Time flies

Sbella_booth_090 Silver Bella is getting closer and I am happy to say it looks like I will be ready in plenty of time to take a week off and go to DC with my husband! Right now, all of the things I am making are just "gravy" on top of everything else that is ready to go.Sbella_booth_091

This morning, I took a break and made this bracelet for myself, from some old watches I have been collecting. On one, I took out the ‘guts’ and replaced them with a teeny millinery flower.  Sbella_booth_095

Some of the watches were made into pieces to sell to. Sbella_booth_093

This necklace seems appropriate for Silver Bella, doesn’t it look like the watch is wearing a tiara?Sbella_booth_092

This one is much simpler, but still pretty, I think.Sbella_booth_096

That is the end of my jewelry making for 2008, I’m pretty sure. I have all the tools and supplies packed away and am moving on to the next thing, as the year winds down, I’ll be concentrating on holiday decor items.

But while I was still playing jewelry (as Sissy and I always call working with our baubles) I remade the crown charm that I wanted to wear to Silver Bella.  I’d made this bird pendant from one of Sissy’s plates at a craft day in her kitchen a couple years back.  All I did to it this morning was  add some of her special, antique blue topaz stones and the crown dangling charm with pearls.

Maybe I will wear it on a ribbon.  Sbella_booth_089

I’ve also made up a few tags, this fairy one is from the label I created for my milk bath salts.

And I am wrapping up vintage trims to take with me to Omaha to sell too.  Beth gave me a few of these cute shoe tags and I am twisting trims around those and tying them up with ribbons and flowers.Sbella_booth_088

Have you ever tried printing images on holographic paper? This photo doesn’t do it justice, the paper is so sparkling and pretty.  I am using pictures I print on to this to wrap my vintage bits of trim around too.Pumpkinpatcho8_001

Sugarwings needed some new duds, and one pair of pjs came with this tag on it.  How could I just throw it away?Sbella_booth_087_2

Well, of course, I couldn’t toss it!  I covered it in pink, flocked wallpaper, aged the edges in silver ink and used black crystals for the eyes and nose.

Sometimes, I am as excited about the tags that come on new clothes as I am about the clothes themselves.  The tags are great raw materials to make into something, usually good shapes and heavy duty papers.Pumpkinpatcho8_042

Yesterday was a perfect Kansas autumn afternoon. We took Sugarwings to the pumpkin patch and ate fresh roasted corn on the cob and hot kettle corn harvested right there from the farm we were visiting.  Food doesn’t get much more delicious than that.Pumpkinpatcho8_020

Her Hippy Chick Mommy was on the hunt for the perfect pumpkin to decorate at a pumpkin carving party she is going to.Pumpkinpatcho8_048

But our little Care Bear was judging pumpkins for their fit as a slide or as a  horsey.

Today is just as beautiful as yesterday was, and I need to get outdoors and enjoy what is left of the sunshine! Twinkle and I will be working in the garden, cleaning it up for winter.

  1. Your watch bracelet and necklace are soooo cute and totally unique…and like you weren’t already oozing creativity…you come up with a way to recycle a Carter’s tag. Love it!

  2. Such pretty things to look at. You are quite talented and have a very unique imagination when comes to your creations. I admire that. Pumpkin hunting is such a fun thing to do. Reminds me that I need to get my kiddos out there doing that soon too.
    Have a great day.

  5. I really enjoyed this post Karla! The watch bracelets and necklace, the holographic printed tag, the photos of Sugarwings *love that nickname*. But believe it or not, what I REALLY liked, was how you covered that tag with wallpaper and made it into the cutest ever tag!

  6. Those watch bracelets are great. I happened to be on the hunt for those last weekend, but I found only one and was planning to alter it, but now that I have seen this…I’m going to be on a hunt like never before, thanks for inspiration!
Sugarwings and her mum look adorable on the pumpkin pictures.
    I have rated you!

  7. I’m loving that “simpler” piece of jewelry! But the Teddy bear tag is soo adorable! Now, I hope my grandkids need sleepwear so I can confiscate the tags!

  8. Oh, man! I love the multi-face watch bracelet! The necklace is gorgeous, too! I am a lover of all things clock, so these just jumped right out at me!

  9. The watch jewelry is absolutely fabulous. I’ve seen watches at sales and always wondered what to do with them. Now I know! Cute pumpkin patch pictures…what fun!

  11. Hi Karla! Great jewelry! And you inspire me so, I did my first decorated bottle today, it is so good to be using some of the stuff I have been collecting for so long (I always knew it was useful for something, I just didn’t know what). So the bottle is nearly done, and I have made the start of some pretty cat tags to put on my baby’s Christmas gifts. So nice to see your family pumpkin-slide hunting! It is the best time of the year! Your Friend, Bobbi

  12. I love your watch jewelry! It reminds me of the song ‘About Watches’ written by Mattie Stepanek and sung by Billy Gilman on his Music Through Heartsongs CD.

  13. Gosh, I’ve been out of town…and just got on blogging this p.m., and I have to say I just love your blog. It’s always so, glitzy, pretty, shiny, and best of all fu-fu! I just love it, and it inspires me to do something creative. It also makes me want to move back to KS so it would be easy for me to attend Silver Bella!

  14. My mouth is hanging open…I am in love with the watch necklace and bracelet. You are one amazing crafter. I would have never thought of that in a million years. LOVELY! Kara

I have to second Lili M’s thought–Lele and her mum sure are adorable! I’m so glad Cait organized the outing for us. The weather turned out just perfect for Lee’s adoring cadre of adults to follow her around the farm!

  20. Sweet Cottage Dreams

You just amaze me with all of the lovely things you make and how you reinvent them for new uses. Cute bear tag, too!
Now how cute is Sugar Wings taking rides on the pumpkins? What a cutie! Her momma looks to have found the perfect pumpkin!!
How did Twinkle do in the yard? Duhgall would love Twinkle!!
    Happy day,

  21. Karla-
love all the jewelry bits, especially the watch bracelet. I also use clothing tags (especially baby tags) for a free version of green/recycled art. makes me feel good about creating something lovely from something that would normally get tossed 🙂

  22. Gretchen Schaumann

Love the watch items. I have quite a stash of these that I’ve been collecting for years, and plan to get to them once Emily’s room is completed.
It’s amazing what the tags on clothing are like. I’ve got a stash of these to that I recycle and use when doing altered art. It’s training the eye to see junk repurposed, isn’t it. The teddy bear tag is adorable. Love what you do with wallpaper.
Nice to see your lovely post after being away from it for a week. I have lots of catching up to do. Your items for Bella are awesome. I just love the birdie necklace you’ve created for yourself. I’m smitten with birds. Great designs.
    Gretchen

  23. Karla, seeing your fab creations just makes the waiting for Silver Bella all the harder! Can’t wait to meet you and shop your space, too! I love you style. I don’t know how you get SO MUCH DONE! I had grandchildren living with me, and I barely took a bath alone for over a year. You must be very disciplined.
Anyway, see you soon in OMAHA!
