Buttons, Baubles, Bottles, & Bears, plus a sick Baby

W_folder_059 As much fun as I had out east, it is so good to be back home. But look at this, I came home to a sick baby!  She really, really, wants to try to play, but simply isn’t up to it, she is droopy and worn out.W_folder_060

Even with a new hat for dress up and a new doll that was waiting in a package on the porch from Fluffy Flowers, Little Sugarwings just can’t manage to muster up the energy to play.  We’ve been cuddled up watching Care Bear videos and now she is napping.

W_folder_001_2 I had even more packages waiting for me when I got back from my trip.

Somerset was done photographing these vintage wallpaper folders filled with ephemera.  So, now I have them photographed and ready to list on Ebay.  These 3 will be in the next issue of Somerset Life.  W_folder_036

This roll of wallpaper was waiting for me too. I had a bit of an Ebay frenzy while on vacation.  I didn’t have any work to do, so am afraid that I got a bit carried away with the bidding. I guess I will be expecting a porch full of packages any day now.

This isn’t my favorite pattern, but it really will make a nice background for many projects. It would be hideous on someone’s wall though.

The hats are some from my shopping day in Lucketts, VA. (previous post)  I am not a huge yellow fan, but I bought these for the flowers, and most of those are white. Plus, $3.50 each??? What a deal!W_folder_053_3

For  a while, I have been collecting old fabrics to make spring time slipcovers for my couch.  I got two more in the mail (Ebay again), the last two on the right.  I plan on dipping all of the materials into a tea dye to coordinate them more.

They should be gorgeous with my French book decoupaged wall behind them after they are on my sofa.

I will use an actual fiber dye in a tea stain color, so they will be washable and color safe.   The only trouble is, that I will have to face the sewing machine again.  Oh no!  W_folder_040

Here are the two pretty birdies in trophies that Robin gave to Beth and I.  My dilemma, was which birdie could I chose?? They are both so cute.W_folder_043

I went with the one with the pink roses. I simply am a sucker for any rosey buds!W_folder_046

Here are a few of the bottles I filled my suitcase with.  There are more still unwrapped.  I plan on filling them with vintage buttons, making labels from old wallpaper and ephemera, then tying up the necks with soft ribbon and a charm.

W_folder_049 This little fawn was a dollar at Lucketts.   How could I let her stay there? I knew she’d be happier at my house with some old millinery flowers as a welcoming lei around her neck.

I always decorate with china figurines of deer for Christmas, but I think she will be quite nice at Easter too. If you think about it, the fawns are born this time of year, not in December!  W_folder_051

These buttons were $1 a bag in Leesburg.  The simple mother of pearl ones are teeny, meant for doll clothes or baby clothes, I think. These won’t be going into my button jars to sell, I’ll save these to make paper doll dresses.

And look a the tiny white butterflies!!  Oh, the things that I can do with those! I can’t wait to start.

But for now, I hear the baby monitor calling out for Grandmama. My poor little sick girl is up from her short nap (3rd one of the day) She is going to need some snuggling.

  1. Poor little Sugarwings~ Hope she gets well soon. Leroy has a cold (in the middle of Summer, go figure) and they do try to play…
Love the goodies you made that you got bac from Somerset Life magazine, can’t wait to see them in there.
The bottles and birdies are so cute!
Not sure if my email reply came back to you but I’ve been getting them bouncing back but more than a week later. So I think they go through and then 9 days later I get an email saying you didn’t get my email, it’s so frustrating!

  2. Oh poor little Sugarwings. It is sure to be a cuddling type of day. It is so sad when the little ones are so sick.
Hope she is soon feeling better.

i hope Miss Sugarwings is feeling better soon, the poor sweet lamb…

  4. Awww She looks miserable! I’m sure she’s feeling better when she’s tucked under your wing! Love that fabric! Hey…you do slipcovers?! LOL! I love those bottles too- I’m going to be jazzing up some myself…and that little fawn is way too cute to put away until December!

  5. I hope Sugarwings is better soon! And I can’t believe what you found down there in VA!!! Craig said it would be expensive to shop down there, but he was WRONG! I’m so jealous now. And the post about your mom is really sweet. I see where you get your personality from! I can’t wait to see if you do your steps like the ones you saw and have fund with all the little treasures!! I am sick and need to go crawl into bed!

Love those little folders, and the birds are darling! I’ve missed things over here… but now that CHA is over… I’m catching up…and it’s GLOREOUSSSSSS!

  8. I do hope that Sugarwings and you can play again soon! Best wishes to her too!
It’s so much fun to see that I’m not the only one who is addicted to vintage wallpaper, lovely shaped bottles, buttons especially the mother of pearl ones, old fabrics, baubles, ephimera and so on. People I usually meet in real life think that I just keep everything and collect ‘garbabe’, they just don’t see the beauty of these lovelies. Keep those inspiring posts coming, have a nice day!

  9. Poor little Sugarwings! I’m sure there’s no better cure for what ails her than the pure love of her grandmama. Enjoy all of your new treasures and I love the little fawn. I say keep it up all of the time!
    Love,
    Julie

  12. Poor sugarwings, she looks like she doesnt feel well! Just makes you want to scoop her up and snuggle with her!
Love the new finds! And LOVE the tiny little green bottle!

  13. Poor Sugarwings! She does look sick in the photo. I hope she feels better soon! I loved seeing all your treasures from the trip. Such great goodies! Amy

  14. One look at sweet sugar wings and I knew she didn’t feel good. Gotta love that she’s a girl, still wearing her floral hat. I have that same brown teddy bear and mine is just as worn. I am so amazed at how you can take every old things and make everything look lovely. The bottles will look great when you are done with them. In the post below…I drooled over all the antiques. The white table is gorgeous and at a great price!

  15. What a trip and what a great mail call when you returned — love your fun finds! I confess, they look like lovely sugarplums.
Speaking of which, hope Sugarwings is feeling better very soon. I have to admit, even in her sick state, she looks adorable. (I, on the other hand, always look like I went through the spin cycle of the washing machine when I’m not up to par. That, or the walking dead…
On a related note — when cruising for something else at Michael’s, birdhouses kept being in my path. I’ve been thinking about your birdhouse bling ever since I read the post and think that has to be on my upcoming project list — it’s just too fun1

  17. Poor little girl, I hope she is feeling
better, awwwh. I think the birds in the
trophy cup is a Fab idea. I am going to
do the same thing with my loving cup!
    Way to cute!

  18. First tell you Sugarwings that I am sending the good health fairy to perch on her door to make certain she returns to good health. So sorry she is ill. Such a darling.Your blog is liking flipping the pages of a high end cottage home magazine. I love what you have done with it and I also love what you find. What an eye you have and you know exactly what you will do with everything. Now please send me those steps with the wall paper. I could really use those and I would love looking at them daily.
    Have fun today.
    Pat

  19. Oh Karla! That little photo of Miss Sugarwings is sooo sad (but she’s SO DARN CUTE in it though)!!! All FOUR of my kids are sick this week… all droopy, tired… and this was supposed to be vacation week. At least they aren’t missing any schoolwork – that’s the bright side. Hugs to that sweet grandbaby!!!

  20. I sure hope your fairy grandbaby feels better soon Karla. She’s so sweet, and usually so sparkly. I can tell she feels pretty bad, from your photo.
I like all of your pretty things very much. The sun has been shining here a lot lately so hopefully spring’ll be heading your way soon!
