That elusive ZONE

IMG_3540

Today, I was in The Zone.  I was at my desk for about 12 hours with no interruptions and nothing to do but make stuff. While still in my jammies. Dogs at my feet, a box of Cliff bars nearby, a stack of ephemera to sift through and create with, what could be better?

These kind of days don't come along often. The kind where you think you might need to get up to turn down the air conditioner and never get around to it. The kind of day when you think that maybe you need to get up for a glass of water, and two hours later realize that you forgot and are thirsty enough to drink glue.  The kind of day when you know you have a million errands to run and that you figure you'll make just one more thing before you do them…. and a few hours later, you just admit that the chores are going to wait till tomorrow.

These are the kind of days that I treasure because I know they are rare.  Usually life gets in the way of slipping into the zone, dinner needs to be fixed, or laundry folded, appointments kept.  Not today.

Today, I made stuff.

I felt like I sat down to work about 3 hours ago, not 12.  That is what The Zone is all about. Losing yourself in your work.  It doesn't matter what you make, its just making it.

Tonight, I'm stiff and tired and I think I might stink (remember the air conditioner that I never turned down?).  But what a day!!

Hi Karla….”Jammie” days are ALWAYS good days!!! And if I have some Mint Milanos handy, so much the better. Have a great week. Patty in Kansas

  3. Ooooooh I just love those kinds of days! Me too… going going going… doggie at the feet and Odwalla bars close by! Music always playing… drinking lots of water too… bathroom breaks are about all there is. It’s wonderful! I’m so glad you’re having fun.

  4. What a wonderful day Karla! Glad you had it. I spent about 10 hours on Friday making stuff. And we were on vacation in the Colorado mountains. I just don’t think it gets any better!

  6. Hey Karla you got into your Vortex!!! (Abraham-Hicks on youtube) That’s exactly what i was talking about on the way to Indiana! You didn’t age for 12 hours!!! Amazing you should have another one of those days!! I will keep sending Adam over to rub your neck while you stay in your Vortex!!! LOL

  7. I love those days! But, they are always weird to me. Seriously, how can so much time pass in the blink of an eye but waiting 20 minutes for the doctor takes EONS!! Also, that Dorothy looks suspiciously like Sugarwings. Just an observation. ;o)

  9. Hi Karla,
I LOVEed your post – it made me smile because I know just what you’re talking about. Because of my job, the days when I can escape and get in “the zone” are rare indeed! Hope it was wonderful for you!

  10. Oh, that sounds so absolutely fabulous! I’m happy you were able to really enjoy it! I hope to get some hardcore creating done tonight after work and after I workout, cause I need to do that, too! LOL!

  11. I’ve been planning on zoning like that ever since hubby left on business. He comes home today & I still haven’t gotten a chance. 🙁 But hey….my house is clean & I’ve done some redecorating.
Still….wonder if hubby would mind if I put him up in a hotel for the night. ;o)

  12. LOVE IT!
I can totally relate! I had one of those days yesterday. With 2 little ones, I sure couldn’t go 12 hours, but mixed it up all day. It was a day of creating for sure. I’d find myself saying, “Just let me do this one more thing and I’ll put the rest away.” Then I’d be working on just one more little thing!
Today I need to make up for it by cleaning. I started….then decided to just check my email, which lead to blogs, which lead to Etsy, which lead back to blogs! Now my kids are asking to go out. I’ll get the cleaning done eventually. One thing for certain, it’ll always be there!
Glad you had such a great day!
    Jill

WOW ! You go Karla ! This is what being an artist is all about ! When you’d rather CREATE, THAN EAT OR DRINK !
This is what makes us Artists who we are when we are C-R-E-A-T-I-N-G !
Ah ! No better high, or drugs, or anything than that, doing what we are made to do !
Yeah, I ‘ve had moments like these, they are rare, but so rewarding when they come along…and its amazing to see the “after” when we’re done !
Your work is amazing ! I feel one of these ZONE DAYS … coming…any day now ! 🙂
    Love it all.

  15. LOL! I love the stink line!! hehehe! Whenever our son asks if he can do something, ie-ride his bike, go swimming, something like that, we always say “do you smell funny?” Not sure why but it is a family thing and he just giggles and says “NO!”, so your line reminded me of that!!

  16. Can you loan me some of “the zone”? I can’t seem to step through the studio door without an interruption lately. Glad you had a zone kind of day!
