I received my advanced copy of Somerset Life and it is delicious! The best Easter treat that I got this weekend!
I was so happy to see so many of my favorite bloggers featured in it and can’t wait to fill up the tub with bubbles and take a nice long soak to read this cover to cover.
My collaged business card was used in one shot, and I was surprised and happy to see that! My collage kits (inspired by my Sissy) are on pages 52-54
And my framed vintage doll dress is on 126.
But my favorite thing about the whole magazine (of course, I haven’t read it all yet, mostly I have just looked through it), is the article by Jenny Holiday. What she has to say about blogging expresses my feelings so exactly, that I could just hug her.
There is also a GREAT article by my pal "The" Heather (a joke she and I have, I always add "the" to her name), Heather Bullard. (page 18-21).
And a photo from my pal, Natasha is on page 132.
And who doesn’t love to read anything that Sandra writes? She is on 76, and 96-97. There are TONS of our favorite bloggers and artists in this issue, it’s a good one!
Heather is in multiple magazines out right now and so is Sandra. My BBF, Beth, had this to say "I think its so interesting that blogs are really the trend setters and the magazines are reporting on it." and I believe that she has something there. Aren’t blogs fascinating? No wonder you see so much of what is going on in the blog world and in blogger’s home printed into magazines any more. We are now getting double the pleasure, getting to read the blogs on a regular basis with in depth stories and then see the featured articles in magazines that we can tear out and save (You all have those files don’t you? The torn out pictures of what you’ll do someday? Don’t we all???)
I worked on a proposed article and a second secret project today with my photographer/artist friend, Diane Guthrie.
No details yet, on the project we shot today, I’ll let you know when I know! Here is some of the ideas involved, I am taking some of my artwork and using glazes and crackle finishes on copies of it.
I am going to be in a local art show this spring, here in Lawrence and hope to get a few of these made up to sell. That hydrangea is one of my favorite paintings that I have ever done.
And since I painted this one in my mom’s hospital room as I was keeping her company in her last few weeks, I can’t sell it. But, I have found a way to make attractive copies and sell those.
I hope to list some in my Etsy shop soon too, but the days seem to be getting away from me, and I just can’t quite keep up with everything I want to get done.
And why can’t I keep up with my work anymore? Well, look at this sweet little face and see why I get so distracted! When she tilts her chin up and looks at me that way, there is no way on Earth I can go to my studio and work, I have to scoop her up in my arms and go play a game or sing a song. Work will always be waiting for me later…..
Which reminds me, I am still working on birdhouses for the big, blingy, birdhouse bash on Thursday. Hope to see you there!
You are welcome to add the birdhouse button to your blog if you’d like. If you don’t have a blog, please post pics to Flickr. (An account is free and VERY easy to set up)
HI Karla, great news on Somerset Life.
So many bloggers featured. Will have to see if we have it here in Australia otherwise I might have to try and organise a subscription somehow.
Love that pic of Sugarwings – you just can’t create when you need to play.
have a great week
Alison
Karla, i just may have to buy that issue of Somerset…it sounds like a really good one…LOVE the picture of Sugarwings, she certainly does have a cute little tilt to her head…irresistible:) and my word!!! how many birdhouses are you doing??? see you thursday!!!
How fun! Can’t wait till the new issue hits the stands here! And by the way, Sugarwings has such an expression — I’m quite sure she’s an angel on a mission!
Hi Karla, Too bad we cannot buy these magazines over here…no Romantic homes, no Somerset life or other Somerset publications, but I’m glad I can take a peek in those magazines in your and other peoples blogs. I think you make the right choice to play or sing with Sugarwings if she looks like that…ah work can wait, little girls just don’t!
I need that magazine! What fun! I do love blogging for that reason too. I don’t know why I can’t seem to find time to read all the magazines I want to but I do find time to read the blogs! Go with that cute face and play! You are right everything else will still be there when you are done. I am ready for the party on Thursday!
I think it’s so cool to look in the magazines now and see so many familar faces! It feels like I’m back in high school and I get to hang out with the “in” crowd!
I LOVE that hydrangea painting! I would buy one of those for sure! Your stairs are amazing too!
And Sugarwings…I don’t think you could find a little girl cuter than that! What a doll!
Sugarwings is such a cutie pie 🙂 The painting is wonderful, too!
I have never heard of that magazine….so I will have to do some research.
Have the Best of Days! Rosie
I can’t wait. I just read the last one cover to cover and was thrilled to see you in there. Little sugar wings is getting a big girl pretty face. The girls look lovely in their Easter dresses. Hope you had a great weekend. I have not had time to participate in bling your birdhouse, but I will be watching!!!

3:57pm saw me hot glue the last item to my BLINGED TO THE MAX birdhouse…Hi Karla.
I also decided to create a nest for one of the birds i got for my birthday. Now we need to set up the Flickr.
Wow, happy for you and the new issue of Summerset Life. Even if you’re not actually in your Studio creating -you’re not only creating memories for you and Sugarwings, your subconsious is in the process of creating as you play and take time to be with that delightful LOOK. One of the things I’m hoppy for this year is that I am living with my hubby.
No one could resist that little face.
Blessings to you~
Cathy

Well, it seems I really NEED this magazine. Hope you enjoyed a good soak!
Congraulations to you. She is beyond words adoreable.
Hello Karla, Im excited about the bling your bird house event…Cant wait!!! Siobhan
It’s suppose to be a little bit before bedtime and so i decided to click on your cupcake in the upper right corner and saw the words SILVER BELLA and went looking back in your archives…what a hoot you bringing a strange man into the hotel room AND you describing all of your new goodies and those yummy rings you found for $7 each…and the leftovers from the projects! Chances are I’ll be going back to that section to dream of one day being a Silver Bella Girl. Happy Wednesday to you.
I think that blogging has made reading magazines even more exciting because you actually know the people. I have to look for this one, I read many of the people that you mentioned, and I just love Natasha Burns and Jenny! Well, thanks for all the lovely creative energy, and I can’t wait ’til tomorrow. Blessings, Karen
Oh Karla..thant sweet little face would distract me from work also! She is a doll! Everything in this post is gorgeous. I love that little framed butterfly with the sheet music in the background!!
Hopefully things will slow down around here, so I can play along with you guys, one of these times.
Hope you had a nice Easter!!
I have never heard of that magazine but it sure looks wonderful! And I want to tell you that I absolutely LOVE the flowers painted on the staircase! That is just amazing!
I knew you had some things that Somerset was using but didn’t realize you’d be in there so much!!! Beth is absolutely right. I see magazines report on bloggers all the time! It’s because the ideas are so fresh…they are “published” online immediately and continually. It’s much faster than magazines can print them. And there are so many ideas out there! That is also exciting news that you’ll be in a show! I’m jealous! 😉
Hi Karla, from someone with the same name and state. I just “discovered” Somerset Life this past weekend and was glad to find your blog listed. I’ve enjoyed seeing your work in the other magazines (and didn’t you have a space at Mission Road?). Now I can visit you regularly at your blog to see what you’re up to in between issues! I can’t wait for the next issue of Somerset Life to hit the stands (I’m a magazine fanatic and haunt Barnes and Noble because they seem to get copies first around here) and I ordered the previous issue. Thanks for sharing your talents with us. Between that issue of Somerset Life and the article on Cindy’s Romantic Home blog in the most recent issue of Romantic Country Homes I was inspired to give blogging a try. It seems like a great way to meet some really creative and vibrant women.
Karla!
You are such a doll!! Here’s a big ((hug)) right back atcha!! My article was so not a “ME” article..it was meant to be an “US” piece. All of blogland deserves a huge hug..and a high five! I cannot imagine life without blogs!
And my goodness..YOU and your blog/art/world are just such an inspiration! What a party you are!! 🙂
Thanks so so much for all that you share!
Lots of love!!
xoxo Jenny Holiday
