Cousins

Sis's family 293-1
Even Twinkle enjoyed meeting cousins at the reunion. You can tell by the blur of her tail in motion that she was glad to have Boomer come and stay.

Sis's family 049-3

She and Elphie didn't get along so well, though.  Maybe she was just jealous because Elphie was too durn cute?

Except for the Elphie/Twinkle feud, and one little minor meltdown that I had while trying to hurry home from an afternoon on the lake, run to the grocery for more food, and get dinner started before all the hungry kids got back from the boat (not so pretty while it lasted, sorry, family!!),  the camp out was a success.  At least it was on my end, but then, I was sleeping in my own soft bed, not out in the yard….

If you can measure happiness by bags of empty marshmallows, we had a 4 star (bag) weekend. The bonfire pit got a workout and became the gathering area we spent the most time at.  Lots of s'mores were consumed.

Along with some other junk.

When I have a houseful, I'm not constantly picking up. Piles accumulate and I don't worry about it.  So this is the view of one corner of my kitchen for most of the weekend.  With that many people around, its easier just to go with it and enjoy the company, I can enjoy a tidy kitchen when I am home alone and have nothing better to do.  But while family is here to play, I want to be playing too, not clearing messes!

And all the important stuff gets done, with plenty of help!

I made sure I had plenty of time for neice cuddling, this is my nephew, Aubrey's daughter, and she was as snuggly as can be.  Her dad is in the military and has served a few tours in Iraq. It breaks my heart to pieces to imagine him having to leave her to go overseas, but he is being sent back again in October.

FOR A YEAR.

He is a braver person than I am.  I couldn't do it.  Not just the war and the danger, but leaving behind his two babies, who are some of the sweetest kids ever.

We are lucky to have guys like this that are there for all of us. Aubrey has grown up to be a great guy and I am so proud of him and so lucky to have him and his sweet babies and wife as part of my family.

And Twinkle is thrilled to count their dog, Boomer as her cousin too.

We had perfect weather all weekend, with just a few drops of rain at the Renfest on Saturday (I'll have photos from there later)  So, we were able to eat most meals outdoors.  It could have been a disaster if we'd had rain all weekend!

I hope the rest of the group loved our tent city as much as I did, and will come back to set it up again.  The yard seems empty with everyone all packed up and gone.

PS- I had to add codes to the comment log, sorry, I hate that. I like it to be easy for you to leave comments, but all of a sudden, I was inundated with hundreds of bizarre and BAD language robotic comments and needed to block them.  I'm sorry if this makes it take more time for you to comment, but you really wouldn't want to see those….

Also, please remember, all comments all month count toward the giveaway, which I'll look around the studio and scrounge up a little giftie for this week.

  1. Great to meet your relatives Karla. What a party you had been going on, looks like so much fun.
I have disabled my comments for anonymous comments, I don’t know whether you can do that with typepad. I hate word verifying and moderation so that works for me, after I was spammed by Chinese all the time. Mmm at least I couldn’t understand if it was bad language or not. About 100% of the bloggers have signed in before giving comments so you won’t loose comments of your friends that way.
Take care and have a lovely day (cleaning up?)

  2. Karla, sorry to hear that the spammybots have found you and are bothering you…that is SO sad about your nephew…i just watched the top chef episode {for the fourth time} where they had to cook at the air base…i was bawling my eyes out…all 4 times…just thinking about the sacrifice all of them make and being away from their families…not to mention the kind of bravery i can’t even begin to comprehend…i’m glad you had such a good time with your reunion…i like your philosophy about cleaning up later…i could take some pointers from that attitude!!!

  3. Wow, I’m impressed how you get your family to gather in so many ways. This is a hard feat to accomplish nowadays. Heck, I think my oldest son thinks our house has the plague or something. Looks like fun was had by all.

  4. It sounds like you you had a fun filled weekend! My husband has done his share of active duty service and going over to Iraq in 2004 and now we are faced with the possiblity of his reserve unit going again in the Spring. My heart goes out to you and your family as I know firsthand the stress and worry that these year long deployments cause.

  5. Wow, Karla you’ve been a busy little bee.. I’ve been so busy, not much time to blog.. I’ve loved seeing your posts of your family and the camp o rama!!! I bet that was alot of fun… I gotta tell ya, your yard looks so pretty… Hope all is well…

  6. Roses, snacks and wild turkey…sounds like my kind of cook out. I always enjoy reading your postings, but your nephew’s profession brought a tear and gratefulness to my heart. My son is also returning to Afganistan and I know what you are going through. These brave men and women are the heartbeat of this country. I will add your nephew to my prayers to keep him safe and I will include his family to give them strength as a family unit while they await his return. Sea Witch

  7. You made me laugh, Karla. It just isn’t a family get together with our family if there isn’t one melt down! That’s the best part about family. The forgive, forget and then remind you next year about it…hee-hee. It looks like a wonderful time was had. And I agree, with the empty feeling that’s so tangible when everyone leaves. If always feels like a large hole has been torn in the atmosphere around the house. I guess in a way it has. What a great weekend you must’ve had! – Kathy in Chicago

  8. I love the 4 star marshmallow bag weekend! Got such a chuckle!
Please let your nephew and family know that we are so grateful for his service to our great country. Without men and women like him, this country wouldn’t be what it is today.

  9. Nothin like “Wild Turkey” to make a day go from bad to worse! I hate that stuff! But oh it looked like so much fun!!! Tents all over people having a great time. Glad your holiday was good.

  10. Our dog, Bailey (a cockapoo, but we call them spoodles here), doesnt play well with other dogs, either. Especially the ones bigger than him; it’s like he has a napolean complex or something! Drives me nuts! Whenever he’s around another dog all you can here is me saying: “Play nice, Bailey. Bailey! Be nice. Oi! BAILEY! PLAY. NICE.” & so on and so forth. (sigh)

  11. What a wonderful weekend!!! Four empty bags of marshmallows and an almost empty bottle of Wild Turkey equals a great weekend!!!
My sisters doggy and my doggy are bffs. They are so cute together!!! They even have sleep overs sometimes.
    Blessings,
    Christine

  12. Camping with family complete with tents! 🙂
Hello Karla! I’m catching up with the blogs on my list for I have not blogged myself for quite a while. And I see a lot has happened here.
This must be a great grand reunion for your family – and there’s nothing more better than be surrounded by such.
Twinkle and the cuz looks adorable together. Love their picture. oohhh I hope all went wel in the end with the other cousin. Twinkle shouldn’t worry – both of them are just adorable! 🙂
