Comment issues and a pot-o-jewels giveaway

IMG_4948

On the last shopping trip that Beth and I had, we spied this grate and both eyed it, thinking it looked like it might cost more than we'd like, but that it was cool.  When I asked, the owner said it was in bad shape or he'd have already sold it.  I looked at the chigger on the side of it, and it didn't seem bad to me, especially since I was going to use it as a welcome mat in the gravel. He sold it to me for $25, which is probably about what a generic, rubber mat would cost at Target.   I have a rectangular one like it by my other back door, so like the way it looks now to have two of them out there in the rocks behind the studio.  And I think it dresses up the doorway, making it much more welcoming.  I like everyone to feel welcome when they come to visit!

Which is why I try to answer my comments. I enjoy hearing from you and consider blogging a two way street. I'm not just sitting at the computer talking to myself. (well at least I hope not!!) But now Typepad has yet another one of their un-asked for improvements.

All my replies go straight to my comment page, and can be read by anyone.  I don't like that at all.  I consider what I write to each individual, a personal response, not part of the blog.  So, until I get this straightened out, please know that I am limiting my replies to comments.

So, please don't think I am rude if I don't respond to your comments.  Blame Typepad, not me!!  Anyway, I don't even know if you get my replies, it looks like they go straight to the comment page and I have no way of knowing if they are sent to you by email or not.

I've also removed the puzzle code, hoping that the spammybots have moved on and will leave me alone again.  Those hundreds of comments showed up with this change, I don't know if they are related or not, both are frustrating.

If the dirty birds comments come back and fill up my email, I'll have to turn it back on.  Hope not, I like it to be easy for you to visit. Especially since you need to leave a comment to enter the giveaway…

And here it is! The September Cauldron of Jewels Giveaway Or part of it, I'll add some more later on, as I find some goodies for the little sparkled cauldron.  So far, I have an enameled leaf brooch in fabulous, deep, fall colors and an old rhinestone pin.

All comments, all month are entered, even the ones from before I announced the prizes.  And please remember, I do value hearing from you, and if I don't answer, it isn't because I don't care, its because I'm having Typepad issues again.

And no, this isn't a break up speech, one of those, "it isn't you, its me."  I really will answer comments again once this is fixed.

  1. Sorry you are having commenting troubles! I love getting responses from you when I comment (I know…not as often as I should….) so I hope you are able to get it resolved soon!

  2. Karla, seriously i don’t know how you have time to do all those emails anyway…if i did that i would have very little time to blog visit…i prefer to visit…but now i wonder if it is rude if i don’t emails replies {?}…hmmmmm… i would love to get a little cauldron of jewels from you:)

  3. Hello, Karla! I enjoy reading your blog and adventures with Sugarwings. Your art is enchanting, as is that baby! Such a delight that you share as you do. I’m new to blogging and appreciate your time in posting and sharing such beauty. Have a wonderful day ~ Angela

  4. Hi Karla
Another adorable picture of your pooch! I don’t know how you have the time to respond to SOOO MANYYYY comments….how do you get everything done that you do??!! 🙂
    Have a great day!

  5. I understand too and I agree with Lori. If you have a blogger account it’s almost impossible to react on the comments, that’s why I do that while visiting. Love that cauldron and the grate!

  6. I swear every time I log into Typepad to do work on someone blog it has changed and not always for the better so I feel your pain. Love your fall goodies and pot of bling!!
    Hugs

  7. You know – I saw this within the comments on another blog and I was so confused – thought she had posted when she thought she e-mailed. Now it makes sense. Not a very nice feature at all!

  9. Hi Karla: Haven’t talked to you in a while, needed to do some catch up. Your camp looked like so much fun. Sugarwings looked like she was enjoying all the company. Glad things are back to normal for you. Blessings, Martha

  10. Karla, I love the pin. Hope I win. (a little rhyme}. I have to say that I was surprised, very pleasantly, that you did respond to a comment I made. It really does make a difference. It’s like someone is back there really reading what you wrote. So thanks. And keep up the good work. Love your blog and your beautiful Sugarwings. Mona

  11. Here’s what you can do to answer comments. When you want to respond to a comment, copy the email address in the comment. Hit reply. Then delete the weird typepad address that publishes the comment and paste in the commenters email address. Its kind of a pain, and takes a little longer, but it won’t add much to your total blogging time.

  12. Hi, Karla,
I use blogspot… it seems to go so much faster than typepad when it’s loading. Sorry typepad, but it’s true!! 🙂
Thanks for the chance to win the pins!
I always enjoy reading your blog.
    Joan

  13. Hi Karla! I am so sorry about the comment issues! I have never had spam on mine but I do use the word scramble code.

I too want everyone to feel cozy and welcome that visits. I want that warm feeling. I like those greats, they go do well with your home!

  14. Hi Karla,
It is always fun to hear back from you
and I hope that the Typepad problems all
work out. Your Blog is a Happy Place for
me to come to and I always look forward
to reading what you share with us. The
pins are so pretty and I love that little
cauldron. Twinkle is adorable sitting on
    your new grate. 🙂

  15. I was so annoyed when I realized typepad had switched to that format too…and didn’t even know it until after I hit “send” on a reply to a commenter and realized it was now on my post 🙁 Thankfully it wasn’t too personal but I was still annoyed. I really liked the old way where you could just respond to emails and, I always appreciate that you take the time to do that 😉 No worries though…we understand!
Thanks for always offering such wonderful giveaways Karla! Oh and I love your new grate “mat”…perfect!

  16. Hi Karla! Love the cauldron and the baubles. Enter me in your great giveaway please!
(p.s. – your comment on my blog today came through just fine. It was great to hear from you!)
    Sue E.

  17. Blogspot allows me to send emails in response to comments, but only if the person has activated their email. Otherwise I get an address of “no-reply blogger.” It really is nice to be able to say thanks for commenting.
Please enter me in the giveaway, those pins are fabulous!

  18. first of all, beautiful photos. I love the grate thingummy and the little doggy perched atop it! :O)
Sorry about the typepad problems. I was considering opening up a typepad blog (I have several with blogger but am always looking for something new), but now I will hold back. Sounds like a bit of a faff to sort it out, time which I don’t have to spend, so I’ll stay as I am.
Must come back later to read your previous post, looks like a good one.
    Have a lovely weekend
    Sadie

  19. Hi Karla!
Other people have commented about this on their blogs also, didn’t know that everyone could read them…. It is frustrating when they change things like that!
Love the giveaway! Cute idea! karen…

  20. I always enjoy a visit to your blog to enjoy your artwork, your home life and gardens. I agree with you that comments you make should be private and only to be ready by the person you are communicating to. Do not worry if you can’t answer. Most people do not reply to every comment.
Hope they get it fixed for you but will continue reading.
    Hugs

  21. Hi, Karla,
I don’t know when typepad changed, but relatively recently I received a comment from you via e-mail. I know what you mean about that — I like to comment specifically, too, rather than to everyone. It’s always nice. But formats have their vices, I think!
Great buy on that grate! And it looks wonderful there!

  22. Oh WOW, this is a great post & you have the most gorgeously beautiful site here. I had to stop by to leave this comment for you – and to say hello of course ! Your posts are creative and original and you have interesting pictures. It’s all perfect ! Thank you for sharing your site and best wishes… Happy weekend….

  23. Hello Karla…Your pins are beautiful…and your grate for a backyard mat is genious!….Your posts always make my day! Thank you 🙂

  24. I never expected you to respond when I left a post, anyway……just wanted to tell you how much I DO enjoy your blog….my favorite by far….and say a big HI from Maine…..:D

  25. Oh, I am SO with you on the stupid TypePad improvement. I don’t know if it will do any good, but I did fill out a feedback form to them. The response was nice – the woman said they’d had a lot of response – but her hint was to open up a new window and cut-and-paste the e-mail address of the person leaving the comment. (Yes, because I need ONE MORE STEP …) Anyway, please complain to them directly if you haven’t. I shudder every time I log in and they’re promising yet another improvement.

  26. Ah yes – most of us ARE NOT computer geeks – I’m regularly frustrated trying to figure out what went wrong or how to do new things. But I guess it’s character building (yeah, right ;->) Hope you figure it all out – would love to win the pot of gold…Cheers, Jewels
