Well, this photo kind of sums up my trip so far- Yummy!
This pie is actually a special recipe by Jack Nickolaus, that is only served a couple weeks at year at Firestone Country Club, when the PGA tournament is playing there.
Of course, I had to order some! And yes, it is as good as it looks, creamy, with a coconut crunch.
I don’t and NEVER will play golf, but I can certainly enjoy the beauty of the courses and the gourmet food and pampering service you find at a private club! Firestone was particularly interesting because they were getting ready for the PGA event. There was not a blade of grass out of place anywhere.
We have had a lovely time so far, but one of the best parts was when my husband surprised me with a bouquet of my favorite flowers.
We’d seen Queen Anne’s Lace growing in the ditch beside a restaurant we were stopping at (no, not at a golf course NO WEEDS there!!!)
He snuck back out side and picked some, then had the waitress set them on the table without me knowing.
As much as I adore roses, this lacey weed, will always be the prettiest flower to me. And now even more so.
But I am simply not cut out for a life of luxury and hanging out at country clubs or shopping while my husband works. By day 3 of my trip, I was ready for something to do, and stopped at Michaels to pick up some art supplies for in the hotel room.
The trouble was, I didn’t have my work glasses with me. So, the paintings I did had to be VERY simple, since I couldn’t see the details well.
But, you know, simple is fine, and not every painting needs to be a "serious" one. Watercolors can be quick and cute.
These are all about 4"x 6" and I think will trim down to fit into a 3"x5" matt nicely.
When I get home from my trip, I might list them on Etsy for, what, maybe $10 each?
If you’d like one, feel free to leave a comment or email and I will save it for you, $10, no postage. the dove, long pink gown, teacup with the dark background, and the two pink cupcakes are sold, thanks!
I can’t mail them till I get back though.
The whole trip has just been the best, and Karlapalooza was such fun! In case you were worried, you’ll be happy to hear that Lori found her hat full of flowers and it is a beautiful one, lots of old velvet blooms!
And isn’t she cute as a little pixie, herself?
I’ll have more flea market photos later, and pictures of Sweet Heather’s sweet house. By the way, Heather has to be about one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. She was a joy to talk to.
We had a fun day of chatting and shopping, with Heather’s mom, Kitty, and her friend, Stephanie, then Heather fixed a tasty lunch at her home for us. There will be photos, I promise. Her home is as warm and welcoming as she is.
And if you are looking for a macaroni salad recipe, I’d say ask Heather! Hers was really good.
Like I said before, a YUMMY TRIP!
Sounds like your having a great time! The pie looks yummy and the flowers are pretty! We use those in the flower shop all the time , there very pretty !Come back home soon!
I’ve been a lurker for awhile now but I have to comment on how wonderful your blog is! I just sent you an email about purchasing one of your cupcake watercolors. I’m so excited to own a piece of your artwork!!!!!!!! Enjoy the rest of your trip !
Oh Karla it looks like you are having a wonderful trip. What a romantic gesture from your hub. He’s a keeper for sure. I think your little painting are very cute despite the art glasses. You should do more!!
I can’t tell you how bummed I was that I couldn’t join you ladies. I’m sure it was a superb visit!! Heather and Kitty are such sweet and fun people – I’m sure you were welcomed like a long lost friend!
And Queen Anne’s Lace = happy childhood moments for me – we used to experiment all summer with food dye tinting them. And I love a big messy bouquet of it on the kitchen counter. Your DH gets such bonus points for bringing some for your table. That sounds like a scene from a movie!
Your watercolors are charming, better than most of us can do WITH glasses!
Have fun on the rest of your trip!
Pie, green grass, art, hats and lunch with friends…….sounds like Karlapalooza is going to be a trip to remember.
I like to take projects with me too. I have created a little “emergency” art/craft travel kit. I can grab it in a hurry.I have paper, stamps, glue, ribbon, and odds and ends to create with. You should make one too, Karla.

yep, pleats! i don’t think you tweaked this in photoshop Karla, i thought we talked about that…LOL…
that golf course looks gorgeous! and the pie sounds just yummy!!
i’m glad you had such a good time at Heather’s, i am so bummed that i did not get to go!!
your paintings are delightful!!! i love them all:)
Beautiful Karla! I always bring craft supplies with me…my paints are in an old picnic basket! Somehow it’s just more fun to paint out of that! My husband teases me though…especially if I bring the sewing machine. One time, after he shook his head, he asked me if I would like him to pack the scroll saw too, just in case I wanted to do some woodworking! I love him for putting up with me!

Mmm just had dinner but seeing that pie picture makes me hungry again. Just like your story and pictures makes everybody feel sorry not having a name like ‘karla’ someway or the other. Oooh that must have been fun! I like that picture of Lori. She is such a nice person!
Your artwork is gorgeous as always!
I KNOW we’re sisters because I HAVE to always bring something with to do. For me, it’s usually some hand sewing because if it was altered art, I’d just have to bring way to many supplies! I knew you gals would have a wonderful time. LOL at the kitty karla! The Karlapalooza might just have to be an annual event for you ladies. Your little paintings are sweet. I love the pic of sugarwings at the nursing home. So special. I can just imagine the faces that lit up! I also LOVE your large birdcage and can just imagine all the things that little honey thinks should live in there! Children are such a joy.
The pie looked wonderful. I love anything with coconut or nuts. What a sweetie pie your husband is to get you those flowers! Another great memory! It sound like you have had a great time and can’t wait to see more photos. Have a wonderful Monday.

Karla sweet chick, my son just came back from 10 days golfing in Scotland at St. Andrews and loved it. HOWEVER, he said he’d never do it again alone; he missed his wife and kids too much and it just wasn’t the same thing going on vacation without anyone along. We’re planning a family cruise in 3 years to Mexico! I’ll go anywhere I don’t have to fly!!!
But that pie looks like coconut and that’s my absolutely favorite pie!
I’m hoping you have those little paintings for sale in your etsy, chick! Daaaaarrling………

That golf course looks gorgeous! The ones around here are always so brown this time of year and of course flowers are never around.
I want to buy the painting of the long gown dress! I’m just redoing my daughter’s room in princess theme and that would look so cute on her wall!
