Kitties galore

I've had some help in the kitchen lately.

Although, as much as she likes cookies, she likes kitties even more, and it is hard to drag her away from these guys.

I have to admit, I tend to spend a bit of time visiting them too.

We tried to keep them indoors, but the mama is not a house cat. See what she did to the screen when we kept her indoors? Not just one, two windows got torn up.  And there is no way she could pretend it wasn't her, there was orange and white fur all around the openings she'd torn in them.

So, back they went, out to the deck off my husband's office. It isn't a bad spot for them, up away from predators, and in an insulated dog house, under a table that is under an awning. No rain gets in, and they are pretty cozy up there.

My husband not only built a ramp for Pumpkin to get up to the deck easily, he added an 8" high wooden rail around the base so no babies could slip off the side of the deck.  They now have a play pen.

There are five kitties, we hope to find homes for a few, but if not, I think they'll be pretty happy staying here. If you want one, let me know.  They will be snugglers, they get lots of holding time, and that always makes for a good pet.

One was supposed to go to Sugarwings' home, but surprise! Her cat had a kitten. What are the odds that her orange kitty had a calico kitten the day after our orange kitty had calico babies?

Now, please, no lectures about spaying and neutering. I'm not uninformed or uncaring.  I simply like babies and will either find a good home for the kittens, or keep them all. We will spay all that we keep, including the mama.  One litter was plenty and we are thrilled to have them. We are kind to our babies and treat them very special, they have good lives.

We live in the country, we get rats and snakes. We need hard working cats outside to keep the critter population down, but they are also cuddled pets.

  1. They’re adorable, and obviously much-loved! I’m sure they’ll get lots of spoiling during Birdsong, too. Wish I could have one as we have snakes, too (not poisonous) but one of our dogs does a good job of catching those, thank goodness.

  2. I’m a baby lover too Karla! I just got two new kittens from a friend and am having the time of my life with them. I loved seeing the girls snuggling with the sweet little kitties.

Stunning! I adore cats, and I wish so much I could have one of your kitties. When I left the UK to live in the States (near Boston) I took my 3 cats with me. They travelled first class on the SS France, while my husband and I were in passenger class! One of my cats was pregnant. 5 years later when we returned to the UK, we brought 7 back with us (including the original 3) seven years later (with my new husband) I went to live in south Africa, and my original 2 cats went with me there, too. I loved them so much and still dream about them. They both died in South Africa, within a few days of each other, but by that time they were both 22 years old (Siamese seem to live a long time) I’m presently trying to persuade my husband (the third one) that a cat would make my life complete. In the mean time I enjoy the 2 belonging to a neighbour, who very generously allows them to visit. But, I’m still working on getting one of my very own. Blessings.

  4. How lucky of you to have those kitties with you for so long! Over 20 years is such a blessing, Lesley. I didnt realize that Siamese lived longer, but that explains our old Tom, who was a tabby, but his mom was Siamese, and we had him for almost 20 years. He was a tough guy, but loved a good ear scratching.
