Faking Fall

Swap_day_and_gifts_and_sorting_11_2 Carol is on her way here from the other side of Kansas City to get set up for a preview of our "Welcome Autumn" story for Romantic Country magazine.

Today we are setting up the table and seeing what needs to be tweaked before our photographer comes in a couple days.

So, yesterday, I spray painted (with florist spray) my trees to make the area look more fallish.

I might have to get another can, I will see how this works out for the set up, it might be enough, to make the area look like it is early fall when the leaves start to change and the air has a slight chill at night.Swap_day_and_gifts_and_sorting_109

Beth and I made up all of the swap screens from the piles of panels spread across  my studio.  And they were such fun. I loved the assembly part and kept saying each one was my favorite as I matched up the panels.

We also drew a name for the scarf winner, it goes to Rhonda

(ps- I am doing some hand dying this weekend and will plan on posting how to’s on using fiber reactive dyes if you are interested)

Swap_day_and_gifts_and_sorting_110 We randomly chose panels to add tags to as prizes too.Swap_day_and_gifts_and_sorting_112

I wish I could have made one for each and every swapper, I appreciate all they have done to make this a successful and pretty swapping experience!

Swap_day_and_gifts_and_sorting_118 I think we ended up giving out 27 tags along with the scarf, a purse from myself and one from Beth, and 6 gift certificates from Vintage Workshop, as well as each person getting a free download from V.Workshop too, along with the downloads of images for the swap itself.

Thanks again, everyone for all you did!Swap_day_and_gifts_and_sorting_125

After Beth and I finished assembling panels and packing boxes and bags up, and I got my trees spray painted, I  "made" this bird bath.

All I did was use Liquid Nails to glue a wash bowl to a pedestal that had lost its top years ago.  We’ll see how it holds up over the summer, and if the birdies like it.

It doesn’t look at all like Autumn around here, Spring is bursting out all over.

Wish me luck with Carol today, faking a fall picnic!

And please, check out my previous posts for details on the two giveaways I have going on right now.

  8. I think your sprayed tree is very convincing. What an idea to create fall when summer hasn’t even started. You’ll never know what to expect here and that is one of the things I admire in and like about you. Those parcels look yummy! I hope that I won a tag too! Have a nice weekend!

  9. Karla, love the new bird bath, it looks great. I know the photo shoot will turn out wonderfully well. Is that little Twinks sitting by the bird bath?

  16. Happy last day of May to you Karla…don’t get tooooo speckled with the fiber reactive dyes. Happy happies.

  17. Faking fall..that’s cool. I used to work for two craft magazines and we worked months in advance too. June and July were when we did the Christmas issues. I’d have to NOT look outside and put on Christmas Carols for inspiration. LOL. You have some lovely ideas and a lot of talent. Thanks for always sharing the inspiration.

  19. Karla,
Only you would think to use spray paint to fake fall! Your creative mind is amazing! I hope your shoot goes well. The tags are darling and I wish I’d have done this swap even though when the sign up started I was swamped!

  20. I am in love with the bird bath too. Please let us know how the Liquid Nails fares with hot summer temperatures. I have the makings in my garage, I am sure, for a similar project-now to get them together and make it!!

  23. I think your trees look very “fallish”. You never cease to amaze me Karla! When I see the fall issue of Romantic Homes I’ll get a chuckle knowing you played mother nature to get that look:>)

  24. Hi Karla,
Sorry I havn’t been here in a while, I’ve gone back on old posts to catch up on what I’ve missed, and I see everyone has done a beautiful job on the swap, I’m going to send you my one panel I made before I became sick, perhaps you can add it to your screen panel or maybe you could turn it into a little wall hanging, either way I feel I’ve missed out on a wonderful swap.
I love the painting you did of Sugar wings, and I think painting the leaves to make it look like the Fall is a fantastic idea.
    Hugs
    Kirstie.

  25. Karla,
THank you and Beth for doing such a wonderful job on this swap! I hope I get one of your pretty tags…the packages all look so pretty! Have a great weekend!

I am sooo sorry I didn’t get my panels sent in on time. I hope you’ll show some, so I can see what others did.
    Happy Sunday!
    God bless.
    Terri

  27. The fact that are spray painting the leaves cracks me up! I am looking forward to how you dye the scarf because I have dyed things one color, but never mutliple colors. Love the birdbath, I think I am going to have to do that at home. Jen R

  28. Best of luck with your photo shoot, Karla! I can’t wait to see how it turns out in the magazine!
PS. The ‘tags’ look fantastic– wish I’s known about the swap earlier!! Next time, maybe…

  29. I have never ever heard of such a thing. I feel very gullible right now!!! Thanks for all the work you did for the swap… it sounded huge!!! Hope you have a wonderful week!

  30. Well, autumn is my favorite season, so maybe I could prolong it with a couple of cans of florist spray? My goodness, that looks so fun… I love your blog. Thanks for stopping by mine the other day. I enjoyed the giveaway pics and am hoping to be entered in your next one if I find out exactly which link to click???

  31. You crack me up! I seriously thought you were kidding when you told me you were painting the tree red! I can’t wait to see your home in real life, I think it’s going to be so much fun! Just don’t try to paint me while I’m sleeping please, lol!!!

  32. I received my Birds and Bonnets screen on Saturday and I just LOVE it! The panels go together perfectly! Thanks to you and Beth for all the work you put into making the swap so fun. I can’t believe I was lucky to win one of your tag prizes–it’s gorgeous, thank you!
    Marilyn:)

  33. Karla, I had no idea you were here, too! That is great. There are a surprising amount of blogger gals in Kansas.
Thanks for the invite. I would love to come but we are kicking of junior golf that day and I’m a volunteer for it. I know the group of KS gals I know are planning a Lawrence party soon. I’ll add you onto the invite list.
    Cheers! LA
