Over the Rainbow

Leelee_and_dortothy_017 Today is a Sugarwings Day, she and I have been painting rainbows (for her Dorothy doll) and having fairy tea parties.  This kid knows all the words to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and will burst into song at any rainbow she sees.  Trouble is, you can’t understand much of what she is saying, you just hear the word "rainbow" here and there in the song.  I think she sings in Fairy Language.Leelee_and_dortothy_022

Wow, thanks for the kind hearted responses to my mean comment! I really appreciate them all.  I know that there is a big problem in the world with pet over population, but I think the problem leans more towards puppy mills than people like me who have a few little babies that are adored and coddled!

And by the way, there is already a waiting list for Twinkettes, these puppies will have wonderful homes.

I cleaned my studio last night after Sugarwings went to bed and came across this half done drawing, that must have been started 20 years ago and forgotten.  Looks like I had a good start, I wonder why I stopped?  Maybe I’ll do something with it now.Leelee_and_dortothy_020

After looking through the "Where Women Create" magazine, I felt the need to spiff up a bit!  I don’t know when my studio will be photographed, but I wanted to be ready.   I think that anyone who reads this first issue of the magazine will feel the same way and want to dig in and redo something in their work areas.  The pictures are very inspirational!

The changes I made to my room are the tables.  I brought this white table downstairs from the library, where it really wasn’t being used at all, and put away a folding table that I can pull out and set back up when friends come to craft days.

Since this wooden table was shorter than the folding table, I finally had space for this little $3 green table from a garage sale and the chippey pink cabinet from the Sparks and White Cloud flea market.

At first, I was going to paint the table white, but I kind of like it green, since the chair has a green patterned slipcover. What do you think?

Well, I’m off to Curious Sofa’s pre-open house party! Don’t worry, there will be tons of photos!!!   I feel pretty lucky to get an invitation to go to this party. Well, actually, I am tagging along with Carol, she is the one invited.

  1. I love your studio! I can’t wait to see more of it. I would be sooo nervous. I can only imagine how you are feeling about your space being photographed. Sugarwings is adorable. I love her little Dorthy doll. Have fun tonight at the pre-open house party, I will be anxiously waiting to see photos!

  2. Awwww, Sugarwings looks so sweet. She seems very reflective and protective. Now, I will be singing that song all night.
I want to know where you keep all of your little muscle men. Sure you do not move all of this furniture yourself. I still want o know where you get all of this energy from.
Enjoy the party. Nothing wrong with tagging along. The more the merrier.

  3. I vote for keeping the table green. It offsets the shabby decor.
Love that little dollface Sugarwings. She must bring you such joy and what a great grandma you are to lavish her with fairy tea parties and the like.
    Hugs,
    Kerryanne

  4. Karla I love your studio, and I bought that magazine today, but haven’t had time to look at it. The green gives you some contrast, but it would look good either way.
That was a really cute picture of Sugarwings. Enjoy the open house and I can’t wait to see photos.

  8. She is so sweet. I remember those days of Bethany singing in her own tongue 🙂 Love that white table!! I think you should leave the other one green. Have fun tonight, I can’t wait to see pictures!

  9. What a precious photo – she just has this magical look to her. Congratulations on having your studio selected for the mag, and have a wonderful time at the open house and Silver Bella!

  10. Don’t forget to make a video of Sugarwings singing the song. Time flies, before you know she’ll be correcting you lol. I love that picture of her, you really captured the moment. And I love your drawing too, I’m not sure if it still needs much, The dark green for the table isn’t bad, but I’m fond of lighter colors, so a lighter green, like the window or a white would suit me better, but luckily it’s your studio. Have fun at the Curious Sofa!

  14. This may sound hokey, but the pic of Sugarwings is so sweet and looking at it you can feel the love she has for that baby she’s holding. It’s wonderful.

  15. I live the look on Sugarwings’s face in that picture! I have a pic of my dd with a smiliar look – she was at the beach – and a friend said Rachel looked like she was listening to the angels. 🙂

  16. Your studio is wonderful, and personally I like the green table added to the mix of pink and white. Sugarwings is more adorable each time you share a photo. Definitely finish the drawing!

  19. Yikes, I’ve missed reading a lot of your posts these past few days! Everything is beautiful and the photos of Sugarwings are adorable–I love the “Over the Rainbow” singing:)
I want to get a copy of “Where Women Create” so I can be inspired, although I would put your studio up next to any of them as far as inspiration!
Hisses to mean comments! They don’t know you like we know you and I thought you responded beautifully!
Looking forward to Curious Sofa photos:)

  20. Looks like you are up to your usual fun! And don’t you wish there was some sort of meany filter? YOu know, some has so little to do in their life that they leave you a mean comment but the filter just automatically kicks it out? I have only received one, it is the only flaw in a otherwise lovely blogging world!

  21. Such a sweet fairy grandbaby and I think the picture you started looks like Sugarwings as an adult!
At first, that is what I thought you were going for until I read where you started it 20 years ago! Maybe you had a vision?
