I could use some friends… be my friend and have a chance to win a prize!

Have you seen this post of Amy's?

She posted it a couple years ago, and it was so good, I'm glad she recycled it.    It gave me an idea for a craft night project that was simple and fast and really cute.  I had friends coming over to hang out in the studio and thought I'd offer supplies and a project for anyone who wanted them.

IMG_9926
I glued vintage paper on plastic eggs, and my little buddy, Adeline Grace, a friend's daughter, made these.  No one else was in a crafting mood.  Addie was prolific, and got more and more creative as the night went on. I asked her if I could be her Grandmother, we seemed to have a lot in common.

It was nice of my friends to indulge me and let me make things while we talked, sipped wine and ate treats.   And good to catch up too. I've had the most AWFUL week, just a lot of drama going on behind the scenes that you don't want to hear about.  An evening to catch up with friends was just what I needed.

And it spurred me to clean up my studio, which I also needed to get done.

IMG_9891
Do you ever find yourself starting a project as part of a clean up? I'd got this shelf at a junk store for $3 and wanted to make it over.  While I had the spray primer out, I thought I might as well paint this statue too. Someone had added some garish colors to it at one point (so I got it for half price at an antique mall).

Using the steps in my side bar on how to paint furniture (listed under tutorials), I sprayed primer, glazed and top coated them.  If you don't count drying time, I'd say that it all took less than 20 minutes to do.

When I first saw the shelf, I knew it would be a great space saver on my desk.   It allows me to have more supplies within reach, since I now have two levels.

IMG_9920

The desktop is not quite done, I'll rearrange things a bit better when I have more time. I was more concerned about clearing the table tops off for my guests to have a spot to work at.

IMG_9922
The big work tables really aren't very  attractive and the plan was just to use two smaller tables, then bring in the folding tables when I had company and needed more space. But it has become a habit just to leave all the tables up and keep them covered in clutter.  I might rethink that plan after my next two craft days coming up this week.

When there is that much flat, open space, its hard to contain myself.  If there is a spot empty, I fill it.

IMG_9919
It would be easier to plan craft days if I had the tables stored in the garage and could set them up just when needed.  Which is the opposite of what I had been thinking before, that I should just leave them up so they would be ready for guests. Nope, if I leave them up, I have to spend a couple hours unloading them before guests show up!

IMG_9935

During clean up, I took a break to blog browse and saw that my friend, Mary, had added Google Friend Connect to her blog. Now, for some reason, I thought those were only on Blogger, not Typepad, so I never added one.

She also is having a bribe gift to readers who sign up.  Well, I'm not shy about bribes, so I'll offer one too!

If you sign up to be my Google Buddy, I'll enter you in a drawing to win one of these Peat Pot Pretties with vintage millinery.

Like I said, I've had a VERY rough week. I could use all the friends I can get. Thanks!

  18. Karla what fun it would be to visit your studio and spend a craft day with you. I just finished the Alice tag for my daughter from the kit you sent me awhile back. I even found a teeny weeny bottle at the flea market today so now I can add the drink me.
Sorry your week has been so bad. Emotional weeks are worse then sick weeks. Both are bad as you know from your recent flu.
Have a glass of wine and enjoy your friends.

  26. Linda @Desires of the Heart.

Hi Karla, Sorry your week was a bummer. There are weeks like that and we all have them. But, you have such a glorius sanctuary in your art studio!! I so envy its size!!I’m sure if I had more room I would just fill it up with great junk also!! Not sure if I could ever really have a room that was really as big as I thought I needed it to be. 🙂 I received my tiny charlottes and am so thrilled with them!! Thank you also for the cute way you packaged them all, so sweet. Hope to use them in my miniature stuff. I have been working more on my dollhouse lately and want to make the attic my dream art studio. Doesn’t that sound fun? Hope this next week brings you much joy and refreshing. At least here in NE Kansas it is supposed to be a lot warmer!! Can’t wait. I signed up to be one of your followers, although I already am. Thanks, Linda Desires of the Heart.

  27. So sorry to hear you’ve had a bad week, Karla. We have had one, too. I always love seeing photos of your creative space. I will definitely sign up to be a follower

  28. Karla, i am sorry you are having drama over there…i hope it all gets sorted out, and things quiet down for you…your studio looks so pretty all cleaned up…it really is a huge workspace that you have, lucky girl…sometimes i forget that when your pics are closer shots…i would love to win one of your peat pots with some yummy millinery…and i would like to say here, that i have read you faithfully for about three years, and have never won one of your giveaways…no pressure though…heavens no…LOL…i am following you…

  29. Karla, I could not believe your stock pile of vintage hats! My friend Lisa (Tarnished & Tattered) & I have a THING for them but, we come no where close to you wonderful stash! Oh how I would love to come & craft with you in that amazing room. Thank you for sharing. Charlene

  30. your studio is amazing…but yes, the more space you have, the more you will spread out. I have such a tiny little spare bedroom that I use…and I’ve even managed to cover the entire surface of the bed…along with everything else!
Today I told myself I would clean up…but started playing with all the goodies I was finding…..better to use them up now rather than stuff them in a box….I agree with that completely!
I hope the coming week is better for you!

  31. Deborah M. Woodrow

Karla, no matter what you make, or use, everything always turns out so lovely !
You are gifted, and talented beyond words ! Love the precious Deer in the yard.
HAPPY SPRINGTIME ! Hope to see those pups soon !

  32. I had to laugh about filling up an empty table if it was there — that’s just like me (and it goes for purses, too — which is why I try to carry small, because otherwise, it would be far too heavy!) The shelf looks terrific — nice to have that extra level. It looks great all the way around.

  33. I signed on too. I love your craft room. I would come craft with you anytime. I am just in awe of your blog also!!!

  34. Jackie Mohring

    Hi Karla,
I love your studio and I LOL regarding your comment if a space is empty you have to fill it. I believe we are kindred spirits. 🙂
    Be well,
    Jackie
