Changing of the seasons

Happy Halloween!

The weather for this weekend is ideal for tiny, trick-or-treaters.  I find it sad when they have to bundle up in coats over their costumes, but that won’t happen this October.  Their celebratory identities can be on full display Saturday night.

Not that any little ghosties, ghouls, or super heroes come to the cottage.  I can probably count on one hand the number of visitors we’ve had on Halloween over the last 30 years.

But I have Sugarwings and the two of us adore the season, enjoying our decor and lights for about two months.

Then magically, over night, All Hallow’s Eve vanishes into sparkling lights and tinsel!

Uhm, I wish…

What really happens is that I pack up the goblins and their ilk on the 1st, give my house a super, duper, deep cleaning and then trash the place by hauling out boxes and bins of holiday decor.  There is more flocking on the floor than on the tree, every surface of the house is stacked with boxes and strands of lights as I trudge my way through it all til I have some semblance of order.

Typically, I need two days to finish the decking of the halls, then do another round of clean up before stuffing the empty boxes back into the closet and sitting back to enjoy the glow of the lights.

Magic!
