Caged

Of course, I couldn't do anything else till I painted these bird cage charms that I showed you in the last post! I know there is a ton of stuff to get ready for my trip to Texas and teaching at Paper Cowgirls, but sometimes its nice to take a mental break from all the real work and do a fun  job instead.

EDIT– so many people asked about these charms, that I added a few to the Boutique

It was a quick little project and a much needed, pleasant, side trip to my busy day.   All it took was a spritz of bonding primer (both sides) a dab of blue paint on the birdie, done with a teensy brush, then a slap of glue and a sprinkle of glitter.

This might not have been very high on my priority list for right now, but it made me happy to do. Now, I can go back to my boring kit making.   All of the ribbons are dyed and everything is arranged, trimmed and ready to go. All I have to do is the packaging.  Ugh. That part is no fun at all.  I'd rather be making stuff.

Hmm, maybe I can make some cute tags to tie onto the packets….AFTER they are all packed up.  That will give me something to look forward to as a reward for getting it done.  Okay, back to the drudgery.  Have a good weekend!

  1. The charms are delightful. I like the making, of course, but I would actually enjoy something like packing up the kits. There is a certain relaxation in the mindless repetition of a task like that. Too bad I’m too far away to help you!

  2. Yep- I’m pretty much doing what you’re doing- everything EXCEPT getting ready for Paper Cowgirl. Because, geez, it almost a week away and I’ve got plenty of time, right?

  3. Cindy invited me to attend as a guest, but I don’t think I’ll be going. I know everyone is looking forward to meeting you. Have a safe trip to Texas and back.

  6. What a great idea to paint them, Karla. They turned out great, and are lots more interesting and personal now.
I’ve started to make my Bird Song tags, and because I needed a break and something fun to work on too, so I understand taking the time to do that.

  7. Karla, Karla,
Those are so very cute. I have a bunch of similar ones and they are just sitting there doing nothing!!! Hope Paper Cowgirls is a wonderful experience. Things have been a bit crazy here and I still haven’t had a chance to make my gift from you but i am so grateful that you thought of me.
    Hugs,

  8. Your bird with cage charms are adorable. You should have a friend helping you with kits and packaging as that would be so much more fun. I like your idea to reward yourself by making tags. Happy productive weekend my dear…

  9. I can SO appreciate your thoughts…we all need that “rewarding” distraction after doing what seems like drudgery! Your charms turned out beautiful..and aren’t we the lucky ones to be recipients in your tag book swap! Have a blessed, fun time at Cowgirls. I’m hoping that next year I can be one of the “students!”
