Where does the day go? Putzing and puttering and then Poof- its over!

Boat_cleaning_011 I don’t know about you, but it seems to me that the days are getting shorter.  I know, I know, Spring is here and the sunlight is lasting longer, but why don’t the days last long enough for me to ever get caught up?

Could it be that I putz around the antique malls and shops too much?  I did that this morning while waiting for Sugarwing’s Daddy to get out of the dentist’s office.

Boat_cleaning_009 I gave him a ride, mailed my packages, (thanks for your Etsy purchases by the way!! I appreciate it!!), ran some errands, then had a few minutes to kill, and of course, since I heard the siren call of a $7 floral bonnet, I couldn’t resist!Boat_cleaning_027

I was glad I popped into the mall, I got two bags of broken bits of vintage goodness for $3 each.  Loads of flower power in these jewels.

Boat_cleaning_001_2 Then, Sugarwings and her Daddy helped me clean out our boat after it’s long winter of dust and spiders.

After we got it sparkling clean (or as sparkling as it will get after 6 years of wear and tear!), we went for a spin out on the lake.  Captain Sugarwings was a fine skipper until she decided that a penny would fit perfectly into the cigarette lighter.

She was right, it fit very well. It also shorted out the whole instrument panel!  Luckily, the boat still started, but the lights, stereo, gages, etc are all dead.Boat_cleaning_013

At the fairy grand baby’s nap time, I did some yard work. Mostly it was puttering around and enjoying the beautiful day and seeing what was sprouting.

But I did plant a few flats of annuals.

Boat_cleaning_016_2 You can tell I certainly didn’t get around to mowing the lawn! The grass is almost knee high, but my son is coming over to mow tomorrow while Sugarwings and I plant more flowers.

I fixed lobster ravioli for lunch today (from Costco, gotta love that place!) and he will always work for food.  I think I can get away with feeding him leftovers of the ravioli tomorrow.

Sons are so wonderful, especially when they are hungry and helpful.Boat_cleaning_017

There isn’t a lot blooming yet, or many flowers planted, but I love this lush, green time of year before all of the flowers come on.

This is the pathway back to our bon fire pit, and see, we have a big pile of wood ready for the next fires.  The evenings are still cool, it is a great time of year to sit by a fire and eat s’mores.

May is my FAVORITE month. I can’t get enough of it.  Boat_cleaning_032

As a matter of fact, I am feeling so May-ish that I added another present to the May prize pack, a bottle of Bath and Bodyworks orchid lotion.

So we are up to:

1- satin hanger with  a fluffy vintage rose

2-white leather Brighton coin purse

3- a tiny dancer

4- a gold band (yes, real gold)

5- a cute pearl pen

6- vintage greeting card

7- lovely lotion

So, leave a comment, any comment, any post all month and I’ll draw a winner June 1st!Boat_cleaning_026

Well, I am running out of daylight, just as I complained about. I got no artwork done today. If I wasn’t such a TV addict, I’d do some now, but Thursdays are a big TV night for me, so I have to get my butt parked in front of the set before I miss anything I can’t live without!

I have to be there when Jim asks Pam to marry him.  And when McDreamy realizes Rose isn’t for him. (although, I like Rose) And when Luca comes back to Abby. And just HOW do the Oceanic Six get off the island?? This is all much more important than me gluing some paper together!

By the way, do you think that this $1 candle holder is a fairy or an angel?  I think she is a bit flirty to be an angel. Her skirt is up pretty high.

  1. Sounds like you have been busy to me! Just planting several flats of flowers is a lot of work.
I too love the tv on Thurs nights. Your post about all our “friends” on tv made me laugh.
I think she is a fairy too. A little to “naughty” to be an angel.
Your give away is getting really big! Sounds great though.
    Hugs,
    Joanne

  2. Sounds like you had a big day! I feel the same about time. It would probably help if I could stay away from blogland. Oh well. maybe tomorrow.
Well I think if the candleholder were mine, it would be an angel. For you? Definitely a fairy!
Luck to you on more hours in your day tomorrow!
    Debbie

  3. wow, i hope i win your giveaway. 🙂 for all your putzing and puttering you still find the time to photograph, load, and share with all of us the beauty in your life. that is amazing. your sharing is a gift that we all get blessed with, in small ways. 🙂

  4. Hi Karla,
Thank you for stopping by my blog and entering my Give~A~Way. I know what you mean about finding new blogs~~like yours! Can’t wait to come back when I have time to read more!
    Michelle

  5. I just can’t believe all the beautiful items you always seem to find, and at fabulous prices at that. Thanks for sharing. I always enjoy reading and seeing your blog.
    I also think it’s a fairy.
Have a great day or night. I also seem to not have enough time of day.
    Hugs 🙂

  6. Aren’t Angels just Fairies anyway??? Your blog is stupendous!!!!!!!!!!!! I love every single picture and word. You’ve inspired me to decorte again!!!!!

  7. I think she is a fairy.
Loved the pics of your yard…..
We just built a fire pit ring, and plan to have a big bonfire for Brad’s grad party the 24th. I agree about the days feeling short; I can’t seem to get enough done and the party is getting closer by the minute! 🙂

  8. Leave it to kids to find the darndest things to poke into places! My little nephew lost the keys to the tractor one year, that was like hunting for a needle in a haystack! The yard looks beautiful…and you get more things packed into one day than I do in a week!

  9. I’m SOOOO upset about the Jim and Pam thing tonight on TV. UGH! Your flowers look lovely, you’ve got a great yard.
Have a great night in spite of the serious television let down 🙁
    Pam 🙂

Sounds like my kind of day, I love to putter, I had a putter day today too. Love your wicker rocker on your porch, I could be very comfy in that rocker. Sugarwings, the cute little rascal, no more pennies for her I see.
I definately think the candleholder is a fairy too seductive to be an angel!!!
Wish I could find the great stuff at the great prices that you do.

  11. I have to agree, May is my favorite month, too. The Office left me slapping my forehead! Michael is just so stupid. LOL! Then Lost, all I can say is Sawyer better not die! He has the best lines, next to Hurley anyway, and he’s nice to look at. 😉

  12. Hi Karla,
I think she’s a fairy, she does look a little flirty with that skirt 🙂 I just love the way you have that bird cage mixed in with the flower pots! I may have to make a copy of that idea in my garden! May is a beautiful time indeed 🙂
    Hugs,
    Dena

  13. I agree, days are definitely too short! Oh, that sugar wings! I thought you were going to say she put something up her nose! Rats! Poor boat! Enjoy the shows, I’m up for Grey’s!

  14. She seems a lot Art Deco…the wings are a bit thick for a fairy aren’t they? With that egyptian or roman like face i’d say more of a fairy -what kind of markings does she have? Either way, she’s wonderful looking. The way you have those milk cans and that chair just to the side of the path makes me think of a ticket taker.

  15. I just love your beautiful garden pictures. It makes me want to get outside and get some of my down. I just couldn’t help laughing about Miss Sugarwings!!
    Sheila R

  16. Hi Karla!
I vote angel, her wings are more angel shaped.
Your giveaway sounds fabulous!! I’m working on my card for Aunt Caroline and will be mailing it this weekend or Monday. Hope I’m not too late!
    Hugs,Sherry

  17. i say fairy too…LOL about Miss Sugarwings and the penny…my oldest broke his nintendo when he was young by inserting a quarter into one of the holes on the top…your giveaway this month looks delicious:)

  18. What do you mean the days are too short? It sounds like you packed an aweful lot into the day to me:>) I think May is my favorite month too, and it is flying by way too quickly! I’m glad your boat started after sugarwings little escapade! She must be a complete joy to you, just don’t give her any more pennies! lol

  19. Hi Karla,
Love your trinkets and your yard looks good to me. I too am so glad that may is here. Have a wonderful weekend.
    -Mya

  20. sooooooooooooo funny!
I just put my post up this morning and then did some blog hopping and landed here and you used the word “putz” too! Great minds think alike (now if only my mind was as creative, artistic, and brilliant as YOURS) Love your garden and Sugarwings is adorable as always!
    Have a happy weekend Karla!
    xo,
    Kim

  21. First of all, I think it is so funny that you and Kim both post about putzing today. And, putzing is one of my favorite things to do.
And, I don’t know if I have told you this before, but I just love the endearing name of Sugarwings. I have an Angel Boy.
I’m so ready for McDreamy and Meredith to just get it right. And, how about that kiss in the elevator?

  22. I have been a frequent visitor to your blog but not don’t leave comments because you get so many & I figure you have your hands full reading them all. But I just gotta thank you for the belly-laugh you gave me this morning. Sugarwings (such a cute name! why didn’t I think of something like that) & the penny story is soo funny, soo real & soooo much like my life that I got a huge kick out of it. Thanks for sharing so much of yourself in your blog!

  23. You find such cool stuff, Love the fairy/angel candle holder (I agree it’s too flirty to be an angel!) Love the baubles and pretties! And little fairies can get into so much trouble can’t they?! But those gizmos on boats can be so fun to mess with! Hope it doesn’t cost too much to fix it!

  24. I vote for fairy. Or a very hot angel. She’s got a tad more style and attitude than I generally give angels, but maybe I sell them short!
What a splendid day you had. I’m waiting so very patiently for the days when I can get out on the lake. Penny notwithstanding, it sounds like a glorious day, and divinely capped off by good telly. I think next week’s Grey’s is two hours…

  25. I’m so glad that I am not the only one obsessed with these sorts of questions. Poor Meredith — LOVE her therapist. She can “fix” her, right? Putting the finishing touches on my panels and thinking about where they are going to move that island are not a good combination — no wonder it is taking me SO long!
    Hugs,
    Kim

  26. wow. that vintage-jewellery was beautiful. I bet you will use them and turn them into something wonderful. I love that rusty iron chair in your garden! My grandfather had 40s ironchairs but sadly mother throwed them away (they were to cold to sit on as she said, who said they would be used for that purpose?). Have a lovely weekend /linnea-maria

  27. I am fairly new to your blog site, but boy am I glad that I came by today. Sugarwings (what a fantastic name!) put that penny in the lighter because it DOES fit! Life is simple! The logic of children can always make me smile. I had a big laugh while eating my lunch at work and reading your blog. Thank you!! My vote on the candle stick (which I can’t believe you got for just a $1!!) is definately FAIRY…..as others have said, there’s just a little something about her that points to FAIRY and not angel 😉
    ~Allie

  28. May is my favorite month, too, and my birthday month to boot. Your garden looks wonderful! You know, I thought I was the only person in the world who loves the “just before bursting into bloom” time in the garden. The anticipation, the lush greenery, the feeling of something magical about to happen. Yep, it’s May, all right!

  29. I’m not sure it she’s a fairy or an angel, but she sure is gorgeous. And I have to say that although the Pam and Jim thing didn’t work out (yet) for me, it was the best Office ever. Happy planting!!

  30. Kathy Semrick

Fairy. Definitely a fairy! I’m sorry I’m laughing at the penny in the lighter trick. How DO they know just what will fit! I can’t even figure out what size of jeans to buy!! Tis a true talent that wee one has. LOL I understand your plight of too little time. I was going to clean today since we are going on vacation starting Sunday. Here it is 3:00. I’ve been to several garage sales, out to lunch with a friend, talking on the phone with a friend…..la-la-la…. POOF! 3:00. Ah well, there’s always tomorrow…. Kathy

  31. to me she looks like a goddess….a spring goddess……and i can’t belive you only spend a $1……..but i say goddess…..
    Kelly

  32. you know, Sugarwings just gets cuter and cuter. she’s is a doll! i loved walking through your day, trolling thru the antique store, cleaning the boat, dealing with the electrical shortage, etc. what a fun day! so what is your hat count up to now? and yes, there is never enough time in the day – but we always start off with the best intentions.
    kecia

  33. Karla, your home is SO pretty. It is such HEAVEN to look at all the green. It is Yucky living in the desert. 🙁 Sugarwings is such a doll baby. And quite creative too, like Grandma, lol 🙂 Hope you have a great weekend !! 🙂

  34. when the poof happens at the end of the day, i don’t have even half as much done as you do. Boat ride sounds wonderful right now…without the added drama of course. Pretty, pretty, pretties.

  35. My vote: Rowdy Angel… That’s kinda how I think of myself. Good buy! And good going w/ the penny Sugarwings. Better than sticking it up her nose… AND Luca came back. YEAH! And McDreamy and his patient w/ the brain tumor and the true love of her life and I cried a river. :SIGH: And the days are whizzing by. School will be out VERY soon and that wacky adjustment period is coming.

  36. She might be an angel having fun dancing in the candlelight.
Your sweet Sugarwings is adorable. And you can never predict what little ones will do – always something unexpected.
    Enjoy beautiful May!

  37. My good lord, I just need to come shopping at your house Karla. What a little collection of goods you have going. Oh, and sorry about the penny in the lighter incident, no good!

  38. Hi Karla!
Nice to read about you and Sugarwings again. I have to tell you this; the other day I was looking at my vacation pictures with my daughter when she spotted the card for your aunt and the card I made for you with Sugarwings. So I showed her your blog. You can add a major fan to your list! She loves you and Sugarwings and we spent all night (still having a jet lag) reading your blog, especially Sugarwings adventures. My daughter who is 14 told me to be such a grandmother to her children as you are for Sugarwings. “Is she 50 now? So in 4 years we have to start?” (which is not correct…) I told her I can wait, but I’m not sure if she can ;-)!
Have a nice weekend! and thanks for publishing the picture of the card I have made for your great aunt!

  41. The same thing seems to happen around here! I have all these plans for the day and next thing I know it is dark and I’m not nearly through with my list!
Sorry about the penny thing – hope it is just a minor repair. One of my kidlets thought chocolate chip cookie would be good in the VCR. I was shocked when it still worked! LOL

  42. You just crack me up!!! I hope Thurs. night was good! I love your yard… we are overgrown with green stuff already! Someday it will be more planned out. And I am laughing at the little penny incident! My dad is so particular about his boat, I think that would have caused a coronary if it happened to him! You obviously took it in stride! Now I am longing to be back on the water!

  43. I love your little garden! I actually like the look an overgrown lawn when the sod is newer. It makes me want to roll around in it!
    Blessings, KJ

  44. THose jewels are awesome! The penny shorting out the boat is so typical of our boating excursions. Gotta love those grand babies.

  45. Michele (Luvkitty)

Oh no, the penny in the lighter!! I hope you’re able to fix the boat…or the parts that aren’t working anymore. I’m glad you were able to get it started at least.
Sugarwings looks like an adorable captain of the boat! The picture is so bright and cheerful, too!
    Lovely prize package you have!!

  46. I love your home and yard. The angel/fairy. Her wings look angel to me but the rest of her says fairy. Hard to say.
