How does your garden grow?

Leaves_005 Its definitely spring here, and my flowers are showing it.Leaves_004

The wisteria on my garden gate  are in bloom and bunnies are busily eating the plants I have sprouting up in the garden.  I think lining the bottom of the fence with rocks will help, the ground has settled and the fence is a bit too far off the dirt this year.

I’m fixing the problem tomorrow, the rabbits are going to have to settle for just eating flowers, the veggies are off limits!Leaves_012

There was a heavy rain last night and all of the peonies are laying on the ground, and so are many of the iris.  Spring flowers can be so fleeting, it is sad to see them meet an early demise.

On the other hand, it means I can fill the house with picked flowers and enjoy them indoors!Leaves_017

Every year, my yard seems to be a little bit more unkempt. I do like the wild-ish country garden look, but this is getting away from me.

Between the baby and the dogs and everything else I try to do, my yard is taking a back burner.  With my husband flying back and forth from the East coast, I have inherited the mowing and trimming as well as the flower and veggie tending, so I think I will just have to live with a bit of wildness this year!Leaves_011

Over grown and wild isn’t so bad.  I think I will call it "lush" instead.  Leaves_008

Our big, old, fat, tom, Kitty Boy is a bit over grown and wild himself.Leaves_019

More presents came in the mail today!!  These are from Kim Caldwell, one of our swappers.  She sent me some goodies from her event, An Artistic Affair.  I saw photos of her passing out these bundles of lavender tied up in old hankies and thought how sweet they were, and now, look, I have one of my own!

Once again, I want to thank everyone who participated in the swap, and let them know how much I appreciate all their hard work and time and generosity.  Also for the cards for my Great Aunt Caroline’s 100th birthday. I haven’t forgotten all of you, I am working on photos of all the cards still pouring in and will show some photos as soon as the swap is caught up and mailed out.

Remember, every comment gets entered into both drawings I am having.  You can read the details in my previous post.

Now, I am off to a party tonight!

  1. Karla – I love your beautiful, “lush” garden! It’s very dreamy 🙂 And is that a giant sandbox I see? My girls would go nuts with that!
    Have a great weekend!

  2. Your garden is very pretty. You know, the English like to let thier gardens grow a bit wild or lush, so just call it your English garden, but you have to say it with an accent.
Hope you have fun at your party!

  3. I love that wisteria. It’s something that I cannot grow up here in the North, so I must admire everyone else’s. I like the wild and rambly look. Keep it!

  4. I love your back yard and the wysteria is just lovely and such a dark purple. I have some growing over my deck but for some reason only a few blossom this year so Ill just enjoy yours. Thanks for sharing. kathy H.

  5. That tom cat has some definite personality. My garden took a backseat and these humid 95 degree days almost guarantee it will remain as is until autumn. I just go out and water once a day and I feel like the gardener of the century. Great pics!

  6. Your tom kitty is stinkin cute! He does fit in perfectly with your lush garden. I just picture Sugarwings carrying him through the garden in a few years

Your cat’s expression made me laugh! He has a lot of personality. Your garden with your picket fence is just beautiful. Don’t worry…I always prefer a little wildness to being too groomed and clipped. It’s much
    prettier wild.

  8. I think everything looks wonderful. Simply love the fence and the bed of irises.
All your creations are beautiful, I love the Victorian decor and the linens. It is always a pleasure visitin’ with you.
    Hugs, RoseMarie

  9. Your garden is lovely and perfect for a country cottage! The flowers are beautiful and I love all the little vignettes you have set up.

  10. such wondrous photos of the garden! i love the pansy pot party! it’s one of those things that look planned but instead is even better for its randomness. i would love to wander here 🙂 the picket fence, the arbor over the gate all look wonderful to me!

  11. The garden is glorious, Karla. And Kitty Boy looks very mellow. I was worried about you/Kansas and tornadoes. Hope nothing happens to blow this beauty anywhere but around cyberspace!

  12. You must have called those lavender hankies to yourself by wishing for them. That’s what I did with the gift certificates to the Vintage Workshop. Just an amazing gathering of clip art that I can’t choose from. And now I won’t have to . Thanks to you and Beth starting this incredibly fun swap!

  13. it is so much fun to have a garden, isn’t it? i dream of the day… i love the simple “white” of your garden area and the plants. dang those rabbits… i once lived in a neighborhood where the back yards didn’t have much room for gardens but those bunnies were everywhere anyways! one of the few wild animals that manages to stay wild in the city. 🙂

  14. Love your garden and all of your flowers, so pretty. We have been working on our yard this past week. What a job, we still have one area by the side of our house to take care of. That will just have to wait for another day.
    Irma 🙂

  15. I love a slightly untamed look in my garden too, but like you, I’m a little behind, so I know that feeling you’ve described. I think your garden is still very lovely though. I love wisteria!
