Packing up

 Tags may 004

Oh, I am so far behind!  I'm leaving Thursday for Jenn's event- En Le Jardin and had hoped to make up goodies to take to the mini market that Jenn is setting up for us during part of the weekend. But between Sugarwing's Daddy being ill, and a few other unplanned issues, I've got nothing ready.

Some weeks, there just isn't enough time in the days.  Well, most weeks.

I thought I'd make up some tags, some wallpaper packs and then bring a bundle of bling.  Vintage jewels are always a hit!  But, even though I ironed and sorted wallpaper and made up a couple dozen tags, and piled up some old jewels, none of them are quite ready to go.  Pricing and packing are holding me up.

Creating never seems to be the problem, that is the fun part to squeeze in! Its the marketing that gets me.

My revised plan, is to just get my necessities packed and ready to go.  Then, if there is time (and space in the suitcase!), I'll gather up some of these goods and toss them in the bag.

Some how, I doubt there will be time. I have the fairy grand baby for most of this week till I fly away to Atlanta with my good buddy, Carol.

Plus, its a vacation! I don't want to stress out about getting ready.  This is going to be fun and relaxing, I don't think I want to turn it into work.  Plus, its not like these tags will go to waste. I listed a few in my Boutique already, and can add the wallpaper and the rest of the tags when I return from the Deep South.

This trip is something I have been looking forward to for so long, I can't believe that it is already here!  I really do need to pack. I have about 12 hours straight tomorrow with Sugarwings, who can pull things out of a suitcase as fast as it goes in, so I should pack early and get it done tonight after she goes to bed.

She has been so funny this week.  Life  with her has been a parade of one costume after another.  Here she is as "Glenda" from Oz.   Its really just a princess dress from Target, but to her, she is a Good Witch now.   I've had her helping me with potions too, we are making up all natural bug repellent.

I really dislike the smell of citronella, and don't want to use pesticides on her, so here is what I came up with, water in a spray bottle, with some of each of these essential oils plus some no-foam biodegradable soap. I'll let you know if we end up covered and chigger and mosquito bites anyway.

Besides taking care of Sugarwings and her poor, sick Daddy, then making tags and cutting wallpaper after her bedtime, I've done a little sewing.  Yes, I know, I complain about sewing a lot, but I do it anyway. It isn't as if I like the action of doing it, I like the stuff I get out of it.

So, I put up with the stupid machine.

Remember when Scarlett O'Hara made a dress out of drapes? I feel a bit like that, decking out a tee shirt with doilies.

I figured it was appropriate for visiting Georgia.

This one is made from a couple of vintage pictures I downloaded and printed onto fabric and sewed onto the shirt.  I sewed the girl onto the butterfly to create a fairy.

Then, I further goobered it up with dye markers, glitter pens and ribbon. Oh, and a ritzy rhinestone button from my hoarded stash of old buttons.  I hate clothes. I hate shopping for and buying clothes, and really hate packing for a trip.  All I like to wear are tee shirts, so I thought I'd foof a few for the trip.

But on the other hand, I am worrying that I am turning into my mother who used to sew quilt squares and appliques onto her sweat shirts. Scary thought. I love my mom, but I really don't want to dress like her…..

  1. Oh I know what you mean, my mother-in-law loves to sew weird things on sweatshirts, well that was a big rage sometime back. But your T’s look great. You all are going to have way too much fun…
    LOTS OF PICTURES PLEASE
    Hugs, Diane

  2. Oh, how pretty. I love the T-shirts. What a neat idea.
I look forward to pictures from your trip down south. And your camera does take wonderful pictures.

  3. This post so resonates with me. I hate to price, I am afraid of turning into my mom and when the kids need me, all else goes out the window, at least temporarily.
The things you have made, including your T’s are beautiful. Have fun in Georgia. Can’t wait to see all you make, learn and fun times! How nice you have a new camera!

  4. Karla,
The decorated tees look great and will be wonderful in GA. Sure wish I could make the short drive from TN to GA to join in on all the fun. Hope you have a great and relaxing time!

  5. Karla,
Have a great time, you’ll be in heaven with all those creative people. The shirts are darling and they’ll look better on you with your great smile. (Dressmaker forms don’t have as good of a body or personality)
Did you ever wonder why God gave kids more energy than their parents?? I can see why Sugarwings loves to be at your house there is so much to do when she’s there. Very entertaining.
    Relax, have fun and enjoy.

  6. I’m sure you’ll get everything done, you always do! Your tee’s are gorgeous, especially that first one dripping with crocheted lace! Sugarwings is such a little princess with her “potions”. 🙂

  7. Karla,
Down here in mosquito and Dengue central I’ve been using a great natural non-deet product. Has no citranella ( cuz I hate the smell too) it’s call Bite Blocker made with plant oils and extracts. It’s worked well for me and anyone else I given it to. The company is in Clayton NC. the web site is http://www.biteblocker.com I found it in the health food market in Idaho before we moved down here :

  8. Just don’t forget to add some bling with those quilt squares! lol Your shirts turned out real pretty…pack them up and just go have a good time!

  9. Hi Karla: Just wanted to let you know how much I have enjoyed your post on the tags. You are so creative. Your Grandbaby is so cute, she is perfect for dress-up! I was looking at your store. I am looking for vintage, rhinestone, clip earrings. If you have any you would like to sell. Please let me know, they don’t have to be a complete set, I just want them to be rhinestones. Let me know, I love to buy them from you. Enjoy! Martha

  10. Karla, have a wonderful and safe trip.
I LOVE the seambinding on your tees!
    Please take lot’s of pictures!
    🙂

  11. Karla I love what you did to the shirts! The white one is beautiful! I had to crack up at the comment about your moms shirts…my mom used to go to Florida every winter and come home with painted on and blinged out tshirts that she’d make and try to give them to me! Every time I think of doing something to a shirt I think of that! Yours look NOTHING like those though! Have a wonderful well deserved vacation! Can’t wait to hear all about it!

  12. Karla, you are a whirlwind of activity! Love those teashirts.. especially the white one.. have fun at Jenns retreat! I would have loved to go.. but it is definitely not in my budget this year! but in a month I will be in Canada with a bunch of blogger girls! cant wait!
have a great week and a great trip to Jenns!
    hugs

  13. Oh my….. the T-shirts are fabulous. But I’m not surprised.
Will you have any free time while you are at Jenn’s? You will be less than 30 miles from my town, Warner Robins. I would love to meet you “in Person”. If not, I will be sending good vibes north so you are sure to have a wonderful weekend.
My advice… drink plenty of sweet tea and don’t pass up any peach cobbler.

You forgot the addition of puff paint with those t-shirts your mom used to make. We ALL used puff paint in bright garish colors and it always cracked and peeled after putting it in the dryer! These beautiful t’s you made bear no resemblance to those others at all! Have a wonderful time! – Kathy in Chicago

  15. That’s funny about turning into your mom — sometimes I wonder if I’m doing that, too!
Your executive assistant is most charming in her princess gown and I love the tags you have. I hate pricing, too. Or just finishing… But I know it will go very well!

  16. I love your new shirts! Very cute! Did you use a certain fabric transfer? that is where I have gotten stuck, I have gotten a couple of not so good ones and haven’t invested in them since. Have fun on your trip! karen…

  17. Sorry to hear everyone is sick!! I hope you don’t catch it! The shirts turned out cute and I so love the tag with the seahorse:) Have fun in Georgia (I think that’s where it is) the blog for the event looks awesome!!

  18. Oh Karla! You always make it sound like you are so crazed, but you always get everything done and done beautifully. Your tee shirts are gorgeous! They say we do usually turn into our mother’s. By the time you get there, you’ll be okay with it. You’re just in the baby steps part right now. Sugarwings will hold you back as long as she can. You have style in all you do. You’ll never lose that!!

  19. I hate shopping, too! Which is pretty strange since I spend so much time going to sales. Maybe we like shopping but don’t like stores? Anyway – try to relax and enjoy your vacation!

  20. I LOVE the tee shirts you dressed up, they ae adorable! You should do more, more, more!! You are so inspirational, it just makes my wheels start to turn!! What do I have in the closet that I can transform??
Have fun in Georgia and take lots of pictures!

  21. Karla, I just love these inspirational posts with lots of eye candy. You have a wonderfull time and take lots of pictures. Even if I can’t attend these fuctions I really enjoy seeing all the wonderful photos. Almost, but not quite, as good as being there.
    Hugs karen

  22. Hi Karla,
Just love watching your adventures with your “Sugarwings”, she is so cute. Aren’t those times with our little girl babies just the “best”? So blessed are we, and sooo tired, right. Ha. I love the tee shirt ideas. The white one is sooo pretty. Have a great time on your trip. Sounds like so much fun. Your new camera is great! Linda

  23. LOL! Dressing like your mom–I had to get an outfit for a courthouse wedding some years ago…so off hubby and I went…I grabbed a really pretty skirt and top…went into the dressing room. Looked okay in the mirror…walked out and found hubby…and oh dear..looked down…when did I start dressing like mom????? We both shook our heads.
Maybe a tut on the doilies and white t shirts?
