Homework

Sbella_booth_258 Isn’t this mat wonderful? I bought a book full of them this summer – and full of old photos too!

I finished the little sketch that I had started 20 years ago and just stumbled across the other day.  My sissy reminded me that it is of our Grandma Smith.  Although, after I added to it, it doesn’t seem to look as much like her, I might have slimmed her face down a bit too much with the shadows.

Oh well, I still think it will be a good picture to use for the "Portrait Rustique" class that Kim Kwan is teaching at Silver Bella.  We were told to bring a photo, a mat and a frame. I’ll bring some others in case this isn’t quite right, or I am not in the mood to use it.  Gotta have choices when its time to sit down and make something!Sbella_booth_260

While at it, I got some more "home work" done.

For Sally Jean’s soldering class we need to bring prepared artwork in three sizes: 1×1", 1×1 1/2", and 3/4×2".

I printed a bunch of my original paintings and a few old pictures on the printer’s  ‘contact sheet’ setting.  Then, I glimmer misted some old book pages and started gluing little pictures to it.Sbella_booth_263

All of the little pictures got enhanced with sparkly inks.Sbella_booth_265

Some got painted backgrounds.Sbella_booth_267

And a couple got millinery blooms.Sbella_booth_266

All are left on the page, since it will be easier to transport and harder to lose that way.

Good idea, because today I am such a loser. I am turning in circles looking everywhere for stuff I have misplaced.  One thing I can’t find is a big travel bag to pack all  my supplies in. Now there are only so many places that could be, and so far it is in none of them.Sbella_booth_264

Hopefully I won’t lose all these little pictures now that they are ready to pack. I’m bringing a big assortment, plus extra small prints just in case, I never know what I’ll need, or what I will lose on the way there….

I’ve been in the basement working on about 12 different projects with severe ADD and I kept loosing the hammer….so I’d move on to something else….then I lost the pliers….back to look for the hammer…..I’ve got such a mess down there it’s no wonder!

I was so wanting to go to Silver Bella this year but things just didn’t work out. SO – I will be living vicariously through you and the other “girls” whose blogs I read! Take lots of pictures, “k” ?!
I love all the little tiny artworks you printed out. Actually, I really like the contact sheet you made. Just on its own. It really is a tiny piece of art by itself – just sitting there like that. I may borrow that contact sheet idea for a project of my own. I can’t paint at all but I can sure fake it with some nice clipart images.
    Hmmmm……. thanks for the idea!

  12. I love all the little photos/paintings that you are taking for your class with Sally Jean. I am so jealous because I want to take a soldering class of hers! I took a workshop with her this past summer in Cortona, Italy called “Candelabra de Cortona”. We made chandeliers with stuff we brought to the workshop plus some treasures we found at the antique market in Arezzo, Italy. I just finished mine and am so pleased with the outcome. The theme of mine is my great grandfather and grandmother heritage. My great grandfather was from the Tuscany area and had a winery, so all the crystals I made were of old photos and articles on his winery. See my latest post for the pictures!
I hope you have fun at Silver Bella and have fun in Sally’s workshop – say hi to her from me!
    Happy Day!

  13. You did some great homework. These will be so lovely when they finished up in charms. Ah I wish I could be there too, or did I mention that earlier ;-)?
When something cannot be found temporatily in LiLi’s house her husband yells: Think!! Sometimes that helpes, thinking quietly on which occasion the bag has been used for the last time.
I give myself let’s say an hour to check everything and then I have to stop, to prevent me from looking over and over at the same places again. Loosing something is epidemic over here. The good news is that I’m always finding something that was lost too when I’m looking for something.

  14. I am so happy to see the finished portrait, it looks terrific! Your art work is simply amazing and love to see all you do. Good luck with packing, I can’t find anything I know I have these days either.

  15. I hope you find your bag Karla. My stomach is in knots thinking about getting everything into organized suitcases, making sure my house is clean-enough for my mother-in-law, yada yada yada. I like the pieces that you picked out for sally’s class. Which one are you taking? I still haven’t even done my little pieces yet. That’s bad, huh? I like your pencil drawing of your grandma too. I decided to take the train to Denver. It is a 6.5 hour ride but worth removing the stress of driving myself. See you soon!

  16. Hey Karla! First of all, was my post about Twinks’ babies 100% clear that I am 100% on your side about the whole thing? If not, forgive my poor choice of words. It is so hard to say much in this format! Just in case, I had to say it! You know I think you rock!(Next post) I remember the first time I put my Samantha in a little kiddie ride with her brother, I think that she was about a year old and he was 2, the thing went around about ten feet in the air and I was alternately terrified amd tickled to death at the look on her little face, so much like SugarWings…Pure Joy! and lastly (next post) your tiny pieces really are exquisite! I can’t wait till you re-open your etsy store! Your friend, Bobbi

  17. I hate that THERE ARE ONLY SO MANY SQUARE FEET and i’ve looked in every one of them and STILL CAN’T FIND THE STUPID THING moments!(!!!) Happy Trails to you Bella’s

  18. Your art here was even MORE amazing in person and I just LOVED what you did with it in my class (even under the less than ideal circumstances!)! You are so talented and your wonderful attitude helped me SO MUCH through that rather tough predicament! xoxo
