Happy Memorial Weekend!

We couldn't ask for better weather for Memorial Day weekend!

My yard is probably at its peak for the season right now, I am just loving all the blooms.  I really do hope to fill my planters and pots with annuals, eventually, but for right now, they aren't missed at all. The perennials are the star of the show!  This is the first year, that they have really all come together as I have hoped. They are well established and blooming like crazy.

As far back as I can remember, I've wanted rose bushes, but I've never been able to grow them until I discovered Knock Outs.

Yep, I'm loving these!  (and my new camera!)

Has this ever happened to you? At the end of the day, I noticed that I'd been out and about with mismatched shoes all afternoon.  And I'd been so proud of myself for wearing nice clothes instead of gym pants or work clothes! My trip to En Le Jardin had me re-thinking my wardrobe. I am a slob. So I am trying to make an effort. But his is how it turns out.

I guess you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, huh?

  1. Karla,
You mean those sandals don’t match? I had to look twice at them to figure it out and I used to be a shoe buyer for Nordstrom!
    Shhhhh, don’t tell anyone, o.k.?

  2. Karla,
I didn’t notice until you pointed it out. At least they are the same color, I went out once with one black and one blue!
Love your wisteria, I have a lot of knock out roses, too. When it comes to roses I’m a pink lady, we went to a garden show today and I got a beautiful climbing pink one and some nice plants, too. Guess I’ll be digging holes the rest of the weekend. Happy Memorial Day.

I’m right in there with the bunch. I’ve done the same thing, too. I wear Birkenstocks in the summer and all of my sandals “feel” the same. Dressing in the dark, who could tell?!
I just came from the Shabbyscraps blogsite and I think you look darling. Besides, you can’t make bee-u-tiful art if you aren’t comfy. Have a great Memorial Day! – Kathy in Chicago

  5. I have done that shoe thing before but had to work the whole day like that!!!!!
I just got my first knock out. Can’t wait to see it GROW!!!!
    Have a great Memorial weekend!!!!

  6. Good Morning Sweet Karla…I am pretty sure that your “artistic gene” cancels out the need for a “fashion gene”! And I have an idea that Scarlett O’Hara herself would have come away feeling a bit messy after a few days at Le Jardin…anyway, we planted 13 of the single knock out roses yesterday…I hate it that they have no scent, but I hate blackspot more! Your Friend, Bobbi

  7. that is hilarious on the shoes Karla , I love it !! And i have done that before and still laugh at myself over it. Just be yourself and dress how you are comfortable , you look great and who cares. Love the roses I want to get one for my garden , they wold look especially nice with lavendar planted near. Donna

  8. I am right there with you on the shoes. If I like a pair of shoes I will buy them in every color since I have HUGE feet (11) and finding goods ones can be hard. I went the whole day with one brown sandle and one black one and NOONE said anything until after my sister called me and told me to look!!

  9. Your garden is beautiful, just beautiful. I so want peonies! It’s hard to grow things our in the high desert of CO where I live, though. 🙁 And, don’t let mismatched shoes discourage you — it could happen to anyone!

  10. You made my day,I laughed so hard, my daughter asked what was funny! They were very similar, in your defense!! And you are not a slob!! All anyone around you notices is your beauty, your cute dimples, your wonderful smile and your fantastic personality! “Sows ear” my ARSE, nothing could be further from the truth!

  11. One time I went to a night class, and it wasn’t until I got there and there was some light that I noticed I had two different shoes on–one an open-toed and one a closed-toed. I didn’t even feel the difference.I still laugh when I remember that. Those were the days of too many kids and too much activity. I guess I really was crazy. Thanks for the laugh. Mona

Oh My Goodness!!! You are SOOOO funny! At first glance, I thought you were taking a pic of your painted toe nails, hahaha!!! Then I saw your different shoes! Your yard is SO Beautiful!!! I have No green thumb, and I love roses too, but every single bush I have ever planted (except two) have died! My husband once brought back 22 rose bushes from a trip to Tyler, Texas for my Mother and I, all of hers did wonderful and ALL of mine died! I think they require too much attention for me, haha! Lovely pictures! Have a great Memorial Day!!!

  13. You are so hilarious, Karla, with those mismatched shoes!!! I enjoyed meeting you at “En le Jardin” & hope we will meet again some day! I guess we were the only 2 grandmothers there but heck, we sure don’t look like grandmothers & that’s what counts!!!lol
    Hugs,
    Sherry(the invisible one!!!)

  14. You have one of the most beautiful fairy blogs I’ve ever seen. Beautiful paintings and gardens and photos are wonderful! Will visit again – thank you Karla!

  15. i laughed myself silly! reminds me of when i went shopping recently, went into the dressing room and discovered i went all day with my clothes inside out. 🙂 your yard is so gorgeous!

  16. Karla, you are adorable!!! I giggled at
your shoe pic after I looked at it a couple
of times because at first glance, I didn’t
notice the two different shoes. Alas, I have
    also had wardrobe malfunctions. I
once wore my dress inside out to my Niece’s
Graduation (looked ok to me all day until
someone pointed it out to me…ugh) and one
time I actually had a washcloth creeping its
way down the sleeve of a jacket that I was
wearing at a business meeting. I was wondering why I was itchy by my wrist and
when I looked, there IT was…sticking out
of my jacket sleeve in all its glory! I
wanted to dig a hole and crawl inside. Yes….it was noticed at the meeting. lol!
I don’t even know how the washcloth attached
itself. Perhaps during a wash as the jacket
was washable and I think a stray washcloth
just got caught inside the lining of the
jacket. My Sister did the shoe mix-up at
her job once. She had two different colored
shoes on AND the heels were NOT the same height. I remember laughing so hard when
she told me her story. Lucky for her, a
kind co-worker pointed it out to her before
    she had a meeting.
    I just love your spirit! : ) 🙂
    Your garden is lovely.
    Happy Memorial Day,
    Janis

  17. At least they are the same color! If it makes you feel better, my sister wore her slippers down the aisle when she was my maid of honor! At least they weren’t fuzzy. Even better she didn’t stop mid-church to announce her mistake!
Your roses and wisteria are wonderful.
    ~Marilee

  18. That is hilarious! Frankly it was hard to notice as your feet were competing with the wisteria – no competition, the wisteria wins!! Gorgeous garden!!

  19. Karla you gave me a much needed laugh for the day. Don’t feel bad I went out a couple of weeks ago with two very, very different earrings on. I agree with you Knock out roses are the very best and easiest roses to grow. we have had them for a couple of years now.
You and your family have a wonderful memorial day.

  21. Hi Karla,
I too didn’t know why you were taking a photo of your feet and shoe’s until I read your post. How funny, I’m always looking for a laugh on monday mornings. That’s it for today.
    Your garden looks absolutely beautiful.
Keep up the good work and thanks for showing us.
    Hugs,
    Anna

  22. you are stylin’ darlin!
    how funny is that!?!
    have a wonderful memorial day….
we will be partying in my garden too as long as it isn’t raining….keep your fingers crossed.
    chasity

  23. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! U SO CRAZY!!! I went to work at the bank one time with a navy blue shoe with one size heel and a shiny black with a flatter heel and didn’t even notice till one of my customers came in late in the afternoon and made fun of my feet!
Your flowers are beautiful…it’s raining here again and my flowers will hopefully bloom soon!!

  24. Your blooms are wonderful! I’m so jealous of all that beauty! I just bought my first “Knock out rose” too and just wrote about it tonight! Aren’t they great!?
Your shoe issue cracked me up! I can’t believe you had TWO pair that were so similar to each other! You are not a slob Karla! You are cute as a button even with your paint covered clothes!

  25. Oh that is so funny about the shoes! I did that once. I have two pairs of the same little boot. One for work and one for good. I put on one good and one worn out dirty boot and went to work one day. It was quite funny when I figured it out. Have a great day,
    Tracy M.

  26. You are not a slob my dearest – but the shoe thing IS funny —- been there done that. At least yours are the same color – one of mine was blue – the other black.

  27. Your “mismatched shoes” made me literally laugh out loud!
Brad does that on purpose — he’ll wear two Chuck Taylors but in different colors — like a black pin-stripe one with a tie-dye one. (he says they feel the same 😉
    ~Becca~

  28. oh karla, the whole mismatched shoe thing makes me love you even more…..you are too cute! hope all is ogin well with SW and thanks for the lovely visit to Carol’s she has a beautiful shop!
    xoxo, Tiffany

  29. Well I have to admit I had the same experience. I was meeting my mother-in-law and sisters-in-law for dinner at the Cheese Cake Factory and discovered when I walk in the door that I had two different shoes on. The girls had a great laugh at my expense. (My ten year old was mortified)

  30. Lisa Bartholic

Karla, as usual your website makes me drool. I love everything you do. So nice to know there are others that have the same taste as me. My friends don’t get it. I wish I could have attended the En Le Jarden event. I was absolutely amazed by all the talent. What a memorable weekend. Love, Lisa
