Changes at the Cottage and a prize for September

Bubble_cleaner_022 If you remember, last time we saw these bottles, they weren’t looking so good….

I soaked and soaked them, using the denture cleaner with the foaming bubbles. No, that is a toilet bowl cleaner that has foaming bubbles, isn’t it? But the denture tablets do foam up and are supposed to bubble off the grime.

Well, they didn’t do a bad job at all, but there were still some oogey places left, and I grabbed a handful of gravel and swished it around inside and that took care of it.  I got a lot of good advice about rice and vinegar, which I think I will use next time instead.Etsy_sales_123

The bottles  didn’t have to be perfect, I wanted them to still look old, not brand new, so I was happy with the way they were still a bit cloudy, (but clean.)  I added some doodads to a couple of them already.Etsy_sales_122

The pink ballerina picks and tiny stoppered pots also got a make over.

I broke the pick off the dancer, and poked the stub into a hole I had made in the cork, added glue to hold it in place, then decided to add a mother of pearl button for stability. I think it looks like moon glow behind her. Etsy_sales_119

One of the hand blown glass vials got the same treatment for its cork, but this time, I covered the front of the button in old wallpaper.

Etsy_sales_120

The 2nd vial  has a cork aged with paint and ink, then topped with a rhinestone.

Both are filled with shiny objects, such as more rhinestones, crystals, beads, etc. plus some words cut from old sheet music about dreams or fairies.Etsy_sales_118

Both bottles are tied onto hand dyed silk ribbon that Heather gave to me, so they can be worn as pendants.  Lou Wanda and Lou Cinda are modeling them for now, while I decide what to do with them.

I think that if used properly, they could be good for granting wishes…. I just need to figure it out.Etsy_sales_121

Sunday was Sugar and Creamer Day. Well, not really, but that seems to be what it turned into.  I went to an auction with Beth and ended up buying a few glass S&C’s.  I was buying box lots and these were in them along with the stuff I wanted.

(this photo doesn’t even show all of them)

Hey– I have a BRILLIANT idea!  How about if I give away a sugar and creamer set for my September giveaway?

I can fill them up with something too.  More details later for my "Sweet September Prize Pack".

I also bought a dozen or so more dirty little bottles to soak, and this pretty hand painted compote as well as some old trophies. Lately, I have been on a trophy buying kick. I don’t have a firm plan on what to do with them all yet, but eventually, I will come up with something. Maybe I will just award myself one every once in a while when I need a boost.  It would probably feel good to win a nice trophy.Etsy_sales_130

Speaking of feeling good- I think Twinkle might be in love. Well, lets hope. This is Teddy, her beau.  She is staying at his house for a few days while they plan a family together.

Which means that I would have puppies due the week of Silver Bella.  Hmm, bad timing, huh? But I want puppies, so I’ll make it work somehow!

Do you think the hotel would notice if a dog was giving birth on my pillow while staying there?

Or would Pam Garrison mind if Twinkle had a puppy or two under the table during one of her classes?

I would promise to give the litter Silver Bella themed names.

At the auction on Sugar and Creamer Day, I mean, Sunday, I finally found just the right vessel for my 50 ballerinas that were a birthday gift from Beth on my 50th  in May.

Well, now it is only 49, Sugarwings has one that she uses to decorate her play dough cupcakes.   But that doesn’t mean that I lie about my age and tell people I am only 49 ballerinas old. I live up to being 50.

Fifty, really is a pretty good thing, I am liking this age. Bubble_cleaner_034

Besides bubbling bottles clean, and then decorating them, I have been cleaning out closets in the cottage.

Sugarwings and her Daddy are moving in with us part time.  It is a sad occasion, I was hoping that my son could make it work with his cute little hippy chick.

But for now, the fairy grand baby and my little boy will be staying here with me.

Which means, my life will change a bit. I have Sugarwings over a lot now, but living here is different.

If I don’t answer all your comments and emails, it won’t mean that I am not enjoying reading them.

It will mean I have a few minutes on the computer before I have to go chase down a two year old fairy running abound and getting into stuff.

And if Twinks starts a family, there will the pitter patter of LOTS of tiny feet around here that I will be chasing.Etsy_sales_110

Not a lot of big changes will be happening though. I still plan on posting a lot, because I can’t stop myself for one thing, I tend to have way, way too much to say.

Also, I will be selling on Etsy, and on Lollishops when it opens.

Here is a small Halloween craft pack made with the very last of my Halloween colored blooms!  I have two of these left they are only $5, and include 3 wallet sized Halloween pictures.Etsy_sales_103 sold

This is my last "deluxe" Halloween craft pack.  All of my orange and black flowers are sold or packed to be sold. I kept enough to make a couple project for myself, and thats that.

I just love this one, see the title of the sheet music? "The Ghost of the Goblin Man." And doesn’t the photo look ghostly itself?

This one is $22, but it is jammed full of lots of vintage supplies.

I want to thank all of you who came by my Etsy shop and bought up all my flower packs! Il_430xn_37041755

I still have 3 of this $9.00 pack left too.

And please, do continue to comment, I’ll still be here and will read each and every one of them and will answer as many as I can!

  1. Your bottles turned out beautifully. I have some that are nicely aging at the edge of our
“back 40,” thrown away by a previous owner generations ago. You’ve got me thinking I should hike out and dig them up. This is NOT a good thing! Good luck with all of your family changes – Sugarwings and her daddy are lucky to have you.

  2. Those bottles turned out beautifully! I always get so many ideas from your blog.
Good luck on the little pups. Hope you figure something out. Seems like you’ve got some creative ideas already 🙂

  3. Hi Karla, I can’t believe Twinkle is going to be a Mummy, maybe! I would certainly be smuggling her into Silver Bella, imagine all the doting Aunts her and her babies would have! So sorry to hear about Sugarwings and her Mum and Dad but glad they will be with you:) Rachaelxo

  4. I am also glad you like to talk, I really enjoy reading your post and seeing the awesome pictures….I love the bottles, they are great……I hope the time that Sugarwings and her dad are with you will be good….Certainly a change for everyone, and the little ones are always the ones to suffer, so glad that you already have such a good bond with her….I am sure that will help…
    Hugs

  5. Thanks for the rice and vinegar advice. Hubby found an old Listerine bottle while out geocaching, and we haven’t been able to get it very clean.
Sorry about the deal with your son. I’m sure everyone is hurting right now, but it’s not over until it’s over. Best of luck!

  6. I come here to enjoy your post, please don’t feel the need to answer back. The bottles turned out great! I’ll holler at you as I drive by this week on my way to Iowa. That’s where the tall corn grows after all! Hugs

  7. Your bottles turned out beautiful. I don’t have any doubt that you will make things work with Sugarwings and your son. I’m sorry that things did not work out for them too. I’m sure Sugarwings will love “helping” you create some more beautiful things. I just can’t imagine how cute Twinkles babies will be. How will you be able to part with any of them?

  8. I love how your bottles turned out, especially the little vial and the blue tinted bottle. I’m sorry to hear about your son’s separation; I’ll be praying for him and his wife, and for Sugarwings as they all try to cope. My parents divorced when I was five so I know how tough it is. I hope things will work out.
Don’t worry about commenting! Just do what you can. I appreciate all the time you put into your posts!

  9. First I want to tell you how sad I feel about Sugarwings’ Daddy and the Hippy chick. I’ll hold good thoughts in mind for them.
The bottles are awesome! And, OMG, would I love to win a sugar and creamer set. I’m going to have to get out the old rabbit’s foot for good luck!

Hahaha can hear you thinking what the hack am I going to do with a VIRTUAL trophy, just give me a real one! And you are right!
Don’t blame yourself on commenting less, everybody understands that you are a busy person and everybody enjoys your posts either with or without commenting the comments (as well as giving comments to other posts).
So sorry to hear about Sugarwings and your son. But it’s good to hear that they can stay with you and be loved, that’s really the most important thing. Take care!

  15. The bottles turned out lovely indeed. I have some very “nasty” bottles I have dreaded trying to clean so plan to try a few of your tips too. I am sorry to hear about the family troubles, seems to be going around these days I am afraid. At least you will have Sugar Wings and your son with you which is going to do them a world of good. You will need some escape time to create though so hope you take care of yourself as well.
Thanks for sharing the photos, love the dogs and will anxiously await a “grandparent” announcement. He, he, he! My tiny dogs would love to join the fun I am sure, but not nearly as cute as these. Be well and sending good thoughts your way!

  16. So much… first, the art! As always, lovely! I can’t believe you got those bottles to such a clean state with the tablets — they look beautiful as do the stoppers. And about those dogs! I hope they find one another most enticing!
Wishing you well with Sugarwings arrival and her dad’s — I am comforted that she will be with her wonderful fairygram during what could be confusing for her. (Or maybe not). She’s a lucky little girl, but I know you think YOU are the lucky one!

  17. I cannot imagine blogland without your cheery voice and generous sharing of creative energy. Hope the addition of little feet on a more permanent basis simply inspires you in new ways.

  18. Hi Karla…wanted to tell you how much I love those bottles you decorated…any hope they’ll be offered on Etsy? I’ll keep watching! Your friend, Bobbi

  19. The bottles are charming I love the way you embellished them and I sure do understand just how hard those old bottles can be to clean. Good luck to you Grandma having your little 2 year old Fairy living with you it will be a bit of a challenge, but many good times too. Please keep up with your creating I just love your style.
    Hugs, Diane

  20. I will keep Sugarwings and Her Hippie chick Mommie and Daddy in my T&P’s. But she will be at the next best place. At Gramma Karkies. Make lots of good memories. Everything happens for a reason. That’s why you made her an “Art” center. Now, she can spend even more time there. Get her some beads. I bet she would spend hours stringing beads.
I hope Twinkle and Teddy had a nice visit. I wish my Jackie would find a nice Husband like Teddy. We would like some Grand Dogs too.

  21. Happy belated birthday :o) Your bottles turned out so sweet…as is everything you touch. I also wanted to tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog. I strive to one day be as good at it as you are…You truely are an inspiration.
    Hugs, Andrea

  22. Karla, I will keep you and your family in my prayers during this life change. My son and grandson lived with us for while, too. It was a busy time, but when I look back I treasure every moment. You are such a blessing in their lives.

  23. Karla, I will keep you and family in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you for informations on cleaning old bottles and yours turned out so lovely. Keep us informed when puppies are on the way, how much fun is that going to be. Give Sugarwings a hug from me.
    Hugs Karen

  24. Hi Karla…I found your blog from Analise and thought I would stop and say ‘hi’. You are so very talented and creative..love all your things!
Stop by when you have time…I know you’re busy!!!
    Hugz,
    Michele

  25. You mean I was the friend whose name started with a P???!!! Haha! I didn’t even guess it 🙂
Thanks for the tag! Or tell Rich thanks…his name was on the envelope 😉

  26. Oh me gosh Karla your already busy life is about to become…. Hmmm any roller skates in those boxes of treasures you brought home?? :c}
    I also must add my thanks that you will continue to post!!! I have enjoyed reading about you days and the escapades you and your little fairy get into. In fact your blog gave me the courage to create my own. If you have a loose minute or two come by for a visit. I’m an “artsy crafty” middle age gal who loaded up the truck and moved to Mexico. So my blog is the day to day escapades of this “a/C” gal and LW her exceedingly patient partner ;c}

  27. Karla, what a joy you are! I love coming here and enjoying your cheerful “voice” and seeing all of your amazing art creations! I like sugar and creamers, but I have a lot of them and since I am going to win the drawing this month, maybe the prize should be one of those little vials that Lou Wanda and Lou Cinda are wearing! LOL!
Sending all best wishes for your son and his family. I have a feeling you will make lemonade out of whatever lemons you get, though!

  28. Oh my goodness I missed reading the last few days. Bethany has kept me busy too 🙂 I hope your son can work things out, if not how wonderful for you to take them in. You are so sweet Karla. Hugs to you and if you want to have a playdate we could bring our playdough toys over. 🙂

  29. I love, love taking things normally thrown away and making treaures out of them. You do this beautifully and I am inspired. Thank you!

  30. I have some old medicine bottles that have been sitting in a box forever. Now I have an idea what to do with them! Thanks!
Great tip on how to clean them too.
I’ve enjoyed reading your blog & will check back in often.
