Flower bed visitors

Finally! I was able to do some yard work. Normally, I am way too early with my plants because I just can't wait to get the blooms started.  This is the latest I have ever been in setting out annuals.  But I discovered if you wait till this late in the season, all the plants are half price!  That made me feel a bit better about it being so far behind.

Sugarwings was quite the helper. She discovered how easily the plants popped out of the ground and right back into the divided plastic trays they came in.  So, we had to elaborately tuck the new flowers into their "beds" and pat the soil around them to distract her from replanting them right back into their previous containers.  After giving them plant food and a drink, I think she got the picture.

Did you notice this unusual planting in the first photo?  My first reaction, was, "oh no, the Lamb's Ear will be smashed!".  Then I realized just how prolific this flower is, and how hard to kill. Plus, who could blame her for wanting to pull off her dress and sink down into soft, fluffy leaves of Lamb's Ear?

In the past, I've been quite a flower lover, but for now, I think I'd rather spend my time growing fairies.

It was the day for soft and fluffy.

This little guy was hopping around in the flowers too.  We held him for a while, then sat him down to hop on home to his family. That wasn't easy to do, Sugarwings was pretty fond of him.  When I asked her what his name was, she said it was "Mine".

  2. Hi Karla, I enjoyed your photos much, but this last one with her holding the baby is just too cute. What a beautiful Granddaughter you have! Of course I think the same way about mine too. But she fits her name Sugar Wings.

  3. Karla, Sugarwings is so precious. I love
the picture with her and the tiny bunny.
She has gorgeous blue eyes. What a beauty!

  4. Well the “Mine” name is hard to argue 🙂 especially to a so adorable fairy such as Sugarwings :-)My, if those beautiful blue eyes are looking right back, it really is hard to resist.
Oh what are those red lines in her face? I hope she wasn’t scratched.

  5. Your little Sugarwings is such a beauty… and the lambs ear photo is adorable, these are the things that make up a life of precious memories :)…Enjoy!

  6. I like to name things “mine” too. Especially cute furry things like bunnies or kittens! 🙂
She is a beautiful little girl!
(I haven’t bought any annuals yet this year ~ and I’m often the one heading out as soon as it hits May 15th, the official planting of annuals date 🙂

  7. That is just so cute! I rescued a baby bunny from one of the dogs once, and when I took it back up to the tree grove, there was it’s mama waiting!

Okay ..everything about this post was just darling!! I love the name.. “mine”. lol
She is just such a beautiful little girl… oh my!

  9. Every time you show us photos of Sugarwings I think (and not I alone) that this is the best photo you have ever taken of Sugarwings, but every time you amaze me to show a photo that is more beautiful than the last, so I don’t dare say that the last photo of Sugarwings with the bunny is sheer perfection! Do you save or print your blog for her? I think you should.

  10. Sugarwings looks like a cherub sitting in the soft, downy lambs ear! What a pretty little girl. And that bunny is adorable, too, though I chase bunnies OUT of my garden. She can have ‘mine.’
