors of the rug are just right for my pink, brown and ivory kitchen.
But I absolutely fell in love with the hand crocheted trim!
It was rainy and CHILLY?? Wait a minute, what happened to global warming? I haven’t even jumped off my boat into the lake yet this year, the water is too cool for me, which is really odd for July.
Once my sandals got wet, I couldn’t get warm for anything. I tried wrapping my feet in packing materials.
But what really helped was a plastic bag over the packing papers.
Luckily, Beth is a heck of a lot of fun. Or I wouldn’t have spent 5 hours sitting and shivering with my feet wrapped up like some weirdo while all the bidders at the auction were driving prices up too high to buy anything.
Beth always does well at auctions and estate sales. Garage sales are where I find the best stuff.
Before the auction, I went back to Roxanne’s sale, other wise known as the Bling and Button Bargain Blowout from yesterday.
My, my, she has pretty things. A pair of embroidered pillow cases for $2 and more buttons, of course!
She has more jewels to show me, but threw her back out and couldn’t get to them yet.
She let me take a photo of some of her artwork, don’t you love this vintage button bouquet?
This Italian box was 25 cents. Its in good shape, but I bought it to alter a bit.
Right now, it is being used as a display for some giveaway prizes.
I gathered up summertime colors of bright greens and yellows, and added pearls to the mix for my July giveaway.
Vintage buttons, 3 brooches, 3 pair of earrings, a pendant, and pearls, all in cheerful colors and styles for summer.
I got as many excited comments about the buttons in the last post as I did about the jewelry, so I made the giveaway half and half.
Then I wrapped them all up in a pretty yellow hankie that has touches of shiny, metallic gold in a floral motif around the edges.
To that, I added a vintage millinery rose and a clip on crystal earring, and it is all ready to go to its new home.
All my comments for the month count, so leave one as often as you like, I randomly chose one from sometime during the month.
But, hey, that is not all! I decided to join in on Inez’s Christmas in July giveaway too.
Since I bought old greeting cards at the Bling and Button Bargain Blow out, I thought I’d give away a few Christmas ones, along with Red and Green buttons, jingle bells, and some cute red flowers with rhinestone centers from an old sweater clip.
So, every comment you leave this month is entered into TWO drawings, not just one.
I managed to do a little bit of Etsy listing, not much. I seriously need to set aside a day to get things listed to sell, instead of running around having fun, shopping and playing with the fairy grand baby all the time.
People ask me how I manage to do all the things that I do. The truth is, I just have fun and don’t do what I should be doing. That is the secret!
Maybe tomorrow, I’ll get more listed…. or maybe not.
I did finish this tag that I started when I had my blogger’s craft day, Thursday.
It is made with all French ephemera, and topped off with some of the prettiest velvet millinery posies I have, as well as a sweet little earring I got at the garage sale yesterday.
At the bottom, I have a mother of pearl button on a rectangle of old ivory.
If you’d like to buy it, it is $8, and that would save me from having to list it on Etsy, so I won’t charge postage. sold, thanks!
My buttons are selling well, so I’d like to offer a "special" on those. Here are the prices:
$3 plus $1 shipping for one large handful
$5 plus $1 shipping for 2
$7 plus $1.50 shipping for 3
These are for blue, warm browns, blacks, greens, metals, or a mix with white.
Just email me if you’d like some too.
OH, I just love these giveaways! Think I am going to have to buy me some buttons too though. I’ll email ya! Looks like loads of fun! I sort of believe in doing what you want too. That is why no one is allowed to look under my furniture or on top of things too closely!
brillant blog award coming your way, if you want to play.
You always have such beautiful pictures to share, it’s like looking at a magazine. Speaking of which, I got my first Romantic Country subscription issue and absolutely love it! I’m so glad they have a subscription option now. Your article on aging a photocopy is gorgeous! 🙂
oh my gosh! what a haul! I can’t believe she had a whole box of vintage cards! and all that bling! Wow! I NEED to go to more yard sales!
Just love those buttons. Sounds like you still were able to have fun even if the prices where too high.
wow!!! i need need NEED those buttons, i’d settle for just the bright green one (it’s my favorite!)
Ohh I just loe all your little bits and bobs you collect, and make. Just so beautiful.

That rug is nice! I still have ‘learning to crochet other than ropes’ on my to do list. Perhaps tomorrow. Hahaha these pictures of you dressed up as a vamp! I had to laugh thinking of the looks of other people, but you are right! It can be chilly here too in July. I’m sure my aunt (80+) still has her central heating on! To tell you the truth I hate temperatures like 113 F, of which I’ve read in Betty’s she sew pretty blog. In the south of Europe and Turkey (all populair vacation destinations) it’s always hot too in Summer. It’s good for people who like to sit and swim and do nothing else, but I like to do things, like wandering in a castle or a beautiful garden and you need modest temperatures for enjoying that. A long way to tell you that I’m not unhappy with the dutch climate, you’ll never know what wheather it will be tomorrow, but the chance that it will be 113 F is almost nill, lucky me! Have a nice Sunday!
You and Beth should activate your Wonder Twin powers and open up a web boutique.
Oh, you know I want in on this give-away! They don’t call me a button floozie for nothing:>)
I can’t believe how chilly it was yesterday!! Love all the pretties you found and your tag you were working on turned out great! Do you and Beth ever make it to Weston? We should go sometime.
You have such wonderful shopping excursions with Beth! What a wonderful time it looks like you had. Thanks for sharing all the beautiful pictures!
I can’t believe all the buttons you got at one place! The jewelry is really pretty too.

Ok, I’m moving to Kansas. I don’t find anything like that in Texas. Not for those prices so I don’t find any coming home with me. Maybe on my way through to Iowa in September I can hit some garage sales and find some goodies. I bet my husband and boys would go for that! LOL I’m a button lover also, and my husband just don’t get it. He tells me no more there is no reason for it, but I just love picking them up and sorting them and putting my hands in them. I know some people don’t understand, but if you do then you get it. Have a great week.
You might just start a new fad of foot attire. There really is nothing any worse than cold feet. I always enjoy reading your blog of many adventures. The colors of the rug are really pretty , and more beautiful buttons. It really would be a great treat to win one of your giveaways. You have a wonderful Sunday evening, you hear.

I love that rug!! Gorgeous, and it looks fab in your kitchen. Sounds like you are having a fun summer so far–funny, but we have had some really cold weather for July here too. It’s ok–the heat will come, lol.I had to laugh at your paper “shoes” though!

You might have cold feet, but I have a warm heart. Have just spent the last half hour pouring over your archives. What a wonderful blog, so rich in things I love!

Hi Karla,
I love your blog–but I have to tell you I LOVE your stories about your adventures with Sugarwings most of all. Your relationship is so sweet! I have two wonderful boys but fantasize that someday I might have a granddaughter to do girly things with! Thank you for sharing!
We are going to KC for the first time in a few weeks. Do you have any “must see” vintagey places to suggest near or in the city?
Stephanie
Karla,
I forgot to mention that I love your new rug and the colors and crocheting on the edges. Is that a built in corner cupboard in your kitchen? It is too cute. The glass front makes it a great display case for all your goodies.
Gretchen

Hi, Karla — hope your feet have warmed up by now! What fun things today — love the tag and the pretty buttons, and I think I need to visit Inez to find out about this Christmas in July!
Ooh, ooh, I gotta a thing about buttons. I just love them and the more vintage the better. Someday, I hope to come across a big button box or jar or tin at an auction and I am able to bid high enough to bring that bad girl home!!! I love this drawing!!!!
Love the rug, the color combination is very beautiful. What a great bargain on the buttons. Like I said before, you just seem to always find the great garage sales. Hope your feet are now warm.
