Its a beautiful Sunday morning at my Kansas Cottage, no road construction sounds thumping away in front of my house, a light breeze is blowing and the sun is glowing.
I can’t think of a more pleasant way to spend a sunny Sunday than scrubbing dog barf out of my rugs.
I love to collect these old hooked rugs, but they are hard to keep clean, they can’t just be thrown into the washer. I live with a houseful of men and three dogs, so these rugs get dirty. Since I had to wash the dog mess out of one, I thought I’d bring all the brown looking kitchen rugs out to liven them back up.
To clean them, I line them along my slanted sidewalk and spray them with a hose.
This might sound weird, but I really enjoy watching the dirt wash away and the rugs slowly turn back to their vibrant colors. It is almost the feeling I get when painting and watching the picture develop under my brush. I know, wierd, but hey, ife is all about the simple pleasures!
Now, back to my Sunday paper and coffee on the porch.
I’m so jeleouse of your house and beautiful decorations. The wire planter is so neat.
Karla,
You brought a chuckle to my morning. I would love to see more pictures of the outside of your house. The area with the red paint looks so interesting. I That the front of your house?
I know what you mean about the feeling you get when you clean your rugs. I wouldn’t have thought about hosing them off. I thought they would have to be dry cleaned, which is very expensive to do on an ongoing basis. Who knew?

For a minute there I was wondering if we were going to get a picture of it!! ROFL! We woke up to cat barf this morning, so I can commiserate. Good thing they’re so cute, huh?
Nothing better than a post about dog barf to start off Sunday! Thanks for sharing 🙂
PS Love that Twinkle!
Karla, Yep no dogs but the cat sure can make a mess! Never fails just get to bed so tired, can barely moved, and of course she coughs up her usual mess of fur! Hope I’m not making you sick! So anyway if you should see me this evening with a carpet and hose on my drive-way I took you up on your idea!!! Also the table is adorable and lets see…the cookies sure would be good with a large mug of coffee! love ya, Lori
I love my old rugs too and also love washing them and I thought I was the only strange one! Can see you need to shift a doggie to get back in that gorgeous chair! Rachaelx
HELLO KARLA:) How nice to meet you today! Thank you for your comment it brought me over here to you and what a beautiful place you have and how talented you are! I had to laugh at the barf on the rug….My lab has been known to leave us a morning surprise once in awhile:)I bet our surprises are bigger then the ones your leetle yorkie leave you? but love those dowgs anyway! keep in touch & I’ll do the same:)
I’m sorry about the doggie barf, but I think your Rocky Mountain Bee Plant (Cleome) is really pretty along the walkway.
I have a rug very similar to the pink one, only mine has a tan background. I do machine wash mine and hang it out.

I think in their own little way those dogs are simply ‘painting’ your rugs. They want to be like mom.
When I saw the title of your post – I thought you were going to have a photo of dog barf LOL! I hate keeping rugs clean – in fact, I have to replace our living room area rug because the dog drags in so much dirt and grass – it is beyond repair now but that is what I get for choosing a light color! Of course, hubby walking around in his yard shoes doesn’t help!

I can fully understand the satisfaction you must feel when you return those rugs to their pristine condition.
Any one of those hooked rugs would be considered a prize at my house. They look wonderful all in a row having a bath.

LOL Oh dear! Those vintage items are tough to keep clean.
Nothing weird at all. Who DOESN”T love watching the dirt run out of their rugs! You would be surprised how many of us enjoy just the same things. (And no, I am not kidding! LOL) In my case it is cat barf though.
Lol lol lol! What a quaint and special thing to share! LMAO~ I’m sorry, but your title caught me off gaurd and I just had to laugh and laugh and laugh!!!
Okay I have old rugs and never though of this to clean them. I will have to try it. We are in for warm weather and no rain for a few days, perfect timing. Thank you !!!! Clarice
it’s a great way of looking at life when dog barf can bring you happiness, lol!
I make hooked rugs, i clean them by throwing them out in a good snow storm, let them get covered then sweep the snow off. brightens em right up.
