In the pastel forest

Thanks for all your well wishes for poor little Bookie.  His fever is
gone, and he is doing better. But I can tell that he is still feeling
bad, he follows me around and stares at me, like he is begging me to
help him. It just breaks my heart to see him in pain and confused about
what is going on with him.

My trees are coming along well.  I have some of the actual vintage ones that I have dyed and glittered listed in my Boutique.

IMG_5776

There weren't very many to list, because I was using them all up in my own projects! I've been decorating the trees themselves, and also using them on the Putz houses that I've been remodeling.  But I've got lots more soaking in the bleach right now and will be dying them tomorrow.

Sugarwings has offered to help, so I'll be dying them in Kool Aid.  I've never tried that but hear its wonderful to use.

IMG_5788

There are a few more finished pastel trees in my Etsy shop, too.  Not many until the fairy grand baby and I get that soaking sinkful finished.  Hopefully, we'll do that tomorrow, because I need to RE-DO  the glitter on my Grumpy Fairy books over the weekend!!

The printer made a mistake and the covers that I spent hours glittering were cut wrong.  But I didn't cry.  My lip might have trembled a bit, but I took a deep breath, and took the box of pages back and asked for a redo.  I'll just need to set aside a few more hours to glitter these new covers.  Oh well.  That kind of mistake happens, I just have to deal with it and get glittering.

IMG_5773

While waiting for the new book covers and for the dark trees to bleach out, I started planning my Silver Bella booth.

IMG_5769

Next week, we are going to Florida to help clear out my Great Aunt Caroline's home, so I want to have everything done and ready before then. When I get back, I'll do price tags and pack it all up.  I'm  happier if any show I do is packed and ready at least a week before the event. It makes life so much more calm and enjoyable!

IMG_5770

So, in the front half of my studio, I'm setting up a 10' x 10' booth to play dress up with my goods. We have a very small window of time to set up the booth on Vendor Night at Silver Bella, so I want to be as prepped as possible. No surprises, no problems, all planned ahead.

Plus, it would be hard to relax on my trip to Florida, if I was fretting about all the work I've left behind.  And this is a special trip, Sugarwing's first time on an airplane!

IMG_5777

We have a day to go to the beach in Jacksonville, then down to Orlando for a day at Sea World, and another day that we don't have plans for yet.  We can't take her to Disney World… a long story that I'm sure you don't want to hear…  If you've spent time in the Orlando area with a 3 year old, I'd love some tips on where to take her for that last free day.

Any ideas?

And please remember, that all comments go into the drawing for a copy of the Grumpy Fairy bedtime story book as the gift for the OCTOBER GIVEAWAY.

If it ever gets done and glittered, that is.

  1. Karla, that is too sad that you can’t take your fairy grand~baby to Disney…i know she would love it there…your trees are so darn cute…and i love what you are doing with your little putz cottages!!! sorry to hear about your wonky book covers…you are having more trouble with your book…i hope that is the last hurdle with those and it is all smooth sailing and happy glittering from here on out…

  2. Love all your pastel Christmas trees! Smart idea to do a dress rehearsal for your booth. I used to do that, too! My neighbor always said I set it up just to tempt her! Hope you and Sugarwings have a safe and delightful trip! In my next life I’ve decided I want to come back as either one of your dorkies or as your grandbaby! ;0)

  3. Hi Karla!
I am so glad Bookie’s fever is gone. I have not been able to stop thinking about him, he is so cute!
Your trees are just beautiful!! I know you and Sugarwings will have so much fun dying them together 🙂
I am so sorry about the books!! All that work you did but your attitude is wonderful! I cannot wait to get a copy 🙂
I feel so bad that Sugarwings cant go to Disney 🙁 Poor baby girl. That is one of my best memories as a child. I wish I could think of another place you could take her!
Please stop by when you geta minute.
    Hugs,
    Amy

  4. Please understand that I am not a cruel mother who doesn’t want her daughter to go to disney world. I only want to be there the first time she sees Cinderella in person,I’m sad enough that I will not be there the first time she’s in a plane or sees the ocean.

  5. Please understand that I am not a cruel mother who does not want her child to go to disney world, I simply want to be there the first time she sees Cinderella in person and I also think she’s a little young to truly enjoy it. I’m sad enough that I will miss her first plane ride and the first time she sees the ocean.

  6. poor, poor Bookie! Wow Karla, you seem extra busy. Your forestland looks magical! I would have cried and stamped my feet over the books – grrrrrhhhhhh! Enjoy your trip and all the new experiences with that dear little girl! Rachaelxo

  7. Leandra's other grandmother

Madame, you are NOT Leandra’s mother. Leandra’s mother has the right to make parenting decisions and it is your responsibility to respect those decisions and to treat her with respect. Your have NO business disrespecting her is such a manner as this on a public forum. You owe her an apology and from this point forward respectful treatment. You have gone way to far with trying to pretend Leandra is your own child; it needs to stop here and now.

  8. So glad to hear the baby is doing some what better. Since you can’t do Disney, what about Universal Studios? Or is that too much like Disney? LOL

  9. I’m glad that Bookie’s fever is down and hope he’s back to his old self soon. It’s awful to see one’s pet suffer.
Sea World sounds like a great alternative to Disney! Although, I bet Sugarwings will be wondering where all the mermaids are! LOL

  10. Glad your little dog is better. It is hard to see our pets age and not know exactly how to help them. Love your little trees! I have noticed that it is very hard to find the old mercury glass beads any more. Have a great trip to Florida. I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun things to do. Linda

  11. happy bookie is feeling alittle better..they are like little kids..just help me please..& we dont know what they want…..trees looking great..have fun with you family in Florida Lorraine

  12. Not going to Disney World isn’t the end of the world for Sugarwings. Actually, she would probably enjoy it more when she gets a few years, older. It can be pretty overwhelming for someone her age. Hopefully, you, her mom and her dad can go there together and be able to enjoy her excitement as a family.
You are so organized! It amazes me how you are able to do it all. And, I love the trees.

  13. I love, love, love that pastel forest! I’m so glad to hear that your little guy is feeling a tad bit better. Your trip to Florida will be bittersweet, but I also know you will have a wonderful time. Enjoy the beach and SeaWorld. Bring us back lots of pictures. – Kathy in Chicago

  14. The trees are wonderful and I love the pastel forest. Must visit your boutique! It’s always sad to see a sick pup (no matter how old they are) and I’m glad he’s doing better. Have a lovely time in Florida. It could be a bit of a tough trip in some ways. Glad you have a fairy godbaby there to cheer you!

  15. Well, I think that Sugarwings’ extra day would be well-spent in Gainesville – it’s pretty much in between Orlando and Jacksonville, and I’m here!! 🙂
Glad Bookie is better. Sorry about the book covers! Have a great trip!!!!

  18. Dear Karla,
I have been worrying about your sweet
Bookie and I’m glad that he is doing better.
I pray that he continues to heal. It is
so hard to see our beloved pets/fur-children
    hurting.
Your trees are lovely and I can’t wait to
see how the kool-aid colored trees will turn
    out!!
I’m sorry to read about the book glitch…
I know from reading your Blog that you have
put so much into it. (Hugs)
I hope that everything works out. I know
you will have a wonderful time at Sea World.
It has been awhile since I was in Florida,
but there was a drive-through Safari in
the Orlando area at one time. It was a lot
of fun! Perhaps, that is an idea for the
    third day?
    Please take care.
    Hugs,
    Janis

  19. Hello Karla,
Have fun in Florida, there’s plenty to do without Disney.
In that last photo (right above the Grumpy Fairy Book pic) the peach tree looks like it’s made of yarn and not a “bottle brush” material. Is it just the lighting that makes it look different? Anyways, I love PEACH!
Thanks for all the eye candy!

  20. I’m in fairyland christmas tree bliss, I love each and everyone of these photos filled w/sweet magic and enchantment.
The Koolaid dyes are amazing, There’s a recipe for it in my book as well. They work wonders for many items.
Thanks for sending me to a wonderland!
    xo!
    Lisa!

  21. Sweet Karla! I certainly understand that the baby’s mom wants to be the one to introduce her to Cindy and Snow and the gang (I lived within 20 minutes of the parks’ main gates for 2 years and am on a first name basis with the princesses). Anyway, DIsney is Exhausting and sometimes Just Too Much, and maybe it is all just as well. And, since I am Eternally 5, if not 3, years old, my Very VERY favorite non_Disney day was the day I spent at Sea Worlds’ Discovery Cove. She is too little to swim with dolphins, but Grandma is not! It was pricey, and worth every penny, I can’t wait to go back there someday. Your Friend, Bobbi

  22. Also, Karla, there is a place nearby called the Stage Door, a little British pub whose owners I became casual friends with, they have a true British Sunday dinner every Sunday (duh, Bobbi) and it is not the least bit fancy but wonderfully friendly, with Al doing the floor show and Miss Linda in the kitchen doing the cooking. If you would be there then and want the info, email me, it is very family friendly, again, not fancy, but an intersting, off the beaten path place….Bobbi

  23. Oh Honey! I just read the other posts…I am so sorry there is a family fuss about the baby! None of it is any of our business, but out there it is, and I hope it passes. Being grandchildless, please let’s all remember how lucky you ALL are to have her, and for all of you to have influence on her little life. (I HATE it when families fight! My boy has not spoken to me in 17 years,he has 2 little boys whose names I do not even know. And the main reason he will have nothing to do with me is that, while I was not perfect, my mother-in-law poisoned him against me.) All of you just go on LOVING HER!!! The rest will all sort out, and I know that nobody meant any harm. Best thoughts to all of you, because all of you love SugarWings/Leandra, and we love her in our own way, too! I guess I should have just politely pretended not to have seen the posts, but there they were… You are so generous to share her with us and so I feel a need to speak, but only in the most supportive way of the entire family. Your Friend, Bobbi

  24. Karla,
So refreshing to see you rolling with the punches re Sugarwings, covers cut wrong and Bookie. Life is hard and so many more serious things happen.
I just can’t wait to meet you and see all the lovely things you have made! You are a Rock Star in my eyes!
    Big Hugs to you!!!

  25. Every year that I see you make these I want to make some too! I finally did it this year but in my eager overzealous approach I dumped a bunch of bleach and let them sit way too long and they fell apart! Now I’m LOL at my errors and ready to try again! Wish me luck and thanks for the inspiration!

  26. Your trees are so beautiful – I love them so much I just placed my order :). Can’t find those lovely faded colors easily! I seem to remember seeing a picture of you somewhere (maybe Silver Bella pic?) with your hands all green from trying to fade them lol…so let me just say I appreciate your labor Miss Karla, you’re wonderful!
    Laura

  27. Ouch! Sorry the covers had to be redone. You are brave to not cry. I, for one, would have had a good long pout and some ice cream before taking them back to be redone.
Good luck getting Silver Bella all prepped before, and double good luck for a safe and happy trip to Florida with Sugarwings! Did you decide yet what to do on the extra day?

  28. Love all your wonderful holiday projects. How about taking Sugarwings to Universal Studios? I bet she would love the Dr. Seuss area. Hoping Mr. Bookie is doing better.

  29. Sea WorldI recently came across your blog and have been reading about disney world. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often

  30. oh my gosh,,I love your blog!! I love what you did with the suitcase as a display, your little girl on the beach ,priceless. I will be back soon
