Don’t forget that every comment is an entry into my monthly giveaway. This month, it will be a hand made Christmas item.
After seeing Sugarwings dressed up like Dorothy, I got to thinking about this painting I did years ago.
I called it "Great Aunt Dorothy Reminiscing"
It is my vision of Dorothy in her 90s. With photos of Aunt Em and Uncle Henry, Toto and a hot air balloon on the wall behind her, and a vase with poppy stem in it on the table next to her chair.
Her favorite color is emerald green, because it brings back such lovely memories. And no matter what, she’ll NEVER give up those ruby slippers.
While digging through the drawer to get to the Dorothy card (I made my old paintings into note cards) I came across some others and thought I’d show them today.
I am in the middle of decking the halls and my husband says "it looks like Christmas threw up all over our house!". It is a wreck, boxes, ornaments, garlands, branches, everywhere. I have nothing new made right now, except a mess.
Notice the rain drop hitting the unicorn? That is why there are no more unicorns today, the rain started before his mate arrived and he could get on the ark.
My husband runs some golf courses and I try to do a unique Christmas card for him to send out every year. (this one is wrapped up in plastic, I used to sell them by the 6 pack too).
This guy is a golfing Santy, done in ink.
This is one of my faves, Santa’s elves building sets of clubs.
One year, I did this painting of the front of my studio with Sparkle sitting on the porch and used it as the family Christmas card.
The Holiday Home Tour that I am a part of this year is using this image in its advertising now. That was so flattering!
This one is a little different, well no golf clubs, but also, it was done with watercolor pencils. I had never worked with them before and probably won’t again, they don’t have the range of color I wanted and I found them hard to use.
I do have a few cards left if anyone wants any, I can sell them for $1 each or 6 for $5. I’ll have to double check to see what is left if you want any.
Love the golf cards, well all of them, but especially the golf cards. 🙂
I never cease to be amazed at your talent Karla! I just LOVE the Aunt Dorothy painting…
They are lovely, all of them, but I do especially love Dorothy. I tried watercolour pencils also and gave them to The Princess in the end!:)
Karla, with all of your talent, I just KNOW there must be more to the Aunt Dorothy painting. Is there an illustrated children’s book in the works? There ought to be!!
So many beautiful paintings. Love the Golf Santa.
Alison
Wow……….I agree about the childrens book illustration thing……I”m sure it’s not the first time you’ve heard that! Your talents are amazing. Love the one of your studio with twinkles on the porch…so so cute! The wizard of Oz is my all time favorite movie ever so I love the “Old Dorothy” version!
Those pictures are all great. Do you have any more of the studio pictures?
You are one very talented lady Karla!! These are incredible!
HI again Karla, Thanks for visiting my blog. I am the Grandma of the baby that’s why I can have the time to get back to creating.
Alison
just beeee utiful….wowsers……
big hugz and thanks for sharing!!
Dude, you are just SO talented!
Oh my Karla, I love the aunt Dorothy painting, especially with the story behind it. xoxoxox Clarice
Karla, you are so incredibly talented. You should have your own line of cards and paintings. I remember that article on your last post. It is nice to hear the story behind the garden shed. Does she still have it that way?
What a gifted woman you are. To those of us (me) without your gift, it is absolutely amazing to see the things that you draw and paint. Thank you for sharing all of your wonderful talents.
I love the drawing of Aunt Dorothy and the elves with the golf clubs the best. If I knew anyone who golfed that’s what I would want to send them.
Love the new banner, to!

Wow, your talent just astounds me! It just knows no bounds! so darling! And what a lot of work you got done yeseterday!
I’m speechless. I really can’t find the right words to express to you just what an amazing artist you are. Although I love them all, my favourite one is of the elves putting the set of golf clubs together. Also, I think your theory of why there aren’t any unicorns, and the painting, is awesome!
Amanda (aka Cottage Contessa)
Karla…I am speechless for once!
Priscilla
I do so admire your talent! I suspected, but really didn’t know just how talented you are!
I have to say that your husband’s comment made me laugh so hard! He’s a hoot!
Your cards are darling–very well done! As a fellow golfer, I’m letting you know I’m posting my own golf project tomorrow that I made this weekend.
I totally laughed out loud at your husband’s comment. I can really identify with him. My mother is huge into Christmas and is getting out her stash this week, because she has so much she needs to start early. I call it her “Christmas crap” just to be a smart***. Nice, huh? It does make her laugh. 🙂
Hey, just thinking of things you might still have and want to sell, do you have any more necklace charms like my rose one I traded you for? I adore mine and Christmas is coming you know! Let me know, I would love to buy another for a christmas present. Thanks!
You really are amazing you know that????? I am so in awe of your talent!!!!
I loved the picture of her aunt, and cards with golf grounds are very beautiful.
Karla, you’re amazing! I love the picture of Dorothy (and her boobs cracked me up!) I have never thought of Dorothy all grown up. The fact that you have – and were able to express it so beautifully in color – is truly amazing!
Of course I love all of the others ones too. I especially like the one of your house. I love pictures of houses.
Love,
Julie
Karla, those are such beautiful cards. I have commissioned cards before and it is the most wonderful thing.
Your work is outstanding.
Okay I’ve read and read and I’m all caught up around here…lots of pretties…
Sugarwings was a cute Dorothy!!! Wouldn’t Twinkle sit in her basket?
Love the banner and really love the barn door you and your friend did for the RH write up!
I love the cards and the paintings. You have amazing talent.
