Kitties

Gifts 005

Our kitties are venturing out of their nest and exploring a bit. But it is on wobbly legs, and they all still look very confused about the world around them. Although, this tough, little calico has learned to spit and hiss.

There is very little hissing, that is the first I've seen of it so far.  Mostly, we get this dopey look and a little crying.

Out in the yard, we have a bird that can mimic the sound of a baby kitten. I have no idea what kind of bird this is. but it has fooled each and everyone of us into thinking there was a problem with the fur babies and we have at one time or another gone out to find where the poor kitten is trapped and crying for help.  Just to realize it is a bird, not a cat. We all finally compared notes and now know to ignore the tricky bird. (any ideas on what kind of bird that might be?)

Then, last week, I had the studio door open to enjoy the springtime air, and heard that annoying bird crying out for a couple hours.  Ugh.

Till it dawned on me that the sound seemed to be coming from the deck, not the trees. I went up to check on the kittens to find that Punkin had moved two of her children into the litter box and she was just sitting and watching them.  I don't know if she was potty training, or if that was punishment of some kind, or who knows what. But those kitties seemed very happy to be back in their cozy nest after two hours of crying and being stuck in a toilet.

  1. Yep, I bet it’s a mocking bird…they can mimick lots of other birds and other things too…
I really don’t like them very much cause they will lure other birds away from their nest and push eggs
out of nest, then lay their eggs and leave, letting original nest bird to raise the mockingbirds…

  2. Im going to look up a photo then keep an eye out to see if that is what it is. I didnt know they could make a sound like a kitten! It fooled everyone in the family.

  3. We live in Wisconsin and have Cat birds. They sound exactly like a cat. My grandchildren love to listen for them.

  4. I didnt think about catbirds. Weird. I did listen to YouTube videos of mockingbirds sounding like cats, that could be it. Now I need to listen to catbirds too and check that out.
