Treats and sweets

Before everyone arrived last weekend, I stocked the Treat Cabinet up.  And then, Lori and Andrea both brought goodies, so we were set for sweets. Aren't these petite fours from Lori so pretty?  I saved one for Sugarwings and she was properly impressed.

I love having the Treat Cabinet in my studio.  It makes everything look even tastier, plus its great storage.  Its just a big wardrobe that I put two small tables inside, and covered with table cloths. Under the tables, I can keep extra cups, plates, refills, etc.

And above, I keep wallpaper. Delicious, delightful, wallpaper!

I plan on decorating the cabinet in a birdie theme at the end of the month for Bird Song.  The room will be full to the brim, so I'm not doing centerpieces. I've got lots of birdie type things, tho, so they will go into the cabinet and on our buffet in the kitchen.

The glittered fairies should probably come down, to be replaced with birds, but I sure like them hanging there, so I don't know.  My problem is always editing.  I tend to have everything out at once, and show no restraint.  And I know its cluttery and tacky and over the top, but man, it sure is ME. The tacky, cluttery, gaudy, glittery, fairy decorator.

What a mess.

IMG_9852 After reading "Romantic Prairie Style" and also visiting Carol's serene home, I'm feeling even gaudier.  The book inspired me to redo my bathroom, and I started painting it last night. My goal was to go all white on white.

Well, it didn't happen.  I'll show you photos later this week.  The project kinda morphed into gaudiness.

And I'll have project photos tomorrow.

For now I need to announce the winner of my Moulin Rouge Souvenir from my trip to LA.  I forgot to tell you before, because I was having too much fun with my buddies visiting.

Ruth Flowers (what a pretty name!)

  1. karla` I say you stick with your style, it is a very “Collectic Romantic Prairie Style” and it just wouldn’t be Karla’s place any other way… Your a trend setter~ oxox, Diane

  2. Ruth Flowers is my Momma. She will be so excited that she won. We love your blog and always call each other and talk about what Karla is “showing and telling” on her blog.
And I love your treat cabinet. I’ll bet everything that comes out of it tastes divine. I so want to learn how to make petite fours.

  3. Karla,
I cannot believe in less than a month I will be gorging myself on treats, wallpaper & millinery! OMG, please don’t change things too much, I want the surreal experience of walking into a magazine layout! BTW, if everyone had prairie style it would be so boring. Lisa

Well Karla, I’ve seen Jen’s house in Romantic Homes, and was extremely depressed for monthes afterwards. Her house is amazing, and full of family heirlooms. Then there’s Carol’s house, serene, prarified gorgeousness. Then there’s YOUR home, which has ever so much character, and it looks ever so fun and fabulous and comfortable. Let’s be real… your house is the party-krafting-let’s-get- inspired-let’s-have-lots-of-fun home. Beautiful–but not too perfect/intimidating. Cozy, but not stuffy, and who wouldn ‘t melt with the knowledge that wonderful treats await all who enter there? I seriously wish I could attend Bird Song, because I know you are a generous hostess and I’d love to see your home. Frankly, although I’d love to attend Jen’s event, I know I would be terribly intimidated. I have a feeling you’ll be doing this again, maybe even before next year. And if you do, I’ll be there.

  5. Oooh I’m so happy , I won I won ,
I will treasure Thad lovely creation.
Thank you Karla. I will mail my adress.

  6. You gotta be who you gotta be. Every time I think I’m going to lighten up, the room morphs into jewel tones.

  7. Hi Karla, I know what you mean about not being able to do a whole lost “less” with decorating. Your style is so beautiful and expresses who you are. So, keep it real, I guess. I struggle with these same issues and the desire to be “current” and yet hold tight to the items I love and enjoy. I try to remember it is MY home and not someone else’s…. of course I have to also think of my man, ha, but he is pretty much flexible with whatever I want to do. Your studio looks so goregeous and I can’t wait to see it in person. My work is especially hectic right now, so it is not leaving a lot of time to do the blogging thing. But I am really looking forward to meeting you in person later this month. Have a great day!

  8. Karla, your cupboard is adorable, don’t appologize for all the treasure’s. I love the way this looks, I too, am trying to go all white in certain rooms, and have decided I am tired of appologizing for all my ideas and treasures that I like to decorate with,as long as I am not featured on “the “Hoarding” channel,or show?, I won’t be concerened quite yet!
Have a great day! Celeste, thevictoriantailor.blogspot.com
