ooops, another one frittered away and gone

Summer_garden_and_gifts_061There is a party here tomorrow.  A craft day with blog friends, that I am really looking forward to. But, somehow, today got away from me, and I haven’t got my craft room picked up yet.

I might just be saying, "Welcome, kick some crap out of your way and make yourselves at home!"

Summer_garden_and_gifts_047

I did make little giftys for the crafters coming.  B for Beth.

(why it is such a wintry tag, I don’t know, maybe I had the air conditioner too high today and was chilly??)Summer_garden_and_gifts_052

And an M for Marilyn.Summer_garden_and_gifts_053

S for Shawn.Summer_garden_and_gifts_055

And Gwen  gets a G. I haven’t met Gwen yet, she is an antique dealer at the mall I used to be at. Beth has a spot there too, so they have met. I am looking forward to meeting her, Ive seen some stuff she has made and love what she does!Summer_garden_and_gifts_064

My speakers are finished, covered with wallpaper and neatly tucked under the new cabinet.  I was afraid they might look cheesy, but I think they will be fine. I also painted the cords so they disapear too.

The rest of the day was put into making a scrap book for Sugarwings.  Summer_garden_and_gifts_059_2

Have you seen this site on flickr where you can make your name in a variety of letters? I did that for the fairy grand baby, then wrote something about her  for each letter.

Too bad there are no C’s in her name, because she is very Cuddly and Cute.  Summer_garden_and_gifts_060

This photo of her hard at work on her painting is mounted onto the artwork she did that day.

Summer_garden_and_gifts_056 I found this cool Wizard of Oz paper and couldn’t wait to use it to back  Sugarwings in her Halloween Dorothy costume.

(the opposite photo of her with Twinkles, says "every Dorothy needs her Toto".Summer_garden_and_gifts_057

Aren’t these papers fun?

I used a close up of the baby’s ruby slippers on the first page, then inside the card on the second page, is another picture of her in her costume.Summer_garden_and_gifts_058

Am I obsessed or what?   Here I am cutting out pictures of the baby all day instead of getting ready for my craft party!

Oh, but isn’t she cute and cuddly???? Do you blame me at all?  Looking at her photos was a beautiful way to fritter away a day.

    hugz…

  2. Nah, I don’t blame you. Much more fun than cleaning up for guests! Maybe you could have a treasure hunt! And as for the speakers, MY Yorkies would have that pretty wallpaper torn to shreds within the hour. Sigh… Ya’ll have fun now!

  3. The tags are beautiful, but all of these years I thought B was for Beverly. 😉
I think it must be the most fun ever to have your very own Sugarwings. And, I think she looks so much like you.

  4. Oh, well! At least you have cute stuff to show for it! I frittered away my afternoon but don’ have much to show for it! I am too hot to be productive! Love the scrapbooking, you make me want to get at mine, love all the great dorothy stuff! So cute!

  5. Debbie Walker

Totally understandable that you would spend your day on that cutie. I have to do the same some days with my little britches and tug boat.
Karla, stay free to tell guest to “kick it out of the way” and come in. Love it!

  6. So wish I could be there with you all!
I wonder if Gwen is the one I met on our way back through? Brad and I stopped at an antique mall in Lawrence (was going to call you to meet up again but read that you were busy writing a magazine article)…. Anyhoo, there was a Gwen that rang up our purchases. Brad bought a bunch of old albums and a vintage men’s hat, so we both had fun!
    🙂

  7. It is so nice to see that I am NOT the only one with a craft room that is…um…well used! I love the tags. You have inspired me those tags!

  8. Karla, no need to clean up! I’ll feel right at home and kicking crap out of the way will make it feel even more so!!! Giftys?! You really are a sweetie:-)
Awwwwwhhhh, Sugarwings in Oz is so darling!

  9. Oh Karla, she’s so beautiful, I don’t blame you!!! Your tags turned out so pretty, I know they’re all going to just love them. Hope you have fun… wish I was there! xxoo,Dawn

  11. Don’t clean it! I cleaned mine a couple months ago and totally lost my mojo with it!!!!! I don’t want to make a mess now or something… I’d love to kick some crap out of the way and play in your work room 🙂 In fact this is what I tell my friends when they invite me over to their houses…”don’t bother cleaning, I can shovel off your couch and step over toys at your house as easily as I can at mine” LOL!

  12. Who could blame you for being obsessed with pictures of Sugarwings?! One day when I have grand babies I’m sure I’ll be just as bad. Your garden is so gorgeous! I’d have to water and water to get that much abundance of green! I’m a little “green” with envy!

  13. ohmygosh!!! Sugarwings dressed as Dorothy:) how very very cute!!! have a great time at your craft party today, that sounds like a blast and i love the tags you made for everyone!!!

  14. Hahaha, you did just the right thing Karla. Suppose you cleaned up that studio and then started scrapping. No one blames you for not being able to stop when you are making things of/for that adorable Faery girl!! Then you could have started cleaning again…
Don’t you have an empty suitcase somewhere? That declutters your studio in a minute (here speaks a trained professional). Be carefull to check these suitcases afterwards…Have a nice day tomorrow. (Perhaps you should leave things this way, I bet everybody is relieved not only I have a (secret) mess at home, Karla as well when she is creating…but I admit, this is hard to try)

  15. Sugarwings IS adorable! And every picture is as cute as the last! I can see why you would want to scrap book her pictures! Plus I think it is very special that she gets to paint and do fun crafty/artistic stuff with her Grandma! She is learning to be an artist and making wonderful memories in the process!

  16. I LOVE the tags! I especially love the one you made using ledger paper. My mother was a bookkeeper for my father’s business and I’m now wishing I had saved some of the many books she filled with their business accounts.
I’m a little sad, but so inspired to create something from the handwriting I HAVE managed to save of hers.
Thanks for sharing the pictures ! I’m so glad to have found your blog.

  17. Have a glorious party! For one of those party favors, I’d work contentedly in any mess you happened not to pick up! Just slide over some stuff, find a clean spot and go to it!

  18. Sugarwings is the cutest little girl in the world Karla! A true living doll! LOVE the Wizard of Oz pages, how cool!
Your craft day sounds like so much fun! And in my opinion, craft rooms arent supposed to be clean, lol! LOVE the gifts you made the girls. You are so kind Karla!
LOVE what you did with the speakers!!! I hate seeing technology things around. My husband is an IT Magager, so everything in our home has to be high tech. And black (yuck!!)
    Hugs,
    Amy

  19. Ooooh, wonderful tags! I just found you because I (finally) got my issue of Somerset Life and am in LOVE with those magic wands! You did an amazing job; I’m inspired to make my own immediately! (If I don’t stop to make tags first!)

  20. I love how you staged the speakers! They look fabulous. I thought you had a great idea with the covering – the book and additional throw really make it work.
    Karla

  21. Miss Sugarwings – future artist and crafter like her grandmama!!! What a cutie! Hah….. 😉 AND I see nothing wrong with that craft room, my sweet sugarnana!!!!
    Smoochies,
    Connie

  22. A day loving a grandchild is not frittered away!!! AND now I don’t feel so bad about my studio…LOL!!!

  23. I think you spent your day wonderfully!! That book will be such a precious keepsake for Sugarwings. She is just too darn cute for words!

  24. Karla,
The earrings arrived today and they are fantastic and in one of my favorite colors too! I posted them today with a link back to you. Thanks for an excuse to go shopping! After all, a girl needs a complete outfit to go with her new accessory! Thank you!

  25. This is the best! I don’t feel so alone! I can’t tell you how happy I am to know that I am not the only one who lets the scraps fly where they may!

  26. So glad to know you are a “real” person, Karla. Not that there’s anything wrong with a nicely organized and clean craft room. It’s just not for me. I can create so much better in chaos.
Since finding your blog on “The Vintage Workshop”, my Mother and I have spent hours looking and reading. We did not even know there were others like “us” out there. lol. Thanks for sharing your life with us.

  27. At last, a photo that made me feel normal and at home. 😉 Actually, really looks like you do a lot of crafting! Good job?
Followed a link in her from “My Romantic Home” and just checking you out. Now, my first question- What speakers? Where? Covered in wallpaper? Painted the wire? Good idea. Were they under the chest? Hidden? In plain sight?
Next question- Do the speakers work well after being covered with wallpaper?
    Have fun at your party!

  28. You’re a gal after my own heart. I make such a mess when I scrap – it looks like a tornado lit down! What a little cutie too!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia 🙂

  29. Wow!!!!! You are one talented lady. I was looking at your art work and the adorable things you create. It makes me feel so good after that to see that you are not perfect since your crafting space is a bit on the messy side. The tags are too cute and so is your grand baby. Have a wonderful crafty day.

  30. Hi Karla!
A sweet little package arrived in the mail and it was from you! Thank you for the darling tag! You are so creative Karla. I will treasure it!
Love your craft room! Why is it there’s never enough table space when you’re in the middle of a project?
    Hugs, Sherry

  31. I missed this post yesterday so I was surprised! I love my tag and you shouldn’t have cleaned up before us! Look at that mess we made today! I enjoyed visiting with you girls and look forward to the next one. 🙂

  32. I just have to say that those speakers turned out wonderful. They are perfect, and what a great cabinet you found. Oh my, and Sugarwings. She is so sweet — I love the photo with her having pen coloring on her face — makes me want to kiss that sweet face. Being Grandma, Nana, Nonna, or whatever they call us — this is the BEST time of our lives.
I am always amazed by the fact that you call your day “frittered away” but you’ve gotten more done in that time than I have when I’m trying to accomplish something!!

Oh Karla.. I was laughing just reading this.. because it’s SO ME! I have been known to do just that. Fiddle with silly little things.. when I should be doing something else. (usually something I have coming up soon!.. but no… I’m messing around with something else! But it’s FUN!~
    Right? lol
