grumpy

My birthday book for Sugarwings is not going well today.  Very little got finished this afternoon.

Leelee_book_009_2The tea party page is done as well as the text page to go next to it.

Leelee_book_004_2 I painted a light background, scanned it, and then printed it with the words on it.

I’m sure that if I knew how to do digital scrapbook techniques, or just plain old, how to add text  to a picture, this part would be easier!

The plan is to scan each page, then print and glue and embellish and sparkle them all up after I make them into a book.  That way I can make multiple copies, with no two exactly alike.  Leelee_book_003

But on this page she looks way too grown up.  It’s not good enough to use.   Luckily, not much time went into this picture, that also might explain why it isn’t very good??Fairywindow_heather_025

Since painting wasn’t going well today, I took a break to add  some things to my Etsy shop.

I seem to have piles and piles of crap, I mean finished art, around the studio that needs to be moved out of here!

So, I listed a few, but never seem to get many listings done.

I wondered if it was because I take so long with the photos, but from the looks of this one, that can’t be it, I didn’t even bother to comb this poor fairy baby’s hair before I took her picture!Fairywindow_heather_012

Two fairies got listed and are ready to go to new homes.Fairywindow_heather_054_2

And I dithered on whether or not I wanted to sell this wallpaper journal. It seemed like it should be a keeper, it is made with such pretty, old papers.  But, I can make more if I need one later on.

It could be a scrapbook, or a journal, it is all vintage pages (9" x 11") ready to be filled with whatever the new owner feels like doing. It also comes with a scrap pack of coordinating wallpapers to use for further embellishments.Fairywindow_heather_060

And lastly, this  8" x 4" tag.

Five items, is that all I listed today???? Geez, I am really not getting much done.   I have a goal of 100 items, but have trouble keeping it at 50.  And even though sales are not bad (thank you very much!!) they are not the reason I can’t keep up.

It is because it would take me a solid week to list another 50 items to get it up to that point!  And I get bored doing it.

Its so much more fun to make things than to try to sell things.

Leelee_book_010 Sorry about the whining.  Too much time off coupled with not enough time to finish a project that isn’t going well can do that to a person.

And maybe I miss my buddies who were here all week? It is sad to see them fly back to Florida and California. We’ve been friends since we were 11. Here is a picture of Sandy and I in our 20s, looks like we were hanging out in a bar…. probably were.Leelee_book_015

Plus, today is my 23rd wedding anniversary, and even though we had a wonderful celebration early, I felt a little lonely today, with Rich out East and me here.Leelee_book_013

Here we are with the kids that day, and my, we look like kids ourselves!

Doesn’t Sugarwings look like her daddy, my youngest son?Leelee_book_012

Thanks for listening to me be down a bit.  Blogging friends are good to have. I’ll cheer myself up by blog hopping around and seeing all the beautiful eye candy out there on my favorite sites!

Before I go, here are a couple things I added to the August giveaway.  A pair of pink vintage earrings and a Victorian calling card to go along with the brooch with the blue stone.

More goodies to come, you deserve it after putting up with my wallowing in self pity tonight!

ps- thanks to all of your kind wishes for my fairy baby. She is doing much better now.

  1. Oh Karla.. that book for Sugerwings is going to be totally priceless!!! You are such a good G-ma. And YES.. she does look like her daddy!
You were just striking beauiful on your wedding day. ( and still are of course)..but that photo is just so gorgeous.
Happy Anniv. I’m sure it did seem wierd and lonely without you hubby there, even if you did celebrate earlier.

  2. I think you are feeling a bit of a let down after all the activity of the past two weeks.
There was so much excitement and build up to it, then the actual fun and then, poof it was over for another year. It’s bound to make you feel sad and out-of-sorts.
I bet, you’ll be back into a routine in no time.
Still plenty of summer left to have some fun, before all the fall Holidays begin.
We start back to school, tomorrow. Since I’m a special education teacher (32 years down, 2 to go), that means me, too. Yikes, no more staying up late (reading blogs) for me.

  3. Karla, Happy Anniversary! You looked beautiful on your wedding day…you have kept your looks. I know all to well about one’s husband being gone on anniversaries and birthdays. I’m so used to it now…doesn’t faze me. 🙂 I understand about listing…it isn’t horrible, but it does get a tad tiresome. I just listed eight things last night and blah. 🙂 You’ll get there. Maybe if you make yourself list at least five things before bed every night…you’d make it to 100 in no time. Good luck.

  4. Hi Karla,
I hadn’t realized how much time has passed since I saw you here at Karlapalooza. I just love the idea you are doing of the book for Sugarwings. She’s going to love it. And I may be wrong, but your art is amazing. Don’t see anything wrong with that picture at all! Your journal is gorgeous. Love those colors. Happy Anniversary to you and Rich, and yes, I do see the resemblance of Sugarwings to your youngest son! It’s all in the genes! LOL! Hope you have a perfectly wonderful day,
    Kitty

I always believe a good “pity party” is a fine thing every so often. If we are never down, we can not truly appreciate the really UP moments! You are so incredibly talented that a few “off” days are to be expected. This book is adorable so far and I’m confident the finished project will be amazing! Here are a few words from a favorite Jimmy Buffett song, “Breathe in, breathe out….move on. I always enjoy reading your blog, Karla, so pity party away and cheers to you! – Kathy

  7. I’m sure a lot of the grumps you have are a let down after all the activity you’ve had for the past few weeks! Love your wedding pics and yes, Sugarwings is a little carbon copy…but your older son…doesn’t look like he’s having a good time! LOL that’s hilarious!
The book is wonderful-What a treasure for her!

  8. I would be grumpy too if I weren’t with my hubby on our anniversary! How funny though, we both have birthdays in May and my 28th anniversary was the 9th of this month! Happy Anniversary, we understand, everyone has those days:>(

  9. Tom Sawyer says “maybe you’d feel better if you’d go to Beth’s house and help her paper her cabinet”.
Or just come for a craft day and play with the cuttlebug.

  10. Happy Anniversary, Karla! So sorry to hear you are feeling down. Your book for Sugarwings is going to be incredible. What a treasure that she will cherish SO MUCH especially as she gets older. Your wallpaper journal is to die for! I hope your day brightens up! Take care!

  11. Happy Anniversary, Karla and Hubby. The thing about “pity” parties is you are usually the only guest. But not in Blogville. We can all relate to these things.
Love the picture and they do look so much alike. It is in the eyes and cheek bones.I love family photos. I so need to get back to scrapbooking. Now that the kids are back in school , I may have a little time.
And use the “Grown Up” page. Sugarwings will still love it.

  12. Even on your down days, you get more done than 99 percent of the population! Probably you just needed a little time to regroup. Happy anniversary, and give yourself a little break!

  27. You wedding photos are beautiful. I can understand being down after having lots of fun with friends. I tend to be that way after the Christmas rush! I also get that way the last week of my summer before school starts again. I miss my free time. Sugarwings is so blessed. The book is so sweet.
    Cheers!

  29. Happy anniversary. I love your pictures, yes Sugarwings does look after her daddy and what I especially like about the other picture is that your husband is looking soooo in love, sooo romantic.
I know what you mean about the picture of Sugarwings, but don’t you think she will like that herself? I think like all kids she want to be bigger, so perhaps it isn’t that bad that she looks older than she actually is, she will grow into it sooner than you’ll realize. (Just a thought while I know you don’t have that much time anymore though I know that you are a serial and speedy painter!!)
    Have a nice day!

  30. I understand the grumpiness – I am there all the time these days! *hugs* to you for cheeriness! Love the wedding pics – you look so darling! Happy Anniversary!

  31. Oh, Karla — I love the anniversary photos and you’re right about Sugarwings and her daddy! I’m sorry you’re spending it alone; sometimes even early celebrations aren’t quite enough! And the journal of watercolors is lovely. No one does a yorkie like you! Glad you are cheerier today!

  32. oh goodness, I have days like that too! Days I feel where I haven’t gotten anything accomplished and am completely and utterly disgusted with myself. But I have to put them all aside because maybe I needed the rest, or the break and the next day I am more refreshed and focused. What pretty wedding pics-thanks for sharing them with us!
